I thought I was losing my mind trying to get this working. I'd load the video and gyro data into GyroFlow and the Auto Sync wouldn't even be clickable. The one time it was (probably through some wild coincidence), nothing at all changed when I did it. I have updated to the new firmware, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. Thanks for video!
This is certainly great news! Already testing - seems to actually work now! :D About the resolution - yes it would be better if it was higher, but it still has potential as is. I also have a Go2 and I'm quite disappointed by the results because of the lens - the fisheye may produce a wider FOV, but it certainly constrains the usable portion of the image, regardless of the higher resolution. In this regard Thumb got my interest, but it has it's shortcomings. It looks like someone needs to produce something in between the two. :)
Hi Lee Great video and review of the RunCam Thumb update. I really want to order one. As you know I love flying micros. And cameras are not easy to fit on them. But purchasing a GoPro is not in my budget. And to decase it is not a good idea for me, I still crash a lot. Thanks for the video and information.
Do you feel the thumb could be reliably used as a gyro logger? Slap on beside other non stabilized bigger cameras for gyro stabilization? It basically has 0 cost in weight when considering this application. I currently use an open lager but there are some downfalls to that especially trying to sync an entire days worth of footage.
I'm still not convinced that the gyro is working well enou for that. New 4k version is coming soon, I hope they improved the gyro so it can be used for stabilisation reliability... Happy flying
Hi, Great video which swayed me to purchasing one of these for my Geprc Cinepro 4K. Please can you tell me the type of crimp for connecting silicone wire to the DC5V and GND connector. The JST SH1.0mm crimped wire doesn't seem to fit. There are so many different types of JST, or is it even a different type all together. Thank you
I have a thumb. And getting there with it. What I have not been able to do is use the gyroflow well. I'm relatively new to all video stuff (editting etc, getting used to davinci). Would you be able to do a deeper dive on how to use gyroflow ESP with the thumb? I tried it a few weeks ago and didn't have much luck. In quite technical but struggle understanding it. Your videos are great
Hey, would you mind looking at your sync in gyroflow again? The timeline showed the optical flow completed but there were no yellow sync points. That just means gyroflow gave up on trying to find the sync. Turn the sync search size from 5 seconds down to 1 or 0.5s so it will lock and set those yellow offset markers. 100% better when you do that.
@@Painless360 Agreed. FYI, when runcam responded to my ticket about the bad gyro data, they responded with the new firmware but also they recommended to set the Low pass filter to 43Hz. I think they did a bunch of internal testing.
Did you mention why you have to use 50fps for gyro data to work? Is that just a data throughout or computation limitation of the hardware? That might not throw off pal people but between all the other little issues it's probably the thing that pushed me over to the do not buy side. But I'm only saying this as someone who's never really edited a video but was willing to for this cam. Is this something that I wouldn't even notice after gyroflow? I know gyroflow can change resolution, can it also change frame rates in way that isn't noticable?
Not sure on the exact technical reasons why it needs to be 50fps for the gyro data but the things you mention will be a factor. I hope they continue the Thumb line with other slightly more expensive versions that can do more..
Nice video. I received mine today update firm to v2.1 And used latest gyro software. Setup gyrofile pgm. Did auto sync and can see stabilized and instabilized. However, when I save stabilized file it never actually writes any data to MicroSd card? Any ideas what the cause might be. Sd is an extreme , sandisk.. it records video fine. Thanks Joe
@@Painless360 Thanks for feedback. More research found that the program is known to have issues with different windows versions. @@Painless360 Sorry for the confusion. The problem is when I run gyroflow it will not render on my windows 10 laptop version. When I run gyroflow on my other PC - windows 11 it works fine. For some reason or other when using certain versions of Windows and the latest Gyro Flow, Windows will not Render / save a stabilized video. The camera is working fine.

Thanks a lot! Also, ordered this cam, so your video came on time!
Fantastic! Thanks for the update, Lee! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Nice to see! I ordered one to add to a LR 4" quad. Now just waiting for it to come back to stock!
I ordered one a few days ago off ebay and it's already shipped out on its way from China lol

Thank you for your video and information, thumb is looking like a better and better idea.
Besides resolution, the upgrade I'd really like to see is a video output feature... that could turn the Thumb into the only camera needed in the model

A New firmware ! Nice ! Maybe along with Orca, which hasn't gyro inside.. ?
See the thumb footage by AnikFPV

Do you have the link to the Dropbox runcam thumb download that u posted? I think the gyro in mine may be bad and I require footage from a working cam.
I don't, sorry. Best of luck
Did it get a sd size upgrade?
Awesome video. Curious whats the blue thing you powered it with. Thanks.
If its the thing I think you are referring to, it a 5v BEC...

I will add that to the list - the setup and use of it in GyroFlow is the same as any other camera but I'll make a video on it.. Stay tuned!
Promising! Do you know a way to join clips and maintain gyro data for those long flights over 4gb?
I've not tried that yet. I tend to stabilise pieces one by one... interesting idea!

I'd check the config file is set for 50fps and to save the gyro data and try another SD card in case it is a speed issue. Best of luck!
