    I just don’t understand why Mattel can’t fix their quality. They’ve officially become the brand that just produces cheap dolls. If MGA is producing doll lines such as LOL and Rainbow High, there is no excuse for Mattel with Barbie.

      Honestly, collectors need to take a bigger picture, the revenue that collectors bring to Mattel is a very small portion compared to the general public. I believe that what kept Barbie as a doll at the top of sales today was the low price, and the quality of the materials is embedded in this value. Of course, the toy has to catch the child's attention and awaken the desire to want the toy, but at the end of the day, parents who decide whether to buy it or not. An adult who is thinking about giving a gift to a child and sees a rainbow high doll or a lol omg doll on the shelf costing an average of US$30 and next to it sees a Barbie with similar aesthetics costing less will definitely opt for Barbie, because In addition to the lower price, they know Barbie as the most famous doll in the world, so they think they are choosing a good gift. How many Rainbow High dolls do you think parents buy for their children per year? Today's children have so many entertainment options that within a few days they get sick of a new toy, get distracted by something new and the toy is literally thrown away. What parent is going to spend so much for a toy that is discarded so soon? Those who become obsessed with each release and buy all the dolls are adult collectors, it is this public that supports MGA. Regarding the quality of Mattel collector's dolls, well, you all complain, but also you guys who make these dolls sell out in minutes. Mattel is a company, most changes in products happen when they affect the company's profit, this is the company's response to understanding that consumers are dissatisfied. Or do you really think Mattel wastes time reading adult complaints on social media? You guys expect Mattel to give something that itself makes clear it has no intention of giving, which is why you keep getting frustrated. sorry

    It’s wild to me that these are being canceled while they still lane color reveal dolls with plastic hair.
    Extra dolls were far from
    Perfect but they were certainly better than many of the other Barbie lines out these days. If Mattel could just put out dolls with at least this level of articulation with decent screening, Saran hair, and outfits that are a little more cohesive, I feel like it would be an easy home run for them. Mattel acts like it’s this big mystery to figure out what people want to buy, but it’s really not that complicated 🤦‍♀️

    The pink barbie extra fancy actually seemed to do well in the US. I see her everywhere on social media too. The barbie extra fancy doll with the curvy body and green floral outfit they can't give away tho. I see her on clearance everywhere along with that green haired doll. I feel mixed about barbie extra. Like they had some cute dolls but lbr they had a lot of wack looking dolls with horrible garish outfits. I hope mattel makes something else but I'm keeping expectations low of course.

  • @memorian8472
    @memorian8472 10 месяцев назад +11

    The One thing that bothered me the most about Barbie Extra dolls is that each doll seemed to have the SAME style. Like yes no two silhouettes were the same but they all seemed to go for this garish styling with the same colors, where I wish that each doll focused on a separate trend that they made a little extra. Only maybe 3 dolls I could think of genuinely looked stylish to me while most of the line seemed..... a little clownish, which I feel bad for thinking. I feel like the concept wasn't fully realized. I agree that 4/5 drops were really good.

    Its not much of a shock to me , I felt the Extra line was hit or miss . Some of the fashions were a bit questionable. I like this line because the dolls had basic articulation and some dolls had desirable fashions .I bought at one doll from each wave but I used most for body doners because I actually prefer basic articulation over MTM. I love the curvy bodies too ! I hope mattel gives the consumers a better doll line and hopefully with articulated bodies 😅

      Personnally I used to like barbies because of their proportions and the made to move body (wich is now nowhere to be found in stores where I am). I still think their proportions are great, but articulation is very important to me and finding out just how bad the quality of barbie clothes is nowaday compared to what I grew up with turned me off from the brand. If you compare a 25$ Rainbow High to a 25$ Barbie doll, the quality gap between those is so great that I see no reason for people to buy Barbie other than brand loyalty or if more realistic proportions are your thing. And even then, it is easy to find alternatives to barbie with similar proportions and a lower price tag.

    • @LauraCespedes247
      @LauraCespedes247 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@saragreenfire4515 I honestly think separating the made to move body from the rest of the dolls is a deliberate attempt to get more money from consumers. They know there is a market for adults who swap the bodies out for a made to move.

    I have honestly noticed that children are not playing with dolls as much or for as long as they used to and what keeps doll lines alive nowadays are teen and adult collectors...
    Also Barbie has always had a problem, she doesn't know how to do cool, she can be girly, she can be classy but she's rarely ever cool, she tries but her designers always make her look like an old person's idea of what the kids like... XDDD
    They need to hire young blood, Robert Best and company are all great but they need to retire and give way to ACTUAL young hip people... I mean that as both young in the hips and young hip happening... XDDDD
    Barbie is more of a has been nowadays honestly, specially with Mattel seeing her more as an IP than an actual product now.
    Also their prices are NOT realistic or competitive to what the market is now, they need to lower their profit margins and the salaries of those CEO's and offer more quality if they wanna survive, their greed is what's sinking that ship...

  • @zidvicious6047
    @zidvicious6047 10 месяцев назад +2

    It’s likely that they were expensive to produce too. Given they’re playline dolls, the profit margins might be too slim to recoup the production cost. Disruptions in the supply chain over the pandemic may also have driven up cost.

    Thank you for looking into what I assumed was just another rumor, series 3 fancy and fly are amazing! Finally an Extra Ken💔
    Honestly I keep buying Barbie Extra #10 (pink microbraids) just for the articulated skin tone match of the body as there is no matches with the MTM's in this skin tone.
    Retailers where I live in Australia are are not stocking the 2 curvy Extra Fly dolls same goes for some fashionista's but never the blond Millie 🤣.... sigh. It will be interesting to see what they try to come up with.
    I know Barbie is about Glam and fantasy for most people which I love too but personally deep down I long for the realism of the original Barbie era and the My Scene era from the clothing details to the homes and furniture. I find myself looking at the more modern and realistic aesthetic of the Lori playsets and accessories here (not the dolls yikes) and wishing it was all 1:6 scale for my Barbie collection. Just my opinion as an adult doll collector.

    • @toykeyper8914
      @toykeyper8914 10 месяцев назад +1

      I agree wholeheartedly! I would love to see beautifully made realistic fashion from Mattel again. The My Scene/Fashion Fever era was my favorite for Barbie clothes and it would be so cool if they could release a modern day version of this. But until then it's Etsy for doll clothes for me.

    The Extra line came out right around the time I started collecting dolls again. They didn't seem like a big deal for me compared to what I was used to in the 90s. I grew up in a time when Barbie meant quality in all aspects. Then I realized that the line was actually better than what Barbie had been doing in latter part of the 2010s.
    I live in Canada, and the Extras were $40 until they went on sale, which they almost always eventually did. I have quite a few of them because they were worth the sale price to me. My local Walmarts didn't stock many, so I ordered most online, but I don't imagine that would attract a regular consumer with kids. As an adult collector, I hope there is still some way for Mattel to do a play line with articulation and saran hair. I hope the Looks line isn't stopping too.

    I liked most of the Barbie extra dolls, but some of the fashions were just not my thing. Here in Canada they cost $56! I waited mostly for sales, especially on those 2 Deluxe dolls - I really like them, but I was happy to pay $19 on sale, definately not worth full price. I don't think Mattel should count on those Barbie Movie dolls too much because they are quite expensive too - $35 for the base dolls, and $80 for the fancier ones! Crazy. The last set of OMG - Wildfower, Jams, Victory, etc. were superb so hopefully Mattel steps up their game.

    Really love the Barbie Extra dolls. That being said, I too didn't stay with them. Why?
    In the beginning I was all in and bought all the dolls, but then they started releasing those exclusive to Walmart, or Target, or whatever multipacks, that also had an exclusive doll in them. And of course, you couldn't get them here in Germany, or at least not for a decent price, with them being imports. And well, if I didn't already have all the dolls of these waves, the prices wouldn't have been that outrageous. But, well, I did, since I bought all the dolls from the beginning.
    So, since I wasn't able to get the exclusive dolls, as petty a reason as that might be, I stopped being a completionist. Sure, I still got one here or there, but - only if they were on sale, like the pink Barbie Extra Fancy doll for 20 Euros you mentioned in the video.
    Would I like a complete line of Barbie Extra dolls? Yes, of course, as I really really loved them, but yeah, that's the reason why I more or less stopped buying them.
    Mmmmh, maybe I'll go back and try to fill in the holes in the collection now that the line seems to be over.

I didn’t like the feel of these dolls because I grew up with Barbie’s from 60’s thru 70’s. These Barbie’s now -a- day just don’t speak to me til I saw newer MY FIRST BARBIES. I honestly was never a huge fan of the line, I did like some of them but I always wanted to change something about all of them when they came out.. I guess that just being nit picky but it’s a shame the line was canceled, I think you made some really good points about history repeating itself and the price point. It seems like with more common retailers in America that in the Barbie section you’d have budget Barbie’s that were very cheaply made including no accessories, a selection of fashion packs and then a huge jump in price to the Barbie extra doll. It’s hard to make yourself buy such a niche doll, when you were iffy on them in the first place. Most retailers around my area don’t even carry made to move or the lower end collector dolls like the Barbie looks series. I remember when we had toy r us and they had such an amazing Barbie selection. I guess we’ll never get quality like we did with the older fashionistas. Something that wasn’t too pricey but still felt like a good sale, the doll had a few fashion and basic articulation. With the Barbiemovie being such a big success I’m sure we won’t be losing her anytime soon, but I wonder what future lines will offer. It seems hard to even find newer Barbie that have high heeled feet. Im sad for fans of the extra line and unsure of the future, but I hope Mattel will surprise us.

    I only bought one, it had terrible hair! And bad eyes screening. The accesories was a silly Pig. I got turn off by everything. And it was $35 in my country. Made me want to cry. Mattel give us quality again.
