Damasko DC80 Automatic Chronograph - Center Minutes and Seconds

  • Опубликовано: 7 янв 2019
  • Only a powerhouse watchmaker like Damasko can modify the trusty Valjoux 7750 to have a center minutes counter. Following numerous patents, the DC80 is powered by the Damasko C51-1 movement. This innovative chrono features no conventional subdials. Instead, the elapsed minutes are read via a large minute hand that revolves once every 60 minutes when the chronograph is active.
Come and check it out! www.longisland...

That is a fascinating watch. Before you showed the overlapping hands I thought “Why would anyone make a seconds only chronograph?” The perfect alignment of the chrono seconds and minutes hands is a nice surprise when it starts running.

@@colin7932 If you contact LIW or other US retailers, they might accommodate your request. I spotted a modded DC80 on the WUS Damasko forum. Had a blue minute counter and a black damest bezel. One of the other retailers quoted me a price if I wanted the same price. Would take about 6 weeks to arrive from Damasko.

You mentioned the price and that some might be turned off by what Damasko is asking for. I'm quite sure that you understand, but I'll reassure your viewers that this watch is actually a tremendous value when compared to other brands with similar features. The obvious watch that it compares to is the Sinn EZM 1.1. And while that is a great watch in its own right, the Damasko value becomes much more obvious when the two are stacked against each other. You can say that the Damasko movement is much more interesting, the case hardening much better, the size more wearable, and the price much more attainable. Some will argue that the case shape and dial on the Sinn are better, but aesthetics are a personal thing.
I love this watch, and while the green model doesn't do it for me (although it looks great in your video on wrist), I will get one down the road, most likely a blacked out Damest model, or the very cool two tone version, which I hope to see LIW selling sometime soon.
Mark's review was excellent. Seeing that chrono action, especially when the minute changes, was very cool. I also like that I got to see how it wears on my very similarly sized wrist. It's funny how you notice how others wear watches. I tend to slide the watch up towards my elbow. I don't like when the crown stabs into the back of my hand.

Comment on Damasko quality: Got my DA46 at the time when Brexit was announced. Bought it from Page and Cooper at very good exchange rate right at the lowest point for GBP. Since that time it has been with me through everything - aerobatic flights on small planes, doing many outdoor activities around New Zealand (Tongariro Crossing, Mt Taranaki walks etc.) and of source the tough day-to-days at the office. I can tell you one thing though - if you are to get it, then get it without the top anti-reflective coating. Top coating will get scratched. To me the difference in appearance and readability is insignificant, but having scratches on the crystal won't make you happy. Overall watch scored amazingly well for elabore movement. Right now it loses circa 1 minute per week, which is ok taken in consideration the amount of beeting it has been subjected to...

Very interesting watch to modify Valjoux 7750 to be like that. As you said, it is much easier to read (chrono) and it is something different than many other 7750 movement watches. However, the price tag is bit tough to accept for new brand like Damasko.

I think it’s really cool Damasko rejiggered the old ‘7750 as a central minute counter chrono. Now for some 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon separation:
Nomos Tangente > Tissell 38mm Bauhaus Design 9015 auto (no small seconds, but everything else looks crazy close.)
    And the A-13A Pilot Watch ( a-13a.com ) also adds a central minute/seconds counter chrono to a wrist-sized A-13 recreation (albeit quartz)

Nice Damasko, but very nice Squale you keep flaunting. Just a tad out of my price range to justify purchasing, as I would end up wearing it at work, much the same as all my other watches. No safe queens here at my estate. I do forsee another Seiko in the near future, though; no one can seem to hold a light (no pun intended) to the Superlumanova on my Seiko. My SKX is the benchmark for all my watches. I wish my new Karlskrona would at least match my SKX. If Seiko would only update their movement to hand wind and hack in their SKX models, I'd probably only have an assortment or SKX colors in my wardrobe. (Still sad that they won't bring back the SKXA35.)

It’s a lot like the Sinn EZM. From what I can gather, the Sinn functions in the exact same way, including the way it advances the minute accumulator. Heck, the mission timer hand even looks the same (little airplane-looking hand.) I have to say, although this watch looks nice, Sinn does it better.
