You know why I enjoy your channel?? Your discussions are never regarding on how bad things may get, it is about how good we can overcome challenges. It is not easy for anyone when prices get higher, and the world seems like it may be falling apart. But, when you have a format that brings people together, helping each other in common goals and support with wonderful ideas, well that is a win and you all should be commended. Good job!

My local store just had 5 oz, bacon wrapped beef fillets on sale for $1.99 each with a limit of 4. I bought 4, removed the bacon strips to have for breakfast with an egg or pancakes, cut a slice off each fillet (4 oz serving is plenty) to use in beef tips over rice, and put the remainder in the freezer. So, for $7.96 I have 4 steak dinners, one beef tips on rice and 2 to 4 breakfast meats.

One of my purses broke and I had to throw it away. I went to the store to look for another purse when it dawned on me that I really didn't need to replace the purse. I already have over 10 other purses in various colors and sizes. What was going to be an automatic purchase was stopped by just thinking about if it was necessary. So, chalk up one win for me.

I just made some macaroni and cheese balls from leftover mac and cheese. Just used a small melon scoop and rolled them in panko crumbs. Great appetizer or side dish. I saw them in the freezer section for $5.99 a box. Also made a quiche today with a leftover chicken brat and some bell peppers that were getting a little soft. Yesterday I made bolognese , one for dinner and another batch for the freezer. I feel so good eating healthier food without the presevatives and added sugars and salt. We have been able to maintain our food budget even with rising prices by using the pantry and freezer. I think is also important to learn to say no when friends want to eat out too. Invite them over instead for homemade soup or tuna salad and cut up veggies. It really is more about the comorodory than the place. Just my humble opinion.

I always have a freezer bag with ends of bread that my kids don't really prefer for a sandwich. When full I make into breadcrumbs. Just did a batch the other day. My mom was a SAHM and worked hard for us to live on 1 income. She taught me so much. Yet when I was young I used to think it wasn't such valuable advice. Today, both my husband and I have been blessed to have good careers. I've worked hard to teach my children that just because you may have some extra money you don't frivolously spend it. Yes, we could of had a maid weekly,, eaten out alot, taken more vacations, etc but why. It wouldn't teach us to work as a family or know the value of a dollar. Our best vacations weren't things like Disney. Although a great time they remember trips with a cabin enjoying small attractions and being together. Now the older kids are realizing how lucky they are with college saved for and the extras they truly have. My best advice for anyone would be to never live above your means and try to save for that rainy day.

Love all the tips from our awesome viewers, we stopped eating out all together. I make simple, hearty and satisfying meals. The hubby and I eat at our dinning room table for our meals.I dress the table up at each mesl. I learned that from watching your videos and you are right, a dressed up table makes our simple meal feel special on an ordinary day. I to love meal time with my husband, of late I noticed he doesn't scarf his meal down as fast had he use to with our table dressed up. Thank you for the great tips.

We have been living a content and joyfully frugal lifestyle for most of our 32 year marriage. Because we have done this, we have been able to travel with our children and spend our money on experiences instead of stuff. Our kids are grown now and we do not regret a single trip that we have taken thanks to an otherwise frugal lifestyle. Even now with the crazy prices of everything, we are not stressed or fearful because we just make a game out of seeing how much we can save and still maintain our happy lifestyle. Thank you for your channel! Your enthusiasm and joy are what makes your videos so helpful and warm.

But… last week I walked away from a designer bag in my local charity shop and left if for someone else to enjoy. It actually wasn’t difficult. This used to be my weakness until I decided to just keep a small chanel purse, a Louis Vuitton hand bag, a damier wallet and my mini agenda as somewhat luxury items. I decided to use all the bags I have and not get any more about 4 years ago. I have a big collection of gucci, balenciaga and cheaper brands like coach and Michael kors. They are of really good quality and I have had given some away as gifts for the holidays. I feel better because if would have continued buying more bags I wouldn't be broke per se, but I would have had less to invest for retirement.

Normally spend LOADS on sweets, chocolate etc for Christmas - not doing it this year - do I really need to give the grandbabies enough treats to last them 6 months - don't think so. Instead, they will be given vouchers to cook with nanny and we'll make treats throughout the year. My granddaughter is a popcorn addict and my grandson is a marshmallow addict - both can be made at home with care and alot of love. Both LOVE cookies and traybakes and it gives them time with me and their mum a little break.

Yesterday on my weekly outing I asked my son to take me to a new cookie shop. We went in looked at the menu. Very limited and one cookie was $4.95. Went right out the door. Told him I can make a whole batch for just a little more than just one. Went to another cookie store that opened up last year. Pulled in one weird sign on the outside. No consumption on site. Weird I thought. Son laughed and said marijuana inside the baked cookies. Loved all the tips today.

Hi Paul & Emmy 👋🏻 I always love when I see you have a new video out! You are my “go to” channel and I know I’ll get encouragement and great tips/recipes from you. I think our attitudes really make a difference in our spending. I’m trying to be “content” with what I have.
I’ve found it helpful to put a little snack in my grocery bags before I leave the house. If I’m going to several different stores my husband will say., “I’m getting hungry” so I pull out the snack I snuck in the bag and we have a brief recharge before the next store. I also send my son with a small list of exactly what to buy when I just need a couple of things locally. It keeps me from temptation.

So I will often tear pages out of catalogs for things I want to buy. I save the pages and review them about a week later to see if I want to pay for all of them. Almost every time that I review them, I decide NOT to buy. In fact I would say this practice stops me about 97% of the time. The ones I keep end up most often as gifts for others anyway!!

Excellent tips! My hubby and I recently retired early, and your channel has helped us so much! I WANTED to order more tea from Republic of Tea, but stopped myself, and said, "No, you have enough until next month" when the budget resets. I pulled out some older, not so loved flavors, and made myself stick to the plan. Really, the budget is easy, the discipline to say no, or WAIT has been the exercise. Katie, we change up flavors of not so loved teas. We add a half or whole cinnamon stick to blah spiced apple tea and let that stick steep at least ten minutes. Also try a few whole cloves (or more) in a pot of black or green teas.
Our go to is squeezing a large wedge of lemon and sweetener into a pot of
black tea. Some like to make an extra mug of tea by reusing tea bags.

I can save purchases until I meet $25! I said no to a small figurine of a nag (horse) from the 1940’s. I have looked for one for years and finally found it. I have a wedding to attend soon. I went shopping for a new dress to wear a few weeks ago. I found a couple I liked but they were so expensive! I did not buy anything. I went home and started looking online. Again, prices were just more than I wanted to spend. I started going through my closets and drawers and found a beautiful dress my sister gave me almost 2 years ago. It was in the back of my closet, I had totally forgot about it and have never worn it. I also found a handful of cute tops and a pair of jeans that I had but have not worn in awhile. I ended up putting some clothes I no longer want in a Goodwill donation box and moved the "new" ones up front so I will wear them. We should go through closets and drawers more often! I set up a reminder on my phone calendar to do it again in 6 months. Thanks for all the great ideas today!!

When my hubby & I got married, we agreed that we would eat together at the table...I put out our plates (usually Italian made plates-real pretty--thrift shop....) with the napkin and silverware...and at supper, we talk about the day! Every night is "our time" together. One night, I threw a few paper plates out on the table...my hubby "requested" that I put the good plates on! GO FIGURE!!! :o I laughed sooo hard! Dollar Tree? No, I don't shop there anymore since they increased their prices. For food items and TP (half the price of Costco's) I shop Grocery Outlet . Their WOW deals are amazing, last week I bought two 2lb bags of Peets coffee for $1.5O ea. granted they were at their Best Before Date, but who cares? I always buy multiples of items I use regularly when they are at rock bottom prices. Forty jars of Dijon Mustard for 50cents each will last me a long time to spead on toast instead of butter or margarine. For almost everything else, I go to two local thrift stores, one is the local Humane Society, where they have excellent quaility items for little cost, and it all goes to help the animals. Most items of clothing there are $1-$2 the most I have seen was $8.00 for a like new London Fog raincoat which came with a removable winter lining. The other thrift store is much larger, and supports a private school, not in my town, but well worth the drive, again everything is spotless and reasonably priced. I never shop chain-type thrift stores their prices are OTT, I frequently buy tioletries, and hygeniene items for pennies on the dollar, as well as freezer bags full of stationary for $1, as well as new camping gear, gardening supplies and just about anything else one can think of. Why shop dollar stores when I can find far better prices elsewhere, especially when their packages are often smaller than they used to be?

I buy big packs of meat (steaks mostly) marked down at Kroger, divide it up into 4-5 oz. pieces, vacuum seal each one with my Food Saver and put in my 7 cu. ft. freezer. It's only me at home now, so I have many meals of delicious steak. I buy everything I can in bulk (as long as it saves money) and divide it up. Buying a small freezer was one of the best things I ever did.

It is so foolishly obvious but my most recent time stopping myself from buying something was a book ... I wanted a particulaaaar book to use for work, so I can get reimbursed. I just automatically called Barnes and Noble to ask if it was in stock and the price, then checked on line to see if it was cheaper on line. Was about to stop by to pick it up when the obvious occured to me - call the library! It is not a book I will reread (it was a children's book) and I only needed it for a week. So, I drove there, picked it up, had a nice conversation wiht a couple of the librarians about the author and didn't spend a dime. It doesn't matter that I could have got reimbursed, there was no reason to spend the money in the first place and that money will be in the budget for me to use at a later date when I am not able to get a book at the library.

Another great video Emmy and Paul! Another thing I do is just put things in my 'cart' on Amazon or eBay. I put anything I want in the cart and then just leave it there for a while - sometimes days or weeks or more. Sometimes I come back and decide I do need it (or at least I've really made sure it is worth the 'want'), but most of the time items hold less appeal for me the next time I look at my cart. I am also a big reader so I get lots of recommendations for books. I wish I could read them all, but that can't happen plus we have limited space here in our home. I've made a list in Amazon and I just add stuff to the list. When I'm ready to take up something new, I look at the list, check the library (they don't have everything I'm interested in but it's a good place to start), and go from there.

My impulse want....almost bought...a staub dutch oven from Williams-sonoma 🙄
I tried to convince myself it was a great purchase bc it's on a severe sale. AND it would "last forever" I told myself. Haha...it's big and would be great for a family.
    BUT...
Lol...I live alone. Rarely cook for anyone but myself. I have 2 complete sets of stainless pots and pans🤨 An instant pot, a slow cooker, and the list goes on...
I put that Cherry Red staub dutch oven in my online cart...yes I did...in January....😊...it's still in that cart.....I go and look at it from time to time🤣
I keep getting notices from the website saying...hey you left something behind🤣

But my absolute favorite is my DescoWare ( made in Belgium )antique enamel cast iron dutch oven I brought mine at a thrift store for $ 55 so still expensive. They are hard to find but are very highly rated, research online. They also weigh less than other brands. Mine has a beautiful fall leaf design on it.

One of the best money saving tips: Never loan money to anyone. Also budget how much you will give to charity. Great video and tips! For gardeners with spring fever, try winter sowing. Use a gallon milk jug or transparent plastic container to grow seedlings. Drill 6-7 drain holes in the bottom of the jug and cut it horizontally about 4" up from the bottom. Leave 1-2" of plastic attached. Fill 3" with dampened potting soil and plant a few seeds. Sprinkle on a bit more soil and press down. Put a label with the seed type INSIDE the jug and wrap duct tape around the jug to close it horizontally. REMOVE the cap, label the OUTSIDE of the jug too, and place it outside on your patio or yard. Nature will water your mini seed greenhouse and sprout the seeds at the right time. They survive rain and snow and produce beautiful seedlings. Only need watering if you have extended drought. Super satisfying and low cost!

Great to hear these viewer tips. I do a lot of them but some were new for me and I learned new ideas. Always awesome. Ohhhh yes, I have stopped myself from buying many things. Most recently, a canning starter kit. I was thinking “how great it would be to get a canning starter kit and I could can food.” But, I did your trick of waiting a few days and seeing if the impulse was still there. I thought the better of it. Maybe I could borrow a friend’s sometime to see if it’s even something I would do? Maybe if I did it and realized “eh I really don’t want to continue to do this” then no harm no foul. I didn’t buy it and then discovered it was a waste. Or I could see if yard sales have them and get for very cheap if eventually I wanted to do it. But first, I thought asking a friend to borrow theirs and try it out would be the best idea. I’m not a “stuff” person per se, but things like a canning kit…it’s almost like it’s marketed to you “so you can save $ on food”…yeah…if you use it consistently. It’s like the Instapot…it’s marketed as the “must have” for the kitchen. Well, I don’t do pressure cooking and am not really interested, so it would not save me $. Or an air fryer…I found out air frying is the same as convection baking. I have a convection toaster oven. That means, I can “air fry” in it. It might not look as fancy but what’s the point buying a fancy one if I have one that already works? But marketing…you need this…cough cough…to save $. Not always. It’s only a money savings if you actually use it on the regular and it prevents you from spending more money another way.

It makes me think…a video about this type of consumerism would be cool. The “you need this product to make your life easier and save $” when in reality, companies are just coming up w/ gadgets and marketing them in such a way you think you need it and you get so tempted you buy it and then you maybe use it once and then it collects dust. You see this stuff marketed on social media channels a lot and they really target to “if you want an easier life, you need this” and people almost lose all ability to think and they just buy these things. I guess a video about “outsmarting the marketers” would be interesting, if I’m making any sense w/ what I am saying.

you can learn to preserve produce by freezing, dehydrating, canning.
also, save the food scraps to make soups.
using the oven? pack it as full as possible,to save on utility costs.
    the freezer is your friend.
to stop eating preservative laden foods or fast food, make sure you have meals ready to heat and eat in your freezer.
    save food storage containers like yogurt.sour cream.butter.cottage cheese.pickles.olives.etc.save those containers.nifty Tupperware s.
for those in school or working outside the home, pack lunches for the week on a sunday.label.date.contents.name.done.saves time, stress, money.
    make coffee/tea/etc.at home.much cheaper.
if you have a single cup brewer for coffee, invest in a reusable pod.way cheaper than those k cup pods.
keep produce as stores have it.
candles last longer,as do batteries,if you refrigerate them.
    buy quality,not quantity

Instead of buying the gallon buckets of ice cream at Aldi for my guys, lately I've purchased 2 half gallon containers. They are almost the same exact price per ounce, but our son seems to eat smaller portions when a half gallon is in the freezer instead of the giant bucket. :) My didn't-purchase-victory last week was another container of dark chocolate sea salt caramels at Aldi. They went up from $2.45 to $2.89 and since I've just finished a container of them as a treat, I told myself 'no' about getting them again so soon. LOL!

Such a great video! Lovd the shared tips- so useful! I walked away a lot lately, as I dont really make a mealplan anymore but buy whats affordable or on sale at the store and then make my meals around those items. Many times I was grabbing an item I usually bought but then questioned myself if I really rally needed it or just wanted i..so I went to put it back. Same with online shopping, I have spend hours searching for something then told myself- its not really neccessary -Its hard times and worst comming so-better save that money that we would like to spend on "stuff" cuz we may need it for food in a litle while! Same with gasoline- I seriously consider buying a byce or a scooter instead of useing my car for every trip. A small moped will do too. Put a basket on it and thats enough to bring home some groceries with a drop of gas. Or how about an electric byce...many older folks have a drivable electric cart of sort....works great! I now use my car once every 1,5 weeks or less. I make sure I combine apointments in 1 day 1 in the AM and 1 a few hours later so lets say 1 in the morning with my house doctor to get prescriptions filled then go shop or to the bank etc then I go see the dentist or whatever. Maybe you and Paul could start to make a few meatless dishes? That be awesome! I`d love to add some new recipes to my collection Gpd bless

I also got steaks this week for $3.99 and got 4 rain checks to go back to get more which will be 12 steaks 2-3 lbs each package. That’s a rock bottom price for our area. This week they have roasts at 3.99 a lb which I’ll get. They also have ground beef for 3.99 a lb. Kielbasa for $3 a lb and 2 lb bag of shrimp for less than $5 a lb.
I always stock up when it hits rock bottom. We also have been doing more meatless nigh meals. I’ve been eating more salads and using beans for more protein.
