I was a teen when this movie came out, and it was one of my favorite romantic movies along with How to lose a Guy in 10 days, but….. as I became an adult and rewatched it with my frontal lobe intact, whoah! Mr. Coolson was way out of line. How was this celebrated at a baseball stadium?
I’ve come to realise a lot of these older movies are actually incredibly problematic 😬 I’ve ruined a few of my childhood memories already, but we’re just getting started 🤣
Crazy watching this as a kid. I didnt see how bad it was of course with the teacher liking her, hollywood have a lot of movies where they normalize this. Its no wonder in my late teens early 20s i liked older men.
I just love his reaction to Josie not being 17 Like, you just found out that the underage girl you like is actually of age. Being mad and freaked out about the whole inappropriate student teacher relationship thing is totally fair, but that doesn't come until later. Why he didn't kiss her at the prom when he found out she was of age i will never know.
Watching movies like this after realizing I’m asexual but…wow like when I started to notice compulsory heterosexuality everywhere after realizing I wasn’t romantically straight, you see compulsory sexuality everywhere after realizing you’re ace
It’s jarring! Still cannot believe they romanticised this plot for the sake of making it a romantic comedy. They could have skipped the forced romance and focused on other, more important topics (but try telling that to studios hellbent on turning a quick buck!)
I absolutely loved this film when I was younger, I actually saw it in the cinema (I’m so old) all these years later I’m definitely realising that this just wasn’t right. Probably fuelled loads of girls crushes for their teachers.
I'm old enough to remember when this movie was first released. I saw it when it came on cable. I've always found it a little weird and creepy and not very Romantic™️. Rom coms in the late 90's/aughties were very problematic. Most of them still are. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go rewatch "Evil Dead 2". ☺️
The 90's rom coms are said to be such classics. I was a teenager back then and didn't see the crap in many of the visualisations and realisations of them. Though, I did question most back then having been growning up in the communism and having been severly bullied in middle school. Your critical points are as soothing to my soul as they are a rational scaffolding to my intellect; rightfully on point when you call out all the bullsh*t that passes as 'norm'! Catharthic (!), you are!. Thank you! It is, in fact, better than therapy. I love you for that, Eric.
I went to see this movie in the cinema with my friend, I was 13.. I crieeeddd when the teacher wasn't showing up to kiss his student at this baseball field xD!!! I was thinking he wasn't gonna show up lol. We had terrible terrible movies growing up.. no wonder we all had toxic relationships at some point 🫣

That means a lot, thank you!
It’s so good. It’s so nostalgic, but also…so different watching is as a grown up. Like Grease….oh PLEASE DO GREASE!
I had the same thought! It was recommended to me as well and I was really surprised
