- was FINALLY able to get this bitch off! 🤣🤣🤣
This is a video about how to remove a cup concrete grinding wheel from an angle grinder. I was trying to remove the wheel for the first time and it was not easy. I hope this video helps.
I'm using a Dewalt DW840. I'm a programmer, not a tradesman, so this was my first time trying to get the wheel off. Hope this helps many out there, because this is a common problem.
To remove the wheel, when the tool is turned over with spindle lock button facing the floor, you turn counter clockwise. Наука
I’m a fellow software engineer/digital marketing analyst. I also love to get dirt under my fingernails and grab a chainsaw or grinder whenever possible. I’m really thankful for this one. You rock my friend. You saved me from overtightening mine.
Thank you! I am in the same bind right now! I am going to go try your technique!
Once you lock it, use a screwdriver through the holes for leverage. Rotate it counter clockwise. It’s hard but it works better than beating up the tools. 👍🏼😃
yea that's like the first thing I tried. But you have to be Arnold Schwarzenegger for that to work. Not enough at all to get it off for me.
I used this trick and it worked like a charm. Thank you so much!❤
Yup Arrow on wheel is to remove! I used this method works great! Ty
Many thanks! This thankfully worked
You saved my life, I’m an accountant 😅
Is that the Bauer cup from Harbor? How did you like it for grinding? I ended up using the Hercules turbo cup and it took me quite a while to grind but worked out in the end.
I believe that black button on top is the Spindle Lock Button…press it in and rotate the spindle until it locks then rotate the wheel - of course you’ll unplug (or remove the battery from) the tool first.
I’m using the same setup. Dw840 with harbor freight dust shroud.
Thanks. I also forgot which direction to turn because some threads are opposite.
How did you get the shroud on? !!!
Thanks a lot from another software engineer
Nice. I welded a nut on and used a socket wrench and it came right off.
Cyber security analyst here thank you!
Exact same problem
A wrench works too...thats why there are flatened sides on the cupwheel collet.
You can’t use the cheesey wrench that comes with the grinder. The wrench only fits for flat attachments, the concrete grinders are cupped, so you can’t get the 2 prongs into the holes in the first place, at best you can get em in half way and soon as you apply torque, you know it didn’t do much. That’s why he made this video.
About one minute of heat from a propane torch, and it came right off with very little effort. I fought with it for a couple of hours beforehand..
You can get it off with your hands you just gotta really get in there and crank it. Try throwing in a twist during the up and down motion to get it off.
*waits for Michael Scott*
Bro! WHatever happened to righty tighty and lefty loosy
does anyone know a simple common sense way to prevent that wheel from getting stuck in the first place ?
Yes - arbor plate or nut under wheel. Also grease threads with anti-seize or grease before threading.
Righty titey, lefty loosey
Or just use workbench swivel vise
