I drink a very similar smoothie pretty much daily. The main difference is I always add some extra stuff mainly for the phenolic compounds. Cocoa powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and turmeric are my go to's.
Thomas can you do a video of a walkthrough of your entire day I’ve followed a lot of productivity gurus and one thing they seem to be missing is a video just showing the different systems they have in place as far as organization/time management, motivation, etc. by just missing one video viewers can miss out on a routine that makes what you do possible. That would get more views to your other videos that dive more in depth on the systems too. Thanks for the content btw you’re one of the first influencers I followed that changed my life
i appreciate your existence so much. You deserve all the love you get and more, you're so calm, analytical and informative, no bs. You also give actual tips i didn't know of, unlike most channels' videos. YOu put a lot of hard work and dedication into this channel, and I really aprreciate it.
Here in Brazil we have something called açaí. I do a variation of this recept using avocado, açaí, plain yogurt, whey protein, wheat bran, palatinose, strawberries, blackberries and peanut butter. This tastes awsome kz açaí flavor is very pronounced. Veeery good shake and keeps me less hunger for longer time. Many benefits for replacing bread and stuff like that for this kind of diet. Plain yogurt (fat) , Avocado (fat) and palatinose (low glycaemic index) may be a very good adding for your receipt. Maybe replacing/adding flexseed for wheat bran may be beneficial too and even cheaper. If you find açaí in your country try it out on your receipt
I talked to a dietitian about smoothies, and she said that we need to grind chia & flax seeds before they go into the drink. In her words, our digestive track cannot break down these seeds (they simply go through our system). So it’s better to consume ground seeds, it increases an absorption of nutrients. This’s what I heard.
Definitely not true re. chia seeds. They begin breaking down when moisture is added (which is why they have a jelly effect if left for a while) and even whole dry chia seeds are easily chewed (but gross, don't do that).
And if you consume dry seeds make sure to drink enough water, otherwise you'll get the WORST stomach pains when they absorb the moisture in your stomach. Speaking from experience :(
I make each morning a shake, here is what I use in the mix, 4 Dates less seed, I use date paste, 1 Tbl of each, Steel Cut Oats, Black Chia, LSA, Hemp, Wheat Germ and 3 Tbls High Protein Whey, 1 xTsp of Turmeric, Nutmeg, Cinnamon. 1 Teaspoon Black Pepper to help Turmeric dispersion in the body and a good teaspoon full of honey. 2 thirds cup of ice and a 2 Tbl water. Fruit,, I always use banana but only one third for creamyness plus say blue berry, or any berry available, at the moment I am using Passionfruit, as much as you like. I mix all this with a Bamix and it works fine, easy clean, done correctly it foams up fantastic and I eat with a spoon while reading the newspaper each morning.
Love this recipe! Except for flaxseed and peanut butter, it has all of the ingredients I already use. Going to try this tomorrow! (with my favorite, almond butter, of course...)
Really great smoothie recipe I really love how you add flaxseed to introduce fiber that was always my one problem with smoothies is they take away the fiber from the fruits and vegetables
My go to lunch smoothie is: 1 cup frozen blueberries, some cinnamon, cold coffee, about 3/4 cup, I large teaspoon peanut butter (or any nut butter, 15-20 grams), 1,5-2 scoops Whey chocholate protein powder. About 500 calories, with a lot of protein. Very good!
Very similar to my go-to smoothie. However, I cut the almond milk and peanut butter and go water and almonds. Cuts the calories down and 2 less processed items.
I can't use blender in the morning often so I eat normal cooked oats with fruits like berries, chia seeds, flax seeds and sometimes bananas. Later in the day I blend frozen bananas, peanut butter and greens and it works good to me.
I stumbled upon this video 5 yrs later and i just have to say...it looks EXTREMELY healthy and appetizing. This video is VERY informative and will now be incorporating this into my daily diet before cycling to work. Thanks a lot. Have a good one
Hello, I have a question: Is this a healthy smoothie? I use the smallest cup size. 1 cup rice milk 1/3 strawberries 1/3 blueberries 1 tbs peanut butter 1 teaspoon chocolate power (or one scoop of chocolate protein, depending if I have some) I drink this every morning because I don't have time to make myself breakfast in the morning. Thanks in adanced!
I started doing this in 2014, but with far less ingredients. I might just start adding some of these. Also, I actually put the blender on a digital scale and weigh things as I add them in, so I control my macro and micro intake. This is quite a lifehack, I must say... especially if you cut and freeze the banana beforehand.
Hello Thomas, my first time watching one of your videos. Your down to earth, easy going attitude is so refreshing - such a great change from the nutrition zealots. Plus your smoothie looks delicious just as it is. Best wishes from Eibhlin in Ireland.
Mine is pretty similar that I have done for a few years. Blueberries, Banana and milk as the base. Then whatever else sounds like a good idea to add, peanut butter, dark chocolate, coconut oil, matcha, avacado. If I want some protein I will just throw 1/2 raw eggs in there. Regardless of how random the ingredient combination is I sprinkle some ground ginger powder to make it taste awesome no matter what. As for veg I would rather just eat them along side some meat in a normal meal. I stopped having breakfast when I started intermittent fasting so I don't use it as a replacement for that. Also blending fruit destroys the type of fiber that helps your gut consume the sugar properly. To help with this I have the smoothies not long after a normal meal of meat and veg. Kinda like desert.
Great video and idea, i've been having a green juice to break my fast every morning, and it has been the foundation for my excellent health. If your not currently doing this, definitely, definitely give it a try.
A lot of people don’t know this but there is something called dehydrated peanut butter. It is high on protein, last long, you get a lot more than a normal jar of peanut butter, and it is way better then jif. I think you should try it sometime
If you are interested in doing more nutrition videos, I have an idea: Ways to eat more DHA and EPA. You could include: cheap and easy to make fatty fish, or you could include shellfish or sea vegetables that are high in DHA and/or EPA, or if you can find a cheap and easy recipe using fish roe (maybe taramosalata), or maybe for people who don't like fish you could find ways to hide fish in other foods (like maybe cutting the fish up in bite size bits and hiding it in a rice bowl or something), or the best foods fortified with DHA and/or EPA.
Old Fashion Oats need to be soaked in a fluid for 15 minutes minimum (or cooked) because raw oats have an anti-nutrient property. Chia seeds should also be soaked in a fluid for 10 minutes (or so) for different reasons. AND, can you be sure that protein powders are not BAD for your LIVER?
Thanks for sharing. Hi just bought that blender and I've been through MANY! This blender is awesome and powerful! You could just buy the bag of mixed berries. You look like a fitness pro. Keep up the good work!
A few tips to improve this process: 1- use berry medley so you do not need 4 bags of different berries 2- powdered peanut butter is much easier to use/cleanup 3- find a chia/flax mixture 4- fresh leaf spinach over kale mix is recommended, raw kale is high in oxalic acid
It would definitely be great to have more of the dietary content, specially w8th that sustainability factor taken into account, which is hard to find when looking on the healthy diet topic
Hey Thomas! I recently learned in my rotation that flax can be related to increased levels of prostate cancer in men. Not something I've read into a lot but just thought I'd mention it, since you seem to be consuming it on a daily basis.
I actually just bumped into this and have almost the same recipe!! Swap the almond milk for soy milk (more protein and usually more fortified) and chia seed for hemp seed!! I also add cinnamon 'cause it's good everywhere! :P
Hey, man!! Your ideas are great! What I would recommend for saving time and energy is freezing pre-made food like one day you make a ton of food and separate them into lunch boxes and freeze them
First time I've added vegetables and oats into a shake and it's pretty good! I didn't have peanut butter or the almond milk so it'll be next time, but for now pretty good, hope it feels me up until luch
Tuned in to see what you put in your smoothie and it turns out I have all of those things for my daily smoothie everyday too, but with a few extras, frozen chopped ginger, and green superblend powder. I even have the same blender lol!
Very intense shake! Thanks for sharing. With all those berries I wouldn't probably worry about the added sugar in the peanut butter or the flavoring of the whey. If this is your shake then this go for it! Curious though I'm interested in how long it usually takes to make this? I'm wondering if some people might have an issue with the time it takes and the barrier to consistency. Maybe pre portion everything in the bullet (minus the protein and the PB) the night before if you morning routine is tough as it is. Cheers!
You know when you feel like you wanna sneeze but you don't? Eating fiber too fast and too much feels like that but as if you are going to vomit. All day... It doesn't feel good. *Eat fiber responsibly, kids!*
Even better; don't blend your fruits and vegetables, just eat them. Blending fruit releases free sugars which your body adapts more easily causing overweight, which can cause health problems later on. The fibers are also blended into smithereens, so you don't get the benefits from those. As long as you workout thoroughly it's less risky, but I don't recommend blending your foods to save time. When it comes to nutrition and health, spending a little more time is very beneficial and something your body will thank you for later.
Sir , read carefully the lable on the peanut butter , some of them contain vegetable oil or hydrogenated oil , things the we want to avoid. We need pure peanut butter with salt at most .
It's crazy that I randomly clicked on this video and found that our protein smoothie recipes are so alike 😅. The only difference is the peanut butter and the spinach. Other than that it's pretty much the same even the blender 😂
As someone who was obese and lost weight through calorie tracking, I'm against consuming calories through liquids. It's too easy to take in too many calories when drinking them in
Before adding hemp seeds, walnuts, vegan protein powder and 70% water content, secure your true safety, security, and privacy by covering your entire living space with hard steel and stone.
This could be done for just the basis of “Eating healthy on a budget”. I know his channel is focused on a lot of school work, but I think this would be a great benefit to everyone regardless of their current situation.
I got the girls I nanny into smoothies when they were younger by calling it 'Ice cream smoothie'. Frozen fruit + plain unflavored yogurt = soft serve ice cream. We even added peanut butter to the banana smoothie or chocolate protein powder when they were older. Now when they have a break from online classes they pop into the kitchen, make a 'ice cream smoothie' and get back to studying. So proud
Hope you guys enjoy this different kind of video! Nutrition is a big interest of mine, so I'd like to do more content on it in the future - especially on how you can maintain a healthy diet without too much time investment. If you already make your own smoothies, I'd love to hear your own recipes or modifications you'd make to mine :)
Oh, good idea! I remember reading a ton of date-based recipes when I was researching how to make paleo desserts, but never thought of adding them to the smoothie.
I have a green smoothie every morning made with 1c almond milk, 1c frozen mixed berries, 2c spinach, 1tsp matcha, and 2tbsp oats and it has really made such a difference in how my mornings start.
You should do a video / videos for teenagers who have never been encouraged by their parents to be active and feel very self conscious about even starting to exercise regularly or eat healthy.
You could but you may have to tweak a little, the leafy greens, chia/flax seeds thicken as time goes by (even more when it cools overnight in the fridge) and the one time I did I ended up with something so thick it was undrinkable, so you may want to either put less of those, up the liquid ratio (if you use something bigger than a Nutribullet), or switch the almond milk to plain water. Hope this helps, let us know how it goes!
Scott Elliott - Why not pose the question directly to Thomas Frank? His name is right under the vid. Or did you just want state the obvious that everyone else saw too, but didn't want to draw attention to themselves by asking a rhetorical question followed by a dozen unnecessary question marks?

the irony when you jokingly insult the man's intelligence and you use "let" instead of "let's"

It's great. For how long do you run the blender?
Oh, good idea! I remember reading a ton of date-based recipes when I was researching how to make paleo desserts, but never thought of adding them to the smoothie.
Are the berrys/kale and spinach frozen in the video?
Yep, everything is frozen - though a lot of it had thawed in the b-roll shots, since it took me so long to set up the camera for each shot :P
I usually run the blender for 15-20 seconds :)
I have a green smoothie every morning made with 1c almond milk, 1c frozen mixed berries, 2c spinach, 1tsp matcha, and 2tbsp oats and it has really made such a difference in how my mornings start.
Use water, ditch the sugary fake milk.
@@conniealldis thanks for the suggestion! Luckily, I no longer drink this! My life is in shambles!
@@victoria974 What did he say?
Get rid of the oats. They are toxic. Lectin bomb. Look up Dr. Gundry.
@@victoria974 doesn't help anymore?
You should do a video / videos for teenagers who have never been encouraged by their parents to be active and feel very self conscious about even starting to exercise regularly or eat healthy.
Agreed. That would be really helpful
Do it please
Agree
THOMAS YA GOTTA DO IT THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN
Just keep it away from them if they're the problem
Can you make it the night before? My blender will wake up my entire apartment building, and I wake up at 5am
😁😁same here :D
Wake em up
@@dustingraham5205 lol
I wake up at 4:30am
Watching this while eating gummy worms and procrastinating on my math homework.
It's all funny until you wake up one day and realize your now 30 eating gummies watching this video.
@@onthemoney8356 Hahahahaha yikes!
The Funny One
Time to make some changes🙂
Your future self will thank you for it.
Then just add some ginkgo & fish oil to your smoothie!
Why is the smoothie he makes purple but the one he drank at the start and end was green???????????
Kooper Elliott he probably put more greens rather than blueberries
The power of editing 😂
@@ashitoshprasad5762 no I make it today and I have the same issue x))) after like 10 min it goes green
Scott Elliott - Why not pose the question directly to Thomas Frank? His name is right under the vid. Or did you just want state the obvious that everyone else saw too, but didn't want to draw attention to themselves by asking a rhetorical question followed by a dozen unnecessary question marks?
I didn't even notice
