This video helps me so much on my carnivore journey. Garlic is something very special to me. It would be the last thing I'd want to give up. I'm so happy to see it's on the safe list. Life gets a little bit easier now. Thank you so much
Same here! Just started with my husband on Friday and today is the first Sunday football of the year and my husband was like are we gonna atleast have meatballs? Lol can we have garlic lol I’m like I’ll check hunny 😂😅
Some spices contain high levels of heavy metals. Turmeric for instance can be contaminated with lead. Farmers in countries such as Bangladesh, India and Pakistan add lead chromate to enhance appearance and add weight to increase profit. Turmeric is a major ingredient of curry powder.
I just started carnivore diet. I went in super hardcore, just salt. After only 2 days I felt like going crazy. Everything tasted raw and beefy and meat, ugh! I added back in all spices, lmao. Now everything tastes good again and cooking is also more fun because you can marinate things, or make garlic butter, or make a simple sauce (obviously avoiding all oil other than animal fat). I was worried this was not "OK" but I'm glad I found this video and reading all the comments here. On day 6 now - still having troubles getting enough calories in me, mainly because eating too much fat makes me nauseous, but things are going better and better!
This was so helpful, thank you. I love mixing fresh tarragon, sage, thyme, parsley and butter and spreading it under the skin of the chicken before roasting :)
I'm glad my body doesn't have any issues with spices because I use a lot of them. Cinnamon powder in my coffee, garlic salt and black pepper on my steaks (along with regular pink salt) and papikra and cayenne pepper on my chicken, and the occasional chili powder on my burgers and roasts. Couldn't live without my spices. :) No health problems for me on them at all but I know there are others that are triggers for them. My sympathies...
My day 7 on carnivore: completely cut out all spices. Just salt. I have no "leaky gut" and no inflammation for the moment. WOW! I look forward seeing if it stays like this for 7 more weeks. If it does, then I'll really know what caused it. I feel so thankful for discovering this community! I've had so many problems these past 5 years, especially these years. Now it's like gone!
I have a cupboard full of a wide variety of herbs and spices and always used them when cooking meat and eggs, as well as plant foods -- black pepper especially was one of my staples. As an experiment, I tried eliminating these from my diet for a month and expected to get a lot less satisfaction from eating meat and eggs than I had previously when using spices/herbs (I still use salt, of course). Surprisingly, this didn't happen -- I found that I didn't crave these additional flavours at all. Perhaps because meat is inherently both tasty and very satisfying to the human palate, nothing else is needed. Therefore, although I had originally planned to reintroduce spices, this never happened. I just don't seem to need them anymore on a carnivore diet.
This is reassuring to hear, as those high oxalate spices are the very same ones I currently go ham on 😭 Did you go cold turkey or reduce them gradually? (Carnivore puns not intended, honest!)
@@EzraSprouts Cold turkey. However, this is probably easier and more satisfying with red meats that are more flavoursome than with white meats like turkey ;-)
Onion is my favorite spice. It goes so well with beef. Garlic is a close second. It goes well with pork and chicken. They're just two of the spices I use often. Occasionally I would have ginger when I'm having fish or seafood.
