- We explore Breb, quiet and charming village in Maramures, Romania where people maintain their traditional way of life. Most locals still wear traditional dresses, practice wood carving and traditional weaving, and live off the farm.

Mama Delia (I think that's her what her name is) is *roughly* saying she thanks you as well, that it's very lovely to have met you (she says it's a blessing from God), and that she feels as though she's gained another couple of children for herself. Officially Romanian indeed.

@@JetLagWarriors the grapes also were edible. they were grown by somebody, and it's ok if you take some, just don't break the plant or take more then you can eat in that moment :)

Man, seeing all your videos makes me feel home sick of Romania.. But I'm happy for you that you are enjoying every bit of it! Been watching you all this time and you are both getting so Romanianised (your accent and pronunciation is so good and you know so many words and customs from our country) .. Maramures is unique even amongst other Romanian counties. We have those wooden gates, that are pre-Christian, from the time of the Dacians and Thracians. The historical region of Maramures was twice as big, but half of it is in today's Ukraine. Fun fact, the flower patterns are frequent on clothes and embroidery because Maramures is know as the plane of flowers "MARAMURES PLAI CU FLORI". Have a good one and be safe.

Living in a tropical country, it amazes me how you can just randomly pick apples or grapes on the street! Lol we do have mangoes and bananas here though

Aww....so cute Steve Ivana! Ivana is like a doll, so adorable in the Romanian dress! Steve is so macho! Makes me laugh ! the host lady is so loving....and yeah, that's how I felt when Steve and Ivana was at my home..."that it's very lovely to have met you- blessings from God". And I love the nature walk around the neighbourhood, the apple tree, the grapes, lovely houses..
.I thought of apple pie to make but no apples grow in the tropics, and expensive in the supermarket. Reminds me of the wild apple tree in Canada, where I took a bite of it too!..just like Ivana did! Love this vlog!

I'm glad you two are having fun in our country. It is beautiful, indeed.
In romania the traditional clothes are specific for each region of it. There are a a multitude of designs that can vary significantly in just a couple of hundred km area. The one you wear, it s specific to Maramures region. Travel back to northern Moldavia or to souther Romania and you'll see very diffrent ones.

We guys are so blessed by being born in Romania. You all might not realise it but even the school system is great. We are 2 years ahead if we compare what we learn to USA and one year ahead if we compare to England, Germany and other European countries.

As a German I do also have traditional Romanian clothing due to my wife is also Romanian but also the people of Moldova also wear those clothes as well because they are culturally the same
Moldovans are romanians, R. Moldova was part of Romania...
We’re not culturally the same, their clothes are way different from ours.

If you have enough time, try to have a day trip with Mocanita (a special old type of train) in Vișeu de Sus ( this village is also the gate to Piatra Rodnei National Reservation)

Those tiny fruits are the fruits resulting from the elderflower trees. That fruits are really nice fruits for jam and they look and taste like berries in the jam.
The elderflower it's called in Romanian "floare de soc" ( singular) "flori de soc" (plural) and the tree is called just simply "soc" but not "şoc"

Welcome to Maramures!!! Make sure you ll visit this must see stunning places: Bârsana Monastery (wooden huge complex in UNESCO), Sighetu Marmației Memorial ( it's simmilar to Auschwitz but here died a lot of Romanian important people during the reign of Communist Regime), Peri Monastery which is the tallest wooden structure in the world and of course The Merry Cemetery from Săpânța ( make sure to have a translate app just to understand the stories from the crosses!! Don t forgey the cross with the story about mother in law =))) )

After you left Maramureș region you can try to go to visit this must see places in Romania: Oradea ( Art Nuveau capital of Romania) and here you can go to Băile Felix/ Felix Spas ( the largest Balneo station in Romania, you can have some days of relaxing here with prices for all pockets), from Oradea, Bears Cave (with one of the oldest bear fossils in Europe) and Scărișoara Glacier Cave ( the second largest underground glacier in the world) can be a good suggestions. Alba Iulia with his huge citadel is also a must see in Romania (it was once the capital of Transylvania and also the place where in 1918 was formed The Great Union). Then you mustn't forgot Medieval Saxon Places which are also in Unesco heritage. Here I suggest you to visit Sighisoara ( the single fortified city in whole Europe which is still inhabited and of course, the birthplace of Dracula). Near Sighisoara are Biertani Fortified curch ( the first Fortified curch which entered in UNESCO), Saschiz Fortified Curch and Dîrjiu Fortified Curch. (Evanghelical, Lutheran and Unitarian curches). Viscri village is maybe the emblem of Saxon Village, Prince Charles being the one who promoveted a lot this place. If you come back to Wallachia, try to visit Medieval Cozia Monastery (is situated on Olt Valley, a beautiful place in Sibiu and Valcea county). Vâlcea is well known for its spa and religious tourism ( maybe Horezu should be on your list, here the ceramics which is recognised as unique in Unesco, traditional boyars houses-"cule ", and monasteries, Hurezi Monastery is also in Unesco).

Different regions of Romania have different traditional clothing, that's why the clothes you are wearing here are different than the yellow one you bought for Ivana. Although I haven't seen much yellow in traditional clothing, it's mostly white.
Those gates and some of the house are over 100 years old. Actually my house is like 60 years old. Romanians love to keep old things. Your clothes are actually a modern version of the old costume. You can tell by the colors usually old ones are a little yellow and the colors are different more comfortable since they were used a lot.

You are amazing. Ivana is so beautiful in a Maramures folk costume. Try dancing the traditional music of Maramures. Visit the merry cemetery and take a walk with the Mocanita (the Romanian forestry narrow gauge steam train).

The "black berries" are elderberries and the sirup made with those berries it's a great immunity buster, it's packed with vitamin C, vit Z and antioxidants. Especially now with the covid going on we take it dayli.
The traditional costumes are different in each Romanian region, you guys look great.😊

That black berries actually are not berries, are the fruit of the elderflowers, which bloom in may, june, and in fall make those berries
yup, not good for eating :D
About "Elderberries", there are not poisonous and have not a strong taste. There are healthy and some people made elderberry jam adding sugar, of course.

Guys go to Mara, there is place where you can eat fresh fish every one from there knows that place, also on to Happy cemetery from Sapanta and to see the houses from Certeze, you will love that places :)
