I was once asked if I was happy living the way I do. If I had aspirations to get more. At the time I was confused about what this person was saying. 15 years later, I now get it. Yes I was, yes I am happy and content. I love my home and all that I have. I don’t need a bigger home or a flashy car and latest phone. I don’t even need the designer clothes and bags. My thing is yesteryear. Simple lifestyle and no fuss living. I’m not chasing the big brands. I have all that I need and more and I happy with that xx Hugs from Surrey England xx
Love this so much!!! My favorite of the ten is that you don't have a feeling of deprivation, followed by being grateful for all the small things in your lives. I would add, taking good care of what you do have, including keeping your house clean and organized. Becoming a good housekeeper has changed my life. I used to shop to escape from my messy house. Now my apartment is my sanctuary and my life feels rich even though I live on a small pension. Love you two! ❤️❤️❤️
You are my soul sister!!! Everything you say, we do... We have been 100% debt free for 19 months and it is so great going to bed at night, knowing we don't owe a penny to anybody! We will never go back in debt again...
I was married for a long time to a financially abusive husband so I’m finally able to allow myself the discipline of maintaining a sound budget so I can thrive (and my 2 kids). With him they get the: whatever you want 🤑 with me, they get the resourcefulness of “let’s figure out what we can make instead of order pizza or takeout.” I think they’re getting some great lessons for real life in real time 🧡😎 gratefulness is key!!
I’m in a financially abusive relationship and I thank you for sharing your outlook. My kids are still really young but I can see it effecting them in the future. Although I plan on leaving the relationship I feel as though dad will bribe them with money.
Such wisdom and message! It's all about contentment HEBREWS 13:5 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. I used to be a major shopaholic having a family has helped curve that and watching channels like yours on YT have been an immense help and inspiration for change. Love watching your videos and am catching up on older ones :)
Yes, I feel exactly the same as you do about frugal living. Not only do I not feel deprived, but living this way makes me really appreciate what we DO have. If I am not indulging myself on fine chocolates on a daily basis, but allowing myself to have a small piece once or twice a week then it really allows me to savor and enjoy it MORE (not less).
My kids know if there are leftover hamburger buns it going to be garlic bread for the next meal....if I have leftover hamburger patties it meatballs...leftover fruit. It’s cobbler you just have to be creative...love you guys 😊❤️ btw I said I wanted new wooden spoons for Christmas....😂
Ditto 😊 but I really don't compare myself with others. I compare myself with where I was last year, five years ago, ten years ago....etc. That's how I know if I'm meeting goals and learning, improving and growing.
I rewarded myself with material things a bit yoo much when I was working. Now I'm retired I realise I have everything I need and wear all my clothes instead of hoarding them. Its great.
I just stated tracking my grocery shopping for the last 5 months, and OMG I cant believe how much money I spend on groceries!! Now that I am tracking, I have shaved 67% off my grocery bill without compromising the quality:-)) I am soo excited to see the numbers drop:-)))) I also am tracking my visits to the grocery store, and have gone from an average of 23 trips a month to 7 trips so far in Nov. Its almost like watching the scale when you are losing weight LOL I only wish I would have done this years ago:-( but better now, then wondering where my money is going!!! I'm kinda becoming a tight wad lol I ask myself " do I need this??" the answer is usually NO :-)))))
I totally agree with you. It took years for me but I realized it’s all about contentment and being settled in your life. When you look for free things to do you realize there’s so much out there. We are from New Jersey and we love sitting on the beach in the summer, taking hikes in the fall and spring, we recently did a full day fall scenic drive looking at the leaves and stoping for a picnic. We don’t drink or gamble and go out to eat once in a while. I do love to travel so that is what we save for. Our lives are full and we are so content. I’m happy I found your channel ♥️
You have such reasonable goals. My mentor, grandmother was always content with her life. She taught me many things about life. She raised her children, my mom, and uncle, alone after my grandfather passed. I will always remember her attempt to acquaint me with a more frugal lifestyle. I miss her every day. 🙏🤗
I love your first tip about gratitude. My favorite affirmation is: gratitude is a natural anti-depressant. I think it also helps to be content with the season of life you are in at this time. That way you don’t have to fill your life with “things” that don’t bring happiness.
The best thing is to live below your means. That's freedom from unneeded expenses and tension and worry. Being grateful for those things you have gives you a peace of mind and a joy that cannot be replaced by simple materialism or keeping up with the Jones.
LOL! I adore, love, and appreciate your comment Rhonda! I wish when they did that they would leave me a comment and tell me why LOL! Thank you so much for you Supporting us!
I'm a firm believer of living within your budget/means and also setting aside 1/12 of annual bills (car and house insurance, property taxes, etc) each month. It is so satisfying to know that when the bill comes due, you already have the money set aside and don't have to wring your hands worrying where the money is coming from to pay an annual bill. Actually, I do that with all the bills, even the monthly ones. Electric bills are higher in the summer, but I've already planned for them by averaging the monthly cost and putting that 1/12 aside each month. Money just sits there waiting until higher summer bills. I cannot tell you what peace of mind this creates for me. I've been widowed for a little over two years and I thank God that I have everything I NEED. I don't always have what I WANT, but like you two, I don't feel deprived. My wants are few. Thank you for your ten frugal habits. Solid, solid good advice. Diane in NC
Thank you for sharing your habits to have an abundant life that doesn’t require lots of material possessions and how to replace bad spending habits with good habits.
This video is so inspirational. Since watching your channel I’ve gotten our family of four’s budget down to $100 or less a week. I started doing grocery pickup so I could see the total before we checkout and when it goes over $100 I start analyzing what we don’t -have- to have or I double check the fridge to see if I’ve gotten something that hasn’t quite run out yet. The contentment message of your videos is appreciated!
Sending love to you and Paul! You’re absolutely spot on when you say true contentment is not found when there’s over spending or buying of things not needed. People who do that are looking outside of their lives to buy the inner happiness and contentment they lack. Generally, it’s because there are flaws or heartaches with their close family and friend relationships. You and Paul seem truly happy together as a couple and that is such a blessing! I would suggest people who have troubled relationships get serious about fixing those issues-that may involve counseling , or be willing to have serious heart to heart conversations with those who may be bringing difficulty into their lives. As a “ recovered big spender”, I can attest to this. I spent way too much money when i was unhappily married. Now that I’m in a healthy new chapter of my life, I don’t feel the need to over buy. I offer these thoughts because i believe most overspending is tied directly to our mental wellness!💕🙏
We agree. I am grateful everyday for what we have. I've made it a game to see how thrifty (grocery-wise) we can be. We always have a category for giving (food banks, folks experiencing homelessness, charities) and a small amount for adventures, we love our life too. 💕
Wish I could give you not just a thumbs up, but a high five and a heart!!! This is a message that needs to be out there! Gratitude is soooooo important. Love you started with that!
Yes! I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said in this video! My husband and I live this exact same way. The frugal life is a life of simplicity and contentment. 🙂
Very true. With the pandemic & people loosing their jobs & a possible economy crash looming Ill bet many people wish they had followed your advice. Decisions that are forced on you by circumstance are much harder to live with!
"Own no Man nothing but to love them"- Romans 13:8. That is my guide for life living a debt-free life for over twenty-five years. Being a Minister & Accountant I truly agree with your ten statements concerning debt-free living. My total dependency is on God not a credit card. Enjoying the benefits of a high credit score and living with the spirit of contentment and gratitude.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom! By making a couple changes (like eating seasonally and simple meals, and looking for free entertainment) I’m already saving a ton
A few of us had a conversation on Sunday morning at church, about consumerism. (I think I spelled that right, if it is a word). How over many years, it has become a "pass time" to shop and online shopping made it even easier. We are in the process of trying to climb out of debt, a considerable amount, but thankful that we are trying to do it and my husband has a much better job, that helps. So thankful for the channel and for all who share on here as well.
I wish I had listened and made the choices that you 2 did years ago but my husband often did not have a steady job. I wish RUclips had been around 20+ years ago!
I adore your accent and your personality! No nonsense. Love it. Just found your channel and subscribed. I'm going to watch some of your other videos. Thank you for your advice. I just reviewed my purchases yesterday and I was so embarrassed and regretful. I decided to write out a budget and a list of allowed and not allowed spending. I'm going to start doing my own gray coverage now instead of $150 at the salon every 4 weeks and no more nail salon...I'll just paint my own nails. Also, I cancelled some monthly subscriptions I had. I am still going to get my one massage each month though. I'm definitely one of those people that shops as a hobby but I don't want to do it anymore. I hope to watch your videos and feel motivated and stick to it!!
Lana welcome! So great to have you here! Please don't be too hard on yourself! This is a journey...one step at a time! You've made some super great positive changes already! Thanks for watching!
Just normal, everyday things, nothing extreme like give up the internet (ack, can't imagine), cut your own hair, etc. Staying within the budget is sometimes the hardest, but I'm gaining on it. Thanks for your common sense advise.
I planned two months of meal. We eat the left overs for lunch the next day so no food gets wasted. I buy most of food on sale. We eat out twice a month for a date night and I usually use a coupon or a gift card.
Emmy, you are so wise! We live very much like you and Paul, and it's so nice to hear of another couple who thinks like we do. I think we're sisters at heart ❤
I live alone and getting out and eating out with family or girlfriends at a reasonably priced restaurant is a great joy that I hope to be able to do for a very long time. Also, it helps our local economy which is based on the restaurant and service industries. For some reason, even before Covid, it seems folks don’t invite people into their homes for meals as they once did. With everything else you mentioned, I do. Love your channel!
It is a struggle. I work near a drive through restaurant and I fight with myself at least 3 times a week against wanting to zip through for a $12 dinner. $12 sounds cheap but do it 12 times a month x 12 months and it isn't cheap! I have to tackle the 2 year old inside me that wants instant gratification! Sigh
If I’m not mistaken you wore that printed top this summer. Looks really nice with the red underneath and sweater. Great way to wear clothes for all seasons.
@@FrugalMoneySaver I'm making a game out of it. Decided to every month highlight frivolous $ and HAVE to put that back into savings in addition to my normal savings. Thanks 👍
I've also always been big on little things! And I love being creative. So I'm hoping to do this and at least be semi-retired by age 60! Thanks for your excellent tips!
This was like listening to my husband and myself having a conversation. ♥️♥️ We even tell our children please don’t buy us anything for birthdays, Christmas etc. We absolutely can not think of anything we need or want. lol For us those special days are just getting to spend time with our children and their spouses without stress. Just eating laughing and enjoying each other. ♥️♥️ I am so so glad I found your channel. God knew exactly what I needed to hear. My dream has always been to retire at 55. We have lived our entire married life trying to be frugal… but their are times I think “I don’t know if we can?” But in just the few short videos I have enjoyed you have re-energized my gusto!!!!! We can do this!!!!! And God willing we WILL do this!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!! I can’t wait to start at video 1 and work my way through your channel.
Hi emmy You are so right in all you say and do I'm totally with you on being debt free it's a great feeling and you actually have more money to spend that way Take care as always and stay safe xx💙💚💛💜
😊 This video came up for me and I have to say, it was a blessing to hear you speak thoughts and truths I have in my heart. I trust that we will be to this point in our lives sometime soon. Thank you for your encouragement.
Great video, nice tips and I really like the gratitude you have shown for what you own and enjoy in life. Simple things. Moments of just sheer enjoyment watching birds or enjoying some fresh air and a walk outdoors. You really have got it all :-)
Such great advice, I have a hard time with the comparisons to others and wanting to keep up with the joneses. Also shopping is a bad habit I can’t seem to kick. Gonna watch your videos when I’m feeling that spend itch 😅😂. Thank you!
I take monopoly money. Everytime I resist, I put the equivalent monopoly money in an envelope. I feel a sense of satisfaction at the end of the month when I see how much I "saved". It gives me a tangible way to see what saying "no" means for my benefit.
@@FrugalMoneySaver I think the same thing and have been meaning to comment on it! BTW, I watch a lot of your videos on my Roku television and can't click "like," but do my best to go back and do so when I'm on my computer. I know you and Paul put a lot of time and effort into these videos and need RUclips to take notice! Thanks for all of the info!
Great tips Emmy, especially being thankful for what we already have and making do if we can and only spending mindfully and intentionally - We live in such a wasteful society that encourages us to spend, spend, spend on items that we may not need and can't afford, regardless of the impact it has on not only us personally but on the planet as well.
This was an absolutely brilliant video Emmy!!! All wonderful tips and words of wisdom.....thank you so much! I so appreciate you and Paul and your channel. God bless you both!
Thank you so much for this video. It is so sweet to experience you and Paul giving God the glory for all that He gives us. And, the peace and contentment that this brings is pure joy. Blessings

I have to tackle the 2 year old inside me that wants instant gratification! Sigh
Great message, Emmy and Paul! I race home from work on T/F to see your new videos.
Deb that is so sweet! Love it! Thanks so much!
If I’m not mistaken you wore that printed top this summer. Looks really nice with the red underneath and sweater. Great way to wear clothes for all seasons.
Good eye Cathy! It’s always great to use what you have for all seasons!
You got me to purchase a small cash book to record my 🏧 cash. Started Oct 1st and amazed to see where my $ was going. Adds up. Thank you ❤️
You are so welcome Kathleen! Good for you! Great job of tracking your expenses😊
@@FrugalMoneySaver I'm making a game out of it. Decided to every month highlight frivolous $ and HAVE to put that back into savings in addition to my normal savings. Thanks 👍
Do you have a link for the book?
Great tips! I do most of these things and living debt free too. I hope your listeners follow your advise!🙏🏻✝😊 Have a blessed week.
Thank you Vonda! You too!

You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!
Such great advice, I have a hard time with the comparisons to others and wanting to keep up with the joneses. Also shopping is a bad habit I can’t seem to kick. Gonna watch your videos when I’m feeling that spend itch 😅😂. Thank you!
Glad our videos are helpful Hilda! Thanks so much for watching!
I take monopoly money. Everytime I resist, I put the equivalent monopoly money in an envelope. I feel a sense of satisfaction at the end of the month when I see how much I "saved". It gives me a tangible way to see what saying "no" means for my benefit.
I loved this video!!!! I absolutely agree 100%! Contentment is key!
Absolutely! Thanks so much for watching!
Your hair is beautiful
Thank you so much! I think you might be biased though💕❤️💕
@@FrugalMoneySaver You should do a frugal hair care/beauty video
@@FrugalMoneySaver I think the same thing and have been meaning to comment on it! BTW, I watch a lot of your videos on my Roku television and can't click "like," but do my best to go back and do so when I'm on my computer. I know you and Paul put a lot of time and effort into these videos and need RUclips to take notice! Thanks for all of the info!

Cathy that is so kind of you to say! Thank you so much for watching!
So true! You are absolutely right! Thanks for watching!
As always, I am enjoying your videos Emmy. Sound advice for everyone who wants to learn to live the debt free life. Thank you 😀
