There's nothing consistent in any of the cannon. Not the books, TV, cartoon, movies... It's a jumbled mess of contradictions. The only thing it needed to do was tell a compelling story with interesting characters and it failed that miserably.

You cannot argue that the story of 7-9 is even close to the story of 1-6. Those movies are a package deal and lose a lot of their luster without the story of both the prequels and originals. The story of 7-9 feels completely seperate and just messes with the plot of the originals. And I didn't even hate RoS until the last like 15 minutes, so I'm not biased or looking through nostalgia glasses or anything. It's just bad story telling.
Revenge of the sith is a great film though. Attack of the clones was ok. Better then the new trilogy. Phantom menace had jar jar binks...but darth mal was cool as hell!
The flaws in those movies push away a different set of people than the sequel flaws, while having a greater set of perks. The dialogue was clunky and cheesy, sure, but the sheer imagination, music, and over all plot structure was sound to fantastic. Loads of amazing games and books exist because of how the prequels expanded the setting and that shapes my overall positive outlook on the prequels. We can only hope that disney slows down and experiments some with one offs before they sign off another trilogy. The best move they could make is axing EA exclusivity to star wars games.

I legit once listened to a third grader’s entire idea of how the sequel trilogy should go. I don’t remember a whole lot of what he said but I remember the story he came up with was much more invigorating and actually made sense. So I know as a fact that a third grader could come up with a much better sequel trilogy.

Admiral Ackbar but Jar Jar being bad would actually make sense. He was was the one who wanted to give Palpatine emergency power, which led the the Clone Army being made. It can show that Jar Jar was the mastermind who did all the planning, kind of like how in ANH everyone thought Vader was the ruler of the Empire, but it was revealed in ESB that Palpatine was.

Neither Leia or purple hair lady managed to keep those under them in check, which is ridiculous. And how are the so bad at recruiting? TLJ was retarded, I agree, but I really don't get your complaints with the prison break episode. The reason the prison break group fell apart is all the members had different goals going in and they were NOT part of a centralized military with a formal hierarchy. If anything the prison break shows the benefits of having a formal military hierarchy rather than having a band of disparate individuals. As opposed to TLJ, where a military hierarchy is supposedly in place but admiral Holdo is incredibly incompetent and unable to do basic leadership.

However, before you read my gripes with it, I would BEG you to watch the episode after it- I was put off by the Prison Episode too, but the following episodes are just as great as all the other ones excluding the Prison Episode. All I could think about while watching the episode is how the alien looking snarky lady was a carbon copy of Harley Quinn, the tough dude was a carbon copy of the tough rock dude from Guardians of the Galaxy or a less destructive Incredible Hulk, and the entire episode was almost as bad as the Suicide Squad movie because it was incredibly boring and pointless. The whole episode could have been left out and replaced with The Mandalorian saying “No. I work alone” with maybe a flashback scene in another episode, with no impact on the series. But seriously give Mandalorian another chance, that really was the odd sour apple out of all the other great episodes

Clearly wasn’t created with any care for the stories that came before. The logical progression of the Story would have been rallying the New Republic’s forces against the First Order and then taking the fight to them. But no, Rian Johnson had to toss out the whole preplanned trilogy arc and do his own thing as if it were a stand alone film. What’s worse is that Kathleen Kennedy just let him torpedo it. Then finally Disney told JJ Abrams to fix it, so he just throws out a spark notes adaptation of Dark Empire.

I thought the Knights of Ren were gonna be a Snoke contingency plan that came to wreck shop on Kylo and Rey both due to Snokes death. Instead we got guys in black rusty metal armor. It's sad how JJ can't write, but is paid millions.
The worst part is in the Kylo Ren comic series the Knights of Ren are an absolute Unit. And then in TROS they are weak Sith cultists lol. One of them was supposed to have a lightsaber, he has it in the comic series but not the film.
This was such wasted opportunity. They could have been such a compelling character, with their origin story tied into Kylos. He has known these guys for years and apparently got to the dark side through them, but only walk around a bit in ROS while doing nothing, and when encountering Kylo, he kills them all within a minute despite the fact that these guys should be his closest friends. He doesnt even talk to them, just instant murder, not acknowleding that they even know ech other, not trying to turn them to the light... and that is AFTER Kylos supposed turn to the light side.
If TROS was a character, it would turn to the camera and say: ""I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the sequels, but the OT and the prequels, too." So... yeah. While the movie was more watchable than 8, this trilogy is not my canon.
There are only 6 SW movies as far as I’m concerned. Story and mythology wrap up nicely with episode VI, and that’s it. Disney sequel trilogy is just messy, bad written, inconsistent, apocryphal non-canonical bad “fan”-fiction cash grab.
My personal favorite film is Episode VI. While it’s not a perfect movie, it wraps up the entire saga beautifully. All 3 final fights have stakes and maintain tension, making it exciting to see how everything wraps up. Rise of Skywalker seemed to me like an unsatisfying fanfiction ending to this saga in an attempt to keep in the “Skywalker saga.” For me, there are only 6 Star Wars films. George Lucas’s saga. The sequels are, in my view, a “non-canon DLC,” if you will.
Let’s not act like episode 1 and 2 were good lol(both were filler and had stupid things added to ExPAnD the universe) naw they sucked . You can legit watch episode 3 and be fine. But I will give episode 1 and 2 this at least they were pointless filler and not canon breaking stuff like the last jedi and ROS
The way I look at it is 7: a soft reboot that can largely be forgiven. Its biggest sin is not being part of a unified plan of action for the next two movies to act upon. The whole trilogy is directionless as a result. 8: a movie that would be fine if the fat was trimmed and it wasn't a starwars movie. Ryan Johnson shouldn't direct action movies. Subverting audience expectations only works if the audience wants a subversive piece. 9: 2 movies packed into the space of 1. It effectively had to create conflict and resolve it all in one movie, while trying to explain how 7 and 8 fit together. The end result is not having enough time in a three hour movie to tie everything up (eventhough we started with like 2.5 things to wrap up)
Instead of bringing back Palpatine as the main villain they could have had Rey fall to the dark side (since it's in her genes) and had Kylo bring her back to the light side (so Anakin's grandson defeats Palpatine's granddaughter).
Palepatine being thrown down that shaft is about as dead as you can get, and he comes back only to be more withered with a few missing fingers? Get out!
My hope is they'll use Mandalorian as a new starting point and disregard that terrible sequel trilogy. I can deal with the prequels shortcomings because they expand and dont take away. I like many consider the sequels bad fan fiction with a Mary Sue who is some how even more Mary Sue then the original.

What you said about how Jedis have to connect to the force, not that it’s part of them, captures what I’ve been saying for a long time now. The Jedi are space paladins, not space wizards. The Jedi only have power because they have a connection to an ever present, all encompassing entity with a will of its own. The force is belief in a god not simply magic. Jedis are a religion after all.
Actually they have science to back it up unlike the religions in our world. Midiclorian has been found to be cause of that connection and apparently proven in the universe and can be measured quantitatively.

The force was only good in the original trilogy when it was simply an obvious metaphor for power and the pursuit of power. The dark side simply being the idea that too much power corrupts you. Everything after that was a mistake.
As I understood it, midichlorians were not the cause of the force connection just merely an indicator of a person’s potential. It was a scientific way for Jedi to identify very young children with the potential to be trained. Midichlorians were like white blood cell count. Something everyone had, regardless of species. The higher the count, the more potential. I’d imagine that over time, scientists would’ve tried to figure out the difference between a Jedi and regular folks. Once they did, the Jedi used it as an efficient way of identifying younglings.

Maybe make it an "otherworlds" alternate reality Force vision that Luke had while in deep meditation in his Jedi academy or some other Force-nexus location, similar to how Yoda did at the end of TCW. One possibility after that to start fresh is with a satisfied Hamill, Jedi Grandmaster Luke who is training the next generation of Jedi with less strict doctrine as the old Jedi -- the ones that led to the fall of his father, Galactic Chancellor (or whatever title they end up making in New Republic) Leia Organa Solo managing all the politics and helps coordinate New Republic efforts, famous Rebel War Vet Han who is alongside Leia while helping New Republic operations across the galaxy where needed, Chewie is obviously wherever Han and Leia are, and Lando is a successful industrialist and businessman that works tangentially with the New Republic and supplies their tech. Anyways, most of the Empire would be broken up with a decently aged New Republic -- still relatively early, but not fledgling. The New Republic is still facing trouble from massive gang wars over the death of Jabba the Hutt, even after 30 years. They could possibly tie in the Force elements of Star Wars with Crimson Dawn or the descendant of that gang with Maul's successor being a secret apprentice or acolyte of his he trained. Of course, these are all just ideas. Most of it all comes down to execution. Disney just so happened to poorly execute to the nth degree.

Another thing you missed: At the beginning of the final fight, Palpatine tell Rey that he plans for Rey to kill him, and that when that happens, Palpatine will take over her fresh young body (because Sith necromancy or some Disney shit) and rule the galaxy. Five minutes later, Rey kills Palpatine, and the film acts like Rey won despite never addressing Palpatine's apparent desire to be killed by Rey for his total victory. At the end of the film, you could even imagine Rey Palpatine looking at the Force Ghosts with Palpatine's yellow eyes and calling herself "Rey Skywalker" as a way of the Emperor claiming all of the galaxy for himself immediately after KILLING OFF THE LAST OF THE SKYWALKERS.
I was baffled that they undermined the whole "anyone can be a powerful hero" message in The Last Jedi by making her Palpatine's granddaughter. When Kylo Ren says "Your parents were no one. They chose to be" I thought "Oh goddamnit. They're doing the "from a certain point of view" thing again".

I’m a huge fan and have an idea I would have loved to see... Kylo and his knights go to mustufar. They find the holocron, one of his knights asks him what it is... He replies, “the source of the true power of the darkside.” His knight responds... “I thought Exogel was a myth.” Then he and his knights get to exogel and see a bustling manufacturing city scape. They land and the holocron leads them through a huge plant. They see people/acolytes who give them space while whispering and when they reach the throne room they are attacked. Fight, fight, fight, then a huge voice booms, “stop”. Plageus approaches kylo and asks if he knows who he his? Kylo answers, the true power of the darkside. He answers, “no. This is the true power of the darkside. This planet. This cloning facility. With it you will have all the workers and warriors you will need to bring the galaxy to it’s knees.” Kylo asks, “why me” Plageus answers, “I watched the rise and fall of sidious. I saw his ego. His narcissism. I have no desire to be the face of the Empire. I’ve learned that my survival depends on my ability to stay invisible. Perhaps it’s a lesson you will learn one day, perhaps not.” He continues, “there is one thing standing in the way of your as ascension. Your conquest. It’s the jedi, they will not rest until we are destroyed.” Kylo bellows, “The jedi are all but destroyed. I will rid this galaxy of them once and for all, once I kill the girl.” Plageus answers, “yes, killing her is important, but she is not the key. There is another... a teacher... your mother... I have more... More about snoke sending him to wipe out the jedi under Plageus’ orders. More about the questions kylo has about killing his mother and Rey. More about Kylo betraying Plageus and asking Rey to join him. But the whole thing ends with Rey and Kylo stealing a star destroyer and blowing up exogel... that should have been the end of the saga...
Disney thought they could buy Star Wars and give it the "Live Action Reboot" treatment. Same old movie with updated gender norms and updated diversity. Sorry, fans want change without erasing the past. You can't deny where you came from while promoting an ideal future. You need to respect both.

You cannot argue that the story of 7-9 is even close to the story of 1-6. Those movies are a package deal and lose a lot of their luster without the story of both the prequels and originals.
The story of 7-9 feels completely seperate and just messes with the plot of the originals.
And I didn't even hate RoS until the last like 15 minutes, so I'm not biased or looking through nostalgia glasses or anything. It's just bad story telling.
Storywise I always liked the prequels more.

Revenge of the sith is a great film though. Attack of the clones was ok. Better then the new trilogy. Phantom menace had jar jar binks...but darth mal was cool as hell!

The flaws in those movies push away a different set of people than the sequel flaws, while having a greater set of perks. The dialogue was clunky and cheesy, sure, but the sheer imagination, music, and over all plot structure was sound to fantastic. Loads of amazing games and books exist because of how the prequels expanded the setting and that shapes my overall positive outlook on the prequels.
We can only hope that disney slows down and experiments some with one offs before they sign off another trilogy. The best move they could make is axing EA exclusivity to star wars games.

I legit once listened to a third grader’s entire idea of how the sequel trilogy should go. I don’t remember a whole lot of what he said but I remember the story he came up with was much more invigorating and actually made sense. TLJ was retarded, I agree, but I really don't get your complaints with the prison break episode. The reason the prison break group fell apart is all the members had different goals going in and they were NOT part of a centralized military with a formal hierarchy. If anything the prison break shows the benefits of having a formal military hierarchy rather than having a band of disparate individuals. As opposed to TLJ, where a military hierarchy is supposedly in place but admiral Holdo is incredibly incompetent and unable to do basic leadership.

However, before you read my gripes with it, I would BEG you to watch the episode after it- I was put off by the Prison Episode too, but the following episodes are just as great as all the other ones excluding the Prison Episode.
All I could think about while watching the episode is how the alien looking snarky lady was a carbon copy of Harley Quinn, the tough dude was a carbon copy of the tough rock dude from Guardians of the Galaxy or a less destructive Incredible Hulk, and the entire episode was almost as bad as the Suicide Squad movie because it was incredibly boring and pointless. The whole episode could have been left out and replaced with The Mandalorian saying “No. I work alone” with maybe a flashback scene in another episode, with no impact on the series.
But seriously give Mandalorian another chance, that really was the odd sour apple out of all the other great episodes

Clearly wasn’t created with any care for the stories that came before. The logical progression of the Story would have been rallying the New Republic’s forces against the First Order and then taking the fight to them. But no, Rian Johnson had to toss out the whole preplanned trilogy arc and do his own thing as if it were a stand alone film. What’s worse is that Kathleen Kennedy just let him torpedo it. Then finally Disney told JJ Abrams to fix it, so he just throws out a spark notes adaptation of Dark Empire.

I thought the Knights of Ren were gonna be a Snoke contingency plan that came to wreck shop on Kylo and Rey both due to Snokes death. Instead we got guys in black rusty metal armor. It's sad how JJ can't write, but is paid millions.
The worst part is in the Kylo Ren comic series the Knights of Ren are an absolute Unit. And then in TROS they are weak Sith cultists lol. One of them was supposed to have a lightsaber, he has it in the comic series but not the film.
What a waste. They should have been the main villain of TROS.

This was such wasted opportunity. They could have been such a compelling character, with their origin story tied into Kylos. He has known these guys for years and apparently got to the dark side through them, but only walk around a bit in ROS while doing nothing, and when encountering Kylo, he kills them all within a minute despite the fact that these guys should be his closest friends. He doesnt even talk to them, just instant murder, not acknowleding that they even know ech other, not trying to turn them to the light... and that is AFTER Kylos supposed turn to the light side.

There are only 6 SW movies as far as I’m concerned. Story and mythology wrap up nicely with episode VI, and that’s it. Disney sequel trilogy is just messy, bad written, inconsistent, apocryphal non-canonical bad “fan”-fiction cash grab.
Careful now, there are still the original whiny-fanboys who will say there are only 3 true Star Wars films.
My personal favorite film is Episode VI. While it’s not a perfect movie, it wraps up the entire saga beautifully. All 3 final fights have stakes and maintain tension, making it exciting to see how everything wraps up. Rise of Skywalker seemed to me like an unsatisfying fanfiction ending to this saga in an attempt to keep in the “Skywalker saga.” For me, there are only 6 Star Wars films. George Lucas’s saga. The sequels are, in my view, a “non-canon DLC,” if you will.
Let’s not act like episode 1 and 2 were good lol(both were filler and had stupid things added to ExPAnD the universe) naw they sucked . You can legit watch episode 3 and be fine. But I will give episode 1 and 2 this at least they were pointless filler and not canon breaking stuff like the last jedi and ROS
What about the clone wars?
The way I look at it is
7: a soft reboot that can largely be forgiven. Its biggest sin is not being part of a unified plan of action for the next two movies to act upon. The whole trilogy is directionless as a result.
8: a movie that would be fine if the fat was trimmed and it wasn't a starwars movie. Ryan Johnson shouldn't direct action movies. Subverting audience expectations only works if the audience wants a subversive piece.
9: 2 movies packed into the space of 1. It effectively had to create conflict and resolve it all in one movie, while trying to explain how 7 and 8 fit together. The end result is not having enough time in a three hour movie to tie everything up (eventhough we started with like 2.5 things to wrap up)
I didn't have a problem with Rey being Palpatine's granddaughter, but I don't think Palpatine needed to be in Rise of Skywalker for that to be a fact.
Instead of bringing back Palpatine as the main villain they could have had Rey fall to the dark side (since it's in her genes) and had Kylo bring her back to the light side (so Anakin's grandson defeats Palpatine's granddaughter).
I know it undos Anakin's sacrifice when he supposedly killed the Emperor in the return of the jedi

My hope is they'll use Mandalorian as a new starting point and disregard that terrible sequel trilogy. I can deal with the prequels shortcomings because they expand and dont take away. I like many consider the sequels bad fan fiction with a Mary Sue who is some how even more Mary Sue then the original.

What you said about how Jedis have to connect to the force, not that it’s part of them, captures what I’ve been saying for a long time now. The Jedi are space paladins, not space wizards. The Jedi only have power because they have a connection to an ever present, all encompassing entity with a will of its own. The force is belief in a god not simply magic. Jedis are a religion after all.
Actually they have science to back it up unlike the religions in our world. Midiclorian has been found to be cause of that connection and apparently proven in the universe and can be measured quantitatively.

The force was only good in the original trilogy when it was simply an obvious metaphor for power and the pursuit of power. The dark side simply being the idea that too much power corrupts you. Everything after that was a mistake.
As I understood it, midichlorians were not the cause of the force connection just merely an indicator of a person’s potential. It was a scientific way for Jedi to identify very young children with the potential to be trained. Midichlorians were like white blood cell count. Something everyone had, regardless of species. The higher the count, the more potential. I’d imagine that over time, scientists would’ve tried to figure out the difference between a Jedi and regular folks. Once they did, the Jedi used it as an efficient way of identifying younglings.

@@lethaldarkness115 No. Star Wars is lost, at least until their fix their act together like they should've had it from the start. Decanonize the Disney trilogy. Maybe make it an "otherworlds" alternate reality Force vision that Luke had while in deep meditation in his Jedi academy or some other Force-nexus location, similar to how Yoda did at the end of TCW.
One possibility after that to start fresh is with a satisfied Hamill, Jedi Grandmaster Luke who is training the next generation of Jedi with less strict doctrine as the old Jedi -- the ones that led to the fall of his father, Galactic Chancellor (or whatever title they end up making in New Republic) Leia Organa Solo managing all the politics and helps coordinate New Republic efforts, famous Rebel War Vet Han who is alongside Leia while helping New Republic operations across the galaxy where needed, Chewie is obviously wherever Han and Leia are, and Lando is a successful industrialist and businessman that works tangentially with the New Republic and supplies their tech. Anyways, most of the Empire would be broken up with a decently aged New Republic -- still relatively early, but not fledgling. The New Republic is still facing trouble from massive gang wars over the death of Jabba the Hutt, even after 30 years. They could possibly tie in the Force elements of Star Wars with Crimson Dawn or the descendant of that gang with Maul's successor being a secret apprentice or acolyte of his he trained. Of course, these are all just ideas. Most of it all comes down to execution. Disney just so happened to poorly execute to the nth degree.
By the time I saw this movie, I knew not to take it seriously. Like the holiday special. Same thin basicly.

Palpatine's actor's skills are wasted here.
Another thing you missed:
At the beginning of the final fight, Palpatine tell Rey that he plans for Rey to kill him, and that when that happens, Palpatine will take over her fresh young body (because Sith necromancy or some Disney shit) and rule the galaxy.
Five minutes later, Rey kills Palpatine, and the film acts like Rey won despite never addressing Palpatine's apparent desire to be killed by Rey for his total victory.
At the end of the film, you could even imagine Rey Palpatine looking at the Force Ghosts with Palpatine's yellow eyes and calling herself "Rey Skywalker" as a way of the Emperor claiming all of the galaxy for himself immediately after KILLING OFF THE LAST OF THE SKYWALKERS.

I was baffled that they undermined the whole "anyone can be a powerful hero" message in The Last Jedi by making her Palpatine's granddaughter. When Kylo Ren says "Your parents were no one. They chose to be" I thought "Oh goddamnit. They're doing the "from a certain point of view" thing again".

Kylo and his knights go to mustufar. They find the holocron, one of his knights asks him what it is... He replies, “the source of the true power of the darkside.” His knight responds... “I thought Exogel was a myth.” Then he and his knights get to exogel and see a bustling manufacturing city scape. They land and the holocron leads them through a huge plant. They see people/acolytes who give them space while whispering and when they reach the throne room they are attacked. Fight, fight, fight, then a huge voice booms, “stop”. Plageus approaches kylo and asks if he knows who he his? Kylo answers, the true power of the darkside. He answers, “no. This is the true power of the darkside. This planet. This cloning facility. With it you will have all the workers and warriors you will need to bring the galaxy to it’s knees.” Kylo asks, “why me” Plageus answers, “I watched the rise and fall of sidious. I saw his ego. His narcissism. I have no desire to be the face of the Empire. I’ve learned that my survival depends on my ability to stay invisible. Perhaps it’s a lesson you will learn one day, perhaps not.” He continues, “there is one thing standing in the way of your as ascension. Your conquest. It’s the jedi, they will not rest until we are destroyed.” Kylo bellows, “The jedi are all but destroyed. I will rid this galaxy of them once and for all, once I kill the girl.” Plageus answers, “yes, killing her is important, but she is not the key. There is another... a teacher... your mother...
I have more... More about snoke sending him to wipe out the jedi under Plageus’ orders. More about the questions kylo has about killing his mother and Rey. More about Kylo betraying Plageus and asking Rey to join him. But the whole thing ends with Rey and Kylo stealing a star destroyer and blowing up exogel... that should have been the end of the saga...
Disney thought they could buy Star Wars and give it the "Live Action Reboot" treatment. Same old movie with updated gender norms and updated diversity. Sorry, fans want change without erasing the past. You can't deny where you came from while promoting an ideal future. You need to respect both.
