@Zissou Moonshot but the vast majority of christians don’t simply look around and say “hmmm, there’s so many christians that it must be true”.
It’s that they are born into families where god, jesus and church are just a way of life. Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night services, Tuesday youth group, Thursday small bible studies in someone’s home, Saturday to the mall or movies with friends from church. People are literally surrounded by the culture and it is completely normal.
In my Texas neighborhood there are about 20 churches within walking distance from my house.
In my city alone there are at least 20 christian high schools. And a major christian university.
It’s not simply the argument from popularity, it’s the reality of every damn thing you ever see revolves around christianity.
Sometimes it’s only until you grow up and leave home... see the world.

You've set the bar far too low if you found that to be an intelligent dialogue... I'm fairly certain it's fundamentally impossible to have an intelligent two-sided conversation about religion because you can't justify the unjustifiable - which is exactly what an appeal to the supernatural is given its unfalsifiable nature: it is out of the scope of what can be explored or demonstrated by definition.

One of the most...hmmm...perplexing...things I find when talking to a theist is that they will present a million arguments for their deity. They will point out all the normal apologetic's, and point to their holy book. They will then claim victory when you say "I'm not convinced". In their mind, it's "You can't disprove me, therefore I'm correct". But...and here is the perplexing part; you can tell them that a different monotheistic religion just used the more or less exact arguments....they point to the same apologetic's, they point to holy scriptures, they point to all the things the first monotheist did. ... ... And you can almost hear the gears of panic go into overdrive for a few seconds before they just blurt out the ol' stand by of "Well, I know what I experienced and I have faith I'm right". ... ... and they are right back to their original "I'm right, and you can't prove otherwise".

Hence, why they eventually end up at the same place they started "My experience...faith I'm right".
      ..
That said...it IS rather fun watching their blank stares as they jump through as many mental gymnastics as they can to think of something, ANYTHING, other than "Well, it's what I believe"...because at that point they are basically saying "Ok, you're right...but I still believe"...just without the first part. ;)

Ironic that Paul was calling from Georgia. It reminded me of a line from Beverly Hillbillies where Granny remarks of "Sherman's Retreat to the Sea"! Paul there did a 20 minute RETREAT to extricate himself from the logic of Phil and Matt. He kept retreating and retreating and retreating, until 'he done fell into the Atlantic Ocean'!

Sometimes i wonder what God obtains from faith that he can't obtain from intelligence. Why does he seem to manifest only to the gullible, ignorant & self-deluded more than to people who seek to know & experience him using the tools of intellect. For an acclaimed intelligent being, he seems to have a strong aversion to intelligence.

I am absolutely sick and tired of hearing this utter bollocks about "intelligently designed this" or "fined tuned that".
Aron Ra has a superb talk all about how life can and did, come from non life. It has been demonstrated in science time and again and so just doing the maths of how many planets and stars and how vast the universe is, why is it so totally unbelievable that just occasionally, life can evolve after abiogenesis?
Massively rare I grant you, but quite obviously NOT impossible.
    . Exhibit A. Earth.
And as for "intelligent". Or " tuned".
99.7 percent of everything ever is now EXTINCT. Genius success rate there.
We can live on ONLY this one planet out of billions we know exist and very little of that one we can live on easily.
What tiny proportion we CAN survive on, we then have poisonous plants, snakes, spiders etc, dreadful diseases, like Covid 19 for example, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes and after all that, other humans, religious usually, wanting to fly us into buildings or blow us up at a concert. Or on a bus or train.
If that's "fined tuned" for us, I'd hate to see what the alternative is.

I’m not, obviously, and no one is “put off” by me until they hear I’m an “atheist”. It’s like that’s a dirty word & makes me a dirty person, do you know what I mean? I guess I need to find atheist people to associate with, which is difficult for an older female I think. The older people get, the MORE likely they are to be “Christians”, I find.
