It's funny how Christians say the Bible is not for private interpretation while giving a private interpretation

    • @dieSpinnt

We should honor the unbeatable logic of our man, Gary. Not only is his argument made (up) with math, based on the carved in stone wisdom of the bible, combined with the unchangeable source of effing HUMAN CALENDER (Despite my eruptive laughter, I immediately recall two calendar reforms named after popes. Oh, and sadly there is no special Wiki article besides in German that shows how arbitrary "Christliche Jahreszählung" = the practice of Christian year count really is ) DESIGN ( The German mathematician Christopher Clavius, who played a key role in the creation of the Gregorian calendar, is even called its ARCHITECT!).
Guys like Gary don't know what they are talking about. They see the world with their horse-blinders and ignore facts and important knowledge right and left. For example: Let's calculate the hours from last Sunday 12h AM to now. That ... will be achievable for us, don't you think?:) But now, lets unquestionably classify the exact time, when (for the purpose of specifying a REAL time in point and not something that was fiddled around by goat-herders ...). Then lets give this a date. Like the 3. April 33. So, WHO specified that date? A contemporary? A historian? Which calender was used? Are we aware, that back in the time, a month or a special day could simply be repeated! May it be for the wonderful reason of collecting MORE TAXES (These Caesars and Dictators had ideas ... hehehe). And so on:) In short: All his "math" is based on BS. And the worst kind of it: RANDOM BS!:)
Have a nice weekend ... oh, think about "repeating months or days" if it is convenient, again!:)))

I disagree. IMO the best way to draw people to a new religion is to offer them something familiar but not the same by altering concepts and rituals until they are still recognizable but not the same. When you've lured them in , you convince them although the 'old religion' is similar to theirs, the others have the wrong version and are thus evil. Any claim on how these rituals or concepts became part of the new religion are at first violently 'discouraged' until enough get the message and then it's simply ignored

Batman most assuredly killed, especially in the 1930s-1940s. Straight up shooting bad guys in the face and hanging people from airplanes and even knocking people out of windows. It was so extreme that he added Robin to the comic to lighten it up and in his very first appearance, Robin kicked a thug off a girder at a construction site.
Superman did his share of killings too before he got reigned in, even as late as the late 80s.
Also, the Greek gods appeared ALL the time to mortals. Just read the Iliad and the Odyssey. Derek is correct, as usual. Mythvision is always a font of good information. Athena even appeared and it’s why we have spiders 🕷️ and Dionysius routinely had bacchanals with mortals and creatures alike.

Understanding the difference between good and evil doesn't mean "death," the story says that God said to themself that if they know the difference between good and evil then they will be like God, and that's why they were kicked out of the garden. Because they would be able to live forever and know right from wrong, and God wanted to have a huge advantage over his own creation. It's really manipulative.

I was a dramaturge on a physical theatre production a couple of years ago. The choreographer/director and I wanted a simple scenography consisting of a grassy floor with autumns leaves, a single tree and a sense of light gradually and unnoticably changing as it would with changing weather. It was a case of economy meeting poetry.
So we told the scenographer - we’d like a tree centre stage with no leaves because thats the time of year we’re at
Scenographer looked at us knowingly, a seasoned 70s Jung-programmer: aaah yes - the tree of life!
We were like : Nnno - just a tree please.
Didactically trying to avoid forcing disagreement scenopgrapher asks: Well what is the STORY of the tree? How did it get to where it is - and where is it heading?
Us: It’s just a tree mate.
Scenographer: Yet all the things in this room have a history - and the audience senses that - so we should use it to our advantage.
Us: We just want to show them a tree, to do with what they like. The audience is probably able to focus on what we present to them if we keep it clear and consistent. The theatre has a story too - we’re not telling that either, because they can probably tell the difference between real space and performative space.
    Scenographer: It’s a strong symbol though - a TREE …
Us: … AND - sometimes, its just a tree. A dead tree someone put in a theatre.
Scenographer: but what are we saying with that tree?!
Us: were saying sometimes there’s a tree and some leaves and some grass and some weather, and some people doing physical stuff about life and memory slipping between our fingers.
Scenpgrapher: Well why not a sofa then?
Us: thats actually not a bad idea. Maybe a tree AND a sofa. But just for sequences 4 and 7.
Scenographer: Ok but what is the STORY of the sofa hmm?
    Us: 🤫 - it’s like poetry … it rhymes.
