Loved watching you hang laundry to dry! Back when my boys were little, we lived on a little 5-acre homestead. I loved using my clothesline to hang laundry out to dry. It was my special time of contemplation, reflection, and prayer. When it was too cold to hang laundry in the wintertime, I used a drying rack placed near the Vermont Castings woodstove. Things dried very quickly there! I live in a condo now. Sadly, clotheslines (and woodstoves) are not allowed. But every time I see laundry on a line, blowing in the breeze, my mind goes back to that simple, frugal time in my life. So many precious memories! Loved your video and enjoyed seeing glimpses of your sweet, little SC home.
I stay motivated by thinking of my grandmother who raised 6 kids during the depression. I have tried to imitate her life style as much as I can, and I know by a comment I heard from a cousin, that she was proud of how I tried to do all the things to save money and provide a good life for my family. I keep her in my heart and mind as I struggle through a day and realize I really don't know what struggles are compared to what she had to endure.
When going out for a day trip, pack a lunch. That also works when traveling which gives you a good break from driving and the chance to explore local parks. Having a simple picnic in a local park is great fun. I always take water in the car whenever or whereover I go. It would freak me out to pay $2 for a bottle of water. I have a small tote with plastic tablecloth, napkins, paper plates, plastic forks, knives and spoons plus a serving spoon or two, salt and pepper that I keep in the car during the summer months. I do lunch several ways, one is prepared at home, or a cooler with fixings to make at the table. Occasionally I'll stop at a deli and pick up fruit or salad to complete the meal. One time we found a beautiful park (Columbia, MO I think) with a lake with both black and white swans and our kids were fascinated. Sometimes we'd end up eating at a rest stop or parked on a shady side street in some small town. Most small towns do have at least one park although not all are inviting. Now that I'm alone I still keep that tote (downsized) in the car and still pack a lunch on the days I go to town (25 miles) to shop. I might end up eating in Walmart's parking lot, but it beats eating expensive unhealthy fast food. I have to take a cooler to keep my shopping safe anyway so no inconvenience in using it for lunch. I wash milk jugs, fill with water and freeze for the cooler. This is great as they can be refrozen and there is no water in the cooler to drain. A quick wipe out is all that's needed.
If you put the 3 carrots in the compost it is still a win win situation with future compost on its way. I motivate myself by thinking of my home as my personal shopping mall, shopping in my home, there is always a book I have not read or clothes I have not worn yet so no need to buy anything better to save. If that does not work and I have the urge to splurge in spring or summer I find a little cuttling of a shrub or rose or grow or a seed from my collection or in winter I make a wreath or pine decoration, a bouquet of garden flowers or even shrubs in a vase is stylish, costs nothing and really brightens up the no spend days. Also converting meal times to picnics, if it is all nicely laid out on the picnic blanket or table it is always as if it is new food not stuff that has been in the fridge for a while.
That should be called Homecoming Pasta! I wish my area allowed me to hang out clothes, love to do that...it makes my day to do that. Oddly, when I feel like "shopping" I make myself organize a drawer or closet. Takes my mind off it and makes me realize how very much I am blessed to have.
How in a country so quick to claim freedoms and personal autonomy can someone stop you doing something so harmless as drying clothes outside?👩🎤 I bet others would join you in a small revolution with the current power costs, go for it! Cheers
In the uk its very common to see clothes drying on the line. Love the smell of fresh dried clothes. I only use a drier at the laundrette in winter when its impossible to get anything dry outside.but its expensive £8 for full load
In Australia it is very common to hang out clothing to dry. I hang our clothing in a breeze way because the intensity of sunlight can fade clothes in a few hours when the weather is extreme. Surely with the movement to reduce, reuse and recycle such antiquated rulings could be overturned. Besides using electricity and saving wear and tear on clothing could be reduced.
I have no idea why Americans are so obsessed with drying clothes in a dryer when it's possible to hang them outside. I know some places make rules about not doing so (I have a friend in San Diego, CA and they are not supposed to according to their Home Owners Association) but it just seems madness to use electricity and have to PAY FOR IT WHEN IT COULD BE FREE! I grew up with a dryer in NZ but we only ever used it to 'finish off' drying things in winter, like underwear after it had been line dried either outside or in our garage when the weather was wet. Everything else got ironed dry as we didn't have a hot water/airing cupboard.
You are both natural teachers, great at explaining and breaking things down. You really did pick a great retirement project by choosing to share your mindset and lifestyle with the nearly 25k in your frugal family!
Those sad, limp carrots are not a frugal fail if you have a bag in the freezer for veggie scraps to use when making bone broth. You can even save onion peels. I save chicken bones in another freezer bag until I have enough to make a batch of broth. 🥘
There are various ways that I stay motivated. I observe the things that we already have with which to feed and entertain ourselves (a pantry full of food, TV/books/computer/board games/outside games, etc.) and that we don't 'need' to go out every time we feel like being entertained. It helps that I am a homebody. Sometimes I feel whiny about cooking, but then I remember that my Grandmothers would have felt like queens if they'd had on hand what I have. They would have been proud to have the food TO cook and not belly-ached about cooking it. When I want clothes, I think about the Goodwill bags full of ill-fitting-for-me, out-dated, or unloved clothing that I've donated. I remember years ago when I couldn't afford many clothes and had to make do. I also remember when I didn't have money for lots of extra groceries. Buying in bulk was unthinkable then. When the nearest super Walmart opened, my sister in law asked me to go see it with her (super WM's were new back then). We decided to buy groceries. I remember feeling like crying because she filled a heaping cart with groceries and I could not. I looked longingly at all of the 'nice' varieties that I couldn't afford and it hurt. It makes me grateful that I can now afford the groceries we need and I stock ahead. Another sort of motivation for me is that we live a very 'home-centric' lifestyle and there is ALWAYS work to be done on our homestead. I really don't have much time for shopping or going places for fun~~which I don't mind because, for me, work IS fun. My kids tease me because when they ask me what I like to do for fun, I answer, "I like to accomplish things!" I like to work. The biggest thing I've done to motivate myself not to spend extra money is to distance myself from stress as much as possible. I think constant stress triggers us to over-everything...over-eat, over-spend, over-talk, over-sleep OR over-work, etc. Finding balance in other areas has helped me to find balance in finances. Great question!
Emmy I was in tears watching this video which may sound strange but it was because your beautiful spirit was bringing me comfort. I don’t know how to explain it but the Lord was speaking to me through you. I really needed some encouragement 😔 💔 You and Paul are the parents of RUclips. The 1st time I watched you I thought to myself...I wish Emmy was my Mom ❤️ Thank you both for spreading positivity. Sending you so much love & appreciation from Maryland
I remembered when my mom would boil a weiner and put it in my thermos and add a bun for a hotdog school lunch. It was such a nice change from sandwiches every day. This was the basis for a nice hot picnic lunch my husband and I enjoyed hiking in the outdoors the other day as well as a thermos of hot coffee and a cookie made an enjoyable end to a wonderful afternoon. I will have a fonder memory of that day than any restaurant meal would have been.
My husband and I retired young , at 50. We love to travel. I pack spices to take with us. I use the small zip lock type bags that they sell in pharmacy dept that are used for medication. I pack things like steak seasoning, basil, Italian, garlic salt, cinnamon, chili powder, cumin, etc. I also take vanilla in small leak proof container to have on hand for French toast or pancakes. I put them all in a larger zip lock bag with a few coffee filters, sheets of parchment paper to use when cooking bacon in the oven.
I was cleaning at my Mom's house all day today. I got home around dinner time and I hadn't prepared anything ahead of time and my husband didn't make anything. Instead of eating out, you inspired me to eat at home. We had gluten free pasta with kielbasa (that was frozen, but my husband thawed it in the pan and cut it up). I cut up some the organic strawberries I bought 2 days ago, so they didn't get wasted. We both enjoyed a meal home together, without our 3 kids who are busy college age students. I didn't feel like being frugal today, but I had listened to a couple of your videos on the way to my Mom's. Thank you for inspiring me. May God bless you. ❤
When we were younger we wanted a nice home and that was our motication and then when we had kids at home, I knew I wanted them to be able to go to college. They did get educations and doing well. After that retirement savings was our goal. We are "comfortable" on our Social Security so I am a great believer in goals as a way to a good life without a lot of money and stress, one dollar at a time. I can hear my mom from my childhood, "pennies make dimes, dimes make dollars".
I love your videos. I'm not always motivated after working 11 hours a day six days a week sometimes, but every time I see your videos I go to the fridge and cook something and do inventory of the food we have. So you keep me motivated and I want to thank you so much for that. Last year we didn't have any savings but this year with a little discipline and following your frugal advice we have saved almost 10K... Retiring early it's our goal. Hugs and blessings to you guys.
I keep motivated by making eating at home a personal mental challenge. Like: how many times can I not go out to eat this month. We are usually always disappointed with the takeout food and restaurant food quality and it’s expensive, so we eat at home and then go out for fun. I cook every day. I think it’s fun to try and come up with different recipe ideas with what I have in the fridge. And, we just really prefer my cooking 😊
You are right about being disappointed with takeout food. I went to Chik-fil-A the other night and my order was wrong. After confirming it twice I didn't think it was necessary to check it before I left the drive-thru. I also got Chinese food last night. After the cashier asking me about sauces and me asking for duck and soy sauce when I got home I had no sauces in the bag. I called the restaurant and the cashier apologized, but I was disappointed. I doubt if I will be getting takeout food in the near future.
By the time we queue and often we have to wait for things being prepared without a sauce or other condiment I count that actually to make a soup or salad or sandwhich at home is much faster than getting the fast food. We recently had some good choices on eat same day items so I could get a healthy salad for 20 cents and I don't even need to prep anything.
Yes we decided last night, that we are no longer going to eat out, we eat out as it is once and a blue moon. I come to this conclusion when one of our fast food chain just had an inspection they got a "C," in their inspection, so no more getting take out moving forward. I like cooking my meals, and they are healthier. Welcome back, we missed you two, happy Sunday.
Right now my big motivator is paying off my remaining debt. I know that the sooner I can do that, the sooner I have more freedom, more choices, and more opportunities. I keep that in the forefront of my mind so I avoid needless spending and I keep on track w/ my plan.
WE Recently became debt and mortgage free, and recently retired in December. Your channel helped me prepare for that, and now keeps me motivated. I only go grocery shopping once a week, and I challenge myself each week to stay within a certain amount. Love the Tuesday video idea! Have a great weekend!
To keep motivated I work out how many hours I would have to work in order to purchase the item/takeout. It's a bit sobering when you do it like that. Plus like you I always have a couple of things in the freezer that I can prepare/cook in often a shorter timeframe than a takeaway pizza would take.
What keeps me motivated may sound a little cruel but whenever we want to go out to eat or splurge on something that isn’t a necessity, my husband and I think about my mother-in-law who is recently widowed, who has never lived on a budget, whose spouse did not leave her any money when he passed away, and who is currently over spending by $1000 a month… So I think about our future and how I don’t want to live that way and reinforce bad habits and make bad decisions that Negatively affect our future
Yh my mother in law is doing the same thing. Also has to pay for carers etc and as they never did any house mainenance the house is in bad repair. I never want to be in same situation so were planning to downsize and future proof the house.
I don't see that as being cruel.its called a reality check, and sooooo many desperately need it. I see people begging for money, decked out head to toe in saville row clothing from London as in,one pair of socks from saville row is $300.you can afford saville row clothing.beats by Dre headphones at$250 on the cheap end.bur not groceries.priorities,folks.
When I feel like spending money I have a cook up day and put up lots of future meals in the freezer. I feel virtuous and productive instead of costly and wasteful! 😂
I always keep good food in, something easy, quick and tasty. I pick up an unfinished craft project or play with my paints when I get that gut wrenching urge to buy craft supplies. I try to identify things I need well in advance then spread the purchases over time. Last year was a pair of ankle boots, and a warm cardigan. Makes me feel like I’ve had a treat. If I urgently need an away day and am on a very low spend month, I’ll go to the beach with a picnic and a good book, collect some shells, maybe take some reference photos for a future painting. I always come home feeling happy and grateful with the bank account untouched!!!
Those bendy carrots… cut a little off one end and stand them up straight in a glass of cold water… they will recover enough to use in a soup or stew! If not… compost!
$23 to fix a pipe and faucet is far cheaper than a plumber would charge.also, handy tip,ask your homeowners insurance company what contractors they use. for any landscaping near power lines, many power companies will trim free of charge. install security cameras inside and around property with motion sensors,on doors and windows.it saves thousands on homeowner insurance cars, get dash cameras,in case of accident.it lowers insurance rates . biking, get go pro cameras for helmets.you want video evidence of accidents before the evidence is tampered with
Dashcams are great they will also protect you from people knocking into your doors "by accident" they get more careful when they see it is installed and will really save you piece of mind in case of an accident.
When you compared being frugal to exercise, that really hit home for me. I definitely hate to exercise but feel so much better after I do. And if I fail, I have to remember that I can have a fresh start tomorrow-we’re only human!! Thank you so much for all of your inspiring content!!
Emmy, I know pushing ourselves too. Not using the drier hang cloths alotbof crockpot items electric here has gone threw the roof. Curtains blinds open natural light in electric lights off. Have a great weekend.
I have plenty of hobbies and chores to do so when I get the urge to shop or spend it's usually when I'm in the middle of doing something that I don't want to do, or am tired of working on. Being aware of emotional triggers for spending helps. I often just change the task I'm working on and the urge goes away. We're 20 miles from fast food, and I love my own cooking, so that's no problem. " Keep your hands busy", Mom always said. I'm binding a quilt while listening to you.
You look so tanned and rested! I stay motivated by looking at my debt repayment plan often. By this time next year I'll be debt-free, and I feel particularly proud because I'm doing my debt repayment on a small pension and social security. I love cooking meals for my friends because they're so appreciative, and that keeps me motivated, too. Walks by the river, library visits, and BritBox on Roku are my no or low cost entertainment. Your encouragement every week keeps me motivated, too. ❤️❤️❤️
Eating out has become really unsatisfying. Few staffers, slow service and food is not that great. It's much more fun to buy really good quality ingredients and make something special at home. Game nights are great too. Being able to sit down and really visit with guests is much more pleasant at home. It's healthier to stay at home in times of widespread illness too.
You look so refreshed from your trip ! Glad you had a great time. Honestly , it can be quite the challenge to stay motivated . We just dig our heels in a bit deeper. Sometimes , a quick trip to Tractor Supply just to see the baby chicks is enough. It's only 5 minutes away & I try to make it a wish come true trip. Not purchasing anything..but if wishes came true I 'd buy that 6 foot metal rooster and put him in the front yard. lol.
I recently discovered Tractor Supply but the closest one is 40 minutes away. BUT, great news, one is being built close enough to walk to from my home. If anyone sees a lady walking down the street in NE Ohio with a 6’ metal rooster, that’s me!
Well if I feel I need motivating I put your channel on. Honestly I do like listening to your ideas. You are both very engaging. I am a 70 year old granny and I still need motivating! ha! Seriously though you are very easy to listen to and the best thing of all? You never ask for anything. I’ve unsubscribed from many channels as I feel uncomfortable when they introduce their politics, their ‘undercover’ begging and seemingly unforgiving views. I have total respect for you both and your non- judgemental attitude. It’s obvious that you just want to help people navigate these difficult times. Thank you, sincerely. You are a breath of fresh air. Sending love and best wishes from England.
Jennifer thank you so much for the encouraging and uplifting comment! I read it to Paul! We so appreciate you taking the time to make our hearts smile!! Love and best wished right back!
It was just great seeing you both miss your channel and all your enthusiasm for frugal tips and living could not wait to I seen your video after work today !
I stand in front of the refrigerator and scream for a minute and sometimes just stamp my feet. Then I look and find something to make and remember that it is worth it to save money on our food so that we can go out for a special occasion.
Your analogy to exercise was fantastic. I stay motivated by reminding myself of the verse Proverbs 31:27. " She looketh well to the ways of her household and doesn't eat the bread of idleness." I know God wants me to do my best for my family and I know homemade cooking plays a big part of that. 😊
good to get down there and get these things done before the really hot weather sets in. I also love watching Salt Water Taffy being made, on of my favorite frugal early summer activities is to go to York Beach Maine (day trip) to walk the beach before the crowds set in, watch them make Salt Water Taffy in the windows of The Goldenrod and pick up a Lime Rickey (refrshing summer drink) to go with a picnic lunch I brought. (p.s. love the yellow hobnail glass vase)
@@FrugalMoneySaver I have not seen that video, I only ecently discovered your channel a couple months ago and haven't gone through all yet but I will definitely search for that one. I used to live one town inland from Ogunquit (town north of York) so went quite frequently. Although I live in NH now I still go there a couple of times a year in the beginning and end of the season before it gets too crowded. Hope to get there for the Memorial Day weekend opening and a stroll on the beach.
Welcome back! Great video and great idea for upcoming Tuesday videos. I don’t always want to save money either and since I work outside the home again - grocery evenings are always the hardest nights for me to want to cook dinner when I get home. If I don’t get something in the crockpot that morning, eggs or grilled cheese are always my quick and easy standbys. Or if I know I have some leftovers they could be made into creative sandwiches I will actually think about those the whole afternoon to build the excitement of cooking on a grocery night. Fortunately my husband is not a picky eater when it comes to dinner time. And for those stretches of time when we get a little grumpy about not spending money, we dangle that carrot of motivation before us: there’s always something that we’re saving for or a bigger plan that we have for our money. If we can defer spending now, we can reach that goal faster or save a little extra for something fun in the future. Happy Friday.
It's so satisfying to learn and complete a DIY home repair. I research and ask knowledgeable friends for project tips and then get the needed parts at the hardware store. I buy extra components in case I need them (like a spare wax ring for toilet) and return the parts I didn't need to use. Started doing this when I had a couple of emergency mid-project runs to the hardware store. I also use good-quality parts and know the job was done with care. Feels good.
With wilted produce such as carrots (etc.), or even the cast offs (tops/ends that get trimmed), save in a gallon size ziplock in the freezer & when the bag is full, throw contents into a crockpot, fill with water, & turn to high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours (or overnight) then strain the liquid into freezer safe containers... homemade vegetable broth!
Hello Emmy and Paul. You asked what keeps us motivated. Well, I have to tell you that when I am feeling lazy negative or wasteful I say to myself "what would my darlin Mum have said, though or done" and I hear her lovely wise voice in my head saying her time honoured truths and wisdom.😁
When I "feel"like going through the drive thru,I pause and look for something I can cook in the microwave! For example; when we have leftover veggies from our meals I place those veggies in a compartment divided microwavable dish when all cavities are full over time stored in the freezer and cook that tv dinner in microwave!
Great to see you guys! Glad to hear you enjoyed the trip. It looked fun (and productive!) OMG, that lasagna lunch looked delicious. Better than any restaurant, in my opinion. 👍😊💕
Hi Emmy and Paul! Great video! I sometimes do fail with saving money, but most of the time, I do try.😁 We don't eat out as much. I will tell myself you can do it when you get home. I look for markdowns and I shop at a discount food store. Have a great weekend.
what keeps me motivated #1 is going over my budget and seeing how far my frugal journey has taken me this last 14 months. #2 frugal channels like this one.
A couple notes on cooking… When I cook on vacation, I try to come up with a meal plan that fits the venue…as you did with shrimp scampi. Fir example, we went to the beach and had clam chowder enhanced with many clams! I usually have a meal ready to go when we return from a long trip. The 7 can taco soup is a good one, served with tortilla chips.
I am pretty sure you could have sliced up those carrots and set them in water to soak up the water (they are just dehydrated and need a little water). I did this once with a "bendy" beet 😂. If you still feel icky with the texture you could just cook them and blend them into a stew or a soup/use them in a stock.
We went to Barefoot Landing the last time we went to Myrtle Beach, and we loved it too. We live near Gatlinburg, TN, and we enjoy watching candy making at the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen in Gatlinburg...they have 33 flavors of delicious taffy. Great video, as usual.
My husband and I are on vacation right now. We packed a cooler with lunch meat, rolls, snacks and drinks. We ate the sandwiches for lunch on our way here and for dinner another day. Our hotel has a complimentary hot daily breakfast, (which filled us up and we were never hungry for lunch) wine & cheese hour every evening and then hot fresh baked cookies at 8:00! We ordered out a pizza for dinner another night. Our food bill is very low this trip and its a good feeling. We ate out our first night here, and will eat out again tonight our last night here as we are here celebrating our wedding anniversary 😁 I keep myself motivated by logging in and keeping an eye on our bank account to see what our monthly spending has been so far. I hate to see it add up and it will reign us back in if needed. Love the Tuesday video idea!
Hubby and I each get an allowance every week. He hasn't been spending his so it lasts a couple of weeks. He has a company car and the company pays for gas, insurance and maintenance. That is a blessing! My allowance I've been spending on Walgreen's deals. Last month and this month they have had Pampers diapers on sale at 2 for $20. I get a $5 register reward (can be used as cash at Walgreen's) so I can get them for $15. My friend has a new granddaughter and I know and love the mom. So I've been buying diapers for them as my gift to them and it fulfills my frugal bargain hunting skills.
We're still packing, down to 5 days before moving day. To help me nto go overboard with shopping, I just remember everything has to either get packed for the moving truck or it has to somehow fit in the car. Part of me wants to stockpile so we don't have to shop, but that food has weight, and on the moving truck, extra weight is extra $$$. I've been watching/tracking sales at the stores there and I think I have cracked it so I know how I will shop.
I love how you both are on the same frugal page. This lifestyle would be next to impossible if you aren't both committed to the frugal journey. You are an inspiration to everyone!
Great video. I stay motivated by putting the $$ I would have sent on take out, etc... into savings. I never realized how much I spent until I started this. 😀 Barefoot Landing used to be a small place back in the day. I love watching taffy being made.
@@FrugalMoneySaver The musical prelude in the opening of your video, with the lovely blooms, is a piece called "Morning Mood" from Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite #1".
I absolutely love your chanel 💐 both of you remind me of my husband and I💜 your homes are beautiful, your lifestyle makes so much sense and your recipes are always so helpful 💐 thank you! Now in days I see so many millennials wasting so much due to the new aesthetics, new trends and new ideas and plainly just keeping up with the joneses and I can't wrap my head around so much debt they accumulate due to that. I want to say thank you for sharing your wisdom and insights with all of us💐 please, please share with all of us freezer meal ideas to have ready to avoid the need to have to buy something when rushing or last minute needing of a meal, thank you again 💐 best regards 🥀 Miss. Lilly 🥀
Thanks for sharing your frugal wins! Paul being so handy (and doing the job right) saves you guys a lot. And nice work for cooking dinner after such a long drive. That is an accomplishment! We try to stay motivated to save money and cut back on eating out by keeping in mind our future goals (travel, home improvement, better vehicles, etc.). Also, I am not afraid to be honest with friends and tell them that we are trying to eat out less, so they don't have expectations to go out with us all the time. But, I do also include eating out and entertainment in our budget, so we aren't totally deprived. It is also important for spouses to be on the same page and keep eachother motivated to spend and eat out less. Last night, I was interested in going out, and my husband put on the brakes and reminded me that we may go out this weekend and should probably hold off. It worked!
Sometimes you can save the carrots if you put them in very cold ice water all they need to do is be rehydrated if they were rotten that's different but if they were just bendy put them in ice water
Hi Emmy and Paul. It's so nice to be able to diy when things need to be done. I'm so blessed to have a hubby that can do just about anything. We have saved so much money. I'm motivated by our plans to finish our mortgage early, in about two years. Can't wait! Great video guys! Glad to hear you had a nice vacation. 🙂
My family and I used to stay at the resort across the street from Barefoot landing every year ( ocean creek resort) until my daughters health declined.. miss it, so nice seeing it again through you 💜
I look forward to your videos so much. Sometimes it feels kinda lonely being on a frugal journey when it seems every one around you is spend, spend, spend. Not that our current economy is a good thing but in some way it normalizes being frugal. Anyway, when I feel like spending I rearrange my decor or reorganize an area repurposing things from one room to another. It feels like I went shopping but I didn’t spend a thing. Also, if I can “upgrade” something for no money, I’ll do that, too. I spray painted knobs on our bookcases from bright gold to matte black using spray paint we already had and that little thing made a difference. Thank you for keeping us motivated and reminding us how blessed we are. ❤️
We have a little trap door in our bedroom, unfortunately we have to seal it and reseal it if there is a problem ( and repaint it!) but I feel lucky to have it! I love the cactus! How beautiful! Our library system offers free vouchers or very low-cost vouchers to get you into museums and walking tours. Also Hoopla for FRee books & movies. Paul, you need a vacation from your vacation!! Be well & thank you!! THat rigatoni!
That necklace perfectly matches your blouse! I wish I could hang my laundry. Unfortunately my HE washer uses so little water it doesn’t get the pet hair out. The only way to get rid of it is by tossing it into the dryer. Maybe I should get a new low efficiency washer…🤔
Emmy, go to Calabash and turn right at the Grapevine Restaurant. Go all the way down to the water and you will see the shrimp man. His shrimp are fresh and cheap!!! We always go there.
Thank you for your motivation. If i think about a problem i searching the web. Blogs, RUclips and so on. On this way I often find more ideas on beeing frugal. A goal is often a good motivation to go on. For example - we needed 400 Euro for my sons school trip. I started to sell stuff on ebay, starting a herb garden instead buying and I always reached my goals. this week we made a lot of wood for our oven. The news and increasing prices are motivation enough.
So glad to see you and Paul back and that you had a successful and relaxing trip with your son. OH BOY!!!! The new Tuesday videos is such an awesome idea!!! You have my mind churning lol I am excited to see others ideas too. One of the things we do is in the evening after dinner and cleaning the kitchen we go ahead and get the coffee pot ready for the morning. We pack breakfasts and lunches for work. It makes mornings much smoother and no buying breakfast or lunch out for work.
So glad y’all enjoyed y’all little get away to the little house with y’all son! I really missed your videos. Y’all honestly helped me get through Covid, chemo, and radiation. I’m in remission now!👍🙏🏼
We visit Little River, SC and love it there! The shopping center was a great place to spend time and enjoy the water with fish and window shop! Great video!
Your videos keep me motivated! I save your videos to watch when walking on the treadmill. When I see your videos post, I plan the next time I walk and watch Emmy and Paul!❤️
I love the Myrtle Beach house videos and hope you keep them coming. Getting away from everyday life in a simple setting is a great way to recharge. Your place there reminds me of an interesting AirBnB. Frugality is so ingrained in our lifestyle that it doesn't feel that hard. We were both brought up in rural, Depression Era families who shared their memories of truly hard times. It tends to make you push a bit harder to get the potatoes in and nurture your chickens even if you'd rather watch TV. But it does take planning to be frugal--to have a meal ready to pull from the freezer when you're tired, or to use a camper van for travel, cooking your own food along the way. We don't have to be super tight anymore because we have been thrifty. There is room to splurge on a meal out or an interesting event. We just don't need to be entertained by those extras all the time. It's fun to come up with alternatives, like hosting a lunch or sharing homecrafted beer on the deck with neighbors. We just had quite the get-together with our neighbors, watching thunderstorms roll in while sitting under the covered deck. They are farm folk too, so the party's over. Time to tend what needs tending and get ready for Monday. The garden's in so tomorrow morning we plan to forage and hunt morels. Free entertainment and potentially good eats.
Hey Emmy and Paul! Love seeing you guys every week! We have “hatches” for our showers too. One in our master bathroom and one in the hallway (for the other bathroom), and we do live in a 1950’s house, so I guess that’s why we have them. We have tile floors, and had a few crack in one bedroom so my husband had to learn how to replace tile. He did a great job!
I am always impressed by the grocery deals you find- I have been trying to "up" my coupon & sale shopping game because you inspired me! :) today I scored an entirely "free" roll of paper towels by clipping a digital coupon! I would normally never buy a single roll of paper towels, but free is free!!! & I will definitely use them!
This was so inspiring. Doing things yourself and saving money takes discipline and work. I try to think of the feeling I will experience if I do nothing that day and how I will feel if I accomplish even a little bit and that usually makes me get up and make an effort. Sometimes just getting started is the hardest part and you end up doing more than you thought you could. Also, thinking of something we want to have later makes it easier to do without less important things now. Thanks.
I really enjoyed watching this video Emmy and Paul, I stay motivated not to give in to takeaways by trying to make sure I have leftovers or something simple to cook/eat when it all feels like too much and by remembering all the great frugal advice and common sense I have heard from you and other frugal channels ❤️
Thanks so very much Sabrina! So happy you are part of our channel!
Isn't that the truth Sue...thanks for sharing!
Sit quietly and have a cuppa whilst watching my favoutie channels which l find give me the motivation then move on whilst in the mood 😊 😊😊 😊
Yay! Thank you!
LeeAnn such great trips! Thanks for taking the time to share!
NJ brilliant comment! Thanks so much for sharing!
Cheers
GREAT IDEA!!! Love that!!
Emmy and Paul, you two are truly inspiring. My absolute favourite RUclips couple. Thank you for encouraging and inspiring us. Lots of love. ⚘
Debbie thank you! You made my heart smile!!
I agree. Inspiring and so likable. I look forward to their videos, especially when they share old recipes.

You are both natural teachers, great at explaining and breaking things down. You really did pick a great retirement project by choosing to share your mindset and lifestyle with the nearly 25k in your frugal family!
So kind Library Minnie! Thank you!
Those sad, limp carrots are not a frugal fail if you have a bag in the freezer for veggie scraps to use when making bone broth. You can even save onion peels. I save chicken bones in another freezer bag until I have enough to make a batch of broth. 🥘
We do the same! Thanks!
What a great comment! I so agree with your statement about stress...you are so right! Thanks for sharing!!
Oh, Thank you for the encouraging comment! What a lovely sentiment!! We are so happy our videos bless you!! Much love back!
Oh I love that! thanks so much for taking the time to share...I couldn't agree more!
Brilliant idea that would be lovely for autumn
YAY!!! So proud of you and hubby! That is wonderful!!
Such a great saying!
OH MY GOSH!!!! That is so wonderful! Good for you! YAY!!!!!
I couldn't agree more Kathleen!
I doubt if I will be getting takeout food in the near future.
yep.places get orders wrong, rush you out, crappy service, etc.like,it ain't my fault you work this job
Keep that one Emmy, he’s a good lad!
LOL! That he is!
Right now my big motivator is paying off my remaining debt. I know that the sooner I can do that, the sooner I have more freedom, more choices, and more opportunities. I keep that in the forefront of my mind so I avoid needless spending and I keep on track w/ my plan.
You can do it Gretchen! Such a great goal!
That is a brilliant motivator, really tough but so rewarding, fair play to you.
WE Recently became debt and mortgage free, and recently retired in December. Your channel helped me prepare for that, and now keeps me motivated. I only go grocery shopping once a week, and I challenge myself each week to stay within a certain amount. Love the Tuesday video idea! Have a great weekend!
YAY!! D G that is wonderful!!!
To keep motivated I work out how many hours I would have to work in order to purchase the item/takeout. It's a bit sobering when you do it like that. Plus like you I always have a couple of things in the freezer that I can prepare/cook in often a shorter timeframe than a takeaway pizza would take.
Love that! So true Kathryn!
I do the same thing. I don't want to be a financial burden on my kids.
Oh gosh I'm so sorry to hear that...
Yh my mother in law is doing the same thing. Also has to pay for carers etc and as they never did any house mainenance the house is in bad repair. I never want to be in same situation so were planning to downsize and future proof the house.
@@dawncatalano7443 Me too!
I don't see that as being cruel.its called a reality check, and sooooo many desperately need it.
I see people begging for money, decked out head to toe in saville row clothing from London
as in,one pair of socks from saville row is $300.you can afford saville row clothing.beats by Dre headphones at$250 on the cheap end.bur not groceries.priorities,folks.
When I feel like spending money I have a cook up day and put up lots of future meals in the freezer. I feel virtuous and productive instead of costly and wasteful! 😂
That's a great idea! Works every time!
I couldn’t agree more! Just a quick getaway even to a local park is so refreshing!
Those bendy carrots… cut a little off one end and stand them up straight in a glass of cold water… they will recover enough to use in a soup or stew! If not… compost!
Into the compost they went!
My husband is very good at DYI’s but he can’t do it anymore because of medical reasons !!! We are doing are gardening now too
$23 to fix a pipe and faucet is far cheaper than a plumber would charge.also, handy tip,ask your homeowners insurance company what contractors they use.
for any landscaping near power lines, many power companies will trim free of charge.
install security cameras inside and around property with motion sensors,on doors and windows.it saves thousands on homeowner insurance
cars, get dash cameras,in case of accident.it lowers insurance rates .
biking, get go pro cameras for helmets.you want video evidence of accidents before the evidence is tampered with
Dashcams are great they will also protect you from people knocking into your doors "by accident" they get more careful when they see it is installed and will really save you piece of mind in case of an accident.
When you compared being frugal to exercise, that really hit home for me. I definitely hate to exercise but feel so much better after I do. And if I fail, I have to remember that I can have a fresh start tomorrow-we’re only human!! Thank you so much for all of your inspiring content!!
Yes, that’s how I think about it sometimes!
Emmy, I know pushing ourselves too.
Not using the drier hang cloths alotbof crockpot items electric here has gone threw the roof. Curtains blinds open natural light in electric lights off.
Have a great weekend.
You as well Sandra! Thank you!
You two are truly a blessing!
Jenn that is so kind! Thank you!
Oh a quilt! How wonderful!!
Thank you for being here to educate someone like myself who doesn't have much financial education.
So happy our videos are helpful!
Sharon your motivation sounds perfect!! Thanks so much for the kind words as well!
Great job! Keep going and we know Emmy and Paul tips will help. 🥳
Y'all motivate me to be better twice a week 😀
I love this channel ❤
YAY! Catina thanks from the bottom of my heart!
June 4th,in my area is Edgewater days,a huge yard sale.over 200 vendors selling all kinds of things.9sm until 5 pm.cash only.its an annual thing.
Sounds fun!
I couldn’t agree more with this comment! Thanks so much for sharing!
Not purchasing anything..but if wishes came true I 'd buy that 6 foot metal rooster and put him in the front yard. lol.
We do that too. Tractor Supply is a fun family place to take the grandson too!
LOL! We love Tractor supply too! Such a fun store!
@@FrugalMoneySaver it sure is !!!

LOL!! You must be watching me Laura!
Very well said!
good to get down there and get these things done before the really hot weather sets in.
OH MY GOSH! We love York Beach! Did you see the video we did on our York Beach trip?
@@FrugalMoneySaver I have not seen that video, I only ecently discovered your channel a couple months ago and haven't gone through all yet but I will definitely search for that one. I used to live one town inland from Ogunquit (town north of York) so went quite frequently. Although I live in NH now I still go there a couple of times a year in the beginning and end of the season before it gets too crowded. Hope to get there for the Memorial Day weekend opening and a stroll on the beach.

I’d love to answer your question of the day, but I haven’t figured it out yet… My husband and I, our word for the year is discipline, we’re trying…lol
That's good enough Sheryl! That's all we can do!
What a great attitude Susie! Thanks for sharing!
missed you guys. all the way from South Africa
YAY! Thanks so much Shareen! We missed you all too!
Love your Tuesday video idea. I cannot wait to see what this adventure brings.

Feels good.
Absolutely right! It’s amazing what we can do when we put our mind to it.
Yay! These were pretty bad though. They went into the compost for food for our plants
So true! Love that Merryl
When I "feel"like going through the drive thru,I pause and look for something I can cook in the microwave! For example; when we have leftover veggies from our meals I place those veggies in a compartment divided microwavable dish when all cavities are full over time stored in the freezer and cook that tv dinner in microwave!
That's a great idea! So creative!

what keeps me motivated #1 is going over my budget and seeing how far my frugal journey has taken me this last 14 months. #2 frugal channels like this one.
YAY! Thanks Melanie!
A couple notes on cooking…
When I cook on vacation, I try to come up with a meal plan that fits the venue…as you did with shrimp scampi. Fir example, we went to the beach and had clam chowder enhanced with many clams!
I usually have a meal ready to go when we return from a long trip. The 7 can taco soup is a good one, served with tortilla chips.
That's a great idea!
Thanks so much Linda!
How I stay motivated: I hate being in debt!! Thinking about the ‘after’ of the spend often encourages me to breathe and step back.
So true! Great motivation!
LOVE that! That is exactly what we do...all food is packed and eaten on the road! Happy Anniversary and many many more!
Thank you!
Oh that is so kind and generous of you!! Wonderful!
That's great Jennifer! Have a wonderful safe move!
I stay motivated by watching your videos. They really encourage me. I love you❤
Linda, that is so wonderful! Thank you!
I think about how much a meal would cost and what I would spend to make it at home. It's scary to see the cost difference..!
I agree Mary!
I think you are the most organized utube channel that I watch!
LOL! That is very kind of you to say...I'm not always organized though!
I love how you both are on the same frugal page. This lifestyle would be next to impossible if you aren't both committed to the frugal journey. You are an inspiration to everyone!
Yes, we knew that before we married!
Thanks 🙏
Great video. I stay motivated by putting the $$ I would have sent on take out, etc... into savings. I never realized how much I spent until I started this. 😀 Barefoot Landing used to be a small place back in the day. I love watching taffy being made.
Yes, it really expanded when they revitalized it several years back! Thanks so much Cat!
Awesome video ! We don’t travel much anymore. But we always took a cooler with extra snacks .
It's the only way we do travel LOL!
Thank you, Enny -- absolutely LOVE the Peer Gynt Suite!! What a perfect start to the day. 😄
Oh, my apologies -- Emmy! Fumbled the keys...
I thought it was Spring from the Four Seasons by Vivaldi?
I'm not sure what you meant?
@@bernieozzie7480 I like that, too -- good sprightly piece, especially for piano. 😊
@@FrugalMoneySaver The musical prelude in the opening of your video, with the lovely blooms, is a piece called "Morning Mood" from Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite #1".
Mezi rigatoni is my favorite and cheese ravioli 😋😊❤️ love the Tuesday video ideas
Thank you 😋
I absolutely love your chanel 💐 both of you remind me of my husband and I💜 your homes are beautiful, your lifestyle makes so much sense and your recipes are always so helpful 💐 thank you! Lilly 🥀
Yes, we will have a video about that very soon! Thanks so very much for the kind words!
you look wonderful in that green or turq colour with your tan! I enjoy your videos great repair video
Oh thank you! Appreciate you watching!
It worked!
Oh that's wonderful you and hubby work together on this! Love to hear that Amy! Thanks for sharing!
we rarely eat out anymore.food quality is pitiful,it's expensive, and does rather unfortunate things to our stomachs,so we stopped.
Sometimes you can save the carrots if you put them in very cold ice water all they need to do is be rehydrated if they were rotten that's different but if they were just bendy put them in ice water
They went into the compost...they were scary LOL!
Thanks so much Tracey!
Barefoot landing looks like so much fun!
It really is!
My family and I used to stay at the resort across the street from Barefoot landing every year ( ocean creek resort) until my daughters health declined.. miss it, so nice seeing it again through you 💜
Oh so happy you enjoyed our video...
Love your ideas on "upgrades!" That's brilliant! Thanks so much for being here DCupcake!!
LOL! We always say that when we get home LOL!!!
Yes, I always throw my clothes in the dryer before I hang them for about 5 min. Dixie hair gone lol
Emmy, go to Calabash and turn right at the Grapevine Restaurant. Go all the way down to the water and you will see the shrimp man. His shrimp are fresh and cheap!!! We always go there.
Oh yes! We have seen him before in past years! Thanks!
I love the idea of Viewer Choice Tuesday! Cool concept and looking forward to watching!
Awesome! Thank you! Hope you sen an idea Lisa!
Thank you for your motivation. If i think about a problem i searching
the web.
Those are wonderful creative ways to save money Gabi!
I love those dishes the pasta was served on
Thank you! Those our my "down south" dishes lol!
Looks a great lunch
Thanks!
That's such a great do ahead money saver Tammy! Yes, please think and share something you'd like to know from us!
So glad y’all enjoyed y’all little get away to the little house with y’all son! I really missed your videos. Y’all honestly helped me get through Covid, chemo, and radiation. I’m in remission now!👍🙏🏼
YAY!!!!! That is wonderful Rhonda! What a blessing!! Praise God!
We visit Little River, SC and love it there! The shopping center was a great place to spend time and enjoy the water with fish and window shop! Great video!
Thanks so very much Sue!
I use a compound interest calculator and look at how much the money I would have spent would be worth in 10 years. It keeps me going.
Such a clever idea!
I just love all your videos! Always such great advise.
Thanks so much Emil!
Your videos keep me motivated! I save your videos to watch when walking on the treadmill. When I see your videos post, I plan the next time I walk and watch Emmy and Paul!❤️
Oh my gosh I love that! Thank you so much for taking us along on your walk
Your Tuesday's video idea sounds like fun. You guys are so great. God bless you both.
Thank you so much! God bless you and yours Virginia!
Wonderful comment Sandra! Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh that's a wonderful talent to have Sandi! Tiles are difficult!
Goodness, I LOVE you both! Great camera work on the plumbing repair. You guys are a blessing in my life. Thank you.
Thanks so much! I was the camera person this time around LOL!!
Yay! I agree with free is free! We just got some free Planet Oat ice cream I have no idea what it’s going to be like LOL
Thanks.
agree. I do as much as possible on my good days so I don't feel so bad taking it easy on my bad days.(severe asthma)
That's solid logic Linda! Thanks!
I LIKE that idea. Thanks 😊
That's great Bex!
