      But why do you need a 60 minute timer, when you have a 60 minute bezel (countdown or diver)... also watch hands already count hours. lol
      I have been trying to find reasons to buy a chrono, but its just not meshing for me. IF I HAVE TO TIME SOMETHING PRECISELY BECAUSE ITS "IMPORTANT" I'LL USE MY PHONE. If I just want to have fun, I'm using a bezel?

  • @drewbrown9678
    @drewbrown9678 4 года назад +13

    Hey Mark, you can use the bezel on the running hour hand. This makes the chronograph a 12 hour.

    Love the DC80! So glad a central-seconds chrono is still being produced. RIP Lemania 5100. --sniff--. Thankfully, the ETA 251.264 movement is still around with the same functionality.

  • @maxprivus

    This is probably the most reasonably priced central minutes chrono available - they tend to be pricey. I'm not even sure anyone else is making one currently. AFAIK the movement is a based on a heavily redesigned and modified Valjoux 77XX - and not just a component, Damasko's getting credit for the movement due to the extent of changes made. Nice to see them pushing the envelope & getting the attention they deserve.

      A running seconds hand would be nice, though. I don't know how they would do it without adding a sub-dial and that's probably what they were trying to stay away from.

    Maybe I missed it in the video but why are the bezel numbers reversed? Guess it's supposed to act as a 60 minute countdown bezel? Sort of defeats the "minutes easy to read" part if you want to use it like a normal chrono.

    Mark thank you for this detailed explanation. I have two questions: 1. Why is the bezel bi-directional? (How is it to be used or what is the purpose) and 2. Does the chrono function use more of the watches potential energy? (As in if you left the stopwatch running all day)

      @MitchRiedstra 4 года назад

      Essentially the "hacking" stops the movement, where non hacking movements keep ticking away, hour hands too, it's just that the second hand is the most obvious sign that the movement has stopped. ( Unless you have an unusual watch with 1/6ths, 1/8ths or 1/10ths of a second sub dials that hacks )

  • @Vigilance2000
    @Vigilance2000 4 года назад +2

    Disagree with your opinion that this is an in-house movement. In-house? No. A very heavily modified 7750 movement? Yes. Even though it's heavily modified and Damasko has a few patents on the modifications they made, that's not enough to qualify it as in-house at least by my personal definition. Not looking to get into a “what’s considered in-house” debate, but my personal definition of in-house is a bit strict: An original, unique, and exclusive movement developed completely from the ground up, which this movement is not.

    • @splodinjoe
      @splodinjoe 4 года назад

      Agreed. I love Damasko and own one but I'm not sure I'd call this in house. Even their fully "in house" movement in the DK10 is based on the layout of the 7750. Escape wheel is in the exact same place.

    • @Vigilance2000
      @Vigilance2000 4 года назад

      Right, same concept with their A35 movement, it’s also based on the 7750, albeit heavily modified. Describing it as “in house” is pretty deceptive IMO, they should definitely mention that it’s based on the 7750.

Now you can track how many minutes left to full hour since chrono was started. Just asking, great looking watch!

    1. Yep it would have been cool if they’d lumed the plane and made it go sideways around the dial.
    2. Nobody needs 120 clicks. Germans know this.
    3. Subdials junk up the face. You easily and accurately can time up to 24 hours with this watch. (Yes, you do need to remember in your head whether 12 or 24 hours have elapsed. That’s not asking too much. All Germans can do it.)
    4. If you want running seconds, just start the chrono. It won’t overtax the power reserve if you’re wearing the watch.
