Damasko DSub50 - Was it Worth the 6 Month Wait?

  • I'm speaking to you from the past! This video was filmed on June 2nd, with the intention of releasing it shortly thereafter when I got my first shipment of Damasko DSub50. Well, 6 months later, they are here!
The DSub50 follows on the DSub tradition of providing a beefy, purpose built 300 meter dive watch. But this one differs in 2 main aspects; #1, on the coolness factor, its done in full DAMEST coating, so it's super sleek and stealthy. And #2, inside beats a Damasko A26-2 movement, their own in-house automatic, hacking, hand-winding movement. This movement improves upon the ETA 2824-2 by eliminating its most common failure points.
Check out the DSub50 today: longislandwatch.com/damasko-a...

Thanks again Marc for the detailed video! This SubD50 has been on my radar since I first saw it 6 months ago. I’m so glad you strapped it up on the DLC Isofrane. That’s exactly how I was planning to wear it 🔥 I’ll be placing an order soon enough 🍻

Damasko is a real original german watch brand. They meanwhile even manufacture their own automatic movement. I phoned Mr. Damasko personally for manufacturing cnc machined components for our product range some months ago. They make their own cases and bracelets . These watches a real "in house" made. They even manufactured surface hardened watch cases for others (Sinn for example). Unfortunatly they felt unable to supply us with what I asked for. Anyway it´s a marvellous brand and a family business. I just need some more bucks to "pull the trigger" asap.
I think Marc got the right stuff from Germany for the US 👍👍👍

I just received mine yesterday from you! Luv the watch! I pre ordered a FKM Rubber Strap. Looks great on this timepiece! One big issue I do have with this purchase is that watch only came in a sunglasses case with a cheap piece of foam, and no paperwork like a warranty card, owner’s certificate or anything of that matter! Didn’t even come with directions on how to properly size the stock bracelet! For near $2300 I would have expected great packaging and such! Damasko could have done much better!

No doubt there is beauty in simplicity and this is a great example. I agree with some of the other comments regarding the price. Frankly, I think I'd have to already be a fan of the brand to want to invest that amount just to get an in-house movement. But having said that, I hope this beauty does attract a lot of buyers and that they find it worth the wait.

Great video! It is larger than I thought but would work well on my 7 inch wrist. I was wondering why it’s not ISO certified? I know it’s certified by other agencies but couldn’t get a satisfactory response from Damasko on the subject. Also, I wish the case and even the bezel wasn’t black but just bead blasted sub steel. I also wish it only had AR coating on the underside of the crystal.

@@nickslater9499 In case/bezel diameter and lug to lug, yes. Overall, thew Dsub is kind of in between sized compared to the two Sinns. The U1 is a bit thicker and heavier, while the U50 is thinner and lighter than the Damasko. I just thought the U50 comparison was more relevant considering it is a more recent release, also with 50 in the name, and the 500 vs 300 m WR is closer. Both of those watches are more wearable for a variety of wrist sizes than the U1. Putting the U1 style in a 104 sized case was a slick move by Sinn IMO.

Love my DA46 and the ICE hardend steel bracelet I got from you. It really makes the watch! (finally took off the bracelet to try a quick release Bond style NATO strap which is awesome....but not compared to the steel 😉 ) That's what's a little confusing for me because Damasko's leather strap and the bracelet are amazing. The rubber and stamped clasp-sans dive extension--seems unfathomable??
Does this mean the steel under the Damast coating is not their usual "ICE-hardend" steel?? I think you've said on another video that they haven't figured out how to do that yet for the bracelet....

I'm a big Damasko fan. Given their engineering prowess, I can't understand why they would pay so little attention to the strap and clasp. It's a big part of the wearing experience, in my opinion. I love almost every Sinn, Damaskos are pretty much all turds IMO.. Other than being German and both specializing in "tool style" watches, I see almost zero similarities... 🤷
Sinn seems like very fine, well finished, high precision tools/instuments...
Damasko feelslike the Harbor Freight knockoff version of the same tools... Yeah they look kinda similar to the untrained eye, but the fit and finish and attention to detail is night and day to a well trained eye.

@@toadamine i have 2 watches each of both brands. When it comes to quality impression and finish, you can’t tell them apart. Not to mention that Damasko made some cases for Sinn in the past - how could these have been inferior?
It must be said that the Damasko case and bracelet is even more scratch resistant than at Sinn. I already have a small scratch on my 10 months old U50 bracelet while my approx 7 years old damasko bracelet, one of their first ones, is still without scratches even while worn often.
Damasko’s DC8x chronos are also cool central minute chronos in a relatively slender case. While the reissue of Sinn’s EZM1 used a module (Minerva not being available anymore-)and is thus a lot thicker.

Ceramic bearings have been a marketing point in knives for awhile and now watch bezels. I prefer ball bearings made from 52100. Although the high speed, torque, load and high temp of the bezel may cause things like fretting, brinelling, etc...
