I remember a factory(office) tour of hawkeye about 6 years ago, just 5 smart guys and a girl in a small office with colour charts and resolution plots on the wall, some half assembled cams and a soldering station. the kit they had then was pretty good so its great to see them still making products that are unique and seem to do the job. glad they had success.
I bought one that is a naked 30x30 board for $10 less($42.55) and I wish I had gotten the thumb style. I didn't get all the awesome cables, the board is too big, I can't get an ND filter, weighs more too(18.5g), and the camera mount is 19x19 but comes with an adapter(1.5g).
For the price & weight it's amazing. Always bugs me when I attach a camera that costs more than the Kwad I'm strapping it to, and about to do something stupid.
By all means give it a try, but the case is small and I suspect anything you 3D print will end up being heavier. But do let me know if you try. Thanks watching and you comment.
I'm thinking of buying this as a gift. But is it necessary to have a display to set it up? Do I need to buy something else other than the camera (and the stuff it comes with)?
It's a great camera, but you will need either a separate monitor of your FPV goggles to view the setup screen. Either is fine, but a monitor is easier.
If I wanted to power the camera, which battery should I use? I would like to use it to film the flight of a weather balloon, using the camera so lightly
Thanks for the feedback and for watching. Personally, I prefer the Thumb 4K. It's better quality and has held up to a lot of abuse since I reviewed it. I also use it as a 4K webcam.
is there an external way to record gyro and apply that lateron to your footage? how will that affect the quality of the footage? will it go down to 2.5K anyway?
Yes, there are external ways to record gyro data and stabilize your footage later on. Gyro stabilization improves video quality by reducing shakes and jitter. It won't affect the resolution, so your footage will remain in 4K. Just ensure you choose a reliable stabilizer or software for the best results. The gyro data is stored separately on the SD card as well as the video, so you can use that as you want. And yes it does work at 2.5k. It's a great little camera and very cheap.
I received my one from China the other day to go on a fixed wing glider. Superb little camera
You get a lot for your money. Thanks for the feedback and watching.
Great river shots!❤❤
That's a nice flying spot for me and it's local so that's a bonus as well. Thanks for watching.

I totally agree. I've managed to destroy or lose several expensive HD cams over the years.
Good review
Thanks for watching and the feedback. It's always appreciated.
I plugged into my DJI goggles and it didn't work. I want to setup. Can you give me a help please? Thanks in advance
Any chances to reduce the weight even more by printing a custom case and using the camera 'half naked'?

Hi thank you for the video! What's your opinion to buy between this hawkeye thumb 4k or buy the old runcam thumb 1080p?
Thanks for the feedback and for watching. Personally, I prefer the Thumb 4K. It's better quality and has held up to a lot of abuse since I reviewed it. I also use it as a 4K webcam.
@@WhirlyBloke thank you! So i will buy hawkeye thumb 4k! ☺️
Does it have audio?
I see in the menu it is an option. How is the wind noise?
It's ok, but TBH I rarely bother with the audio from any camera on a quad. It's always noisey. Thanks for watching.
This câmera is WATER RESISTANT?
@@filipehenry4340 unfortunately, no.

@@WhirlyBloke do you have a good recommendation for a Gyro module? Maybe one that includes GPS?

No thanks.
