I have been making this for years. Don’t drain the pineapple juice! It adds to the flavor and doesn’t change the consistency of the filing. Instead of slicing butter on top, I melt one stick of butter and mix it with the dry cake mix. It makes a crumble and I simply use my fingers to spread the crumble over the top. This allows for the butter to be more evenly mixed with the dry cake mix. This is a great recipe to make for a quick dessert that looks like you’ve worked for hours on it. Keep the cake mix and canned fruit on hand in your pantry always for a last-minute go to dessert. Quick, easy, and tastes delicious!
I make this with the pineapple juice included. It makes for a delicious moist texture topping and I also put pecan pieces all over top of mine. I pour the melted butter over the top before adding the pecans. One of the best desserts you'll eat.
YOUR'S IS LIKE MINE,BUT MY AUNT ALWAYS ADDED A THIN LSYER OF SHREDDED COCONUT ON TOP OF THE FRUIT ........BUT EITHER WAY YOU WANT TO DUMP THIS IS A WINNER❤❤❤
When my Grandma Dot/Micro Dot as we called her, passed away…..All I got from her estate was a shipped box of broken glass ware, photos, letters, and her hand written recipes….That’s what I asked for….The things no one else wanted….But I did. They didn’t wrap the glassware…just threw it in that box….I don’t care it was glass…. I get a laugh and a precious memory of my Sweet Micro Dot every time I make one of her hand written stained paper recipes….. They have Her Things…I have Her.💜💜💜
One of my family’s faves. I double the cherry pie filling and I don’t drain the pineapple sometimes 2 sticks of butter. So easy and people think it’s hard to make
I make this often for my husband and his coworkers (at their request). What I do differently is I don't drain the pineapple, and shredded coconut and chopped walnuts to the top. Definitely an easy dessert that is much loved. 🍍🍒🥥
My Auntie Jean, my Mama’s best friend taught us to make this as well. But she had us leave the pineapple juice in. Then she had us put chopped pecans on top of the cake mix. Then follow with the pieces of butter like you. It’s definitely a family favorite for any holiday.
Me too I left the pineapple juice and I used two sticks of butter the first stick I cut thinner much thinner all over the last stick I melted just enough to go all over the cake to make sure that butter was completely distributed
My Sister only one I had left just passed away in May 25th, 2022. She loved you Paula had your cookware, and the recipes she used alot of yours. She was such a Great cook and I'll always miss her. She was 23 years older then I. 85 when she passed. I see you I think of her!! Doesn't have much to do with cooking, I just wanted you to know how much she like you!! Thank You Paula Dean
Double the cherry pie filling and use chocolate cake mix mmmmmm, also I use 2 big cans of peaches and make it the same and I also put brown sugar on top the combinations are endless.
Paula , YOU honey are the best cook out there !! Bless your heart 💜 you remind me SO MUCH of my grams , she also knew love was shown through butter and baking 🥰. Raised 6 kids during depression and they NEVER went hungry ! Thank you very much for gently reminding me how much love goes into preparing for the family , cause you never know who they will bring home to eat 👍. You ROCK !
Add some ice cream caramel topping or even squares of caramel in the Apple filling and then finish it off with cinnamon roasted pecans on top I bet that would taste delicious especially in the fall!
I like to freeze my butter for a couple of hours then grate it into the cake mix. Stir it in well then spread it out on the fruit. for special occasions I'll add some cream cheese along with the butter. Freeze it and grate it just like you do with the butter. You could leave the butter out but it's butter and we all know butter makes it better. Gotta say I love watching Miss Paula cook. Reminds me of the way my mom cooked.
I make the dump cake differently. Put 1 can Crushed Pineapple including the juice in the bottom of a 9 X 12 baking pan. Spread it as evenly as possible. Use 2 cans of Cherry Pie Filling on top of the pineapple.Spread it evenly over the Pineapple. Dump the dry contents of a Yellow Cake Mix over the Cherry Pie Filling, and level it out so it covers everything. Take 2 sticks of Cold Butter and cut them into pats and place them on top of the cake mix. Bake at 350°F until golden brown. + or - 60 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack for 1 hour before cutting. I've had this recipe since the 1970's and it's the best!
I don't know how big the rock is that I've been living under, but in six decades (+) I have never heard of a dump cake. I love cherries and pineapple. I have a random box of devil's food cake and some frozen blackberries. The wheels are turning.😋
About 57 years ago I had my first cherry pineapple dump cake from a stepmother. I never had the recipe but I’m so glad I found it. Thank you for posting it. I’m going to make one for my daughter-in-law today for Mother’s Day.!
Paula, you are still the best. I have to say I have lost interest in Food Network. You Tube is where it’s at for cooking. Please don’t ever stop. You are a star in my show! ❤️
Paula, I love your cooking and would always enjoy watching you cook and listening to your Southern accent, "back in the day". I've never made a dump cake before, but this one will be the first one I try!🤤🎂🥰 I might even make this for my dad's 75th birthday, in August. I was thinking of making pinneapple-upside down cake, but this recipe might be it!👍😍
Some people I know who like to make dump cakes like this one melt the butter and drizzle it on top before baking. My sister-in-law used to make dump cake. They really are a quick and easy way to make a nice dessert that everyone loves.
I remember the first time i ever had this. 1980……Memorial Baptist Church in Murray Ky invited college students for a potluck. My soroity sisters and i went and decimated the cherry/pineapple dump cake. Best thing Id ever eaten. 37 years later….it is my adult childrens ( and my) favorite dessert.
This has always been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I always left the pineapple juice in and topped with chopped walnuts. Definitely brings back memories.
I’ve made this one for years. It’s also good with some chopped pecans on top. I really like this made with blueberry pie filling as well. We always have it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This is a good one to take to a potluck..
Been making this all my life but: I use TWO cans cherries, add one can of pineapple tid bits to the crushed pineapple and throw some sliced almonds on top :)
I also make this with part of the pineapple juice. Also, I melt the butter ...and pour it on top.....of pecans and coconut I put over the cake mix. I adore this too....been making it for years! I serve it with whipcream.
I have been making this cake since I was in my early 20’s back into the mid 1970s. I always added pecans on the top as well as always cut the butter and placed on top. It is great with ice cream.
Yes! Pecan! Making one now. Was gonna make it at Thanksguving, then Christmas. I made one like 12 years ago! I drained the pineapple, hope it turns out right.
I make a cherry pineapple dumb cake. I don't drain the pineapple. Dump cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple in a 9x13, sprinkle with coconut, spread cake mix on top, sprinkle with chopped pecans, then pour melted butter over the top, bake 350 for 35 to 45 minutes. I got my recipe from a dear friend as a wedding gift from a handmade book with many great recipes from her family for me to try. Best gift ever!!!! Lol. My pineapple recipe was & is titled, "Better Than Sex Cake". Yes, you read right, lol. I don't know why, but it is. I was embarrassed at first, haha! Mine calls for: 1 Moist Duncan Hines butter or yellow cake mix (baked first) then poke holes with toothpick all over. Take 1 can of Dole crushed pineapple( no draining) & 1 cup of sugar boiled together, dissolving all sugar Pour pineapple mixture over top of cake making sure to even out on top of cake Let cake cool & cover Then get 1 large box of instant vanilla pudding( mix & put in fridge until it sets) After vanilla pudding has set and chilled, then pour onto top of cake, even out pudding Last step, use a large container of cool whip to spread over the entire cake This will melt in your mouth & cool you off at the same time!! Lol. Enjoy! Thanks, for sharing Paula!!! Much love from Winder, Georgia,♡ Joy Carey P.S.--- If anyone tries this recipe, please let me know how much u enjoyed it! Thanks!
@@lisam7511 Lol, I had to look up poke cake. Yes, I guess it is similar with just a couple extra layers. Thanks, for letting me know! It is so good and moist.
Paula, I’m from Texas and we make this same dump cake with the addition of chopped pecans on top of the fruit…you should try it that way since you love nuts so much! Delish!!!

Paula! I watched you on Master Chef and it was such a thrill. I get such a kick and enjoy every time I see you on any screen. Love and best dishes ! 💜💜💜
My mom used to make this same thing. She got the recipe back in the 80s. The only difference was she added pecans to it, and sometimes coconut and didn't drain the pineapple. It was really popular in the 80s & 90s. So easy to throw together and really good.
I make a dump cake with peaches yellow cake mix and butter. I put the peaches in the bottom of the pan top it with the cake mix and. It with butter and then bake it
My family have been making this as well. The original recipe for this, using the butter not melted was originally on the Jiffy Cake Mix boxes, I think in the 60's. At least that is when I remember making and eating it with Grandma. It's great! Better when cooled off, the top gets crunchy 💖
Great reciepe! We served it with chocolate syrup it tasted like a chocolate covered cherry treat! ;). Love your shows. We enjoyed the banter you, Theresa & Eddy have in the videos. I learned that you melt the butter+mix it with the cake mix, then layer it over the fruit, turns out better,no dry pieces, plus it's easier to make peaks+decorate it nice
Easy simple dessert... I've made it and added shredded coconut flakes. Delish. I place a dish towel under my wobbly cutting board.... Darn thing wants to dance a jig as I cut veggies....butter...etc..😅😅
This dump cake is one of my favorites and yes ice cream on the side or whipped cream is phenomenal...glad you made this recipe and yes I leave the juice in too :)

I'll bet the addition of coconut tastes great. Maybe for a tropical twist, omit the cinnamon and add a bit of rum extract to the pineapple, kind of like a Pina colada! I think I may try that! Oh, and macadamia nuts!
I make an apple dump cake, made with canned apple pie filling, this is dumped into a batter of flour, sugar, oil, eggs, nuts, cinnamon, vanilla ,raisins if you want. Make a cream cheese icing.
I love fried pies too, Miss Paula! This cake looks pretty darn good and i agree with Theresa, ice cream on this would be excellent! Thank you to Sean for sharing his grandmama's recipe and thank you, Miss Paula, for sharing the recipe with us. Love and best dishes to you !
I keep the pineapple juice in the recipe. I also melt the butter & mix with the cake mix. It is evenly distributed throughout the cake. I also sprinkle powdered sugar on top when cooled to make a nice appearance. Or crushed walnuts on top b4 I bake it.
What's your favorite dump cake recipe?
You ever take a dump in a mug?
sometimes i do strawberry, blueberry and apple cinnamon with caramel sauce 😋
I've made a dump cake using apple pie filling, a little cinnamon and a spice cake. Do it just like you do a cherry-pineapple dump cake.
Pumpkin Dump Cake
When I use canned cherries, I always put a Tablespoon of sugar, & a teaspoon of Almond extract, no matter what recipe I'm making

I love the fact that you enjoy learning about other people’s ways of doing things! That makes you extra sweet!😉🤗
Hello dear friend how are you doing today and it’s a cloudy day over here and how is it over there ❤
Love Miss Paula’s spice drawer 😍 I have a full cabinet with nothing but spices that have spilled out.. my family makes fun of me for it.This makes me feel validated I’m doing it right!
Making this tonight! I’ve never made a dump cake. 😊
My sister used to make this exact dump cake back in the late 60s/early 70s. Yummy!
This looks soo good. Want to try this. Have always liked sweets from childhood to old age. I guess that makes me a sweety.
i made alot of these- and found out pecans is a great addition!!-it completes the cake!!

Yummy!!

Paula, you look fantastic, so thin, I’m trying this cake, looks delicious
I make this one quite a bit! I add coconut, walnuts, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Its divine!
I'll bet the addition of coconut tastes great. Maybe for a tropical twist, omit the cinnamon and add a bit of rum extract to the pineapple, kind of like a Pina colada! I think I may try that! Oh, and macadamia nuts!
I'm going to try pineapple and blueberry pie filling.
Hi there Paula. I've been making dump cakes for about 35 years now. So easy to make and tasty too.
I make an apple dump cake, made with canned apple pie filling, this is dumped into a batter of flour, sugar, oil, eggs, nuts, cinnamon, vanilla ,raisins if you want. Make a cream cheese icing.
I love making this cake!! 🍽😋🍷😊
Hello dear friend how are you doing today.......you really love baking cake and I know you love it too
I do love a good dump cake thanks for sharing
I love fried pies too, Miss Paula! This cake looks pretty darn good and i agree with Theresa, ice cream on this would be excellent! Thank you to Sean for sharing his grandmama's recipe and thank you, Miss Paula, for sharing the recipe with us. Love and best dishes to you !
This is always a popular dish for potlucks. Personally I am not a fan of it but I like to make it for potlucks. So easy and everyone loves it. 😊
Never made a dump cake. I will follow this Recipe!
I mix my cake mix & melted butter together and make a dough & pinch it up on top. So much better.
oh how I love dump cakes! This one sounds delicious and yes a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream… Yum!
Paula, I miss your absolutely beautiful "old" kitchen !!!!!!!
I keep the pineapple juice in the recipe. I also melt the butter & mix with the cake mix. It is evenly distributed throughout the cake. I also sprinkle powdered sugar on top when cooled to make a nice appearance. Or crushed walnuts on top b4 I bake it.
Looks yuummmmy. I’m glad I cook alone, because I would be lickin’ the spatulas 😋🤣
Grammy Pegs cake looks so incredibly delish.
It is also good with blueberry pie filling with chopped pecans layered before the butter. Enjoy your cooking videos.
