A lot of people talk bad about those old John Deere floating deck mowers…😂 That’s actually what I started out using when I got my first job… Then they all went to the stiff deck mowers. 🤦🏻 It was hard to get use to that because because I had to learn how to mow without scalping after that. The deck wasn’t as tough on the John Deere but it really didn’t need to be in my opinion. But of course the 36’s don’t scalp as bad anyway because the deck doesn’t stick out past the tires very far. I’ve actually got that exact same engine on my old scag belt drive mower but it doesn’t matter to me because the scag came with a Kawasaki FC420v anyway. That’s kinda weird because it sits backwards on the John Deere…😂 I never noticed that before.
Not sure how I missed this video before. Thought I had seen them all 😅. I am currently working with an FC420V. Interesting project, I'll have to fill you in! P.S. I was yelling at the screen when you were trying to hammer out that jet. Haha. On these carbs that jet screws in as well.
I have a FC420V-KS09-1 with a crack in the case around the balancer support (black cross shaped on the back). If you need parts, let me know. I’m going to recycle it.
@@ChrisXOutdoors I just ran across it this morning. I rebuilt the identical carb yesterday. There are two additional jets in the carb throat also for a total of five. Main jet, emulsion tube behind it, idle jet, and one in each side of the throat.
I would love to see more about the restore you’re doing. I bought the 48” version of this machine with electric start a little over a year ago. It was fairly well maintained but the deck is a little rough. Would love to see what you’re doing with yours.
Outstanding. Only complaint, and designed to make it even better..., there were times in the video that I would liked to see exactly what you were doing but could not because of a big blue hand being in the way.
Lol.. Thanks for watching Ken. Check out some of the newer videos on the channel when you have some free time. I have dramatically removed how much of the time my hands take up the screen space. Happy 4th!
Hello I have a kawasaki 420v 14hp. It loss fire just replaced ignition coil and the regulator. Got spark. Pulled fuel filter was clogged. I pour a sprinkle of gas directly in carb nothing got a brand new carb on it any ideas
I have a Kawasaki FB360V flathead engine I believe 12.5hp, sitting on the floor I pulled off an old Bunton walk behind. It needs work, but I'm sure it'll run again. Wonder how much thats worth. Same square muffler as on this one. Its recoil start, I forget if it had the electric too. I have so many engines sitting around waiting for me to mess with I forget lol.
I’m sure someone is willing to pay a couple hundred for it. Might take time but it should sell. Crazy how well these things are built compared to the cheaper stuff
I hated this carburetor. I took it apart and cleaned it twice and even asked a small engine mechanic about cleaning it and I did what he told me and it still sputtered and ran like crap at idle until I bought a new one.
@@ChrisXOutdoors I have one of those mowers do you have a diagram of how to install the deck,I'm trying to see if all of the parts are there,ok maybe a video on them

@@ChrisXOutdoors Thx for the prompt reply. CS02, and it shows up here & there, but no valuable info regarding a certain replacement carb. Most of them look the same but...
I’d try Kawasaki.. if the CS02 doesn’t show up on their website, it means the engine parts were made by Kawasaki but assembled by JD. I’ve tried to get kawi involved in situations like that but they usually don’t really want much to do with it. They won’t admit it but most of the parts between those similar carbs can be compatible
@@ChrisXOutdoors Uh-huh. The Mikuni has a Briggs 'badge' on it but not the words. And experimenting today, I took a carb off of a Briggs, and drilling out the bolt holes, making a bowl gasket, and Mickey Mousing around, I got it to start/run, but the throttle is backwards 🥴
It’s an interesting discussion.. compared to other manufacturers, people don’t need to replace parts as often because of the build quality so they didn’t pump out near as many parts during production. Thanks for watching Mike!
@@ChrisXOutdoors That's true. Im a power equipment mechanic at a Scag and Kawasaki dealer. Although these engines are practically bulletproof, when parts need to be replaced, we can't order them. That mower looks good to me. I actually have one of these and love it for the floating deck
The valve seat isnt in the carb. That piece that screwed out was the jet and the other is the emulsion tube. Great video.
Thank you!

I need a hood and deck for a LX 172 I just got. Man are they high. 😮
For real 😵💫
Runs great!
They make these Kawasaki’s really well that’s for sure!
The emulsion tube tube under the main jet you were pounding on screws out. OMG

I have a JD36 walk behind with an FB460V with a Mikuni carb and rebuild parts aren't available per JD. What carb would you suggest
Do you know the numbers after the FB460V? Should be 4 total after.. 2 letters followed by 2 numbers. Example mine is an FC420V-AS10
