    Love it Bruce as usual, however
    1. The unit goes into 25mw mode when the craft isn't armed and has a protection circuit as well
    2. On RCG some in the community are trying to get the OSD to work with other things and Divimath is also trying to reach out.
    3. If you would like a 200mw whoop board I can probably get you one

    Btw Caddx Vista with Nebula Nano (which seems about equivalent to this camera) is 24.9g with a TrueRC Singularity. Naked one is 13.4g total which is about a gram(?) heavier than this. Roughly 1.2g more with "naked" DJI camera or about 5g more with full DJI camera. I don't think anyone buys the original Air Units anymore 😄
    My 75mm 2s digiwhoop is 38.6g dry, runs perfectly fine for 4 minutes on 300mAh 2S (19.5g) or 5 minutes on 450mAh 2S packs (28.5g). My 3" digipick is 59g dry and runs 4.5 min on 300mAh 3S (28g) to 6min on 450mAh 3S (42g) or even the same 450mAh 2S I use on digiwhoop for some more relaxed cruising (I've gone up to 8 min on that). So yeah, you don't need this overpriced crap for small light crafts 🙂

    If the firmware was opened sourced as you suggest, that would make things really interesting indeed. I think the noise / breakup could be made a lot less noticeable / distracting at the expense of a using a little more bandwidth. Price is the biggest issue with SharkByte for me, as other people have commented.

    Hello, When you are going to test it out in the fields, please do a head-to-head comparison against a good _analog_ system. (Behind trees, in high multipath environment etc, where analog typically weak.) I think this product shouldn't be compared to DJI (we already know DJI is much better everywhere). I'm interested in if it's worth the price to invest, to get a better link then my analog, and below the price of a DJI.

    • @DanWA
      @DanWA 3 года назад +1

      there is a video somewhere of someone doing a test between the sharkbyte and DJI, the DJI out preformed it in penetration ability but it could be down to the antenna choice.

    • @FilipRadelic
      @FilipRadelic 3 года назад +3

      With Shark Byte system costing about the same if not more than a Vista Kit per quad, you would only need to sell your analog goggles for 529-250=279 (price of DJI goggles minus price of Shark Byte video receiver thingie) to break even when going for DJI instead. I think math is pretty clear there if you have HDO or better... 🙂 Kinda annoyed when people say Shark Byte is cheaper than DJI when it's really the same for a few quads and becomes more expensive for large fleets if you go with DJI radio and use the free built-in RX on Air Units/Vistas.

    • @danielnagy5721
      @danielnagy5721 3 года назад +1

      @@FilipRadelic That might be true. Another interesting factor is, what DJI is cooking. From _marketing point of view_, a DJI 2 or something would not be a surprise in this market situation, which would turn the whole thing upside down, I think.

    I just installed a Shark Byte system on a 3" toothpick with the whoop board and the Foxeer Digisight V2 camera. For my needs - proximity freestyle flying (-1km) its perfect. With OLED goggles the video and DVR is recognizably a step above RapidFire analog.

And on another thought I could (Theoretically) switch between my regular analog units and the Digi with just a flick of a switch on the goggles. REALLY looking to getting one for my future whoop class drones....and others likely too. Glue some heat sinks to them little amps for double cooling I thinking or similar. 🤘😁

    • @changeagent228
      @changeagent228 3 года назад +1

      @S Grim Yes Fatshark don't own the codec so DJI would only have to ask HDzero and go over their heads to support it. 😄 That said it would be easier and make more sense to stick with their own hardware and release a fixed latency racing mode that didn't reject damaged frames. 😀

    • @changeagent228
      @changeagent228 3 года назад

      @S Grim Yes I suggested that to another user to try a while back but the issue with spectator mode is the length of the distortions as they can corrupt subsequent frames and cover large portions of the view. What DJI need to do is use a slightly different codec and confine distortions to individual frames.

    I have the gutfeeling that this is more suited for FPV-flight as it is closer to the analogue low-contrast picture as the almost GoPro-like DJI HD system. The latter is more close to an HD-stream that you suppose to receive from a camera for editing and publishing. While the SharkByte would enable FPV flight in a more challengine scenario (great contrast, trees and bushes, electric wires and other obstacles that might be difficult to see on DJI).
    Just a gut feeling based on RUclips videos, since I haven't tried any of the two. I fly analogue and am a newbie.

    Try getting your hands on a ground rc vehicle, and mount the fpv setup on that to review how it performs so close to the ground. From my understanding (though there has not been many test of that either) the DJI digital system works poorly so close the the ground, when used on ground vehicles. I find it a bit fun to explore the world (woods around me, and even my garden), from such a low perspective.

    Even if software goes opensource, i don't think there's much to improve in terms of video quality and signal reception. I'm pretty sure the video processing algorithm is locked in asic, and all you can improve is OSD and channel switching.
    Opensource hardware on the other hand, where eachine/rush/iflight and likes of it could pick up the chips and build their own boards with their own rf part. That'd be cool.

    What would I like to see?
    How it fits / flies on ever smaller craft at 25mW (UK limit). I am sub-250 exclusively (the writing was on the wall when starting this 3 years ago), from 4" AUW 195g down to 2" AUW 80g, not including tinywhoop sized ones. These all have very small and light analogue transmitters and cameras. It seems likely to me that whilst digital quality is nice (ignoring cost), the downside in performance / flight time due to weight would outweigh it.
    I also think latency is - for me - absolutely key. I had some experience in changing latency on a simulator, and increases definitely affected my performance, even though I couldn't really feel it.

    So I know im a day late (err more like 36-something days late) and a dollar short (plus interest...) But...
    You mention that the unshielded VTx can cause interference with other RF systems... While not *specifically* related to shark byte, I would love to see methods of reducing that interference, beyond the normal "keep things apart".
    I have an AXN (thanks to your videos actually) that I'm putting together to run ardupilot. I'm not far from the maiden (with the FC, I've flown it LOS already) and cramming everything in there while "keeping things apart" is... Uhh... Yeah it's not happening. A way to shield things like spurious emissions from the VTx, the telemetry radio, etc. Especially from the GPS or Rx would be great to know. Not too keep on wrapping boards in aluminum foil so yeaaaaaaa....
    Doubtful you'll notice this comment but hell, worth a shot. Might even cross post to a more recent video of yours! You're a wealth of knowledge and believe it or not i first heard of you long before YT. It was a forum/site where you discussed early (relative to today) tech for a homemade LCCM. • @FilipRadelic
    @FilipRadelic 3 года назад

    I would like you to do some math in one of the videos on how cost effecting this really is for your average FPV pilot with a few crafts if they only need to sell your HDO2s for $279 to get the DJI system at this same price. For new pilots I hope it's pretty clear to everyone that DJI is cheaper than this.
    Now some people might say you maybe you want to keep some crafts analog. No, no you don't. Proper digital ruins analog for you. Unless you're a racer then you'll still just stay on top end analog for now because it has less abrupt breakup even if there's more of it.

  • @bitogre
    @bitogre 3 года назад

    I would like to see a comparison of how it works on a plane. I am pretty sure you can come up with a plane where you can put both this and the DJI on the same plane for a side-by-side in-flight comparison. Theoretically, the same craft could handle analog as well.

    • @bitogre

      @@EnglishTurbines Are you talking about Clashing with RF interference? If so, I think they should not do that and, if they did, that would also be good to know: the fact that you cannot have the different systems running at the same time in close proximity.

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines 3 года назад +1

      @@bitogre There's close proximity, and then there's 3 systems on a single plane. Which is not the same thing at all.

    • @bitogre
      @bitogre 3 года назад

      @@EnglishTurbines I assume you are referring to the Inverse-Square Law (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverse-square_law). That really only applies if the device on the aircraft is a Transceiver and not a Transmit only device AND if they are all operating on the same band. If they are on different bands or all Transmit only devices, then that should not be an issue.
      Also, in a race situation, racing quads get awfully close to each other. It is surprising the number of mid-air collisions during a quad race. So it might not be that far off and a plane does provide the room to space out the antennas.
      The big advantage of putting them all on one plane at the same time is it provides the best side-by-side comparison as it allows for a split-screen with the cameras getting the same image with identical lighting and with as close as possible angles.

As i have not a lot of money, i have slowly progressed to having Fatshark Dom 3vs i bought them when they come out because they had hdmi in and that was my limit of cost, me being into quality ( always had full frame cameras
    Now got a 4k tv and i only like 16x9 !! Now!! Yes i would by DJI tomorrow but at that price No,So this option is ideal for me because at the moment my True d module is on its last legs so if i can by this system for , say ,£275.00 uk thats me sorted!!.
    Anyway as you can have a good look at the board, to see if there are any failings, are what you think they might improve on in the future ie dissipation of heat, the components they use , and do you think they could make it any smaller, ( i know they have the 20x20 board,)

    Please can you demonstrate how the system only works properly with a 16:9 hdmi input, and not ANY hdmi input like they claim. This system works terrible with HDO1 or anything other than HDO2 imo. If you could discover why on earth they are sending a 16:9 video and cropping the sides off for 4:3 rather than the other way round, it would be interesting. For me as a racer, the system is totally useless without 4:3 and good FoV, this has the worst FoV ever, I suspect it is because if there was more detail for the system to display it would look worse than a lot of analogue feeds, so they cropped the image in significantly to give it a small chance of looking better than analogue. It is so obviously still AHD.

      PS.... I will send you my ByteFrost system if you had a use for it. From what I see it is identical to this 'new' system, just different packaging and a 'mipi' cable

      @@Bludz If send out 4:3 without chopping off the sides, the vertical won't be the original 720. Is it acceptable?

      @@TheCarl1206 I tried to tell you how to improve the system over a year ago when I 'beta' tested (4:3 sent from camera, ribbon cable for the 2 board design not pins, M3 mounting not M2 and many other suggestions), and all have been ignored.
      Make the original transmission 4:3 900px vertical (to match the goggles you have designed them around!), then crop to 16:9 720, the camera you use has 4:3 sensor after all, so maybe use all of it and get some usable FoV.

    i'd be interested if you can get rid of the purple fringing of the camera by changing the lens. In my eyes, the image this camera is producing is, lets say, not very good.... Way to contrasty in sky and stuff up close has horror purple fringing bands....
