This is hilariously stupid. Exodus 21 is literally in the voice of God personally! Exodus 21 starts with God saying the words “These are the laws you are to set before them:“
Here's a good example of how "faith" is insufficient: frequently when people pass away, others will try to console you by saying "they're in a better place". Frequently this idea is expressed based on faith. If my mother was kidnapped, it would not calm me down to tell me, "Oh don't worry, she's probably on an island somewhere with her friends having a great time!" NO. I need to KNOW she is okay. Telling me a story, or to have "faith" isn't helpful. Similarly, trying to explain the biggest questions we have about existence and our place in the universe is not a matter for "faith", that doesn't answer the question. This is what religious people don't understand about atheists' fixation on knowledge, logic, and proof. They will often say, "well you can't KNOW God exists, this is a matter of faith". If fairy tales with no explanatory power are enough to satisfy your needs then you're a simple person and I almost envy you, but I need an actual answer to things, I'm too smart for simple make-believe answers that would sate a 5 year old.
Do not think too hard only happening, because you might accidentally come to an understanding that your illogical thought process is not happening! ha ha ha
Matt is the judo master. When ever some religious person calls he uses their own religion to make them stumble and fall. IMHO, every religion is a cover all bases doctrine. Then people pick the parts they like and justify the rest with BS.
When Matt goes through a series of questions, each ending “...right?” there’s a pause as the caller accepts Matt’s point if it “fits”, but they know Matt is going to throw in something inconsistent with their agenda. As soon as he does, all the “yes” responses are replaced by “Ah, but what you have to understand is that ...”
What I love about Matt and Don is that they truly are patient. They know how to deliver a good explanation in a cool and relaxed way when talking with someone with opposite views.
TheKosmikid "Faith is for fools" "Faith" is foolish, but people of otherwise good intent can be indoctrinated to fall for it. I don't think we should be so dismissive of the *people* who have been defrauded, as much as we should point out the serious flaws in *the idea.*
Let's create a scenario Dennis. The power grid goes out and all hell breaks loose in America! Food shortages, and really tough times. Who would you rather team up with? a Survivalist who can fish ,run a trot line, and eat tasty catfish, hunt for game, and have excellent mechanical abilities to fix things in case of an emergency, make shelters out of things that an atheist would never consider, protect yourself from the weather elements, know how to gain access to water ,know how to defend yourself, catch tasty game for survival by using commonsense items or team up with some mental midget like Matt Dillahunty who has probably never caught a fish in his lifetime, never fired a firearm, probably can not even fix a flat tire, has no survival skills whatsoever, can not run a trotline or know how to even make one, doesn't even know how the jump the dead car battery because he has no mechanical aptitude to speak of. Could never prepare any type of shelter because he does not knoewow to do it. Can not hunt game because he has never probably owned a gun much less handle or shoot one. You see Matt has spent almost his entire life working on his skills an Atheist but would die in less than three days in a survival scenario. So with that said DENNIS Please stop embarrassing yourself and identifying yourself with your ignorant teammate MATT DILLAHUNTY because yo are really, really, making your self look bad by identifying yourself with people that are useless vegetables!

paul slade - I'm guessing that was more commentary than disbelief, but if the latter: When someone lives in an echo chamber (most if not all of their social contact is with people who agree with them) and/or has been indoctrinated (by family and church authority figures), it's an effort for them to comprehend other beliefs, or question their own. Some religions do a variation on shunning, so even if they do start to question things, they're too worried about losing friends and family to really pursue it.
As Matt pointed out, the real problem here (which is the problem with ALL sort of dogmatic indoctrination), is that once you're in so deep, your beliefs are part of your identity, and your brain does all it can to protect that sense of identity.
You are listening to cognitive dissonance playing out in real time. This dude knows he has to admit to something he's forbidden to so he's squirming in every direction to try and avoid confronting he supports something he knows is wrong. It's pure mental panic.

11:00 Matt: "In ancient times was God okay with Jews enslaving people?" Caller: "He gave directions on slavery.." Matt: "Yeah, so God is okay with it, right?" Caller: deep sigh
David from Oklahoma at exactly the 14 minute mark: "He honors the laws of men." God to David from Oklahoma: "David, stop helping!" Never mind at 14 minutes. At every single point in the video... God to David: "David, stop helping!"
We are born with a brain more capable by miles than any other found on this planet and, for all we know, in the entire galaxy and beyond. That an owner of an organ so special can be led onto these strange pathways of incoherence is truly alarming. And equally, that other owners see it as their life's purpose to lead them there. I felt real sadness for this guy.
David is not ignorant he is dishonest. Who would want to have a neighbor, friend, or father like that? David is a good example of the stereotypical Christian. The hosts have so much patience!
Christians: "God's laws are eternal and above society" Also Christians: "Well, you know, it was common practice back then so God made His laws in a way that would fit within the existing societal norms" In other words: God had to be politically correct
Matt is amazing. He can have a long conversation with someone, and remember exactly what someone said, how many times it was said, and call them out on it. When I first found Matt, I really wanted to dislike him. He couldn't be right. He is, and I was wrong.
And I appreciate You for your honesty. For real, it really is a great example for all who see this. If we could all do this....the f'in world literally would change dramatically
Every time I listen an episode like this, when a theist is going through the brutal tap dance to justify their books immorality, i was always say “poor bastard”
This is like listening to a child, who has been molested by its parent since birth, being told that its parent is evil - “but....but....he loves me” - the normality of the cruelty cannot be resolved, the indoctrination is too deep. This person has been attached to a cult for way too long and would need a tonne of therapy to get over this.
When you find fault in the Bible so obvious and so clear cut, does it not just show this is a book of man not a book of God. All scripture of all religions is from Man. Man made God(s) not God made man. We clearly would not need faith if there was such a thing as a God.
That would be a good idea. We didn't have "critical thinking" classes when I was in high school, but we did have a Drama class & for a couple weeks the teacher taught us formal debating & we had to form 8 teams, pick one of the topics provided & one week convincingly debate the pro side of the argument & the second week convincingly debate the con side. If fairy tales with no explanatory power are enough to satisfy your needs then you're a simple person and I almost envy you, but I need an actual answer to things, I'm too smart for simple make-believe answers that would sate a 5 year old.
This guy has tons of thinking to do, I hope he goes through with it.
Do not think too hard only happening, because you might accidentally come to an understanding that your illogical thought process is not happening! ha ha ha
larry craddock
I see you have a response for everyone.
Do you even care whether or not your beliefs are true.
@@larrycraddock3063 Even if it's not happening, I'm stuck doing it for a finite time.
Larry
We join you at ha ha ha-ing at yourself, tho' it's not really funny.
But sad.
Its too late considering how old he is, and depending if he wants to abandon his "ego" reward system which I highly doubt.
Matt is on FIRE 🔥
This is a fine example of cognitive dissonance. Just perfect.
David makes my head hurt. Such ppl exist in this world n I am ashamed to share space on the planet with such ppl🤦🏽♂️
Yeap and they also reproduce and they also vote. They vote similar morons like David in the Government.!! This November go out and vote.
What I love about Matt and Don is that they truly are patient. They know how to deliver a good explanation in a cool and relaxed way when talking with someone with opposite views.
Faith is for fools.
TheKosmikid
"Faith is for fools"
"Faith" is foolish, but people of otherwise good intent can be indoctrinated to fall for it. I don't think we should be so dismissive of the *people* who have been defrauded, as much as we should point out the serious flaws in *the idea.*
Then you must be the biggest fool of all ,since you have so much faith in your deluded Atheism! ha ha
no, faith is believe without evidence it's for people who don't care whats true.
@@larrycraddock3063 Thanks, Larry, for showing your embarrassing ignorance and helping to further our cause!
Tbf, according to David, God isn't against abortions. He respects our human laws, such as the one that allows women to get abortions.
Love the work you guy's put into the shows. Thank you very much.
Yes all the hard work that trailer trash atheists put in to debating 6 year old children and uneducated Morons who call in to that show! ha ha
@@larrycraddock3063 I think that you will find , most of the religious callers seem to be more of the trailer trash types and you advocate slavery so you are immoral and unwelcome here.
Being a slave of Jesus Christ makes me immoral? That's interesting! The only man who ever walked the face of the earth without committing one sin? Being a follower of Christ is better than being the follower of someone who can not even manage his own financial bankrupt institution called the Atheist experience. It is so messed up that even his own book keepers can not even manage the affairs of his company! hmmmmm
@@larrycraddock3063 what is your proof of a god?
@@larrycraddock3063 p.s i did not mean you being a slave of jesus, i meant your god believes in having slaves and you therefore must believe this is right? Am i wrong or do you believe your god id wrong?
This slavery topic is always like watching someone trying to fold himself 9 times.
Damn, I feel like David hurt himself badly after going through those mental gymnastics. Poor fella.
This is damn near the top of my favorite calls.
I cant believe people use the bible as go to proof for thing's , as if it is a universal accepted standard.
That's one of the main goals of this show is to get people out of that mindset, and getting them to think for themselves.
paul slade - I'm guessing that was more commentary than disbelief, but if the latter:
When someone lives in an echo chamber (most if not all of their social contact is with people who agree with them) and/or has been indoctrinated (by family and church authority figures), it's an effort for them to comprehend other beliefs, or question their own. Some religions do a variation on shunning, so even if they do start to question things, they're too worried about losing friends and family to really pursue it.
@@paulwence648 Yeah very true, and this is so sad that people feel trapped aswell.
There are things that can be proven in the bible, however they are not what people think they are.
And I can not believe how people like you use your own illogical atheistic concepts as a universal standard of total stupidity!
Im glad I dug into these older shows. Mr Don Baker is awesome!
As Matt pointed out, the real problem here (which is the problem with ALL sort of dogmatic indoctrination), is that once you're in so deep, your beliefs are part of your identity, and your brain does all it can to protect that sense of identity.
Dang. He had to struggle just to say that slavery was immoral!!! WTH?!
You are listening to cognitive dissonance playing out in real time. This dude knows he has to admit to something he's forbidden to so he's squirming in every direction to try and avoid confronting he supports something he knows is wrong. It's pure mental panic.
Dillahunty: "So, unless you just blindly jump out one of these 2 windows, you're going to have to think about and resolve this contradiction in your worldview"
Theist: [not there. wind blowing through open window]
Am I the only one who literally visualized this 😁 I rather like this illustration
Gone! 🤣
Matt doesn't seem patient, but he is extremely patient with these callers. He has to repeat himself so often. I have such huge respect for this man.
Anyone who takes more than a microsecond to answer that slavery is immoral is automatically disqualified from talking any further about morality.
I hope David gets some physiotherapy after repeatedly twisting himself into a pretzel trying to rationalize his silly beliefs.
Matt was mighty patient with this one.
8:28 Damn, that rebuttal to this dudes flawed logic was quick as hell and completely genius. Bravo.
One of their best calls, just utterly savaged that guy, it was actually pitiful how his voice got shaky like he was about to explode trying to justify his contradictory position
Man his resistance to answer because it's putting cracks in his faith is like this pressure I can feel.
I love how he brings up slavery everytime and it works everytime.
"I'm saving you from being too stupid." Priceless.
One of the best calls. This is one of those episodes where Matt is at his sharpest.
I like the Catholic candle behind Matt's head with Neil Tyson's face.
Bruh! How'd you notice that?! Nice catch! 😂
This might be my favorite from Matt ever
Long sigh and silence= *Brain cannot compute logic*
Run *Refuse comprehension* program
Error error
*System crash*
Reboot brain to last saved state
This is how I view Christians lol
reboot and option available, do you wish to return to last stable boot ,yes.
Hey Matt, just watched your appearance with Harris and Dawkins in London. I,ve been watching for 8 years. I am so proud of you. you're definitely in the big leagues now. best wishes from upstate NY.
Hey deep heat. the video is on youtube. just was posted a couple days ago. it was great. enjoy !
11:16 That was the most defeated sound ever 😂
5:50 wow I got so confused at this point lol “ is there no position you couldn’t not take on faith”.... 😂
I don't know how Matt still has the patience to deal with these callers, seriously. Same thing over and over again... I only watch sporadic videos and I am exhausted already lol
Apologists' defending slavery are always hilarious calls tho :D
Sarah Michel I feel just like you. Exausted. It is almost impossíble to believe how people can be so stupid.
I too wonder how he keeps his sanity and am worried about his mental health. His wife must be very understanding.
@@TheTruthKiwi
haha, she must be indeed. I'm not worried about his mental health tho, he seems fine. I'm worried about the mental health of these callers lol
It truly is draining on the psyche to listen to this stuff more than not
The sad part is that if we ignore the substance of the conversation, David was on the level of being one of the more pleasant callers. He's not one of those callers like Brad/Andrew who keeps presenting entry-level arguments and whenever he shows wrong just moves to another one, or Luke from Phoenix, AZ who keeps calling in with some convoluted philosophical masturbation that has no purpose but to try (and always fail) to set up a "gotcha" moment on the hosts.
The Atheists experience, thanks for opening my knowledge. I was baffled with my faith until I watched most of you videos..
I'm an atheist thanks to you guys.
I appreciate more of my life now....
I grateful because people like you exist and spreading the real truth...
11:00 Matt: "In ancient times was God okay with Jews enslaving people?"
Caller: "He gave directions on slavery.."
Matt: "Yeah, so God is okay with it, right?"
Caller: deep sigh
This was CHECK AND MATE a long time ago, but David simply refuses to lay down his King.
wow -just wow. thats the way to smash irrational thinking.. i'm in awe :)
When your deity has more to say against food and nothing to say against owning people as property, then that’s not a deity to worship or follow.
David from Oklahoma at exactly the 14 minute mark:
"He honors the laws of men."
God to David from Oklahoma:
"David, stop helping!"
Never mind at 14 minutes. At every single point in the video...
God to David: "David, stop helping!"
Go easy on him Matt. I think someone stole his stapler
David is not used to being challenged on his ideas.
Sits in a circle of believers who just nod their head.
Why do these people even call?
Christians: "God's laws are eternal and above society"
Also Christians: "Well, you know, it was common practice back then so God made His laws in a way that would fit within the existing societal norms"
In other words: God had to be politically correct
Matt is amazing. He can have a long conversation with someone, and remember exactly what someone said, how many times it was said, and call them out on it. When I first found Matt, I really wanted to dislike him. He couldn't be right. He is, and I was wrong.
And I appreciate You for your honesty. For real, it really is a great example for all who see this. If we could all do this....the f'in world literally would change dramatically
I was in awe when I first listened to Matt and my whole life changed! He is excellent with skepticism and explanations.
“I’m saving you from being too stupid...”
-Matt
Don is just too damn cool.
Matt is on form as usual and is also too damn cool.
I love those calls where you can watch in real time how the shortcut in the theist mind develops.
This person has been attached to a cult for way too long and would need a tonne of therapy to get over this.
or read the bible cover to cover might help.
“I’m saving you from being too stupid.” Lmao I love Matt
"What kind of weak-ass god are you apologizing for?" Nailed it.
Of all the paper shredders sold to all the companies of the world, nothing has been shredded like this guy's "logic" has been from Matt
Matt shooting those logic bullets at David’s feet yelling dance! DANCE!!
David - a shining example of why Christianity is dying in the west.
I don't hate people for having religious beliefs, I hate them for doing mental gymnastics rather than being intellectually honest.
David is the human embodiment of eating cake and having it too
The dissonance is strong in this one. He broke "Thou shalt not bear false witness" more than once here.
Matt I'm diggin your beard bro
Man. I hope someone called the Austin police because we just watched Matt disembowel poor David on a live broadcast.
Matt sometime really has the patience of a saint : )
Davids metal gymnastique routine -10.
I saw what you did there. ; )
When you find fault in the Bible so obvious and so clear cut, does it not just show this is a book of man not a book of God. All scripture of all religions is from Man. Man made God(s) not God made man. We clearly would not need faith if there was such a thing as a God.
I think critical thinking classes should be required in schools alongside reading, math, and science.
It really taught you what a logical fallacy was, & helped you see them in other people's arguments & let you know when you were trying to slip one into your arguments & hope the other team didn't catch it.
and teach about money...
