Great flying Bruce and review. I've had so many people ask me my thoughts on this camera and we've never tried one. So good there is a great review on it. Also loved the last song 😍
It's really cool that there is a 10 g action cam. You hardly don't lose any freestyle performance and you can still record relatively good video with analogue FPV.
Hi Bruce I just purchased a RunCam Orange 5 and the Thumb. I just love flying with them. Finally I don't have to use my googles for video. The only issue with it is the filters I ended up hitting a limb and losing it in the grass. Thanks for the video and information about the RunCam Thumb.
THIS IS A GREAT REVIEW, little late, lol, BUT A+. I would like to add that i had mine on my shadow fiend and ended up in the top of a very tall old oak tree, i could hear it till the battery died, but couldnt see it. i checked for it every week or so, then one really windy day 5 weeks later i found it on the ground, it all still works perfectly, even the 4s tattu battery after jump starting it. the point it, i live in NE Ohio and it rained hard several days during that time. the screw heads where all rusty on the quad and it was covered with bird poo, but every thing survived just dandy. since then , i had a bad crash and broke a arm (frame unavailable) and ripped off my tpu mount. the lens the nv filter was destroyed but that said camera was fine. wish they would put a capacitor circuit in that completes the video file automatedly though on power loss. my sadow fiend has jhemcu 600mw, led beeper, and 3d printed mods, i love it with this cam, got the thumb pro preordered, arrived doa after waiting over a month last week. still waiting to find out if runcam is sending a replacement....
Okay I'm surprised that it's working with 1S Lipo. I purchased some tiny DC to DC step up 3v to 5v regulator and I get a solid 30 minute recording out of it.
Doesn't the ND filter of the HD fit to the 4K ? I guess not- but why ? The camera will suffer the most therefore the prices for used dji cameras of previous and eol systems are pretty high at least for the good ones. Our DJI racing goggles , the big red ones therefore brought a pretty good price for the whole air unit and goggles cause many tend to stay with their systems and try to fix them over and over again by replacing parts from a dead one or replacing the old one with a used replacement goggle.

Great footage sample of it´s device ! Thank you for share ! Right choice for beguinner pilots like me !
7:36 cool shot of the emergency responder hitting that bump. The image of this camera may not be great, but if you film interesting stuff it will produce footage worth watching
I might have to get this. I've had several Runcam2's for around $90 that died in crashes along with a couple gopro sessions. This looks cheap enough for me....
Good review and nice to see you flying around in the parks and playgrounds. But I don't recommend this cam. Better spend a little extra and get the ThumbPro. Why? Because the pro has decent support for gyroflow - the 50$ one is NOT useable with gyroflow (it works but looks ugly wobbly, because their gyro data sucks). The thumb pro in 4k also doesnt look too good, but in 2.7k60 it's halfway decent - and the stabilization works fine. I guess these little 2pin connectors shouldnt bee hard to source. maybe from old analog cams (their joystick boards)... now I will try to finish my TumbPro review ;) greets, Mario
Your flying is very good. I assume the shakiness comes from your center stick sensitivity, turn it down a little till the graph looks a bit flat then being too linear
I have one too, but haven’t tested it yet. I see a lot of reviews from people complaining about a very shaky footage with lots of vibrations, even with a ND filter. You didn’t experience this problem? By the way, are you going to test Gyroflow with the Thumb?
I’m not sure if the thumb has the gyro recording, but I know that the pro does, probably why it’s close to about 3 times the price with the nd filters.
How did you linearize the footage so it is less warped? That warp is the main reason I am hesitant to buy the camera, but if there is an easy way to change it, please let me know.
Does anyone know if it uses an ARM processor? If it does, it may be a coincidence that it's called "Thumb" and also be thumb-sized because many are also programmed using the thumb-instruction-set.
I just ordered this camera but did not realize it does not have a built in battery. To me $50 is still kinda high for what this is. I wanted to use this on rc planes but without power I'm not sure I can. I'll probably be returning this. Thank you Amazon....
How would this work as a body cam! I need about 2 hours in the morning and another 2 hours worth in the evening as I walk to church Glasgow’s a dangerous place ! Would I need a hater pack of sorts or connect plug in to my smart phone
Great and honest review as always! What software and settings did you use for getting rid of the floppy left and right in the recording you mentioned? Maybe the settings you used?
Nice - I have a Question but first I bought one and have not used it yet and now I see they have a 4K version. I am happy with your HD footage - good enough for me. How do I figure out how much runtime my runcam will run when hooked to a 2s or 1s battery - I know it depends on the capacity but what is the formula? Thanks for posting this review.
I forgot to add I connected a 5V regulator so I am probably stuck running a 2S battery only to my camera - did you need to attach a regulator to allow a 1S battery - sorry for the extra questions.
I was just looking at that camera a couple nights ago. I was wondering about the video quality. Looks pretty good for the $$$. That is a great idea with putting that 1s battery on it so you can use it on basically any quad or plane. Do you think Ron or Bill would use one of these. Thanks for the review. I think I’ll get one of these instead of a Insta360 GO2. A lot cheaper. 👍👍👍
Hello, cool, I subbed, but I need a question please I need an answer, I want to buy this camera but I'm not sure can I power it with 1s battery because it says it's power input is 5 volts and 1s battery is only 3.7 volts.... I really want to make sure is it possible to run the battery and fly the drone at same time with 1s battery?
I have the same Runcam Thumb HD and yes, you can run it with a 1S at fully charged. Just be aware that once the voltage goes below 3.9V, the recorded audio and gyro data kind of go wonky but otherwise the video footage looks fine to me.
I use a #45 key cam great clear HD video and is light and can be mounted on just about anything . Cheap cost is in the 35-40+ dollar realm does what is needed when needed> And as it appears the FAA will soon go after anyone posting anything as Google, You Tube and others are doing the same, unless you are willing to pay or get a Part 107 commercial license etc etc. Just make you own vids for friends and family keep them private/unlisted and give links to whom you know you can trust to watch them etc...and enjoy, Why spend big $$ for anything else now days?
You taped yours, and it still fell off. That captures one rather annoying law of nature not yet fully understood: some minor issues simply refuse to get resolved. Thanks for an eminently useful review!
For a second/third or even fourth lead, just get a few 2 wire micro jst connector, you’ll get a power lead for the camera. Pity that they didn’t send you the filter kits for the thumb cam pro, because it looks like it would do a great job with the videos that you could make. Also, unfortunately I got one of those stupid ads that had that fake drone that they say used to cost $7000, but you can now get for $139, I just laughed, because the first drone they show is probably worth the $7000 they talk about, then they show this cheap plastic thing that probably gives more jello than Joe Biden has in a year lol.
Great flying Bruce and review. I've had so many people ask me my thoughts on this camera and we've never tried one. So good there is a great review on it. Also loved the last song 😍
Thank you Bruce you are a true asset to the community
It's really cool that there is a 10 g action cam. You hardly don't lose any freestyle performance and you can still record relatively good video with analogue FPV.
😂 "I don't use gyroflow, I fly so smooth . . " Thanks for the great video, my Thumb 4k is in the post !
Nice Review Bruce... Mine is in the mail coming to Canada as we speak...
P.S love the shirt. And for the power led, I just use the cord that changes the settings that come with my cameras and I have two plugs. Happy flying
Another great video Bruce, an inspiration to us all
The jello is purely down to the shutter speed Vs frame rate Vs prop speed. ND allows slower shutter speed selections which dodges the issue.
Thanks Bruce - I like the price of the thumb, too! - like others, I am also curious to know what you used for your 'quick n dirty' colour grading.
The back fell off? You should tow it outside the environment.
At least it’s not one where the front falls off.
Might as well, there's nothing out there but, birds, fish and the sea.
i want to buy one to make 3rd person drone videos and fix it somewhere at the back on a stick or something

Thanks Bruce. I believe there is a niche for this cam being cheap and dirty. Perhaps fitted to a racing quad for crazy, fast flying. Cheers!
Great T shirt and video, Thymbs up !
Great honest review Bruce. Curious what you used to do the lens distortion correction?
cool.... thanks for the review..... i just bought it... to build my quad too..

I got one recently and i love it!
Fantastic flying and review, Bruce! 😃
Looking forward to see your review of the Pro version!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

No affiliate link? Love your videos Bruce, always a fan...
Hey, this is cool. I was wandering if it would work with 1s on my runcam thumb pro 4k too. How do you prevent deep discharge?
Your flying is fine, shaky shmaky..pfft. That cam is definitely going on my wish list now.
Genuine reviews should get genuine support from the manufacturers. Come on Runcam, send Bruce some free product for review.
Hi, i fitted this to my Max Thrust Ruckus but found the play back was was jumpy and not stable . How did you make adjustments ?
I have one too, but haven’t tested it yet. I see a lot of reviews from people complaining about a very shaky footage with lots of vibrations, even with a ND filter. You didn’t experience this problem?

enjoyed the video Bruce :) thanks for sharing!
the camera I enjoyed a little less but for that price it does do pretty good :)
How did you linearize the footage so it is less warped? That warp is the main reason I am hesitant to buy the camera, but if there is an easy way to change it, please let me know.
I have a few videos on this - Gyroflow, flight footage, and a warning.. I have to admit I like inexpensive stuff Bruce, Lol..
Enjoy the Breeze...👍🏻🍻👊🏻
Does anyone know if it uses an ARM processor?
If it does, it may be a coincidence that it's called "Thumb" and also be thumb-sized because many are also programmed using the thumb-instruction-set.
5:23 how can this fella be wearing just a t-shirt in August in Tokoroa....
What's up Bruce, if I may ask, how did you make the video linear... Nice review...
What is the cable with conector called ?
Just a thought it could also be used as a car dash cam 🤔
You could probably salvage batteries from disposable vapes to run that camera.
awesome little cam and hey, your shaky flying is better than my no flying :/
I just ordered this camera but did not realize it does not have a built in battery. To me $50 is still kinda high for what this is. I wanted to use this on rc planes but without power I'm not sure I can. I'll probably be returning this. Thank you Amazon....
nice. been trying to get the best video out of my thumb also.
do you have any videos on color grading? or what you do to make your videos look better?
How would this work as a body cam! I need about 2 hours in the morning and another 2 hours worth in the evening as I walk to church Glasgow’s a dangerous place ! Would I need a hater pack of sorts or connect plug in to my smart phone
Noob question, What's an ND filer and what does it do?
How did you change the lens distortion? Thanks!
Thanks for sharing.
What is the drone you are using?
Not bad at all, maybe I'll get the v2 since it promises better quality.
Great and honest review as always!
What software and settings did you use for getting rid of the floppy left and right in the recording you mentioned?
Maybe the settings you used?
I bought two of them, liking them very much. And it's only 50 bucks 😁
Can you tell me the wire connection?

Looks a lot better than my Yuneek CGO3+. But that's 10 years old.

Linear lense ? How ?
Nice... Thanks Mate
thumb has QR codes in their app to change settings.
The pro version is really good
You taped yours, and it still fell off. That captures one rather annoying law of nature not yet fully understood: some minor issues simply refuse to get resolved. Thanks for an eminently useful review!
Through the wires SIDEWAYS!
I did buy one of these, the distortion in the image around the edges is woeful, hate the bastard thing.
A landing is a landing.

You are very obviously being too modest about your flying abilities.
ThumbCam gives a new perspective on a Yak-130

I'd cry if i lost 50$ 😭
Yep over saturated with the mix
Lmao 🤣
How did you remove the fisheye and color grade? What app? Thank you
How do you edit away the distortion?
