    Sorry everyone, our sound cut off at 14:23 - 15:01. Ivana was saying how she was surprised by Iași because she thought it would be in the middle of nowhere. But in fact, it’s a very lively city with tons of happening around. Ivana loved the vibes of Iași.❤️🇹🇩

I am glad you visit my city, from your first video în România i wondered if you ll visit Iași. Iași is not a town since it has over 360,000 inhabitants which makes it 1/3 of Stockholm population or if in Sweden it would be the 3rd city after the capital and Göteborg.

    Hey Steve, just few historical facts. Romania was build in 1859 when Wallachia and Moldavia (two old Romanian countries) selected the same leader (Alexandru Ioan Cuza). The first name was United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia. In 1866, a new constitution was adopted and the name was changed in Romania. In the same year, Romania elected her first king, Carol the First (from the German family of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen). In 1877, after a war against Ottoman Empire, allied with Russia, Romania obtained his independence. Unfortunately, Russia showed his intentions when they choose to keep the eastern part of Moldova. Romania obtained in 1878 Dobruja. In 1918, at the end of the WWI, Romania obtained Transylvania and also the actual country of Moldova. In 1940, Romania lost the northern part of Transylvania to Hungary and the actual country of Moldova to USSR. After the WWII, Romania regain the Transylvanian regions but the eastern part of Moldova remain under USSR. Today that part in an independent country, Moldova. I will close this with a link to see who was Stephen the Great: ruclips.net/video/CKFhubbLQd0/видео.html. You will like it! Greetings guys!!

      @dracowar6 2 года назад +3

      you are incorrect about the Russians taking Basarabia in 1877. It was stolen by the russian in 1812, when Napoleon "gifted" it, along with other teritories, to Tzar Alexander, in order to suck up to royalty. Napoleon was as bad at reading people, as he was good at war or administration.

    Moldova is one of the three big romanian regions that came toghether to form Romania. Unfortunatly the eastern half of Moldova was captured by the soviets, was heavily russified by bringing people from Siberia, propaganda etc and turned into a republic that is today the country of Moldova.

    • @dracowar6
      @dracowar6 2 года назад +5

      We lost the eastern half to the russians in 1812 when Napoleon gifted it to Tzar Alexander to suck up to him. Literally. He wanted to "have a friend" among the rulers or Europe, so he gave away half of Moldova, among other territories. Exactly like the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact 140 years later.
      After selling Basarabia to the Russians, both napoleon and hilter got exactly what they deserved for playing God.

    I know the Romanian Church canonised Stephen the Great in the early 90s, so he's now Saint Stephen the Great or Stephen the Great and Holy.
    The first king of Hungary is also a Saint Stephen (reigned from about 1000 AD). So you got a classy name right there, Steve.

Also Romanians call Republic of Moldova either Basarabia (from a Romanian prince called Basarab) or Moldova de peste Prut ( the Moldova over the river Prut/Pruth) . Moldavia and Moldovia are foreign names that are not necessarily wrong but they are foreign constructs sometimes used in movies and tv shows by lazy writers/researchers.

    I love how you guys just blend in most of the places and explore them like a local would. Watching the footage where you stand near the old chess players was funny 😄 I remembered how I looked at my grandpa playing in the park with the other retired guys and couldn’t play because I was too young.
    My hometown is Bistrita. If you have the time to visit it there are a lot of impressive things to visit nearby like Colibita (mountains and lake), Bram Stoker Dracula’s Castle (Tihuta Pass), Rodnei Mountains, Schullerwald Park and other small but cozy interesting places.

    A good option to cross the Carpathian mountains from east to west to Cluj-Napoca, is through the city of Piatra-Neamt. In the downtown of this city you will find a clock tower and a church founded by Stephen the Great (15th century), the Cucuteni Museum of Prehistoric Art (painted ceramic objects over 7000 years old) and you can admire the city with a nice cable car that reach a mountain peak. To the west of the city there are the Bistrita and Pangarati monasteries, the Cheile Bicazului canyon, the great Izvorul Muntelui dam and the largest reservoir lake in Romania (Izvorul Muntelui Lake). The city of Piatra-Neamt has been inhabited without interruption for over 7 millennia. It was one of the summer residences of Stefan the Great and it was one of the most important citadel in this part of Europe 2000 years ago. Now is a relatively small size city but it has a very relaxing vibe and is a nice weekend destination.

    The English term for the country you are currently visiting is "Moldavia". The Romanian term is "Moldova". This is valid for the whole area comprising the Romanian and the Soviet occupied eastern part (English term Bessarabia, Romanian term Basarabia) which meanwhile has become the "Republic of Moldova". There's a lot of confusion around the terminology. Even the seemingly officialy established English term "Moldova" is not correct. Former Soviet/actual Russian propaganda as well as ignorant and Russia appeasing Westerners deliberately commit this desinformation and mistake.

    So glad you visited Iași =)) You should return to check inside the Metropolitan Cathedral ( here is the biggest pilgrimage in Romania, on 14 October, so even visiting outside the services you'll find a lor of people. Here are the relicvs of Saint Parascheva or Saint Petka, in slavic languages.) Then you should visit Copou park ( this park is related to a lot of Romanian writers, the most important, Mihai Eminescu - the last romantic composer in Europe, as a fun fact he wrote the longest love poem in the world, Luceafărul which means The Morning Star), Botanical Garden is also very beautiful and is close to Copou park. Then try Frumoasa and Cetățuia Monastery. ( Frumoasa means Beautiful in Romanian❤ and I know at Cetățuia is also a small medieval museum). Btw, at the History Museum you saw a lot of ceramics and prehistoric objects from Cucuteni Culture which is responsible of the Tablets from Tărtăria, Transylvania (some experts say that the letters from these tablets represents an older writing system than Mesopotamian one, so the oldest in the world). Have fun!!❤❤

    If you go out from the Palace park , down the hill to the main road road , across the 4 lane boulevard you will see a small church.
    In front of the church there is a little park. Chess is beeing played there, in the same manner.
    It's like 5 minutes walk from where you are.
