My grandpa had 2 of them from the 80’s. He’s a self employed handyman, and when his Chevy has impounded for not being registered, he used it to pull his 7 by 8 foot trailer for work. He also has a much bigger trailer that his motorcycle, obviously, couldn’t pull. Before he had to sell it when his landlords sold the property he was living on, he sold his gold wings because he needed money to buy a 5th wheel to live in, in the side yard of my uncle’s house. When I was little he would drive me around on his bike, and it was awesome. I think that experience is hey I love touring bikes so much.

i notice a big issue with the new bikes coming out and with this new goldwing, and it has to do with rider distractions, notice how deeply involved it takes to just learn what button does what, and you can watch text messages and youtube videos on it? what ever happened to the older days when a bike had none of this new techno stuff and you just fired 'er up and rode into the wind, no techno, no gadgets, no figuring out what buttons to push while riding, did we forget the real reason for riding into the wind? just sayin'

@@vulcanizer44 in all fairness, when you buy a new car you don't just go out and shoot it for youtube. You read the manual and then make a video showing perspective buyers what everything does. This guy just drops 20 Adrenalin pils, opens it up, exaggerates everything to the max, and then says on camera, "Sorry car guy, I'm just gonna take a right here and I don't know where the indicators are" ! And that folks is what is wrong with youtubers that think they are celebreties.. it's an accident waiting to happen. If you read the manual, you'd know what stuff does. Stuff is complicated so you need to read the manual.. else buy a Harley :(

Trump is a true patriot??? That's bizarre. His life's record is one of selfish, not patriotic behaviour, from faking(buying) his medical record to escape military service, to endlessly choosing self interest over that of his fellow citizens in leaving a trail of bankruptcies that favoured himself, so a selfless patriot he is not.

Yea it's dangerous and yes you may die, but there are only 2 vehicles I have ever seen only happy people on... #1 any Jeep of the CJ/Wrangler family and ANY motorcycle!! If you can keep the bike up on 2 wheels then go for it, if not get a trike and live life while you still can... It's too short any way!!

Alexander Weaver I bought one of these new this year, I wanted to go from Phoenix to Charlotte NC to visit my son. The stock seat hurt like heck after 200 miles. You can only carry 20 pounds in each bag, I don’t see how I can carry any camping gear. I’m 65, 6 ft tall and 190 lbs. it will take me 10 or 11 days to get there, currently equipped. GPS is marginal at best, stock AM/FM range is very weak, The XM radio is the cure, I think, but that’s 200 dollars for the antenna, a subscription, and 2.5 hours to install it.

its funny to see how people bash a bike because its competitor to the bike they own. most haven't even rode the bike and bashing it. No its not perfect and no bike is. Its the person who owns there bike who thinks there bike is perfect for them. we are bike riders, and for me all bikes I have owned I loved, maybe not loved by others, but loved by me, and thats all that matters.

I'm glad you enjoyed the ride, I rode the DCT I couldn't stand it! It was cold and I was underneath a full face helmet, can't hear the radio at all at highway speeds! I have Android so all car Apple stuff's gone, everybody watching might want to check out my 8500 review on the F6B, yeah no bells and whistles, but those things get old, and if you're not a huge cross-country Rider, you will not use half of the stuff, my phone does everything the apple carplay does and more! I like the madstad windshield better than the up and down windshield on the DCT, but the worst thing about the DCT is yeah, you can't pull in the clutch and glide! Impossible, that's a big part of my ride, the DCT just never match up Shifting the way I wanted it to on any mode. Everybody watching please absolutely take a test ride before you go out and order one. If I was in the market I would buy a 2016 F6B with a couple thousand miles on it, you can get one for around $13,000 now, almost a third of the price, and a great bike! Is there a lot of people that love these bikes, and yes there are a lot of pluses to this by, the maneuverability with the rear trunk, feels just like my F6B, which is totally different than the GL 1800, so I don't want to trash your review, but for me the F6B is King!

Sorry I should adjust my earlier comment, sometimes he wears those in videos but I'm not sure if the are gardening gloves or not. Although I have seen gardening glove like that. As for protection they seem to be adequate enough to keep most of your skin on but you could probably break your wrist still. As for whether or not he has knowledge of bikes, I give him benefit of doubt; after all he runs a motorcycle dealer. As for suggesting dangerous behavior he seemed to be joking and in support of hand free cell phone use. As for turn signals he doesn't use them much at all in other videos. He can use hand signals legally as well so it's not that bad that he doesn't know where the switch is. He should signal though.

On the DCT model, walking forward and back is not 'electrically' powered. It is engine powered. On the manual shift new Goldwing, you have the electric motor doing walking reverse duty. No walking forward mode (on the manual shift model) probably because it's so easy to feather the clutch in first gear to accomplish that. // Do not worry about the DCT 'shifting at the right time'. I own the DCT model (Tour) and the transmission is always there. Always. Remember, the DCT is not truly an automatic. An automatic has a torque converter. Lossy until you get to cruising speed and then a good torque converter will lock up to efficiently transfer all engine torque. The DCT has two dry clutches; one shifts the odd-numbered gears and the other shifts the even-numbered gears. No single lossy torque converter taking care of all gears. In this arrangement, one clutch is engaged and the other is ready in an instant to switch you to the next gear. It's faster than you can do it manually and the DCT is always keeping your RPM at its best. BTW, the DCT has 7 forward gears whereas the manual has 6. The Tour mode is for daily driving but the Sport mode will pin your ears back! The Rain mode disengages the Torque Control to lessen the possibility of the rear tire slipping on acceleration. // You can manually shift the DCT at any time; the plus and minus paddles on the left handlebar will do that. You can choose to up or downshift while in Drive (automatic) mode or you can switch to Manual mode and do all the shifting yourself. Also, you can optionally get a toe shifter. You still don't have a clutch lever, but you can let your left foot do all the shifting if you want. Even when shifting manually, the DCT won't let you over-rev the engine; it'll downshift automatically when you return the throttle to idle to slow down for a stop. Back Roads Wingrider talks about his DCT being in the shop a lot; I experienced that as well when I first purchased my '18 DCT Goldwing. It was about number 174 off the assembly line. The DCT would often grind its gears on acceleration, and at other times dump (kill) the engine on acceleration. After a week in the shop, the dealer, on my request, gave me a full refund toward another, new, DCT Tour. My second bike was about 1500 units further down the assembly line and has been perfect so far with 2300 miles on the bike. // If you are using the built-in navigation to route you on your trip and you stop to refuel and shut down the bike, the Nav will resume where you left off when you restart the bike. // About the Nav and Apple Car Play; I'm an Apple user and it was a strong feature to me to have Apple Car Play, but trying to use Apple Maps on the Goldwing is maddening if you're using it only to see where you are. Maps will auto zoom until you're crazy. So, I use Honda Nav for a stable look to follow me and Apple Maps only when it's routing me. You can't import routes to Apple Maps and the Honda Nav can only take 8 waypoints and that's including the start and ending points. Only six waypoints in between. // The new front suspension is phenomenal! The front tire moves vertically (instead along the rake line (angled) and the vertical suspension is LINKED to the handlebars. That means, you can watch the two connectors at the top of the suspension on either side of the central keypad go up and down, but the motion is not transferred to the handlebars. The front suspension is phenomenal. Wait. I said that already. // I need to mention one unforeseen feature that I truly like. First, I have to tell you I've never owned or ridden a Goldwing before this new '18 model I just bought. You cannot imagine my joy at realizing that the side mirrors are fixed and I can always see directly in back of me when backing out of a parking space. Especially when a bunch of us riders are parked together and everyone is maneuvering out of their parking spaces at once. I'm really excited about fixed side mirrors! // I disagree with Srkcycles about this new Goldwing making all previous models obsolete. For me, yes, but that's only because I never rode previous Goldwings. The new Goldwing is my first and only Goldwing experience. I've done a lot of reading on Goldwings since buying the new one and I'm seeing the trend that previous Goldwing riders prefer the comfort of the previous models and those new to the Goldwing experience like the new design. I fall into the latter group. I always heard about the great Goldwing ride but previous models were just too damn big for me. The '18 redesign, for me, is the Goldilocks model; it's just right. That first '18 Goldwing I owned that I mentioned above? The one with the transmission problems? It was USED because a guy traded in his '17 Goldwing for the '18 Goldwing but found the new one too small for his liking and traded it back in with 1800 miles on to go back to a '17 Goldwing. I got his used bike. But, then it had the transmission problems and the dealer cancelled my first buy so I could get a new model off the showroom floor and it has been perfect. Finally, it's not perfect, but it's imperfections are mostly electronic and small irritations. The bike itself is the best thing I've ever experienced on two wheels by a large margin. I'm so over-the-top happy with my 2018 (red) Goldwing Tour DCT I can't wait to get on it every day. And, I'm a guy that went through three Harley's and two Indians in the last four years looking for the perfect ride. I love the smooth power of the flat six, the incredible DCT transmission, the weight and balance and the look of the 2018 Goldwing. It's just a joy to ride. I do have some dislikes but nothing about the overall look and feel of the bike. It's genius engineering. The software has some glitches and adding accessories is way overly complicated and very expensive to install when you're paying shop labor. I have to pay shop labor because the disassembly of the bike to install the simplest of accessories is way beyond my confidence level. I do not understand, for example, why Honda didn't include HomeLink buttons. It's a basic need, and a grand touring bike like the Goldwing should have that when you buy it. Anyway, I've gone on long enough. Don Smith ShooterSmith.com.

A lot of new gadgets don’t make up for the disappointing feeling you experience as each gear grabs you as you decelerate. I guess I’m too used to pulling in the clutch and rolling out..... Change is necessary to keep demand up but I think Honda should stick with a true touring bike (2000 cc- yes!!)

You can manually select gears on the DCT. I have a Honda CTX with a DCT and I never use the automatic modes. What is great about the DCT is full throttle upshifting, which is one reason so many supercars like Ferrari's have a DCT. No need to come off throttle to upshift- wide open throttle and just banging upshifts. My only complaint is that the CTX redlines at only 6400 rpm-- I wish it wrapped out further before I bang that upshift. But I shift my bike all the time- just use a button instead of a lever on a cable. Don't miss a clutch lever at all.

People like to live in the past. Honda hit a home-run with this bike. Although some aficionados of this bike are still holding onto the road sofa it was and will complain about it not being big enough. If they give this bike a test ride, it will put a smile on your face. It is a beast. If it doesn’t you’re not breathing, means your dead without life. Agree on your take of this bike. Rode both manual 6 speed and 7 speed DCT. Both are exceptional handling and silky smooth. Serious silk. I’ve got a 2015 GL1800 and am waiting for the 2019’s so Honda can work through any GPS issues I’m hearing. Otherwise a phenomenal bike. Naysayers are many and probably are just jealous.

I couldn’t disagree more. The Goldwing is a touring bike. From Honda Website “The 2018 Gold Wing is designed to push the limits of what a touring bike can be. And expand the adventure beyond anything imagined.” I see a Goldwing S model yes, but what about the old Valkyrie or true touring model like the GL1800? Honda got an OK, yet very expensive bike, that will be totally redesigned in 2020 for more luggage, locks, better GPS, suspension, and more plush for the touring crowd/legacy customers with retirement money. Honda should have done that initially.

Road Glide Whether its overall "better" isnt the central topic. There have been many many many many "better" bikes than the goldwing. But the gold wing was different. It had unique offerings that no other bike offered. And now it no longer has those offerings. So now those traits are extinct from thr market. They shouldve kept making the real goldwings, and then ALSO make this "goldwing" thing.

A carb has what 2 or 3 jets. The gas hangs above it in a tank and gravity, which is free, propels it thru the carb to the intake valve where it mixed with air, explodes and creates power. Simple right. Not a whole lot that can go wrong. Tricks and treats are nice till they stop working so unless that comes with a life time warranty I'll pass and stay with my fxr. If it stops I can make it go again.

The forward/reverse creep does NOT operate off an electric motor as you state. It works by slipping the clutches electrically. When you pressed the + - button to initiate the forward/reverse creep, did you hear the engine rpm increase? That's to allow the clutches to slip without stalling the engine. The manual trans new Goldwing uses an electric motor (the integrated starter/generator) to power the reverse mode. Warning: do not use the forward/reverse creep on the DCT excessively, as the clutches slipping will overheat the DCT oil, causing a warning light to illuminate, and you'll have to shut off the bike to allow the DCT oil to cool off.
