Hey, I'm Jonathan Griffiths, a 29-year-old with a BSc in Human Nutrition from Bournemouth, Dorset. My journey as an amateur bodybuilder has been unique due to a fused spine from a rugby injury at 14 and my Autism. Despite these hurdles, I've found incredible success on the carnivore diet over the past four years, after other pain relief methods failed. I have since competed twice as a carnivore bodybuilder, with my recent showing on June 2nd 2024 where I placed first against an extremely competitive line-up. I am going to the British finals to try and earn my pro card. Meanwhile, I have had my spine fused in 2022, and various procedures to try and reduce the pain I am in. I am currently primarily a body composition coach in the carnivore community and have helped hundreds of people to reach their goals. The carnivore diet is my only option to try and thrive, and I love it!
My diet mainly includes beef, salmon, chicken, eggs, cheese, milk, and butter. I avoid fruits, veggies, grains, nuts, seeds, oils, and sugars. I drink water, coffee, and bone broth. No calorie counting here, just focusing on around 300 grams of protein and fat each day for the past 4.5 years.
In the beginning, I lost 5 pounds and felt a surge in energy, focus, and calmness. I woke up refreshed, with no cravings or GI issues. My workouts stayed strong, with better muscle pumps, vascularity, and faster recovery.
The diet eased the pain and stiffness in my spine, giving me more freedom and comfort. It reduced my need for medications and improved my autism-related symptoms, like anxiety and mood swings. My social skills and communication also got better.
Blood tests before and after the diet showed my liver and kidney damage from a virus had healed. My cholesterol was stable, blood pressure improved, and blood sugar levels stayed low. My liver and kidney functions were normal, with no nutrient deficiencies or hormonal issues.
This diet has been eye-opening, challenging many common dietary beliefs. I've learned that meat is highly nutritious and satisfying, and plants aren't essential or particularly beneficial for me. This is especially relevant given the genetic and metabolic traits seen in people with autism.
I've stuck to the carnivore diet, with occasional treats like 'Hot Pot' and Korean BBQ, which I can cook myself at restaurants. On my RUclips channel 'Carnivore Muscle,' I share my carnivore lifestyle, training tips, nutritional advice, and recipes, building a community of fellow carnivores and inspiring others to try this way of life.
I fully recommend the carnivore diet to anyone looking to improve their health, fitness, and well-being, especially fellow bodybuilders and those with spinal conditions or autism. In my view, it's the best way to enhance both body and mind. 💪🥩🚀

Congrats on your win, how exciting. You're one dedicated sob. Carnivore all the way. It's the only way to go. How cool is it to finally find a way to help. If you can take advantage of even chair workouts with dumbbells, I would do it. Anything that obviously wouldn’t involve weight bearing on your foot will help retain what muscle you do have. You can also get in cardio simply laying on your back and moving arms, and legs if you can. Like you’re backstroke swimming. Chalene Johnson just did a very eye opening female centered interview with an ortho surgeon on this. Get well soon :)

That’s great to hear. It’s so important to lift weights especially from our 40’s and 50’s onward. Loss of muscle and bone density becomes really debilitating but it is easily stopped and reversed by lifting. Bench press, dead lift and squats or leg press will give you amazing strength gains. Good form is important and start off much lighter than you think to allow time for joints, tendons and ligaments to adapt. Everything will change for you including posture, confidence and well being and you will double your strength quite quickly.

When I was strict carnivore, I would constantly get compliments in the gym about how I was getting consistently bigger and leaner. This was despite the fact that my weight was decreasing. I became a little uncomfortable with the low number on the scale even though I looked incredible so I started adding in fruit and honey. I won't lie ... for a while it felt good mentally, but tbh the vast majority of the weight I put on wasn't really the kind of weight I wanted, and I didn't look nearly as good. The compliments stopped as well.

One year ago at 67 I started Carnivore and withon three months my shoulder was healed and today I can lift crazy weight for my size. I am lean at 6 foot @ 160 pounds. @@rontiemens2553 There is NOTHING, I REPEAT, NOTHING you can accomplish by lifting weights for 15 hours a week that you can’t accomplish in 2. That frees up a lot of free time to actually do something productive for yourself or others, create something, spend time with family, go to the shooting range, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, volunteering, reading, kayaking, whittling, building a birdhouse, literally almost anything. Slaving away at the iron for 15 hours a week is literally a cope and quite insane. You could build a business or write a book with that kind of free time.
That’s the kind of time an elite level Olympic weight lifter spends training; you know, the ones in Russia who get paid to live in a training facility with the team, have their meals prepared for them, spend their free time in a sauna or playing ping pong, and practice their lifts twice a day.
He’s proud of getting good at a “torture machine.” Some day this man will reflect and realize that he spent an absurd amount of time willing damaging his heart and body with unnecessary stress. Or maybe he won’t.

Hey Noctem Knight, don't let your trainer bother you, just keep eating carnivore. I'm 50 plus and the best shape of my life. Just like Dr. Chaffee says, you will put on lean muscle mass. Super energy, strength, laser focus, no sickness, no need for sunscreen (at least that's been the case for me). I also internitment fast virtually every day. I workout with weights (intense) and ride at least 75 miles per week on road cycle and more. It is the fountain of youth. Right now, I eat steak, fatty hamburger, eggs, and some cheese. Liquids includes, lots of water, coffee with heavy cream. That's it. Carnivore for life.

Relating my own experience on lifting and carnivore. I've been training powerlifts (squats, bench, deadlift, overhead press and rows) since 2018. I was always low carbs (50 g or less a day) but in 2022 I went strict carnivore for the better part of the year. 10 to 15 grams of daily carbs mostly due to yogurt, milk and occasional wine. My lifts actually increased during the year, by +10 kg on the deadlift, 15 kg on the squats and 5 kg on the bench. Currently DL 155 kg x 5, SQ 133 kg x 5, I'm 55 years old.

    Story time:
Years ago when I was at the University I was following the carb loading cycle and doing the rigorous workout throughout my 4 year course. I did two days on, one days off with active rest and did all body parts. I was very happy with my self researched and put together plan, but my recovery was horrible and had mental fog from time to time which was not so much fun when I had hand ins for my courses. During the first two years I was consuming lots of protein but with the emphasis being on chicken breasts and very lean beef. Anyhow there was a Brazilian BBQ that just opened up close to my gym, and right on my way home where they served fatty cuts of meat straight from the skewers with bad ass cleaver right in front of you. You had a circle label green and for as long as it was green they would keep serving you huge cuts of meat until you turned it to the red side which said that's it I'm full. They had a promotion for our university students for some reason where for lunch we could pay one third the fixed entry and eat as much as we could! I changed my gym sessions so that it ended exactly before their opening lunch session and went there basically every day except for Sunday where they were closed. I ate so much meat I felt like throwing up and didn't feel like I was enjoying even a single bite any longer. I was so damn satiated that I didn't even touch any of my several premade meals for weeks and ended up going OMAD without realizing it. One day in about a month time I caught myself in the gym mirrors by the corner of my eyes and I legit thought it was someone else! I had out on a magnificent amount of muscle, all the while having leaned out. I also felt amazing and could no longer remember all the nagging pains and aches of recovery. Finally my brain was just so sharp I felt zero brain fog. The Brazilian place stopped with the promotion after about a month, mainly thanks to my daily visits, and refusing to eat any of their french fries 😂, but I learned a massive lesson thanks to them and switched to fatty steak and goat cheese and salmon afterwards and the results were astonishing!

It's so good reading all these comments. Carnivore has also changed my life and i feel incredible. I've lost 60 pounds but i still have more to go. I was able to lose weight while eating carbs by being in a calory deficit but it was a struggle. What amazes me with carnivore is how easy it is. Im not hungry all day. Even when i finally eat my big meal for the day, im rarely starving for it. Im eating under 1000 calories a day with ease and still feel good and strong. If i did that as a herbivore i would feel super weak and tired and have no energy. Ive been on high protein for a while but was always eating lean protein (for less calories and thinking fat was the enemy) but being encouraged by this channel to go high fat is what has really made a difference in how good i feel with tons of energy. Not to mention, eating a diet of chicken breast & vegetables was so depressing. Eating steak, eggs, bacon, etc is amazing. I also enjoy the occasional deep fried treat like homemade chicken nuggets with pork rinds (cooked in lard of course) and not only are they the best tasting ever, i don't feel guilty. Its almost as if we were born to eat this way haha. All my pre diabetes issues are residing, thanks doc, truly appreciate it.

Here's something I noticed on the carnivore diet. While pushing weights, whether shoulders, chest, biceps etc... I noticed that I have more vigor and determination. It's like it made me more aggressive and refuse to quit. I'm pushing weights like never before and I only go to the gym twice a week. I went down from a sick 208 pound, 5 foot 9, to 155 pounds 6 foot 3 (just kidding) still 5 foot 9. with 7% body fat, 1% visceral fat and the progress is still going.
You know how when you work out, there's that rep that you don't finish because you're afraid you're gonna hurt yourself, or that you're not going to be able to push? Your mentality will change and you'll believe in yourself more and challenge yourself like you're your own tough coach. I'm 48 and have been working out off and on my entire life and I have never experienced this until I started the carnivore diet. But don't expect all that vigor in the first few weeks because you're going to feel like shit, but then heaven's doors would open once you become fat-adapted and you'll feel better than you felt your entire life. That's not just my experience. From what I've been hearing from people's experiences, that's everyone's testimony.

I tried alot of different stuff over the last two years and I read a ton of papers and books. I come to this conclusion:
You can run long on fat. You can lift on fat. But you can‘t lift medium weight fast for time (crossfit) or run a 3000m (everything super high intensity betwenn 3-15 minutes.
It‘s extremely detrimental in those time domains. If you just add a little fruit before and after these kind of efforts, your fine. There is a reason Noaks and Volek don‘t look at these athletes. They no it quite well but they don‘t research that because they would sound contrary and contradictory. It is a very differentiated topic at the end of the day.

QUESTION: in similar fashion that we shouldn't rate the level of cholesterol on a carnivore diet as being bad because we used people on high-carbohydrate diets as the datum, then what about with testosterone? Should we use what we think would be healthy for a 25 year old when the typical 25 year old is taking a lot of carbs and maybe supplements or what have you? If the typical American diet is poor should youth be the only factor that we take in consideration for setting the datum for testosterone? If you say on a carnivore diet because I'm eating what I'm supposed to be eating what I'm designed to eat then my cholesterol is going to be what it's supposed to be regardless of whether it matches what is considered healthy then should we not do the same with testosterone on a carnivore diet?

Costochondritis. This condition occurs due to inflammation of rib cage cartilage between the ribs and sternum. Because costochondritis tends to manifest in the mid-chest area, near the sternum, you may experience pain under the left or right . • @anthonychaffeemd
      @anthonychaffeemd  Месяц назад +3

Hey that's so great that you're doing so much better on carnivore! I'm really glad to hear that.
As to parasites, not everyone will need to do a parasite cleanse, but if you feel that you have them, then I would go speak to your doctor about it and tell them your symptoms and ask if that would be appropriate. Parasites can get into different tissue and you usually have problems with that organ. For instance, many will live in the GI tract and cause stomach upset and/or diarrhea. It just depends though, and if you feel great then you don't necessarily need to worry about parasites.
In the western food system parasites and meat is almost non-existent, and it's more likely to get parasites from eggs and worms in the dirt trapped in the produce items from when you were vegan. However if you are worried about it, I would suggest going to your doctor and talking to them about your symptoms to see if that can help :-) If you do end up having something, it's usually a pretty short course of antiparasitics, so should be pretty straightforward to treat if that's needed. Good luck!

@@PrincessAloeVera it's beef, bacon, butter, and eggs. If you are not fat adapted your body won't gain weight on low carbs diets. It's just won't take them in. Your whole body has to get used to it. Especially your liver and gallbladder have to produce more bile. Watch Dr. Berg. He has a ton of info on this and other things.you may need tudca, I did. I advocate for this diet, but I am confused by your statements about how the body burns through glycogen to get to the fat for metabolism, then later you said muscle glycogen gets restored equally. So, which is it? My understanding is that muscle glycogen is used primarily for higher intensity work, but fat is used for low to moderate intensity - with increasing fat metabolism efficiency as you become fat adapted. I recall the 100-mile marathon champion Zach Bitter is animal-based, and found his body is using 80-90% fat even at higher intensity, but he still consumes some carbs on race days - but that's an extreme athlete which is understandable relative to the average athlete not running 100 miles lol.

Serge Nubret was most certainly taking gear. As to how much water makes up muscle tissue, it takes four pounds of meat to make one pound of jerky. Carbs are a very important part of bodybuilding and athletic performance. Vince Gironde used the steak and eggs diet as a tool. It wasn't a religion as the cult of carnivore has become. There's never been a carnivore Mr Olympia and there never will be.

They look totally different. Those fat boys even run and walk like fat boys. I rather look slim, and girls like the muscles that are slim not those ultra big guys that look like fat over grown toddlers. Plus carbs glycate your body and organs. Look older and die sooner with pain. You should try to learn more about low carbs. Sounds like you listen to Dr. Mike Israitel too much😂. Check out Dr. Berg and Dr. Ekberg. @@andyc7747 You are merely regurgitating the Chaffee mantra. Gluconeogenesis is a very stressful process. That stress on top of modern stressors releases ridiculous amounts of adrenaline and cortisol and taxes the thyroid. I was a carnivore from 1991-2017. You’ll learn the hard way. We all do. And we all turn to Ray Peat after that. Good luck.

Hello Dr. Chaffee, I greatly appreciate all the information you give out. Question: what do you think about supplementing creatine 5g a day? Do you think it’s good or bad ?

Thank you very much! I'm neutral on that, as you can get well over 5g of creatine eating only red meat. But, if you try it and feel like it's of benefit, I didn't see a problem with that!

@@anthonychaffeemd Ok I thought you’d be neutral, I haven’t heard you say much on it. I eat beef Pattie’s and eggs in the morning and some type of meat for lunch/dinner, but I’m still getting use to eating a lot of meat and Its sometimes hard to eat, because I just began eating a lot of meat after not eating the proper amount during the 19 years of my life. So I supplement creatine in order to get the optimal amount for me, don’t think it would hurt to use. Thank you for your response! Keep up the good work.

Ground beef. Drain or not? Just trying to figure out macros because I want to. Are the nutritional facts (amount of fats per 100g etc) using all the fats after cooking ground beef or not. Just curious because I’m new to Carnivore and trying to figure a plan without eating ribeyes which are a 50/50 days/protein which make it easy to figure out. But it’s $29/lb in Canada for ribeye. One of the (several) problems with TRT, or even something as simple as Melotonin is that they are hormones. If you are taking a supplement to supply said hormone, your body will choose to stop producing it on its own whenever it checks for homeostasis and finds the hormone is already in your blood stream. This causes those glands and portions of the brain to literally atrophy because they aren't needed anymore. Then when you cycle off, your body may take a long time to learn how to produce it naturally again.
Don't ever start these hormones. Like (literally) everything in the food, pharma, and medical industries these days, they are products designed to make you dependent; not help you.
