The craziest part is if you seek him out for a rematch, he reveals that licking his thumb lets him achieve Nahobino levels of power, at least for a while. So this is the first time in the game you fight a true equal. Shame they never did anything with the dual sword thing.

I did this guy on Hard by using an Oni with the taunt skill. It work wonders on him. He just keeps attacking into him and because of phys resist, it is simple to just heal him back to full. When the magatsuhi activates he always uses maragion
Same but used a Black Ooze. It's weak to Fire but Fionn's Maragion is predictable like you said. Honestly most YT playthroughs have really weak or underleveled demons, so it seems way worse than it is.
Just fought this guy today, took 3 tries. That Tarukaja + Dark Sword on the MC is brutal. He pulled that out on me both of my first two attempts and nuked me. What an amazing fight with the music and sense of this hero versus hero vibe. Would've been cool dying a few more times to just listen to that theme.
This guy was tough. Had him constantly triple debuffed and still got one shot. Ran fire blocking Ruinous thunder Nahobino/Buffing Shiki Ouji, Koppa tengu/MVP Manananggal with toxic spray/Principality, Lilim as healers and revivers. Phys resist characters were out during normal rounds, and everyone but Nahobino came off before his Magatsuhi. Took me a couple tries to defeat him.
I think the idea was to beat Fionn back enough to get him to stop retaliating. I wouldnt want to jump in between two fighting parties with little to no idea of their abilities or motives, at least in Fionn's case.
I really hope we get a 5* Saber version of him. Guy was supposed to be almost as strong as Gil. He deserves a better portrayal, specially personality wise. He was cool(haha) by all accounts, the event with diarmuid was an exception not the rule. Which, let's be fair, if your girl cheated on you with your "hot" friend, right before the wedding, you'd be mad too.
He was bisexual but the thing they get wrong here is him being blonde. He actually had dark brown hair that had a red sheen in it when the sunlight hit it.

This guy is my 1st serious roadblock in solo run (normal diff.) Is there any way to obtain protection from Dark Sword (Seal status effect) at this point in the game, or is grinding my only option?

Be it luck, me getting better at the game, or both. I managed to 2-try this guy on Hard, with the first time getting him down to half health. I was 2 levels higher than him, but he still hit like an 18-wheeler. Despite Nahobino being Harvest Danced and Fionn’s attack being at rock bottom, Mac an Lúin still did 99%. And keep in mind my entire stock took regular damage from physical. Still managed to get a flashy finisher with Aramasa.

I don't get the balancing of this game, I wreck everything on my way there, fight starts well but then he just annihilates me with magatsuhi maragion, wtf. Am I not getting something or am I really supposed to grind for hours?
Basically just expect a suckerpunch death at every point in this game. I tell myself that the developers were not loved as children because of how often they want your character to die

If you're in the 4th netherworld and found him. You have to do the fairy village quests first before you can trigger him to join you.

Fire Dampener. Fionn always uses Maragion when he gathers Magatsuhi, so throw down a Fire Dampener, and you can cancel his turn
