    Thanks for the informative video. For those who like a little more detail: You may want to mention that your equation for computing "True Latency" generates results in nanoseconds (nsec). I think units are always important. Also mention that the rational for your "conversion factor" of 2000, rather than 1000, results from the fact that RAM executes on both the rising and falling edges of a clock cycle, hence 2 * 1000 = 2000.

    Impressed by the level you go into. However, the other timings have impact on performance, even if to a small degree, no?

    • @thybigballs
      @thybigballs 4 года назад +5

      CAS latency is the overall time (measured in cycles) between the memory receiving a request by the cpu and when the data was sent out to the cpu. The other timings/latencies are due to actions that happen within the CL timing. Generally speaking, CAS Latency is all that most people need to think about.

From trying to assess compatibility when upgrading and just generally tuning the performance of my system but this is one thing I've never looked into and it's SO important. Thanks for making it so easy. Easy subscribe!

    QUESTIONS: How do you determine the maximum RAM speed the motherboard of your computer can use? Also, how do you determine the maximum RAM your motherboard can use? Your video tells how much RAM you "currently" have and the speed of your "current" RAM, but not the maximum amounts possible.

    • @sorablack9828
      @sorablack9828 4 года назад +2

      Actually your the maximum of ram speed your computer can use depends on your motherboard and to find that out you have to look into your manual of your motherboard or just quickly search the motherboard in the internet and look for the specifications of the model you own. Best site you can use for is the site of the mobo manufacturers.
      Hope that this helps you.

      @@sorablack9828 Do you know of a way to determine how "much" RAM a computer can use as its maximum? I mean, a way to identify the Motherboard? I have looked at models similar to mine online, and it says 8GB. There are two RAM ports on the motherboard. Currently there is only one 4GB RAM in use. But, I saw in a video online that reports have come in that people use 16GB without any problems. The thing that makes my Dell Optiplex a bit difficult to determine is I bought it from someone else and it apparently originally had an i3, but was upgraded to an i5.

    Thank you very much for that video. It is very detaild yet quick to the point so super easy to view and be educated by so thank you. I have a question thoug. I am starting to learn more and more about the details about a pc. So what I have learned so far when it comes to RAM is, the owner needs to know the motherboards specs. Mine is an older one so it supports only DDR3 RAM up to 1600mhz, so I have 2x8gb RAM each 1600mhz and running dual channel also CL11. I can update and have the space in my tower for two more RAMsticks. I have learned that the RAM absolutly NEEDS to be the same capacity and speed in order for the PC tu run, but what if the two of them runs at CL 11 and the other two runs CL 9, but all of them is 8GB and 1600mhz, so that would be a total of 32GB of RAM but with different CL would that work?

My laptop r speed says 2133mhz, do i have to necessarily purchase the same speed as the original Ram for me to buy additional ram and install it ? It current has 4gb with 2133mhz.

      your motherboard/cpu will have a max ram speed that is allowed. so it is specific to your setup. since you are using a laptop, you can't really search up the motherboard but you may find some info on your cpu. hope this helps!

    Can anyone provide some units? "Latency" is measured in seconds. "Clock speed" is "Operations/Second". I divide Sec by Operations/Sec and get "Sec^2 / Operations". What information about the value does "unit" give me? And what the hell is that magic "2000" number?

    Hi, may I ask a question for my case?
    I have a brand new laptop, the spec said it has ram of 16GB DDR4 3200.
    When i checked on task manager it shows 3200Mhz. But I got different result on CPUZ. I know about dual ch ram.. so I expected 1600Mhz on Dram Frequency, but I only saw 798.1Mhz. Is this a correct value or theres something wrong with my ram? (They r stock ram, I havnt replace it with other ram).. should I concern about this? I am affraid of motherboard issue, pls help

      Hi Oryza, you are likely seeing only 800 Mhz because you have a singlue 16GB Ram Module in your PC. Dual Channel RAM works best in pairs.

      But my laptop has 2 ram, a pair of 8GB. When I see on cpuz (SPD tab), it reside in slot#1 and slot#2. Each showed 8GB DDR4-3200 (1600), but the dram freq on (memory tab) only show 798.1 (and not moving at all)

      @@Azyro777 Hi Oryza, Try accessing the BIOS or UEFI settings to make sure that your RAM is operating in Dual Channel mode. You can access those settings from the sign in screen. Click restart while holding shift. From there, you will be able to access the UEFI/BIOS settings.
