I made this today, Im a single dad and its the second desert Ive ever made, first was banana pudding last week. Anyway I used 2 boxes of cake mix and put 1 on the bottom, came out great....my son loves it!!! Thank you for posting

Best dump cake recipe I've seen by far- mixing the butter and cake mix into crumbles to avoid powdery spots is just genius. I'll be making mine with cherry pie filling and add a dash of almond extract. Thank you!!

Mixing the melted butter with the cake mix first is genius!! Normally you put the cake mix on and then pour the butter over it and it just runs everywhere. What a great idea!!
My mom and I make dump cake with a pumpkin pie filling layer at the bottom, then a sweet cream cheese layer and the dump cake layer on top. Its absolutely incredible

I use cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple together, it’s delicious. Also blueberry with the pineapple is awesome also.

You can also use two different pie fillings in a 13x9-in cake pan like strawberry on one half and blueberry on the other half. That way whomever doesn't want straw berry can have blueberry and whomever doesn't like blueberry can have strawberry!😋 Or a little of both 😍

I added a bit of crushed graham cracker and butter mixture in the bottom of the pan, and a bit more on top of the cake crumble, and WOW!
A perfect compromise when you don't have time to make a cheesecake cheesecake!

My favorite dump cake is cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple drained...and I always add chopped pecans to the dry cake mix before I add the butter.... yummy.

My family always did cherry pie filling with crushed pineapple and pecans on tops
I've been making dump cakes for years. Since making it the first time, with the standard instruction of putting pats of butter over the dry cake mix, I've been melting two sticks of butter and stirring in my mix. Then I spread it over the top and it comes out like cake on top, pie on the bottom. You're the first person I've seen who has mixed your butter in. I subbed! Blessings all!!!!

And I must say a fabulous idea! I loved the idea of the dump cake, just didn't like the dry patches of cake mix! This solves that nicely! And the cream cheese layer! Yum!
Adding in melted butter to the cake mix for the crumble layer is so much better than putting the dry mix on top of the pie filling, with pats of butter on top of that. Your version works, while the way I was taught never did, so I was giving up.

I never thought about adding the cream cheese, great idea! I make mine dump cakes in a cast iron skillet covered in foil, can be done when camping over your low fire while eating, about then done eating, cake is done, been doing this over 30 years with Girl Scouts, mixed all types of cakes and fillings, apple sauce and spice cakes are a favorite of ours!! Enjoy expecting everyone!!

That’s a great idea! I like to make dump cakes in my Dutch oven. I get my fire going out back, drink some beverages, and eventually have enough hot coals to bake. I’ve used several different pie fillings, peach, blueberry, apple….. adding the whipped cream cheese is a great idea! I can’t wait to try it 😎

Just popped in the oven! This is my third time making this recipe. I had a carton of whipped cream cheese about to reach the best by date so I thought it a good excuse to whip up a pan! Each time I’ve used blueberry filling because it’s my favorite. And instead of two cans, I spread one can on the bottom of the pan, then layer with the whipped cream cheese, and then sprinkle 11-15 oz fresh blueberries over that, and then the crumble. I don’t care that it is winter, you can’t beat fresh berries! I also add some freshly ground nutmeg and a splash of vanilla to the crumble. And always yes to the ice cream! 😋

Hi Catherine, I just saw this recipe yesterday. I already had 3 cans of blueberry pie filling on hand. I had to run to the store to get the whipped cream cheese and I used a french vanilla cake mix, which I had this on had as well. I must say, of all the dump cakes I've made (which has been many), this was the most delicious one of all. However, my next one will be your strawberry dump cake because strawberries is my very favorite fruit. I'll probably make one for Thanksgiving this month. I'll let you know which I liked the best. I love you channel,, you always come up with a regular recipe most of us have but you've added different things that puts it up over the top!.. Thanks, keep up the GREAT work. Ditto. I've seen the "dump cake-mix, put down glops of butter, hope everything melts'n'mixes in the oven" method, and this seems more evenly distributed and consistent.
I'd be tempted to sprinkle some brown sugar on the top to maybe have it crust-over like flan or something.

Black Forest hot cheesecake! I understand what you mean when you added the butter to the white cake mix less powdery but it kind of looked burned where you couldn't tell on the chocolate. It's two days before Valentine's Day so will make it I'm just going to cut up my 8 ounce slab of cream cheese. Into butter.like squares. It will melt anyway. Thanks again

I think Philadelphia makes a cheesecake filling that you can buy in a container. That might work even better. Or kind do your own cheesecake. I don't think straight cream cheeses would work as well. My favorite topping with cheesecake is fresh fruit. I've got a blueberry pudding cake recipe that I've had forever. The idea is similar come only it's cake instead of a crumble. Might be interesting to incorporate some sort of cheesecake filling with that.

😋My fave topping is seedless BLACKBERRY jam or pie filling, slightly blended w whole-milk RICOTTA CHEESE!! I put this on top of my cheesecake when it's done. Swirls of gorgeous tints & shades of purple w white, variations of degrees of flavor from bite to bite, complementing the taste of cheesecake instead of overpowering it (the problem w topping cheesecakes...to me). Sometimes I use whipped blueberry or strawberry cream cheese🍰. To cake crumbles (w real butter) I like to add dark brown sugar w vanilla or a bit of Amaretto 😋, sometimes flaked coconut. When done, drizzle caramel, homemade w brown sugar, real butter, & a touch of Southern Comfort or Capt. Morgan's Spiced Rum ❣️😋❣️😋❣️

This looks so scrumptious that I decided to make it. The strawberries that you have look so beautiful, maybe with food coloring, but looks are everything. I could not find your brand so I bought what I found which was Compton. They have an unappetizing brownish color. Used it anyway and it’s now in the oven. Hope it comes out as delish as yours looked.

Hi Catherine. I just finished watching your strawberry dump cake/cream cheese cake video. A friend of mine already gave me this same recipe with one exception. She added 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1 tsp of cinnamon to the pie filling. It was fabulous. I know yours would be fabulous without these 2 ingredients. I love the idea of mixing the butter in the cake mix. I've tried the dump cake recipe's where you poor the melted butter or you cut it in tiny slices and add on top but it never can out crispy enough to me. Some spots were soggy. But your's look crispy all over. I bet cherries with chocolate cake mix would be delicious. Like a chocolate covered cherry candy. My favorite is cherry.

Bluebell's Homemade Vanilla tastes the closest to homemade vanilla ice cream. It is the best. I am born and raised in California and unfortunately haven't been to Texas in years to be able to buy any.

The thing I really love about this is that the butter is incorporated into the cake mix already, instead of laying pads of butter on top before you bake it. When I made them in the past, they generally come out with concentrated pockets of butter.
I hope this version works better for you. I like putting them together first.
Yes I need to try this method but I think it’s easier to just lay it on top since you’re supposed to “dump” it together

You're the first person I've seen to actually melt the butter and do a crumble!..most say to just dump the cake mix and add butter to the top(I always get a mushy mess 😖) I'm going to give this a try!..I wonder if I could do a crumble/crust on the bottom too🤔...I love crumble/crust 😊

That sounds so delicious with the strawberries or cherries. I make the dump cakes and every one lives them. I made what I call my black forest dumpp cake the other day and my son lived it the best so far. I used the cherries the a dark chocolate cake mix then the butter ( sliced and dotted not melted. Oh my gosh the black forest flavor without all the work and mess. Thank God for dump cakes. Takes care of the sweet tooth and visitors without all the work and mess.

My favorite dump cake is a package of frozen peaches and a package of Frozen blackberries. Will definitely melt the butter and mixed with the cake mix next time. Sounds like a great idea. Love the addition of cream cheese, too.

I made this today just ate it.it was amazing .I have to say I have made a few of your dishes and all was great. But I have to stop I was already gained weight because of covid. But making the 3 dishes I gained more weight so sad to say have to stop for awhile. But will keep watching you. It is all wonderful dishes. Yummmmm.

Use a cookie dough scoop for the cream cheese. I’d add fresh strawberries. Great idea to play with.

To make a banana split version, you can add bananas, mini choc chips, or just drizzle hot choc sauce over it, before the ice cream goes on...really good video....you explained the sizes of the cans, box, and containers of ingredients....well done!!
