I've never read a book so fast! ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU Learning about his dogs and experiences was just the icing on the cake - bed this book through and through. We're working with our new pup and Brandon's advise was just what I needed. Wish he'd just come and train for me haha but it's good for us and happy to have this new set of tools to use on our pup.

Hey Zak, could you make some videos that are just 20 minutes straight of raw training footage, with you commenting and narrating in post/edit rather than to the camera during training? I feel that just straight watching you work, with your explanations of “here’s what I was thinking at that moment,” would be sooooo helpful!

Training sessions especially for a young puppy shouldn’t really be twenty minutes to be fair. A lot of the time the reason there’s so many different training sessions is because that’s most of the training session they show

Love to see how Biscuits is coming along, thanks for this series on a smaller dog. I've watched all of your videos, some of them more than once...or twice or seven times. 😊I have a medium sized Teenage dog and used frozen sugar free PB on a Kong for her first bath. Worked like a charm. I'll be using it again when it's time for nail clipping. Thanks again Zak for sharing your knowledge with us, it truly helps and thank you to Bree for the excellent angles you get when filming. It's like we're right there with you guys.

This is a great way to teach stay, I used a similar method using a towel to make it easier to dry him off after being outside, now our Lakeland Terrier, Toby, comes in and sits down on the towel without a command and even lifts his paws to dry. No more tug of war and chasing round the kitchen 😂

I am soo glad you mentioned 2 things in this video. One is --yes your dog can do XYZ at home and when people get the dog out into public it does not do it. You went right back to step one to let her know all is OK. The other thing is the bath scene. You made the comment that if something is not working you need to break it down into smaller steps. I am telling my students this all the time. Great video-- glad to see Brea in them more.

It's funny how useful "tricks" are; they do have practical application in life. Need your arthritic senior to comply with a hip exam? Play dead! Need your puppy to show you or your vet an injury, suspected tick, surgical wound, etc? Spin! Paw! Roll over! Need to get your dog on the scale or in the car? Place! Need to put your shoes on without your dog trying to play? Back! In a crowded area and you don't have a ton of space? Middle! Need to bathe your dog but he keeps sitting? Stand!

It's a wet puppy - Ahhh!!!! I sometimes put the warm water right on her back with the hose so there's no gap between the hose and her back. I know she's tiny but maybe a sink tub/dish container like you would bathe a baby in the sink. I always play it up too like, oh you're going to be so pretty and smell so good! Such a smart puppy! Treat in the sink rather than when paws are up trying to escape - if you can.

We end up with the puppy pulling the older dog by his leg or ear ( not hurting him) and a lot of loud yelping and growling. Then they older dogs ends up in the bedroom gated.

I have been watching your videos for a while but I am having a difficult time with my hound mix. She’s about 2 yo and does know some basics like sit, down, and stay for a certain amount of time indoors, as well as some tricks like play dead, paw, touch, whisper and high five. But she does seem to be more “tantrum-ish” as she’s gotten older as she is highly food motivated and is only concentrating on getting a treat instantly and then demands the treat if I wait for her to do something correctly. I feel like hounds are much more likely to be stubborn but I do know it’s not her fault and just mine some step of the way in her training process but she also seems uninterested in tug and fetch during any training or outside.

Hi Zak! I think that using a target to help any kind of obedience in a distracting environment is great. Either to consolidate work done at home or to teach new abilities. I have 2 questions. 1. Why don’t you introduce the target at home first? 2. Why, when you want to increase duration, don’t you use “breaks” to liberate the dog from the target, so that he eventually learns that he cannot leave without you giving him permission. I notice a moment when you talk to the camera that the puppy leaves the target on his own. Is this acceptable behaviour? Or just a little glitch?

Hi Zak George do you have a suggestion for a border Collie that does not like people. My uncle recently came and I thought she would be really good since she really likes my grandma, but apparently she said she got really vicious and she started barking really loudly and whenever she sees him, she starts barking. So I tried to train her and get her kind of used to him. Still, the barking is happening, and also my uncle tried, giving her a treat and trying to let her sniff her. Instead, she bit him and he was bleeding. So do you have any advice to fix this.

So you’re teaching her “place” command. Is there a reason that you didn’t teach any of the other dogs you have trained how to “place”? Not only that but you should be using a place board, this will make training inside the same as training outside. I feel like you’re dancing around the place command as far as just saying out loud that you’re teaching “place”. Why don’t you just call it what it is? More people can search “place” command on RUclips, and find trainers who really have this down to a science.

Yes that video will come. But there is no need to watch it if you know a treat or a toy will just be given out and that’s what makes the dog do it (not the voice command alone) It’s boring and that’s not everyone’s reality, having a pocket of ham and toys at allllllllllllll times.
