Wow I really do notice the speed even just watching you on video! It's amazing looking! Sounds like the Pimax 8k could clearly (no pun intended) have an advantage in air combat, like il2 or DCS because it seems it would be easier to ID enemy targets sooner with its clarity and wide FOV. I unusually only flew servers that had the ID tags off. Off topic, but with all of the upgrades for airports and the world in general in msfs now, so many available on the market place, I wonder if anyone "owns the planet" yet, I imagine there are some out there with the cash flow to buy every bit of the airports, cities and terrain upgrades available in the sim!? Can't imagine what it would be but there should be an award, or whatever perk it is when we accomplish certain tasks in msfs but it should be a good one! Ok, crawling back under my rock now!

I love what the 8KX delivers and it certainly looks like the money no-object option for the best experience at the moment... I just can't reconcile paying 4x what I paid for the G2 on pre-order with rebate (or 3 times the G2 at current retail). I'm suspecting its not 3 or 4 times better than the G2.

@@justinspirational ahh sorry yes I was exaggerating, with the 15% off its "only" 3.6x the price I paid for the G2 so an absolute bargain 😂 I know it's better but not 3.6x better than the G2. @@MrWilfAdventures how is $1109 (the price of an 8kx in the sale currently and even less-$1,089.00-with Steve's code added) 3.6x the price of a g2 (which is $599.00)? You need to relearn your math- this is a sim dedicated channel- for simming you don't need to pay for controllers at all and at most need one 5 year old tech v1 basestation for 6DOF you can pick up for about $100 used and can still work/get 3dof without any base stations at all.. Even if you got 2 basestations and two used vive wands (if you were also interested in room scale) that would still only be around 2x the G2 price and subjectively worth every penny for the unique premium experience and options you get.. so please stop with your exaggerations in price differences as they simply are not true and the actual extra you pay for it above the G2 in real terms is worth every penny for te added options and immersion you get imho
Its not gonna be too long before another VR headset has the same specs as this pimax and at a much lower price - and thats what im waiting for. Unless Pimax gets realistic and brings the price down - then im sure they would sell a load. Great video steve. DCS is my main game :)
Why does the displayed picture on the screen look so blurry? I have yet to see a RUclips DCS VR video that looked anywhere as crisp as my 1440p 27" monitor. Makes me very hesitant to lay out the cash for a VR headset.
Considering that 8kx plus two basestations plus a set of controllers would cost me three times as much as I paid for my G2, I'll stick with it for now and wait for the next generation of VR headsets (and CPUs and GPUs that will be able to drive them)...
@@justinspirational not in my country. It's about $2000 here and a couple more hundred for a basestation. And I can't afford to have a headset only for sims, it has to be universal, like my G2 is.

@@justinspirational That’s a weak argument at best. I don’t want to go fishing around for second hand goods. However way you want to spin it, It’s still a very expensive headset. Same goes for the Vive Pro 2.
Yes I agree with you with the HP Reverb G2 V2, which I have, that the sweet spot is very small to me - and is very noticeable. Even my Rift S has better overall clarity in the lenses though the FOV may be a little less. My question is was the Pimax headset hard to setup and get working for you??? Read many find these headsets are not your plug and play type headsets. I don't know if I want to go back to external tracking devices - from my original Rift CV1 days (I still have that headset - but retired in a box). Thanks for your video.
I need to get back into il2!!! Thats why I got into VR in the 1st place. Steve's comment sounds like the pimax 8k could be a real advantage perhaps in the dog fight world of IL2 & DCS! The hardest part of il2 for me (in VR) was always identifying enemy planes before it was too late. We flew servers with no tags to ID enemy most of the time. I haven't even seen the il2 world thru my G2 yet, only thru my Rift S, so that should be a treat too.
@@4secsharkmr352 That's what I was afraid of, perhaps the pimax 8k might make it a little easier, but with the vast size of the sky, I doubt it could make that big of a difference either, but who knows?? Would be fun to know though!
This channel is about ALL sims, however I'm pretty sure I uploaded a video recently flying the brand new Stearman with the 8KX. More will be inbound soon don't worry!
I would rather hear about DCS, actually. I'm grateful he is taking the time to compare performance in both titles. I actually don't care for MSFS that much.
it runs great with DCS and DCS is where the most FUN is anyway (shooting/blowing up shit)- it is harder to run MSFS but still doable as there are so many options to tweak to get it just right for your system/improve performance- more than most other hmds offer- including various levels of fixed foveated rendering, dynamic foveated rendering, running at a smaller fov (whilst still being much larger than most other hmds still), changing refresh rate, running at 1440p/114hz, adding smart smoothing, turning off parallel projection, lowering in game graphics etc- for DCS turn HAGS off in windows graphics settings and restart pc- for MSFS2020 keeping it on apparently runs better
I ordered mine when you said that DCS was a clear winner in our convo on your poll. Thanks for this video. Have you thought about a motion rig at all? 😀
Have you come across any software or settings for the G2 or PiMax that 'amplifies' head movement. One real issue I face with dogfighting in VR is having to literally turn my head fully to look at my 6. Having a curve like the the TrackIR would take maybe an hour to get used too but make it so much easier to use. The distortion at the periphery (from your videos would be a deal breaker for me. The G2 is blurred outside the sweetspot but not distorted. Looking at the PiMax site, there doesn't seem a direct 'ship to UK' option so presumably USD plus import duty, VAT and handling 🙁
@@VRFlightSimGuy presumably you do to see your six, but I can see the wider FOV would reduce that, especially on ultrawide. BTW, I updated my comment to take into account edge distortion and delivery to UK. Think I'll wait for the 5090 as I said in another comment, although DCS is indeed a lot easier on the 10900K/3090.
As I commented on another of your videos, I wouldn't "upgrade" from G2 to 8KX because of the overall price and worse mic/headphones quality, but now I got another reason: base stations, and not because of the cost, but the transportation and setting: I'm teacher and every new course I work on a different place, moving house twice a year, therefore base stations are another real handicap. So summing up... better mic, G2/Index headphones solution, in/out tracking and THEN I'm in. However when you talk about the sweetspot and the FOV immersion I could imagine the feeling on Squadrons or Elite (I'm a space sim guy) and then I start salivating like a dog in front of a sausage. So I have good reasons to not to get the 8KX, but you're doing a f**cking good job convincing me of the opposite. Please, stop xD
i just recently bought the pimax 8KX- and i have returned it. notwithstanding the cost, i do not think VR technology is quite there yet. the pimax headset has a large field of view, however- it requires base stations and for whatever reason, my set would only detect and track one of them, it could not seem to locate two at the same time. the headset itself is very front heavy- the front of the headset tended to fall forward or sink low in front, throwing off the tracking with the base station. finally, you really have to begin sacrificing graphics detail to use it- all the things that make DCS so spectacular to begin with in graphics detail have to be sacrificed because of the performance issues with VR technology, it is simply resource heavy and taxes your system so that whatever immersion you get from the 3-D effect in VR is lost in frame rate stuttering and occasional tracking glitches and headset fatigue. that said, it does look awesome- but i think as a technology demonstrator at this time rather than useful for long DCS sessions. until the technology improves- and it will, i will go with a track IR solution before buying into VR again
Hey , would dcs run on high settings with a pimax 8kx and a 3080 ? im having a hard time deciding between the pimax and g2 simply because of fps . no doubt the pimax is nicer but will a 3080 give me high settings with good fps at 8k resoultion ?
Hi Hoffman, the 3080 will run the 8KX fairly well in DCS I'd say. It's certainly a beefy card for the job. I personally prefer the 8KX over the G2 for DCS (as mentioned in this video). Take care.
I'm running 32 core with 3080 OC and HP reverb G2 hotas warthog crosswind rudder pedals. Running everything at high except motion and heat vapor effect and moved the Slider in the VR to 0.7. Looks amazing and smooth in VR. Still playing with settings outside of the game, it looks like the default settings in the Geforce panel are working the best so far. But I haven't tested everything yet. It's been a learning curve with the rudder pedals.
I'm one of those people that always had a hankering for a pimax headset, but am also one of those that remembers how atrocious their customer service is when things go wrong, so as good ass these may seem i won't be getting one.
Their build quality and service has radically improved since the pimax vision range came out . They have learnt from their earlier mistakes... @@VRFlightSimGuy I'm interested in your opinion on the vive pro 2 and how it compares to the 8kx- expecting it to have a similar clarity to the 8kx with a narrower fov similar to the index and a bit wider than the G2's fov
Do you have settings posted anywhere? I am getting one specifically for DCS, and you said it took some fiddling with settings to get right. Would love to benefit from your experience! I have a similar rig as yours too.
If it was around the price range of G2 or a little more than that, I wouldn't mind buying one. But when we are talking about $1300 too much for most people to use daily for gaming.
You're both incorrect.. It's currently only $1105 with 15% off in the sale on the pimax website up until June 20th and more off further with Steve's code.. Never been cheaper and worth every penny
@@justinspirational Hate to rain on your parade but its actually you that is wrong. $1105 for the headset only.It needs expensive base stations for tracking and if you want to use is for anything other than flight/racing sims you need to purchase the god awful 'wand' controllers too.Overall you are looking at 1806 euros/2150 dollars. So,yeah at least 3 times as much as a reverb even with this 15% off.
@@Coxy-b34 nope you're incorrect.. This is a sim channel.. For sims you can get away with zero basestations if you can put up with 3dof.. For 6dof only one is needed and you only need the 5 year old v1 basestations to do that so you can get them really cheap used plus if simming is your thing you don't need controllers anyway.. Yes.. If you're into room scale, 2 used basestations provides the best tracking available tech wise today . And controllers wise.. I'm sure you can used wand controllers cheap too and they're far better than the reverb g2 controllers as well as much better tracking.. You pay for what you get and you do indeed get so much more for your money with the 8kx but still is a steal compared to other similar commercially oriented hmds like the xtal which are 3x as much yet on trying the xtal and 8kx in person at CES in January 2020 I actually preferred the 8kx and it is much more affordable relatively
@@justinspirational Again,it as you that is incorrect. I understand perhaps you're one of these sociopaths that feels the need to be contrary to comments on social media but you stated a price of $1150 and in your haste forgot to mention you need at the very least one base station. The G2s price can also be reduced if we start disposing of accessories such as controllers. *3dof is not acceptable at all. I've experienced it years ago when my Oculus sensors were not activated and its not something I or any VR enthusiast would consider an option. But if you really do think 3d of is viable then perhaps you should have opened your original comment with something like "Its not 3 x more expensive, it's about 2x more experience but you will be getting a much inferior VR experience becuse you will be limited to 3dof"? So,2x the price for a terrible semi VR experience and that's your most positive take on the G2 vs Pimax 8kx🤷♂️
I would be curious to see how this performs across all the current VR flight sims. AeroFly, XP11, Prepar3d, MSFS2020, DCS, etc. As much as I love VR I just don't see shelling out $2000 for a system that the G2 can do for a lot less money. However, if someone wants to send me a Pimax, I wouldn't complain.
the G2 cannot do the super immersive, situational awareness enhancing super wide fov and multiple options for tweaking like various refresh rates, foveated rendering, best tracking, two hmds in one etc all at the same time with almost the same clarity as the G2 and wider sweet spot- that's what you pay extra for with the 8kx and it's worth every penny imho
I will send back my Vive Pro2 today....because its just not a good enough improvement from the Reverb(1). I´ll try the Pimax 8kx next. Thanks for the video.
@@VRFlightSimGuy I ordered it, lets find out how good it is. I wonder if I´ll ever have that wow moment again like when I changed from the Rift CV1 to the Reverb1. There were worlds beetween the headsets
@@VRFlightSimGuy You wanted a Feedback: Well, the 8KX is simply the best headset I have used. Its clear, I can read my instruments even better than in the Reverb(G1), is has this fantastic huge picture. The VP2 was a disappointment, the 8KX is just great. For Sim Racing 75hz is not quite enough, but that should be history with a new graphics card. By the way: No tweaking necessary. I put it on, adjusted the strap, used the minimum IPD (I have 57, so I was really afraid) and I immediately had a clear and sharp picture. Lucky
It looks like there are several levels of displays and refresh rate options from Primax. Several have the large field of view. Lots of options. I can’t seem to figure out what is included with the headset. Do I need the base station? Hand trackers? These are great videos and I really appreciate hearing your opinions.
Thanks Bill. Yes the headset has far more configuration options than anything else I've tried. It's really a true enthusiast-level device. You'd need at least one base station for full tracking for flight sims. Version 1 base stations are much cheaper and would be fine. As for controllers, I'm happy not to have them for Sims. But you can get the index controllers (which I may invest in if I end up buying one which is very likely) ;)
Just ordered the Pimax on the Amazon Prime Deal. Thanks for this video! I started with the Rift S, then went to the Reverb Pro, then the Reverb G2. I think the tracking on the G2 sucks and the lack of a headphone jack. Can't wait to try this out with my 3090.
@@shanewilkerson1421 8kx is a great experience paired with a 3090. The setting up of lighthouses is a pain. Clarity and smoothness are excellent. I’m very happy with it. But when it comes to simplicity and ease of starting up, the G2 is ahead. Though when flying PIMAX for a while and going to the G2, you notice the scuba goggle effect. With a PIMAX you can look at the ground during low level stuff snd still have a view out of your peripheral to the front of the plane.
@@RiflemanLEONE Thank you for the follow up! I think I'm going to wait until I can pull the trigger on a pimax. I am using a Rift S right now, and I FEEL the goggle effect. I have flown into the ground multiple times while dog fighting on the deck. I never had the problem running track IR.

G2 sweetspot is pretty bad though. I immediately saw a difference - and not for the better - after owning Quest 1. Yes, that's Quest ONE. You can read stuff and it's pretty amazing that it's so sharp, but the sharpness is limited to a very small centered area, which is a massive bummer.
For my first vr set I've been contemplating the pimax8kx or the valve index and I think you helped me make up my mind. Think I'm going with the pimax now
@VR Flight Sim Guy sorry one last question.. Do you have to purchase anything additional for the "eye motion" that everyone seems to be talking about in reviews with the pimax. Is that some sort of software or equipment that makes you more subversive with movement?
Yeah about $5k+ including the minimum mandatory subscription and they don't have the super immersive wide fov of the 8kx that still has amazing clarity and they don't come with audio at all.. I'd love to try the Varjo vr-3 for the best 'human eye resolution' clarity known to man but will stick with my 8kx for the most affordable, most immersive next gen future proof tech available now
@@justinspirational which is all a similar sentiment to most of the comments here about the pimax. As I said there is a line, not the same for everyone.
@@Mark_Point I understand price is a big deal for most.. But the price difference between the G2 and 8kx is very much justified.. Not so between the 8kx and xtal or Varjo from a consumer point of view
I have the 8KX and highly recommend it- it isn't true 8K of course- 2 x 4K does not equal 8K but I run the 8KX well myself on only a 2080ti and is truly a next gen highly immersive, unbeatable experience available now,. ahead of its time imho- if you have Steve's GPU you'll do even better with almost all games/sims- it's future proof, probably only with a 4080/4090/4080ti and above will we probably be able to run sims at max fov and max resolution/ max in game/sim settings all simultaneously though I can just about do that already with my 2080ti and most built from the ground up VR games anyway and in the interim it's still possible to taste the future now with a 2080 or above and have a highly satisfying, game changing experience- the clarity and super wide fov combined is truly unparalleled and makes a big difference in sims especialy in trems of not just immersion, but also situational awareness and more accurate altitude, speed, depth perception also whilst also being able to read text/gauges very easily too
Pimax is not worth it now. Its too late. Wires, stations is big no no. Too much stuff can go wrong and a hassel compared to Reverb or Oculus. I would not use it if gotten for free. Why ? Well it needs more PC power than possible today. 3090 and i7 is not enough and thats a joke.

I've had the pimax 8kx for 2 months now and I can say that this thing is awesome.

Lol that’s the whole point
You don't have to move your head half as much in the Pimax. I must admit I really love that.
@@VRFlightSimGuy presumably you do to see your six, but I can see the wider FOV would reduce that, especially on ultrawide.
BTW, I updated my comment to take into account edge distortion and delivery to UK.

Lol buzzow. The down sides you mentioned I completely agree with. :)
i just recently bought the pimax 8KX- and i have returned it. notwithstanding the cost, i do not think VR technology is quite there yet. the pimax headset has a large field of view, however- it requires base stations and for whatever reason, my set would only detect and track one of them, it could not seem to locate two at the same time. the headset itself is very front heavy- the front of the headset tended to fall forward or sink low in front, throwing off the tracking with the base station. finally, you really have to begin sacrificing graphics detail to use it- all the things that make DCS so spectacular to begin with in graphics detail have to be sacrificed because of the performance issues with VR technology, it is simply resource heavy and taxes your system so that whatever immersion you get from the 3-D effect in VR is lost in frame rate stuttering and occasional tracking glitches and headset fatigue. that said, it does look awesome- but i think as a technology demonstrator at this time rather than useful for long DCS sessions. until the technology improves- and it will, i will go with a track IR solution before buying into VR again

The headset is not absolutely praisable, you got a 3090, for everyone's information. I would like someone to test it with a 2080ti.
If someone wants to send over a 2080ti, I'd gladly do that
@@VRFlightSimGuy I would, but I only have one 2080ti. I am planning on getting pimax in the future. That's $2,000.00
I’ll do you one better- I’m running it just fine on a rtx2080 (non super) and an i7 8700. It runs great.
@@LordeLIFE pimax is taxing on your pocket and your head ( not truly comfortable although the positive is the fov.
12:39 formula 1 sounds ?! 😂
That my friend, is the famous hornet "blue note" hoooooowl 😄😄
@@VRFlightSimGuy ahh indeed!
I think I hate you ... Reverb or PiMax ... No, no, I am sure I hate you. 😁
if u will be buying one ....can u use your discount code :P jk just a thought
That's a good point I'm not sure LOL
Please share to DCS VR Aviators Facebook group
Thanks :) I think I already have 👍
@@VRFlightSimGuy don't see your post there.. Only your previous video from the other day
I've just tagged you in the post (I think)!
@@VRFlightSimGuy yes that's me thanks..I see it now
i get the feeling that 99% would immediately get motion sickness the instant the plane starts moving - how on earth are you keeping from getting motion sickness??
If you are new to VR, take your time getting used to it. 10 minutes at a time before you build up your tolerance.
Nothing, because the game is not optimised for the VR. so for now this is just a waist of money.
Sorry, I just can't get over that all Chinese design/manufacturing thingy.
