A lovely tradition for opening day, especially a toast to the river gods
Thanks for watching, the camera messed up during the speech and toast which was annoying but a great day out none the less. Tight lines for the coming season. 👍
You had the weather for it.
On Ballathie for 2 days in Feb, never fished it , fingers crossed.
Its a lovely beat and the ghillies are great crack, you'll enjoy it even if there's no fish. Thanks again for watching Alan 👍
Excellent video tight lines for the 2023 year. May you both catch lots of fish. Bring on the springers.
Tha ks for watching, absolutely can't wait for that first fish. Hopefully we don't need to wait too long. 👍
Absolutely smashing! Wish I was there with you. 👍😁👏👏. Ah yes. Stickfish. I know them well. 😏🤣 🥃🥃
Thanks again for watching, sadly the stick fish was the biggest bit of action but we had a great day out which was the main thing.
I'm always impressed with your casting especially without a back cast possibility, fair play.
Thanks, plenty of casting but not so many fish. Hoping for a good season this year.
Roll on the springers guys… 🎣 best of luck for 2023
Thanks, hopefully one or two around this year. 👍
Nice to see you guys back tight lines for the season ahead.
Thanks Marco, all the best for the coming season 👍
Nice bys, we don't get at the salmon rivers till may 15 i'm countin down the days lol..
Thanks, I know gow you feel I was getting a bit twitchy around Christmas knowing it was just around the corner.
Best of luck for the year ahead 🎣👍
Thanks for watching. Hopefully it's a decent season for all of us 👍
Looks like you had a fun day out. I'm on the lower beauly on the opening day looking forward to it. Tight lines for the season.
Thanks Toby we did, enjoy opening day. Don't drink as much Gin as I did 🤣
@Scottish Outdoor Life I don't think that will be an issue I don't like gin after a night or beer Pong that got carried away when I was in uni 🤣. I also would need to drive back from the fishing so no booze for me.
The old beer pongs got a lot to answer for. I think I might drive next year. 🤔
Nice to get back out for opening day . Are rivers are still clogged with ice and it’s going to get colder for the next couple of weeks . Looking to go do some Tarpon fishing in Mexico , a little break from the Montana cold 🥶 Thanks for the video and happy new year
Thanks Mike, nice to hear from you again. Our rivers rarely get very iced up now. Some of the more Northern and smaller river can suffer from it but not really the Tay. I caught a Tarpon in Mexico on the fly about twenty years ago. It was great fun and I'd love to do it again. Good luck for your trip and happy new year 👍
@@scottishoutdoorlife thanks🥃
After a bit of advice on the 110s do you manage to get the distance ok with them, because 13 grm does'nt seem enough for long casts?
Hi John, whilst I'd like to cast them further given the width of the Lower Tay I've always found I can can them far enough to reach some or most of the fish. I use 33lb spiderwire braid on a shimano 6000 baitrunner. So thinnish braid on a reasonable sized spool and that does the job. What are you casting them from?
@@scottishoutdoorlife thanks for reply, i have'nt had a chuck with one yet just got a couple of ebay and noticed they only weigh 13grm ive loaded a shimano with some of the daiwa jbraid grand 0.16 22lb, its for lower tweed when i get fed up with hurling a flee with no joy.
It'll be fine if you're not using it too often but I would be careful with that breaking strain of braid for salmon. If it has any imperfection it'll snap. I was using 28lb braid two seasons ago and it was snapping when stuck on the bottom with little pressure.
@@scottishoutdoorlife right good advice i will go up a notch on b.s. then, would hate leaving a treble in a fish, great video' es by the way👍
Glad I might have helped. Thanks for watching them. 👍
