CAS latency is the overall time (measured in cycles) between the memory receiving a request by the cpu and when the data was sent out to the cpu. The other timings/latencies are due to actions that happen within the CL timing. Generally speaking, CAS Latency is all that most people need to think about.

im using i5 10400f with 3600 speed cl 16 ram. the 2666 you see is the single cycle not double cycle speed (so it actually supports up to 5332 speed ram)

Wow, I made some changes in the bios, had been running my 3200mhz gaming ram at 2100mhz... Imagine that, for almost 2 years. Losing all that performance, and dropping some frames cause of that. Just reestarded my system and it feels faster opening staff. I just wanted to make sure I was not crazy, and confirm it actually is running now at 3200 mhz. And task manager shows it. Thank you man. Actually your the maximum of ram speed your computer can use depends on your motherboard and to find that out you have to look into your manual of your motherboard or just quickly search the motherboard in the internet and look for the specifications of the model you own. Windows 10 Task manager often misrepresents the speed. My Ram clock speed shows much higher in Bios and it matches the advertised speed. Why is this the case for so many folks?

This is strange. Did you click "CPU" from the "Performance" section the Task Manager? If the Task Manager is not showing you the amount of threads, CPU-Z will.

I am starting to learn more and more about the details about a pc. So what I have learned so far when it comes to RAM is, the owner needs to know the motherboards specs. Mine is an older one so it supports only DDR3 RAM up to 1600mhz, so I have 2x8gb RAM each 1600mhz and running dual channel also CL11. I can update and have the space in my tower for two more RAMsticks. I have learned that the RAM absolutly NEEDS to be the same capacity and speed in order for the PC tu run, but what if the two of them runs at CL 11 and the other two runs CL 9, but all of them is 8GB and 1600mhz, so that would be a total of 32GB of RAM but with different CL would that work?

You may try NZXT CAM, Rammnm, CPUID, etc. to see the real specs. There are some apps that see the same thing that task Mgr sees, as they're incorrect. It used to drive me crazy.

@Nvader920 you have installed different ram sticks with different clock speeds. The task manager shows the lowest clock speed of the ram installed... every other rams get locked to that speed.

your motherboard/cpu will have a max ram speed that is allowed. so it is specific to your setup. since you are using a laptop, you can't really search up the motherboard but you may find some info on your cpu. hope this helps!

Hi, may I ask a question for my case? I have a brand new laptop, the spec said it has ram of 16GB DDR4 3200. When i checked on task manager it shows 3200Mhz. But I got different result on CPUZ. I know about dual ch ram.. so I expected 1600Mhz on Dram Frequency, but I only saw 798.1Mhz. Is this a correct value or theres something wrong with my ram? @@Azyro777 Hi Oryza, Try accessing the BIOS or UEFI settings to make sure that your RAM is operating in Dual Channel mode. You can access those settings from the sign in screen. Click restart while holding shift. From there, you will be able to access the UEFI/BIOS settings.

I have Black Predator Hyper x DDR4 3000MHZ it shows 1200 mhz on task manger and the same on Cpuz. however when it is minimized it shows 3365mhz.

If you're comparing prices then there are many more things to take into consideration like rank and density.

Your processor is bottleneck.. Gpu usage should always be high otherwise you are not getting what you paid for

I have an HP Omen 15 with Ryzen 7 48000H. My memory's CL is 22. So will going for a RAM with lower CL be a good idea ? For a laptop that is.

When i checked on task manager it shows 3200Mhz. But I got different result on CPUZ. I know about dual ch ram.. so I expected 1600Mhz on Dram Frequency, but I only saw 798.1Mhz. Is this a correct value or theres something wrong with my ram? (They r stock ram, I havnt replace it with other ram).. should I concern about this? I am affraid of motherboard issue, pls help
Hi Oryza, you are likely seeing only 800 Mhz because you have a singlue 16GB Ram Module in your PC. Dual Channel RAM works best in pairs.

But my laptop has 2 ram, a pair of 8GB. When I see on cpuz (SPD tab), it reside in slot#1 and slot#2. Each showed 8GB DDR4-3200 (1600), but the dram freq on (memory tab) only show 798.1 (and not moving at all)
@@Azyro777 Hi Oryza, Try accessing the BIOS or UEFI settings to make sure that your RAM is operating in Dual Channel mode. You can access those settings from the sign in screen. Click restart while holding shift. From there, you will be able to access the UEFI/BIOS settings.

The info regarding ram on my bios is only its capacity, my laptop is lenovo legion 5 pro. I see 3200mhz on legion bios first page tho
