    nice to see the hobby advancing, but it amazes me how heated some get over DJI vs Shark Byte. Interested to see how this progresses in the coming year. Like you said, these are just toys that help us have fun and escape from the daily drama....no need to bring drama into the hobby. Thanks for the "Family Friendly" channel!

    The fact that Shark Byte could be mounted in a whoop is quite a game changer and with combination of using "already had" goggle to most of people giving more added value. I guess it's true that this could be Beginning of the End of Analog :)

    I am extremely happy with the system. The price point is great for those with a significant investment in analog. Like you I bought the HDO2 with the expectation of using it with the Shark byte system. No real complaints.

    Gotta be honest Nick, I'm not too sure about this. When I first started seeing footage of it, I was really impressed initially. But the more footage I see, the less impressed I am. It does look better than anolog, but honestly not by that much. It seems to do better indoors than outside, likely the camera. I know, I know, I need to see it in the goggles to really get a feel for it. But in all fairness, that's not needed for the DJI footage that's out there, it all looks good, goggles or youtube. I do like that we're getting away from analog though, and I think this is a great option for whoop and toothpick pilots. For larger quads or a more polished experience, well, we know what folks should get for that, lol ;)

      Hey brother💪💪👊👊 I think same line of thought. But never had fataharks..Box to DJI for me. But when used analog adapter on DJI I personally thought this isn't bad... allot better than box. So for cost.. I think great option looks like can see scraggle? If so then that's big.. tree cruises are fun! Range check needed ??

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  4 года назад +4

      Sure, I don't think it has that desired GoPro esq look to it and I do think its not as likely to get those flying primarily 5inch quads. I wonder how it would look at 4:3, which could be coming sometime soon....or that is the word on the street. I am hopefull with time we see camera improvements as well as firmware improvements. The tighter "competition" comes the tougher the decision but better for everyone using one system or another.

    • @badipaddress
      @badipaddress 4 года назад +1

      Totally agree. I was initially impressed, some footages are really good (some more than others) but... 1) it's better than analog, but no SO MUCH. 2) DJI, from what I saw on YT, is on another planet. Still, it is remarkable that we can have a digital fpv system on a 75mm 2s whoop.

    I've been waiting for this review !! Excellent work Nick, really gave a good look at this product. My opinion is I'll NEVER buy a DJI product, so I'm really excited to see this. Version 1 of this , I'll wait , and see how it's progressing, but I have a lot more respect for Fatshark's efforts to bring digital to us. Before everyone starts bashing me, remember, it's an opinion. You buy what you want, I'll buy what I want. DJI will get along just fine without me. As for the footage, I would have to see it in the goggles, RUclips is just too hard on HD footage.

    90% of my flying will be a King Kong ET115, and the whoop board is the reason I'll go this route. That, and I also have HD3's, and on Social Security, I'm not starting over with DJI. But it's the whoop board that's won me over. Just need to be able to see those branches and power lines better, and Shark Byte seems to do it well enough. Not DJI quality, but half again better than analog. Thanks for the video!

Then, with the same goggles, I can easily fly all my analog whoops. Yay! Plus, I just feel good supporting a company that's contributed massively to this hobby's very existence from the beginning, and supported it and the community for years, in numerous ways. I would like to know more about signal penetration on same mw output compared to analog and dji.
    Because that signal penetration is what keeps me going with DJI.
    Image quality is secondary, and I can imagine when Foxeer makes a Shark Byte cam, that would boost image quality for it through the roof

    • @jackdowns6122
      @jackdowns6122 4 года назад +2

      The reason DJI has such better penetration isnt that the signal magically has less noise, its that the goggles have a self healing telemetry link that can ask for a retransmission of lost bit

    • @bashka_if6525
      @bashka_if6525 4 года назад +2

    • @attackemartin
      @attackemartin 4 года назад +1

      @@jackdowns6122 well that doesn't change the fact that I want to know the signal penetration of Shark Byte.
      No matter how DJI is doing their stuff. I can fly with flyable, non stuttering image, where I would be in snow with analog.
      For me it's just about the performance, I don't quite care which company releases what, it just has to be the best for my usage, since I do that for a living (I'm one of that 1% Nick talked about :D).
      So in short: would love to see some examples or hear insights about overall signal penetration. Better than Analog? Worse?
      I'm open minded about Shark Byte at the moment, so I'm just collecting informations about it :) will test it myself soon(ish)

    • @BmoreVisuals
      @BmoreVisuals 4 года назад +2

      @@attackemartin worse than analog, i used the sharkbyte and rapid fire in the same location and my rapid fire module performed better. The break up from the sharkbyte system gets really bad when you start going behind objects, with analog you can see through the break up ans have a chance to get out of it. Unfortunately with shark byte it freezes and glitches, its a common thumbnail people are using for sharkbyte vids.

As someone who doesn't get many wind-free days and not a big enough house to actually fly in, I personally stick to 3 inch and bigger (at least for now). As in regards to price, I'm kinda torn. I think the price is alright for someone who already owns a decent pair of goggles, however if you do not the price is going to end up similar to DJI as for initial buy, anyway. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. In my current situation (and as someone who already owns DJI and my old goggles are the ev800D's) I am happy I picked DJI. That said, I am looking forward to Orqa's open-source digital FPV system too.

Crazybee v3 fc with integrated Rx, happymodel 1103 8000kv, but I think I want 9000 or even 10000kv motors, AE65 canopy, gemfan 40mm props and of course shark byte. I would need to look at the tune to remember. I think I am running BF4.2. I did have to modify the rubber grommets to bring down the FC a bit and still leave a gap between battery and usb port. Even with the slight improvement this makes to video quality and breakup, I feel it improves our flying confidence exponentially.
    In terms of an investment, it seems like the VRX module is pretty well polished at this price point assuming one already owns a decent pair of analog goggles. The primary focus next would hopefully be camera and VTX improvements (quality/weight/size/costs) assuming FS collaborates with other manufacturers.

    That is actually better than I expected, I'm a DJI user but it sure looks like Fatshark has the whoop market wrapped up.
    It's just a shame they bake the osd into the video, with the DJI it's there when you fly but it's not baked in the recording, I prefer that, I hope they add that as an option as on I think one of Bardwells videos you could still see the osd even though the video signal had gone bad, suggesting that the osd is being baked in on the headset and not at the quad side.

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  4 года назад

    That footage looks really good, which is encouraging because the Shark Byte reviews I've seen so far have been a mixed bag. Can you confirm what others are saying about it looking even better in the googles than the DVR? :)
    Also, when are you going do a proper rip around the backyard so we can get a sense of how the latency affects your flights?

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  4 года назад +1

      I do believe it looks better in the goggles. I think the dvr isn't as good and I think viewing it on a larger device makes it look "less good". I think testing latency with flight we would want inside flight. The precision and action is a much higher degree flying inside. But I am up for that. I might wait until the second unit I pre-ordered comes in, I wouldn't want to be shark byte down. 😄

    I feel like the dji definitely has an edge on image quality (hopefully new cameras And firmwares will help), but the fact that the fatshark digital can fit in a 75mm on the first iteration is pretty encouraging. I'm happy to see an alternative to DJI, and I think the picture quality looks fairly similar to that of the Nebula. The part of the Shark Byte I think should be significantly improved is the snow-like pixelization when the signal gets low. I'd love to see better algorithms for what actually gets output to the display when there is picture data missing. Maybe it doesn't have the processing power to do it, but if data is missing from a certain pixel, why not take the data from adjacent pixels and copy it into the missing portions? Kind of like the video upscaling functionality of a lot of TVs. Or at the very least.... If data is missing, don't have the default pixel color be bright white. Make it black, or dark gray, or any other color that isn't a super bright beacon of failed reception!

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  4 года назад +1

      I would not be surprised if we see a change similar to what your thinking. My understanding is the VRx hardware is final but software is moving forward with changes on both the VRx and VTx.

  • @xItzEpicDx

    I'm just curious How different is it from traditional analog in person? RUclips tends to degrade the original quality and in most videos I have seen, it looks like Analog but with a digital pixel block break up instead of the old VCR Player static tv breakup. I cant see much increase in the visual details. DJI hit the market and there was a very clear difference in video strength and quality. And im not sure if such a defined difference ruined "Digital FPV" by being such a dramatic difference so quickly. Is the performance and quality worth the price of changing an analog fleet to Shark Byte? Is it different enough from analog?
    I added DJI to my FPV fleet last year and have built some small HD Drones under 250g AUW and its been a blast, i still have a few whoops like my Mobula 6 (picked up the mob6 because of your review, thank you) and Tinyhawk I can fly on the DJI system with my analog mod, and spectate my friends who fly analog at the field too and its been a well rounded experience. We have a field we fly at locally that is a great fun place to fly, but the video interference is just terrible, its so bad im not sure why we fly there haha, and the first time i flew there with the DJI system, i didnt even have a single Hiccup and didn't drop below 40mbps on the 50mb mode. I was blown away.
    anyways, please let me know what the difference was like in person through your eyeballs!

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  3 года назад

      The difference from analog to SB is very apparent in the goggles, its not as dramatic as analog to dji. I don't know if its the image or the latency, I feel more "connected" to the quad and its flight. I think the image will become more crisp as camera vendors understand the capability of the transmission system.
