The guy you're talking about going across the Gap? His name is Yellow Wolf. 100% legit story. Here's an addendum to that story; One time he didn't ride his own GoldWing to the Gap and instead flew in and rented one from a local rental shop. While he was picking up the bike he told the guy to just go ahead and buy another set of footrests. The guy asked him why and he YW just told him to do it and of course he'd pay for them. After YW had his fun and was leaving to go back home he brought that GoldWing back to the shop and lo and behold the footrests were worn down basically nubs. YW rides those bikes better than 99% of any sportbike rider up there at the Gap. The man is an absolute beast on a Goldwing. Anyways, I thought I'd share this story with you and whomever else decides they want to read it.

Outside of the pain in the ass oil/primary/transmission fluid changes (which I do myself and hate doing), I blew a fork seal on bad section of road in my town. A guy I know who's grandpa used to own a Kawasaki shop fixed it for me. Charged me 20 bucks. It always cracks me up when people state how unreliable Harleys are as my experience is just the opposite. Owned several Honda dirt bikes and crotch rockets before I got old and wanted a cruiser. Not one of those Hondas gave me a single problem. Maurice, I rode a Honda for years. Most of my friends had HD. I caught a lot of jokes my way. But I was always the one who had to go back to town to get something to fix their HD. And it was funny how many of the guys borrowed my bike.
Been riding Goldwings since 1982. Never broke down or hesitated going on a long trip thinking my bike would not make it. Really .... you get your money worth with the goldwing ..... really!
I had probably owned my first R1 for about a year. I followed a Goldwing through a canyon road in Central Cal going to PCH from I-5. That Goldwing rider took me for one hell of a ride. I had no idea a bike that big could perform like that. He never got away from me, but he was fast. I was fighting hard to stay with him. He obviously knew the road well.
I've been riding supersport and dirt bikes my whole life, but I always look at Goldwings in awe. The power, the comfort, the ability to ride it for hours on end without back pain or fatigue. I saw a brand new Goldwing, cherry red at a gas station. The bike was a 2017,looking damn good. I will get one some day
30 year old here. My wife and I purchased a 2012 goldwing 3 years ago with 14k on the odometer. 30K miles later and we've been to all the Northeast provinces in Canada, northeast states in the USA, Florida, Michigan, Texas, etc. It is an incrediblely comfortable and reliable machine. Looking forward to more trips on our wing!
I have a Kawasaki Vaquero. It is the Voyager without a trunk. I currently have 20k on the bike. I live in Virginia and one trip took me to California and another trip took meto Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. I am going back to California in June. The bike has never had an issue. It is much cheaper than the Goldwing. It has great power, 6 gears, cruise control, speakers, liquid cooled, a fixed fork mounted fairing, 1700cc v twin engine, floor boards, heel shift, hard bags and an engine guard. It is nimble and sporty while having many classic features. It is great but few people have them. If the price of a Goldwing gives you pause then get a Kawasaki Voyager or Vaquero. They are true cross country highway killers. I have done 1000 miles in a day on this bike and it never disappoints.
Got my first Goldwing today...the same bike you are riding, color and all. Been watching your videos for a couple of weeks for encouragement. Appreciate your videos, scripture and all.
I just turned 34 myself and got a 2016 Goldwing. At first I tried it out at the dealership to see how it was expecting to not like it at all. Wife wanted something more comfy I came can with a huge grin and knew I had to get it. I've had a decent number of bikes over the years and the Goldwing is my favorite!
I’m 52 and bought a 2018 Goldwing Tour. It has been redesigned with a mixture of sport bike and cruising bike. 80lbs lighter with a newly designed 1833 cc engine. Super nimble in the corners and pure comfort to ride. It’s still quiet but it has a small rumble of sportiness. I ridden sport bikes my whole life and this machine is amazing. If you haven’t ridden one, you definitely need to test drive one. You won’t be sorry.
@@joshbobst1629 I miss the cargo space. I wear a full face helmet size 4XL and it wont fit in my trunk. The fairing is great. Cuts out tons of wind when its raised. It is an excellent bike and I'm very happy I purchased it.
I’m almost 50 now, purchased my first Wing at 46, a 2003. They are NOT an “Old Man’s Bike”, and they certainly have Young Man’s horsepower. Plus they handle like a sport bike. BEST bike hands down I’ve ever owned.
Goldwings are for touring only really. No bike probably touches the practicality of the Goldwing for that use. When your going for a 1000 mile trip its probably the best thing you can do it on
I owned the same bike. It was a GL1000 Standard. Good bike. I owned two Honda's, this one and a '85 - 700 California Hot Rod, the bike Honda built to get around the tariffs imposed when Harley bought themselves back from AMF. I liked both bikes. I just hate the haters of Harley's. Good luck on your rebuild!
I’m 21 and have a 1982 GL500 silverwing in excellent condition it’s like a CX500 with goldwing luggage and fairing but it’s significantly lighter than a goldwing and I love it.
@@epoxeclipse C14's feel so top heavy to me. I may try riding one again tomorrow. I've owned two F6B's and one GW. Probably getting rid of my Z900RS tomorrow. No wind protection absolutely sucks IMO.
Where is the air conditioning? I like my comfort when I ride. I have owned nothing but Honda's since 1969. I have owned a Goldwing and a CBX my favorite was the CBX nothing like that in line 6 cylinder, 4 valve motor and the power and the sound was awesome.
Love my goldwing, have the same year model and colour 'Crucible Orange Metallic' as the one in your video, the best long distance bike ever, but just as at home for those short trips to the shops or a quick run for a coffee. Unfortunately there's no going back to a full on sports bike for me.
In response to Josh, yes I retired from Bridgestone and with all the knowledge I received through the years is why I use motorcycle tires for bikes and car tires for cars.
I come from a goldwing and still have it and ride it. I bought a new 2018 Yamaha FJR and the biggest thing I've noticed is that the goldwing, even though it's a 2008, is that it certainly handles better. Much better. It just feels really well built and solid. The FJR is nice but oh man the goldwing is hands down the winner in my garage.
I was moving to florida from Chicago and a friend said "you gotta go through the smokey mountains its soooo beautiful" so I drove through the dragons tail in a full sized Uhaul WHILE towing a mustang. Yea.
just traded a beat up square body for a 83 goldwing best trade a ever did. totally makes sense why older guys ride them. smooth ride no noise minus the radio
I'm 62 and taking the MSF basic rider course next month, and as a beginner rider, would you recommend a used Goldwing for my first motorcycle? Absolutely love them. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
They don’t reply or answer questions but beg for subs. If you have never ridden before your MSF course, I would start with a smaller bike for a year then move up when you build confidence. If you have ridden before, try to test ride one to see how confident you are. The Wing is actually well balanced and easy to ride but can be intimidating at slow speed maneuvering if you don’t practice
@@wingandhog I appreciate you for taking the time to answer my question. I purchased a Suzuki TU250X just last week. Only rode it around the neighborhood a couple of times, because I want to change the oil, cleanup the chain and other maintenance on it. Thank you.
28 and had one a year ago. Was great for going to work with all the storage. Friends joked on it, but that's why I have the s1000rr for weekend riding.
I'm 36 and own one. People wonder why im not 66. Man, all the young guys have no idea what they're missing. Its kind of funny that its stigma is around older owners. Most powerful, agile and super comfortable bike I have ever owned.
That's what I was told before I bought my first Goldwing. One of the reasons you mostly see older guys is because they have already bought their house and car, and probably don't have to pay for childcare and baby food.
Woody Huband until you have to pick it up...... Gonna have to admit ... when my body gets heavier and my wallet does too... ADV bikes are gonna be my go to bike
My last three bikes have been Suzuki Hayabusa's, but after a gap of five years the call to go back to two wheels became too loud to ignore and off I went to find me another 'Busa. Only problem was I found a dealer who also had a stunning 2004 Wing, with a paltry 10k on the clock. Well, in the spirit of 'best try another bike to compare' I took it for a ride.......I'm now the proud owner of a stunning blue Gold Wing and loving every minute of it.....don't knock 'em 'til you've tried 'em...!!
My last bike was a busa. I traded it for my 2014 Valkyrie. Absolutely love it. The engine is immense and just has a feeling of huge stump pulling oomph!
Love the Goldwing GL1800 ! I've been on ultra classic, royal star venture, GL1500 , vision, shadow, etc. Hands down, best all-around sport & touring bike. Best balance for 890lb, 0-60mph 4.5 sec, cruise all day long doing 70-80mph, engine just purring along, not breaking a sweat, average 32mpg, ride the back country road - twisty , like a crotch rocket. Engine basically bulletproof. I've seen a couple of them with over 300,000mi.
36 years young. Ride an old 1982 GL1100. Stripped off all the extra weight. 80+hp 65 lb-ft of torque. Stops harder, handles better pulls, away stronger than you'd ever expect. Smoothest bike I've ever ridden. The only thing a Gold Wing isn't good at is off road. Everything else, it's GREAT at.
Buying a naked 83 GL1100 in two days. 100k miles with no issues aside from resyncing the carbs up because it idles a little high at low. Any issues I should be concerned with?
What camera and microphone setup do you use to do your videos? I like the fact that I can see what you see, hear what you say and you don't have a lot of WIND noise. I would like to replicate what you are doing...Great videos...Thanks!!
Don't understand the hate on the iso-grips. I love them. Had them on my first bike, a Rebel 250. Just bought some for my latest bike, an early Shadow 500. I wasn't able to put them on my Triumph Scrambler because I was putting barkbusters on, went with a large diameter cushy rubber grip. I need the larger diameter due to carpal tunnel issues, my hands go numb quickly dealing with the stock small diameter grips(especially on the throttle side). I also install a throttle lock so I don't need to keep constant pressure on the throttle hand.
Thanks to you from Thebigeskimo .......When my Goldwing is in hibernation mode in Alaska I watch your vids to endure the hard cold months till spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also get by on my snowmobile till spring. God bless you and yours._.._..._.__robert
I have a 2002 that looks exactly like this one in the video. When riding single, you'd think you were on a small crotch rocket, except that it's not top-heavy. The weight really disappears underneath you. I don't know how they made such a big bike feel so small (and I am 5'11" and weigh only 160 lbs.)! I always, always, always wanted a Harley FHS (??) 1200, until I rode one. The shaking, top heaviness, and the fact there was no shaft available for any amount of money sent me running ! I ended up buying nothing until 5 yrs later, I rode a friends GL 1000 (the early 4-cyl Goldwing) and I was hooked. Then came 1200, then 6-cylinder 1500, then came the 1800...... and THAT's when I "pulled the trigger" and got one! I didn't think they could get any better than that, without just overdoing it and screwing something up..... handling, fuel mileage ( I get 45-50 mpg), or whatever goes wrong when manufacturers should stop! My wife was even pushing for me to get one, always mentioning wherever we may have travelled, "Boy, it sure would have been GREAT to have had a Wing under us on these roads, this mountain pass, this forested drive!" Etc, etc, etc. I plan on keeping mine until 300,000 miles or so & then get a new one if they add a double- overdrive to the transmission. Even then, I'm keeping the first one!
I grew up being spoonfed the dislike of plastic dressed bikes, and especially cruisers/tourers. Parents are all about the classics. I rode old BMW, Yamaha, a 75yo NSU, but then I bought a dirt-cheap Honda Pan European, the goldwings younger cousin. 1100cc 100hp V4, all comfort, but less fuss and bling than a GL. I absolutely love it. I hate that I love it, but goddamn, do I love this bike. It's bloody fast, super comfy, quiet, tons of storage, and very agile. You should try one!
My cousin has been riding for years and has a golding 1500 interstate. We all went through the dragon too. I was on my vmax, another friend with a c5 corvette, and him with his wing. He was first then me then corvette. He was dragging every corner having a ball. He'd wave at every camera, one hand on the bars, with sparks flying off lol. I still have a few of the pictures somewhere. I had to push it pretty hard to keep up in corners and actually dragged my exhaust a few times haha. The friend in the vette had a hell of a time keeping up he said. Had it try to jump sideways once and scared him a bit haha. Those goldwings may be ugly on the outside but they're great bikes underneath.
Goldwings are awesome! It's just that simple. I really want a 2014 or 15 valkyrie as my 3rd bike or try to wait for the new one to become lightly used without the topbox the new F6B. That's my dream bike right now because I don't like to finance anything.
@@mikekosar6135 as you should. I was gonna get one but realize I didn't have garage space lol! I settled for a 2012 concours 14 which I love like one of my children probably more lol!!
Deals Gap runs between NC and TN, but besides that small point it’s been a while since I was there and it will forever be imprinted in my mind as the most intense exercise in pure concentration. I’ve seen many a Gold Wing pilot run up and down the nearby Blueridge Pkwy, completely smoking hotshot sportbikers. Lean angles achieved are impressive as is corner exit acceleration.
I love my Goldwing my first one was a 1981 gl1100 cafe racer my current bike is a 1990 gl1500 a lot of people underestimate the goldwing they put out more power than I thought
as for the handle grip its made to give you comfort and a little break on your hand that is if you ride long riding or long distance its much more comfy on your palms and fingers you just not used to it thinking you wont be able to handle the bar properly but look at you after few minutes u not talking about it anymore
After 26 bikes I got a newer Goldwing. My wife didn’t want a “seniors bike”, even though we’re in our early sixties. We had just recently put 150,000 kms on a BMW 1150 RT and loved it but it was a bit cramped for two up and all our gear. The Wing has been a revelation and she loves the Lazy Boy chair in the back. Not too fond of the brand new Wing though. It has lost some of its practicality. I like the new steering system and six speed tranny but that’s about it.
Followed two old guys on gold wings through shady valley Tennessee one time throwing sparks and having a blast. Made me really think about why i'm riding a uncomfortable sport bike for sure. there comfortable, quit and police don't rite you five tickets ever time they catch you having fun.
i’m 20 and own a yamaha FJR. best god damn bike ever made. (only because it’s an old man bike but when you take the bags off it just looks like a beast
I'm 41 and just bought my first GW (2003) to test out. I've always wanted one. I'm 6'0" and athletic build. And did I mention I'm black lol. Not many black guys my age riding GW's but idgaf. I love it and and now a GW man for life. Never wanted a HD. Too loud and shaky (not sure why that's the thing). I've owned Suzuki GSXR and Buell X1 but was ready for a full sized bike with radio and storage. Really love it and it's everything I thought it would be. Only downfalls are audio (not great)...plan on upgrading and getting hwy pegs.
There are more of us than you think!!! I've been riding since I was 11. I rebuilt my (white) neighbor's from across the street, yamaha dirt bike, and they never let me ride it. I still have love for them but, I've been pissed ever since! lol
1800 Goldwing is smooth and fast with two people on it you never run out of power, running first, 3rd and fifth gears it hauls ass, The wing foot pegs are too high- a set of floor boards help. another good motorcycle was the 1992 Kawasaki Voyager 1200.XXI, no issues with it, easy to maintain. inexpensive way to get into a touring cycle, it had plenty of power and it runs forever.
The wing needs few accessories since everything is sooo good. Awesome seat, mirror placement, lighting, etc except 2 things to know. 1st, lean angle is not up there with sport tourers but still good. The 2nd thing is when you put you legs down , the seat being so wide, you ass shifts forward as you lower your legs. otherwise perfect as far as i am concerned. I owned a 2002 wing and now a 2014 wing and a 2021 r1250rt. I've had k1600 gtl, 2 fjrs, 2 vfrs , a cbr1100xx and a cbr 1000, zx9r, 2 zl 1000s, a v max, a zl600 and started out on a 81 kz440. nothing is as comfortable or designed to go cross country like a wing. Then they invented the 2018 and improved handling at the expense of the things the wing used to rule at. too bad.
Can’t believe the Bible verse hate. I’m not religious and I don’t believe in church really, but I gotta say I’m surprised how big of an issue that seems to be.
I’m 27 and on my second Goldwing out of 4 bikes I’ve owned. First was an ‘81 1100 Interstate, I was sold. I’m a tall big frame guy and the Goldwing is just the perfect fit and very comfortable. Now I’m riding an ‘86 1200 Aspencade and I love it! Surprisingly nimble for such a huge bike, the old Goldwing’s are soooooo cheap to buy and maintain. Trust me I’d love to buy a HD Road King but I’m not paying that hefty price tag. For granted the old Wings are not the most stylish bikes by most peoples standards, but ever since I was a kid I always thought they looked like space ships all dressed up and thus I thought they looked sweet! When I ride with my friends they are always getting fatigued on their crotch rockets and I just think to myself, “we really need to stop again?”
I got to ask when buying a bike from somebody not a dealer how not to get ripped off by meaning if there's something wrong with it where do you take it to what are you do I will be purchasing a Harley-Davidson if that will help
My brother bought a brand new Goldwing 2012 or so. I while riding I would slide back on the Rider seat and it felt like a cafe style bike. I was impressed with its performance.
I have that exact read Goldwing 1800 absolutely love it I've had to Harley's my sons had three not bashing them I love them but got tired of working on these bikes are absolutely Bulletproof
I bought the one Sean had with the car tire on it but he had removed the car tire before I bought it. When I learned that mine was THE ONE I bought the tire and wheel from him. Tried it, didn’t like it, now it belongs to a hard core Darksider in Maine. It’s not for everyone! Love the wing though! It’s my 4th.
in 1974 i put a vw tire(4.00x16) on my honda 1971 750cc(yes i changed out stock rear wheel) the tire was a third of the price of a bike tire and lasted twice as long
mid 70,s i was riding a bonneville.guy comes to the pub on a red goldwing.he took me for a spin.i new the british bike industry was dead.ride a 650 v strom now.very happy.
I got one when I was 27 years old. That was in 1977, always ahead of my time lol I'll give u a clue as to what I bought this summer. It has carbon wheels and shift cam technology, way more my kind of bike :) I only hope I can get vaccinated before my 70th birthday in 2 months so I can enjoy the summer on it before my arthritis gets too bad.
Sean, Have those "stupid" grips on my Kawi Vulcan and love them. 50 mile commute one way. The palm swells on the throttle acts like an improvised cruise control.
I got those grips on my bikes for the last 10 years. I feel more comfortable with them because it's cushioned and I can grip better, with or without gloves.
A fast rider beats a fast bike any day! I've seen dudes eat up sport bikes on gwings and harleys. Young guys think just because they have a liter bike they are fast, but if they don't know how to ride properly, they go pretty slow.
There are some great deals to be had on Goldwings right now. Especially in the 2006-2010 range. You‘d have to give me a new one. I like my 2007 just fine.
Excellent bike for the price. I’m 40 and I would definitely buy a GW if I have the money. For the meantime, I will stick to an SUV until I’ll raise enough funds for that bike. I would like to have a CB500x and a PCX150 for city driving too.
OK...wait until you ride a 2021/22 Goldwing Tour DCT !!!!!! This is my third GW in 42 years and my new one (2021 GW Tour DCT) outshines the others by a factor of 3 or 4! The modes, the mileage, the SUSPENSION, the DCT !!! If you ride it, you will like it! (LOVE it.) Good Rides
Graywolf has rode a SS1000 IRONBUTT on the Tail of the Dragon. Fyi that big yellow wing has 3$grand of suspendtion work on it. Even then passin 200 of anything except trees is just plain bullcrap. Ive rode the dragon on my wing 10 times n its a big lumbering beast on the switchbacks.

The 2018 model is absolutely amazing and Honda really out did themselves on this one.
Vince Prime: Have you found yourself missing the extra cargo space? Or the wider fairing?
@@joshbobst1629 I miss the cargo space. I wear a full face helmet size 4XL and it wont fit in my trunk. The fairing is great. Cuts out tons of wind when its raised. It is an excellent bike and I'm very happy I purchased it.
80 lbs lighter but still fucking huge.
Jimmy Winslow yes but it sure doesn’t ride like it’s huge!
I’m almost 50 now, purchased my first Wing at 46, a 2003. They are NOT an “Old Man’s Bike”, and they certainly have Young Man’s horsepower. Plus they handle like a sport bike. BEST bike hands down I’ve ever owned.
I let my 20 yr old son ride my wing for the first time. he said that was the "Cadillac " of all bikes. he is planning on buying one now.
Goldwings are for touring only really. No bike probably touches the practicality of the Goldwing for that use. When your going for a 1000 mile trip its probably the best thing you can do it on
Yeah, Just jump on it, do a thousand miles and never see a thing but road.
I don't know about that. The 2018 and newer Goldwings could easily be classified as a sport touring bike...
@@jamesbottger5894
Completely agree
Im 23 almost 24 and I dream about goldwing :3 they are great machines. High top speed, comfortable and with good exhaust ot sounds amazing.
I'm restoring my uncle's 1978 Goldwing thats been sitting since he passed in 2012.
I believe the Goldwing 100%. I got too many buddies that ride them with experiences very similar. Those things are like ninjas in a fat suit.
or.. you know.. the fat ninja aka concours 14 with exceptionally all around supirior performance and used as a cop bike.
Kawi Concours 14 all the way baby
@@epoxeclipse C14's feel so top heavy to me. I may try riding one again tomorrow. I've owned two F6B's and one GW. Probably getting rid of my Z900RS tomorrow. No wind protection absolutely sucks IMO.
@@Stclairm1 they are maybe a little top heavy, performance and comfort though is amazing.

Yea.
Goldwing is the King if touring bikes
The " Queen" actually
just traded a beat up square body for a 83 goldwing best trade a ever did. totally makes sense why older guys ride them. smooth ride no noise minus the radio
I love the sound of stock Honda Gold Wing. It sound like something out of sci-fi flick!
Just bought my first goldwing at 35. The 2021 basic model manual love it !!
Just bought one myself at 35 years old. I’ve got a CRF 250 Rally and a Goldwing. Pretty much the perfect combination of bikes to own.
From Cambria County PA. Living in Me. now. Love your videos. I'm a big Goldwing fan.
Thank you.

ive never seen a "young guy" on a goldwing
28 and had one a year ago. Was great for going to work with all the storage. Friends joked on it, but that's why I have the s1000rr for weekend riding.
+Froio Fitness you saw me riding one on this video!
Ive owned Goldwings since the age of 24. Bought a left over 2010, and then tried three other touring bikes and went back to the Wing.
I'm 36 and own one. People wonder why im not 66. Man, all the young guys have no idea what they're missing. Its kind of funny that its stigma is around older owners. Most powerful, agile and super comfortable bike I have ever owned.
Son i want a golwing.
You don't like a Goldwing? When your body gets a little heavier and your wallet gets a lot heavier, then you'll understand :-)
Amen woody
That's what I was told before I bought my first Goldwing. One of the reasons you mostly see older guys is because they have already bought their house and car, and probably don't have to pay for childcare and baby food.
Woody Huband until you have to pick it up......
Gonna have to admit ... when my body gets heavier and my wallet does too... ADV bikes are gonna be my go to bike
Far too many old guys buy heavy barges they won't ride.
Wow!!😲
The only time my Darkside 1500 goldwing lost traction on the dragon's tail, was when I high-sided on my center stand!! Awesome ride that day.
I saw an old guy pop a wheelie on a Goldwing, it was awesome!
😃😃that ol' man still got it!!
Goldwing is a great and legendary bike, but I haven’t seen a young guy on one yet.
I bought my 1800 at age 25

👍👍
I’m curious as well. I think Ryan F9 made a video on his setup- I’ll have to go back and check.
"Why does everyone put these stupid grips on every single bike!" That's funny because my uncle has those grips too.
Brent McDonald I so not. They mess up the heating.. some people do like them because they’re larger diameter
makes you think, doesn't it
Don't understand the hate on the iso-grips.
I want one because they are the best motorcycle cruiser ever made, no one can ever top it.
ride my wing daily and it has reverse
Goldwings are awesome! It's just that simple. I really want a 2014 or 15 valkyrie as my 3rd bike or try to wait for the new one to become lightly used without the topbox the new F6B. That's my dream bike right now because I don't like to finance anything.
I love, love, LOVE.. my f6b

2002-2010 honda gold wing ... Or 2010-2014 harley ultra limited ??? For long rides and touring ??
Deals Gap runs between NC and TN, but besides that small point it’s been a while since I was there and it will forever be imprinted in my mind as the most intense exercise in pure concentration. I’ve seen many a Gold Wing pilot run up and down the nearby Blueridge Pkwy, completely smoking hotshot sportbikers. Lean angles achieved are impressive as is corner exit acceleration.
How do the newer ones compare, especially in light of the weight reduction?
Watches video then looks on ebay for how much goldwings sell for
I’ve watched so many of your videos, I could find my way around your area no problem.
I had a 2010 Goldwing. I sold it and I am now working on getting the new version. 2018-up Apple plug n play is awesome on new Goldwings.
I'm 41, and I ride a 78 GL1000 Goldwing. Kinda not young, and my Wing is a "naked" Wing.
I just bought a 2007 Goldwing today!!! I pick it up this Saturday. I hope my two Harleys dont mind.
Never ridden a Goldwing but I sure would like to keep up the great video Sean
I love my Goldwing my first one was a 1981 gl1100 cafe racer my current bike is a 1990 gl1500 a lot of people underestimate the goldwing they put out more power than I thought
Which do you prefer more the 1500 or the 1800 just curious
as for the handle grip its made to give you comfort and a little break on your hand
that is if you ride long riding or long distance
its much more comfy on your palms and fingers you just not used to it thinking you wont be able to handle the bar properly
but look at you after few minutes u not talking about it anymore
After 26 bikes I got a newer Goldwing. My wife didn’t want a “seniors bike”, even though we’re in our early sixties. We had just recently put 150,000 kms on a BMW 1150 RT and loved it but it was a bit cramped for two up and all our gear. The Wing has been a revelation and she loves the Lazy Boy chair in the back. Not too fond of the brand new Wing though. It has lost some of its practicality. I like the new steering system and six speed tranny but that’s about it.
Agreed on those grips. I thought they looked cool and bought some but took them off right away once I felt them on the bike.
Old guy, big bellied? Hey, I represent that remark!
I have a Chicago scooter company go. Scooter 49cc. It's a dream of mine to get a newer model of the goldwing.

How many miles can you expect before trouble starts surfacing ? Looking at a 2015 with 36,000 on it ,excellent condition .near perfect
Goldwings are almost indestructible with 36k milles must be still like new.
Followed two old guys on gold wings through shady valley Tennessee one time throwing sparks and having a blast. Made me really think about why i'm riding a uncomfortable sport bike for sure. there comfortable, quit and police don't rite you five tickets ever time they catch you having fun.
I'm 23 and I ride a Valkyrie, does that count? 😬
i’m 20 and own a yamaha FJR. best god damn bike ever made.
Then they invented the 2018 and improved handling at the expense of the things the wing used to rule at. too bad.
Just wondering if the Wing you were speaking of on the Tail of The Dragon was yellow in color? If so he holds the fastest time on it yet.
Can’t believe the Bible verse hate. I’m not religious and I don’t believe in church really, but I gotta say I’m surprised how big of an issue that seems to be.
We always stopped our GWs for gas(only)
I’m 27 and on my second Goldwing out of 4 bikes I’ve owned.

Tried it, didn’t like it, now it belongs to a hard core Darksider in Maine. It’s not for everyone! Love the wing though! It’s my 4th.
in 1974 i put a vw tire(4.00x16) on my honda 1971 750cc(yes i changed out stock rear wheel) the tire was a third of the price of a bike tire and lasted twice as long
Did you know there is a double dark? Double dark is a rear tire on the front.

It has carbon wheels and shift cam technology, way more my kind of bike :) I only hope I can get vaccinated before my 70th birthday in 2 months so I can enjoy the summer on it before my arthritis gets too bad.
Sean,
Have those "stupid" grips on my Kawi Vulcan and love them. 50 mile commute one way. The palm swells on the throttle acts like an improvised cruise control.
+GaryGarfole I know I’m the minority in how I feel about those grips tons of people like them. I’m glad you like them also
I got those grips on my bikes for the last 10 years. I feel more comfortable with them because it's cushioned and I can grip better, with or without gloves.
How many miles? How much $?
I think the Honda Goldwing wouldn't look so "old" if you could remove the Saddle Bags and Trunk, is that possible?
That Gl 1800 at Deals Gap is called Yellow Wolf and he regularly beats sport bikes on the Dragon.U can see his Vids here on u tube.

If you ride it, you will like it! (LOVE it.) Good Rides
I am "double dark side". I will never go back to a MC tire on the rear tire !!
