I recently adopted a 15 months pup and she reminds me of George a lot. You can't even imagine how helpful your videos are. God bless you. I'm so happy that RUclips introduced you to me. I subscribed to your 30 days training course through pupford and I love it. You are the best. I gave your name to our shelter and they will pass it to new adopters.
I would much rather see issues like this then to see a “perfect” training session. When my dog was a puppy I struggled with similar issues because everything outside was more interesting then me. It would have helped me so much back then to see someone brainstorm through the trouble spots in real time to find creative solutions using positive reinforcement.
This! Distractions are like thorns in your side when training a puppy. My puppy thinks everything is more interesting than me 9 times out of 10 so I just praise and treat like crazy on the rare occasion she actually pays attention to me.
I love how Zak’s “bad” things really aren’t that bad and normal for high energy adult rescue dogs, but it shows how important it is to be on guard with this. My rescue is straight up afraid of and confused by small children. Understands and loves babies …. Once they start moving around….terrified. I’ve also learned that i need a harness with a double connection leash and a traffic handle if we get into a situation that’s over stimulating. Learned this after the first time I had to wrestle her in public. We all think you’re doing great and that you for this series.
People totally dont understand how incredibly SMART And motivated pitties are. They have impulse problems, like most terriers, but if they are given a basic foundation built on trust and consistency; theyre amazing dogs.
Finally, George showed his wilder side. He's been so good he was almost too good. This a bit more like my dogs behave around distractions so it will be great to see how you help George through this.
Zak: OMG this is the worst ever what even is this terrible behavior George: ~is perfect angel but wants to play with balls that don't belong to him~ Zak: ~steals ball~
My pittie also loves to stealing balls. It was hard to make him give up and I was embarrassing. But more and more he understands that if he gives me the balls back, I will play with the way he loves (with his ball). So it has been much easier to have him leave other dogs' balls alone. Also because of that, if other dogs steal his ball, I wouldn't mind much. I will just let their owners take their time to get the ball back.
I dont understand why you wish this was never filmed, yeah it wasnt his greatest video of accomplishments but if dogs are like humans everybody has a hole in them….. nobodies perfect. George seems to be really intelligent and for coming from the streets I think he’s awesome.
My dogs are now 3 years old and 3 years ago we watched a bunch of your videos about cate training and etc and they turned out amazing I just came back to thank you
I am having a rough morning… I’m mourning my pup badly today. Miss him so much. But, the new baby needs me too. Your videos always bring me a sense of calm.
I'm loving these! Different dogs different personality you are showing people that if you put in that effort any doggo can be trained its just amazing!❤
My two year old pit bull mix has trouble with a lot of things like George does with balls, and it's nearly impossible to control him. It's nice to know he's not the only dog that acts that way and I can feel a little less ridiculous when I'm in those situations.
I've never read a book so fast! ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU Learning about his dogs and experiences was just the icing on the cake - bed this book through and through. We're working with our new pup and Brandon's advise was just what I needed. Wish he'd just come and train for me haha but it's good for us and happy to have this new set of tools to use on our pup.
Thank you for these videos and this series! There is pretty much nothing better you can do to help shelter dogs than to 1. train as many as you reasonably can so they get adopted easier, and 2. teach lay-people like myself how to train their shelter puppies with unknown backgrounds and completely unexpected issues! This series and your last one ARE making a difference for shelter dogs, and I'm so happy to see you working with rescues that haven't been adopted yet.
George is so smart I can see him thinking every time you guys are working on his training. I’m just waiting for him to pull out a pen and notebook and start calling you “sir.” On a side note, my foster pittie goes CRAZY over balls too, so I’m excited to see how you manage this with George!
please keep him.. you look like the perfect match..he's a clever boy and tries so hard to communicate with you..i think there is no one that would care for him and try to make the best out of him, more than you... he s so happy with you!!!
This ball thing is like an actual cliffhanger, everything was going so well but Zak finally found the weak point 😅 I love watching this series, it's full of surprises and inspiring ❤
U handled the outburst right, that was a good example what to do if anything unexpected happens... I trained my rescue border collie pit bull mix based on your videos... he turned out amazing ... thank you 😊
I have a really reactive border collie and I’ve tried training her with professionals to no avail. Since watching your videos I have the confidence to start training her myself and how to be safe about it! So far she seems really excited to be learning and have some enrichment with her mama. 😊
This ball thing is so relatable. We went to a leash training session to practice passing and ignoring dogs on leash. The training session ended with me running after my dog whose collar broke into a football field, through a small hole in the fence a few times and wrestling a dog half my size out of there. Never before did I expect that to happen.
A lot of people who train their dogs have been like this..me a lot of times i love the fact tha you show the reality and you dont give up..you help us in so many ways and i love this positivity
So glad you captured that highly relatable experience. Now we get to see an example of what us armature dog training enthusiasts should do when we find ourselves in similar situations. Thank you!!
I have to admit to laughing hysterically when you were dealing with George and the ball (your nemesis!) Unfortunately I’m dealing with regular similar outbursts with my anxious and stubborn 5 month standard poodle. He’s been quite the challenge.
My blue nose pit use to almost take my hand off when we played ball. I had to really work with her and now she brings the ball back and waits. I have been watching you for a long time and you never disappoint. Thank you for all what you do. I always assign my pet parents to watch your videos for homework.
I've been dying to watch this all day! Glad Bree filmed this because it wouldn't be reality without it. I wonder if he played with balls at the shelter. There has to be an explanation. He's still an amazing dog. You've taught me how to really enjoy my dogs Zak. My arm is still healing from the sit pretty attempts, however, my Eli can do a wicked crawl and so many other things. You make it so easy. Thank you!
So impressed with your ability to control George with the baseball. I have a 65 pound Rhody that can lunge like no other. I used to walk my Great Dane and a Dane mix, about 250 lbs combined and they couldn’t pull with the same force.
I have a pit mix from pound and am so grateful for this series. Mine is a velcro dog. I can see how smart they are, just lots of time to redirect energy.
I've had similar experiences with my previous dog who was 90lbs and highly reactive. Yes, it's embarrassing to have to literally wrestle your dog in public, and yes some people thought she was a "bad" dog and I was probably a "bad" owner. But that's because they didn't know what it's like to have a highly reactive dog. I never knew what it meant until I had her. She wasn't mean or "bad" and I never gave up on her. I do wish I had found you years ago when I had her.
I'm going through this right now. I only let family members walk my dog now because she raises my anxiety so much in public with her reactivity to everything. She's an incredibly intelligent and loving dog but I do get very flustered in public when she gets like that. 🐶🌺🌸
@@SimoneDaPink I wish I had worked with a trainer to help us with some of her issues. If you can do that, I really recommend it. Don't give up, and keep working with her. The bond that you'll have with her will be very special.
I am addicted to watching you train George! He did very well with you and all the distractions you encountered. Even the baseball incident is something that we have all experienced as dog owners! If not a baseball then some other toy or a squirrel running in the yard. He is so darn smart and I am so happy that you and George have this amazing bond!
I think that you are a wonderful trainer! And since you are such a nice and efficient dog trainer..George is trying his best to make you proud. :-) Good work keep going
So grateful for this series! Though my pup isn’t quite the same as George, this is the series that has resonated the most with me so far. I got my English Bulldog back in February after a friend’s dog had puppies. I’ve never had a puppy (or even a dog) before and this channel plus your two books and your 30-Day course with Pupford have taught me and Benson (my pup) everything we know! I’m so grateful for you and Bree and Indy and Inertia and your cat (whose name escapes me at the moment) and Kona and Moira Rose and George! Absolutely loving this channel and this series, especially multiple new episodes a week! Here’s hoping Alaska isn’t quite as hot as the rest of the U.S. right now! 💜
George is such a gorgeous dog 🥺❤️! I’m not surprised you fell in love with him, who wouldn’t. I feel like after nearly 11 years I’m getting so much closer to getting a dog, although I doubt I would get one this year, but I never know what might happen! Great video!
Great job on George and I would love to see a video where Bree does a training session. She doesn't have to do it when the dog is learning a newer trick bit it would be cool to watch someone else help train. That way you can also see how the dog listens to other people.
Yes! I've seen lots of dogs in my family who obey their owners perfectly, but completely ignore strangers who give commands. Would be nice to have this issue addressed in one of Zak's future videos!
I found it really satisfying to see what you might think of as a failed training session. It's really important to be challenged, and this looks like a really challenge so I'm excited to see how you deal with George's ball addiction!
George has been doing so well with training. I thinks it's important for dog and trainer alike to take a "day off". Keep training minimal that day and just let them be a dog. It gives them the day to relax and process the weeks training. Not saying don't train at all that day but only as needed training. I gave my puppy a day off and the next day she was more focused and less frustrated and she didn't forget anything we had worked on.
That is so cute to see George learn to belly-crawl! I taught my dogs to do that by sitting in a chair then getting them in a down position and luring them under my legs with a snack... Now my pitbull, Bonnie, belly-crawls all over the room thumping her front paws on the ground as hard as she can to get attention and treats... She knows how much I find this to be entertaining and she loves the attention it gets her! Lol!
Zac … Twelve steps forward; ok, one step back. Tomorrow is a new day. Stay encouraged and positive. You are doing a wonderful job with George!!!! Hang in there!!! Me and mine wish you and yours all things great and good; take care, be safe, all my best and God bless!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 🤠🖖✝️🙏🐩
I love the "George series" so much. I have the female version of a George at home, I see a lot of similar positiv behaviour, but also the similar "issues". You, both, are a great inspiration for our training. Big cuddle to George, you definitely are a good boy and thanks to Zak for understanding and working with him, the way you do. 👍♥️
Pitbulls have a focus like no one else. My Orion loved goose poop as a puppy. He would memorize the spots where the geese pooped on the first walk around for morning potty. And then after breakfast, he would steer me towards the piles and eat them. Once they have something they want, they find ways to get it!
This is my dog!! It's the most anxiety raising behaviour of all. I used to ask her to sit and wait, and then say leave it, and toss numerous tennis balls on the ground around her before saying "off you go" which is her release and she'd dart over and grab a ball. Reminds me to get back to that training! Mines 3.5yo and it's that level reactivity that's delayed street walking. But at this time her maturity is kicking in and all the foundation work, all the training from home is paying off and only now starting to translate to other places. You're doing great with George!
im pleased you filmed and posted this because there are too many "perfect" training sessions when you are trying to learn, that is why i enjoy your videos, it would be so easy for you to use your already trained boarder collie to show us how to train our dogs but we don't get to see the frustrations and how quickly it can derail with an already trained to master dog, which means alot of people with a dog with minium training get fluster and put off because they dont see even professionals have these same frustrations with training and have to put the same time and effort into a untrained dog as we do at home, so thank you for being real and showing us this
Loving the series zak!!!! Thanks for putting 2 episodes a week . Appreciate you for showing the outburst at the end. Waiting to see how you are going to handle that issue.
Quick edit: Omgosh! My Pitt loves anything in ball form as well. You are my favorite dog trainer because of how humble you are. You don’t have a problem voicing concern and frustration. Thank you for that. I have a Pitt and whew she’s amazing and a tornado all in one.
This is the first episode of George that I watched a day later the release. In this episode realised that training canine is just like a parenting, we feel everything is going well until we hit the road block, we need to try every day as first day. Excited for next episode.
Don't ever wish something wasn't filmed-it's great to see both the successes and failures-if you want to call it that. George loves balls and his reaction wasn't terrible, but I understand you didn't want him to get away, or anything. He's making wonderful progress with you, so keep up the great work!
I've only scanned a few comments for this episode but the positivity is really warming, George is just being a full on dog. We have a rescue mutt, I suspect whippet x pitbull with a bit of blue heeler and kangaroo in the mix. She makes George look like a Crufts obedience champion. Despite her insane drive and energy, day by day she is turning into a stunning dog. Same methods as you. Consistency, positivity and patience. She's about 11 months, I suspect that at 2 years she will be a proper show pony. George loves balls, my pup loves rats. Think yourself lucky. Thank you for the great training ideas, it's sometimes difficult to think of new ways to engage and train a dog. Particularly a dog that runs on nuclear energy and wants to rule the universe.
I got my pittie mix 2 years ago and your videos helped so much with training him! So thank you from me and him 😄 you're doing so good with george, you can tell hes a good boy :)
I'm watching more dog training videos lately. I used to watch them simply for entertainment and yes, I even picked up on some of Victoria Stillwell's tactics to teach dogs myself how to behave for me. I love watching your training. Recently I found you because I actually finally realized that I want to train dogs and looked up videos after I've been talking with a friend who's interested about starting an online course to get our licenses to train. I believe I'm going to probably model my training off a mixture of you and Victoria, but I need to go through the course and learn more myself before I can even make those decisions. But I'm excited and watching the progress you make with the dogs you train keeps me excited. It's so amazing watching them understand and start to follow your directions even when you aren't trying for it really. It makes me realize how much you can do with training and how quickly. ♥️ Love it. Keep it up
Thank you for filming the realities of training a dog, especially a strong one. That outburst is likely a situation that would potentially scare an owner into returning/abandoning a dog to a shelter or worse, so showing how to manage that situation and the training in general will hopefully show owners the proper way to address these very typical behaviors. My 2 year old Corgi can get overly excited when he plays with other dogs and I came back here to your videos to get some pointers on the best way to address it. Sure enough, the tips you gave when George and Inertia were playing were just what I am looking for. Thank you!
Let's get real... If that's the worst he does in training he's an amazing dog. That's not even close to a trainer failure... It's just a dog learning the hard way as sometimes is necessary. Well done with that beautiful dog... You should definitely keep him.. he adores you!
Omg I love George. He reminds me of my Misfit of 12 years old. She loved her balls but she all so loved to swim. She was obsessed with them, but I used to work with her as u did with lots of other distractions. She would have been great at agility. So I did stuff like that in my yard for her. Her ball was her motivation and treats as well. Thanks for sharing these wonderful motivation and great ways to train this pup. He has lots of energy. U could play ball with him in your yard before you head back out to the area of the park of many ball distraction. He may not be so eager to want the ball as much. U just never know worth a try. I used to do this with mine before we would have to go for a walk especially if she's been waiting for me while I was at work all day. It tired her out for her walk and so did swimming.
Hi Zak! We got my goldendoodle puppy 3 years ago and never crate trained him and I had to crate train him in literally I think 3 hours with breaks in between and using your methods he now loves the crate after being terrified of it he will go in on command and stay in there for about 30 minutes sleeping and being calm without any noise and I am so happy with him right now!
Some dogs like balls more than others! Oh George, my white AmStaff Bert collects baseballs, lacrosse balls, and tennis balls along the perimeters of some parks on walks. Every walk almost, he finds one and carries it home. I’ve got a bushel full of balls on the porch for his collection! He’s very chill about it though at this point, with a collection of hundreds. Such personality!
Love the micro-step detail you are showing in these videos. I am using them on my own chihuahua jack russel and it is working. George is an amazing and intelligent dog. Tell me he becomes George George; family member :-)

Thank you for the first part, I just finished training my new puppy, and he's great thanks to this!!!!
"Not gettin' that ball!"
George: That won't stop me from trying!
Zak I wish you luck with George, really hope the training works out well in the long term. If there’s anyone who can do it, that person is you. 🤝
Reality Dog Training! It's in the title. George is doing great. He is still learning.
his progress blows my mind and his ears melt my heart
Lol!
Thank you for showing your struggles as well as your victories…it’s so encouraging for me as I train/keep training my three labs!
Great video Zak ! I enjoy the training that you and George did. I am excited to see the next video.
You are very right, hi how are you doing!
@@andrewwilliam363 I am doing good.
@@nataliebaldwin351 thank you for your kind of reply what is your name?
@@nataliebaldwin351 hope you are having a nice and wonderful time today?
You are showing us every dog is different in every training session.Thank you for that
He is a tornado and it is adorable . I love the effort you invest on him
I love the "George series" so much.
Sounds good, hi how are you doing!
@@andrewwilliam363 what sounds good
@@starsantheoriginal I mean the way you qualify the dog, Thank you for your kind of reply what is your name?
@@andrewwilliam363 qualify what dog? I was talking about a thing my dog did when he was a puppy
And it's Starsan, you already said it lol
@@starsantheoriginal wow I must confess that you have a nice and lovely name.
"George...no relation" cracked me up
Yes you are very right, hi how are you doing!
me to
I have a ball OBSESSED dog so I am excited to see how you train him with this one!!
Don't ever wish something wasn't filmed-it's great to see both the successes and failures-if you want to call it that. George loves balls and his reaction wasn't terrible, but I understand you didn't want him to get away, or anything. He's making wonderful progress with you, so keep up the great work!
Thanks Bree and Zak for another great episode! George is such a good boy ❤️
Your authenticity is so appreciated!
You are so patient with dog training
Love from INDIA😊😊
I think that important to share. My doodle does that sometimes with the lunging and barking. These videos are so helpful!
Great video! Thanks Bree and Zak! Looking forward to each new video you post on this series 👍
Dude you got a big heart, don't ever lose it.
George makes me not scared of pit bull type dogs as much. Very smart and such a good boy!
I got my pittie mix 2 years ago and your videos helped so much with training him! So thank you from me and him 😄 you're doing so good with george, you can tell hes a good boy :)
Every time that channel icon appears in my notifications I quit what I do and tap :)
Nice to see another ball crazed dog! Excited to learn steps to help curb this extreme enthusiasm!
Thank you!
He’s so precious!
Your camera man is awesome for helping. Man I have been caught by surprise by a pup too!
Yeah hi how are you doing!
George is a beautiful smart dog. Amazing work/training.
Let's get real... If that's the worst he does in training he's an amazing dog. That's not even close to a trainer failure... It's just a dog learning the hard way as sometimes is necessary. Well done with that beautiful dog... You should definitely keep him.. he adores you!
I loved how you shaped "shake." Very imaginative!!!
Zak you made me laugh out loud re..that ball..the connection between Zak and George ❤️
At this very moment my Staffy dog won't release the tennis ball he just found in the park on our walk today. He is obsessed with balls
You are absolutely the king of RUclips thumbnails… And I know, you have to be to benefit the system.
Love the micro-step detail you are showing in these videos. I am using them on my own chihuahua jack russel and it is working. George is an amazing and intelligent dog. Tell me he becomes George George; family member :-)
It really takes some balls to train a dog like George! 😂😂💜💜
I love these more frequent uploads!
My Molly is a combo of Moria and George combined! Both series are a tremendous help for Molly and I. Thank you so much! 💗
