Thank you for these videos. Ive been fishing since I was a little kid, I’m 50 now and my 14 year old daughter is getting into fishing. I basically taught myself the little I know about fishing so these videos have helped me tremendously tying my knots, especially tying on leaders. The high resolution videos, Hi-Vis opposing colored line, and your narrative make learning these knots much easier!

@@justsaying3814 Thank you for the kind words and I’m glad I could help! It’s great to hear that your daughter is getting into fishing. I’m holding onto the hope that at least one of my 3 girls will take interest 🤞

Which is stronger, uni to uni or the alberto to join the 30# braid to 20# floro?

      The Alberto 👌

@dtffishingmi thanks, will 7 wraps up and back with the 30# braid and 20# floro be enough? As I mentioned before, this will be my first season trying something different other than straight braid. I keep records of each trip, time in and out, weather conditions, fish caught, and released but not the got-aways, break offs or the lures used. Just have fun!

@@michaelbeckman1794 yes that will be enough, I almost never deviate from 7 wraps with various line strengths

I wish I could tie an FG knot 😢
Unfortunately my left arm is paralyzed and a double uni/uni to uni is the only knot I can tie for splicing lines together 😭
That being said, I've gotten really good at it and I believe I tie it better than I did 20 years ago before my arm was paralyzed, although I usually tied an Albright back then. I do a lot of rainbow trout fishing nowadays (I've been living in a van and traveling the US for the last 2+ years) and things 2lb and 3lb braid to 2-4lb fluoro can be tricky and frustrating. I always found it a lot easier to turn 20lb braid to 20lb fluoro.

Sorry to hear that - I'm sure knot tying doesn't come easily with the use of only 1 arm. The Uni to Uni served me well for a long time when I got started fishing. One thing that may help with your braid to fluoro connections would be to increase the line diameter of your braid to more closely match the leader. 8 to 10 lb braid would have roughly the same diameter as 2-4 lb. fluoro. In theory, this would help with the strength of the knot and also make it easier to tie the knot, since 2-3 lb braid is tough to manage, especially in the wind.
Nowadays, I still use the Uni to Uni for connecting a fluoro leader to both mono and fluoro - it's really the only knot suitable for a nylon to nylon connection. When I pike fish, I will often attach a 6-12 inch section of 40 lb. fluoro to my 15 lb mono or fluoro mainline to prevent biteoffs.
Thanks for watching and for the comment!

I noticed you went different directions in the wraps. does that matter? I love learning new knots; but not a fisherman.

It’s best to wrap in such a way that both tag ends are being pulled away from the junction. This forces them to slip in opposite directions, making it stronger. I’m not sure it’s actually possible to do it any other way because of the way you form the loops. Hope this helps!

I bet! if you're using very light braid and light leader, I recommend the Alberto knot. That's the one I use for my 6 lb. braid and 4 lb. fluoro leader. I have a tutorial for that one as well.
