What was in the bottle you used to pour inside the spark plug whole?
I use two stroke fuel.
I just bought one of these on marketplace and I didn’t test it before buying it and it won’t start. I found your video and did exactly what you did and Shazam! It runs. Thanks
That’s so awesome!! Glad you got it up and running 👍🏼
I have a similar one, the weak spot is the fuel line, I put a new carb and lines and hardline and it runs great, kept the adjustable needle valve tho. It even has grease fittings so I greased it all up. Has the electric start 110v which is a must if it’s been sitting. Def a beast
That adjustable needle valve is so helpful
where can i get those tools?
Online or through a distributor
Thank you for this video. Very well done. Great explanation for those who may not know how to use this tool.
Thank you for watching!
Hello, just got a craftsman l1000 riding mower (2003). I have the brigs and Stratton 17.5 hp motor in. I bought it to make it into a racing mower or just a fast one. So today I tried to adjust the governor and now it seems that every time I start it the engines rpm’s skyrocket and a giant cloud of smoke comes out of the exhaust. I did a quick google on why smoke would be coming out and I did figure out I have gas in my oil. I’m planing on doing a full oil change and then I want to figure out how to reset the governor (if that is the reason why it is smoking)
Check to make sure gas isn’t pouring into the oil through the carburetor. Sometimes the float needle can get stuck open, and the gravity from the gas tank will allow the fuel to consistently overflow in through the intake and into the crank case.
I know it was two years ago, but this is still a great video. Thank you.
Thank you! I remember making this video well. I appreciate the kind words 👍🏼
How do you change the o ring on the dipstick? I noticed mine leaks on that side when its running around the bottom of the dipstick and around the base on the same side. Thanks
To take a look at it, but I believe the dipstick tube just pulls out and you can change the O-ring/grommet. Double check to make sure there is not a bolt or screw holding the dipstick tube up near the top before removal
@@ChrisXOutdoors Nope its leaking from the bottom of the dipstick near the base. Only while running. Based on the manual i see an o ring under the oil fill tube. very confused on this one and can't find a def video on this
Often times there is an O-ring around the bottom of the dipstick tube. Can you not just pull it out? The dipstick tube?
@@ChrisXOutdoorsdoesn’t look like it, might be a bolt or something I’m not seeing. Would upload a pic I have but comments won’t allow me
@TomNeeley chrisxoutdoors@icloud.com
Chris Do you still have the chipper? Any chance you could send me some photos of the throttle linkage on the carb? I can’t seem to get mine squared away
I would have loved to but unfortunately I do not have the chipper anymore. I’m so sorry
I bought one years ago and get it running it works good in jamaica. I lone it to a friend and he broke my baby
That’s a bummer. Unrepairable?
I have this one. The ignition coil somehow came loose and hit the flywheel, wrecking the coil, snapping off the coil mounting posts, and breaking off 5 fan blades. A very poor design. This damage can't happen on B&S engines. I have replacements for the coil and flywheel. Can the post be welded back on? They're on the cylinder housing. The crankshaft is tapered, so I can't just replace the engine. The B&S version has a standard crankshaft.
I have tried repairing the posts (what you are describing) about 3 or 4 different times when that has happened to me and none of them have been successful. JB weld, regular welding. It’s just a mess. I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. You can try to repair, but it’s such a sensitive area with very little surface area to work with on what broke off so it’s a tough one.
Dafuk is that? I hope you try to fix only your tools...
Uh…. You’re making a repair video for a rim leak…. And don’t know what a “tire pressure monitor thing” is called or how to use it? It’s a tire pressure gauge and that little knob on the back side is for letting air out of your tire. lol
Bro , looks like you spent 20$ for your 200$ worth of time wasted and in the end you figure out oh l did fill up fuel mix… Good luck l am stopping watching peace ✌️
Hello Chris ....Excellent information and explanation ......Chris I have a question my problem my mower does not reach the maximum revolution...I understand that it is the spring that is on the governor rod...it is the same as the one in your video there , when I push it with my hand on the carburetor it accelerates well...my machine is a Brigh Stratton with 6.0 engine and manual acceleration with cable my carburator do not have aceleration screw adjust ...is same in you video ...how I can resolved this ? any idea ?
Interesting. Is there any apparent damage to any of the moving parts beginning from the Governor arm all the way to the butterfly plates at the carburetor. I’d check over all of that first.
I verificated all movable part and is fine , only I see the rod spring is It has a little old and I can't tell if the tension is okay my spring and carburator is same in you video ....and I can say the engine on fine but I see that it does not reach the high revolution
You can adjust the Governor arm to allow more tension on the spring bringing the rpm’s up. Where the Governor spring pivots from coming out of the engine, you can use a pair of pliers and bend the Governor arm in the opposite direction and it should do the trick. Less is more. You can always keep adjusting more and more until you find a sweet spot. You should also be able to bend it back the original way if you go too far. Make sure the pliers grab it near the bottom where it comes in contact with the Governor post coming out of the engine. Hope that helps!
OK thank you Chris ..I will check tomorrow
Thank you Chris I resolved my problem and my lawn mower work fine ....Thank you for all
I have one of these, bought in late 90s. It has very low hours and starts fairly easily each time. I treat the gas always, but the current supply is old, though only a tiny bit remains. It only runs smoothly at half choke and surges a bit when taken off choke. What are the chances that fresh gas and some Sea Foam will clean out the carb? Suggestions? Liked and subbed.
It should do the trick. If not, you might have to pull the carb off and give it a thorough cleaning. Thank you for watching and keep me updated on how the seafoam goes!
do I need to replace something, the Throttle moves but the other part does not fully close, and now it starts and stop the lever has to move manually a bit to start fully, what is wrong?? than another issue is fully rev there is no control from the leaver as it was before Victa 500 thanks any advice
I’d start with checking to make sure nothing is getting hung up with the linkages (the rod that is connecting the lever with the carburetor). Sounds like something might be wrong with that
I just picked one up at auction in superb condition for $30. I have a friend in small engines going through it to prep it for winter. It’s a miniature work horse for sure!
Ask your friend about installing an impeller kit. They are little rubber flaps added onto to the impeller. Makes such a difference in performance and they are fairly inexpensive.
What this machine is: A troybilt horse. There were three versions. 1, 2 and 3. I own a horse three. It is powered by a Kohler 8HP Magnum. These are pretty good machines.
Agreed. Love the older stuff so much
Congrats on getting it to run again 👍 mine is running but it takes a while to get it started. Full choke to start, the engine runs for a second or two then by the time flip the choke to normal, I have to restart to get her to run.
Sounds like the mixture is definitely off. There’s a video on RUclips by Steve’s Small Engine Salloon on adjusting a 2 cycle fuel mixture. It’s great and he explains everything
@@ChrisXOutdoors thanks for the advice, will definitely check it out!
Great video. I probably would have removed the wheels and cleaned and greased the axels and drive gears. Also a shot of oil on all the cable ends and work the oil in.
Great point. I should get in the habit of doing that for everything I work on. Typically I only reserve it for things that are in rough condition.
Man, come on. I never make negative comments, but land the plane please. Too many tangents. Simplify your sentences. Get to the point. Thank you for the effort though. Sincerely.
lol
Hey Chris! I recently picked up a Honda EB3500, I haven't checked the load yet with a multimeter but I tried to run a vacuum and it blows the 20amp breaker after about 30 sec. Any Ideas where to start troubleshooting? Pretty familiar with engines but not generators.
Probably something with the output. I’d check what’s coming out of it first with the multimeter and go from there
😮 nothing runs like jd john deer
Agreed! 😎
I have one of these. It works great except for when the leaves are deep. It gets plugged up easy and you constantly have to shut it off and reach in and unclog it. But as long as you stay on top of the leaves it works great.
Yes for the little bit I used it, it worked great!
I recommend using a K&N air filter for your Toro super recycler mower
I own a bunch of snap on. Not worth it anymore. HF is close enough in quality at this point
I have a 4000xl. Quit running. I put a new ignition coil on it but still won't run. I think i have bigger problems. 😡😡
Could be a host of different things. Sometimes when I think something is going to be super complicated, it turns out to not be. And sometimes the opposite is true, I think it’s going to be a breeze and it turns into a nightmare lol
@@ChrisXOutdoors after further inspection.. it's the valve spring retaining cap that broke. Unfortunately the fix is a valve job. Wish me luck. It's my first time
A family member just gave me one identical to this one. He talked like it wasn’t used a lot. It don’t look like it has been used a lot. I just hope I can figure out how to get that bag attached lol. It has a new carburetor because the old one was gummed up too bad to clean from sitting. I haven’t fired it up yet, but I plan to try it sometime in the next day or two from the time that I posted this. I will definitely use this one because my yard gets quite a few leaves
Good luck with it. Hopefully you can get it going!
great video !! just picked up a JX75 not running gave it a good carb cleaning runs mint next clutch bearing replacement and new drive belt install!!
They are great machines! They last FOREVER. Especially if maintained properly
@@ChrisXOutdoors Yes Agreed!!!!
Thank you for the video, i own a Deer 14SB and a fresh new arrived Yanmar YL-480-TS , both incredibly solid cast aluminium these are american and japanese mowers, i even own a french one i believe with the same engine and cast aluminium aswel but with yellow color
Fantastic machines aren’t they?
@@ChrisXOutdoors yes sir
Is that a tecumseh engine? I have one of those tillers, troybilt horse, mine has a tecumseh engine, it belonged to my father, I want to restore it someday,
Do it! It will be a great project and one that you will remember forever 👍🏼
Thank you for this video! Great information! However, I tried this, and my power washer still doesn't work. I dont believe the internal part of the governor is working. The rod doesn't seem to be turning to move the governor lever. If I manually move the governor lever while it is running, it will respond and throttle up and down. How often does the internal part of the mechanism stop working? It is a Troy Built professional series 2700 psi power washer. This particular model from what I have researched, apparently is very problematic. Problem I am having matches completely, but this adjustment is not fixing it.
If the engine is running way above rpm wide open, something internally is messed up. Doesn’t sound like that is your issue. I’d check the linkages where the Governor and carb are connected and make sure nothing is hung up. Sometimes that will happen and affect the Governor arm. Keep me updated
Chris, I have basically the same machine, it might be a 3.5 and it's red not green. My problem is that it's leaking oil all over the deck. I replaced the seal for the dipstick tube b/c I thought it was that but I was wrong. It's still leaking. What seal could it be that it's losing oil from right where the engine meets the deck? Is it worth repairing? It still runs good but it's a pain worrying about the oil. I just priced a new one at 799.99. Nope!
There is an engine pan gasket.. also a crankshaft seal. It could be one of those 2. Both need the engine pulled off and split apart to replace. It’s not the most complicated thing to do but I’d definitely try to check out a couple RUclips videos on it. 1. To see if that might possibly align with the issue you’re having and 2. to make sure it is something you’d be confident doing. Keep me updated and let me know how it turns out
@@ChrisXOutdoors the oil sump isn't simply bolted on? The case needs to be split?
Engine needs to be unbolted from the frame, removed and set upside down (carefully). Make sure to drain all oil first. Engine sump can then be unbolted and removed (or split) from the crankcase. The crankshaft seal is also located on the bottom of the engine sump pan.
@@ChrisXOutdoors Thank you for your reply Chris.
Everything turned out great. Replaced the sump seal and no more oil leak. Thanks again Chris.
I've got multiple issues. Water isn't coming out during prime and my power cord won t pull.
Pump pistons might be doing something funky. Connect some water to it and before you pull the cord, press the nozzle trigger. Sounds like you have built up pressure in the wand and it should shoot a small pressurized bit out. From there, you should be able to pull it over
I have the same model it's loud as hell
Exhaust issues?
@@ChrisXOutdoors nope just loud. I think it's normal. I need some ear plugs.
Every snap I’ve met is an absolute loser in their personal life. Generally financial irresponsibility will follow you around to other areas in your life and doesn’t stop with just tools.
Snap On is over.... However great back in the day.
Tangent question: For removing the tire off the rim, do you recommend using the clamp you used in this video to pop the rim bead? Or is this too dangerous? Edit: I was thinking of bracketing both sides of the tire with a flat piece of wood, and using 2 clamps to tighten both ends of the wood planks. The wood is to spread out the surface area of the force from the clamps.
For tires like this, I support it. As long as you are careful it’s not as dangerous as if you were trying to do it on an auto tire or something like that.
@@ChrisXOutdoors thanks for replying.
I completely removed the governor arm from the governor post. I don't think I was supposed to do that. I can now easily turn the governor post with my fingers. Did I mess up the setup inside the engine where it connects to the governor post? I'm a bit worried that I have to take the engine apart to set up the governor correctly inside the engine? This is my first time working on a lawn mower. Can you please confirm whether I messed up or not and give me advice on what to do? Thanks for your help.
You should be good to put the Governor arm back on and follow the steps in the video. The Governor post can only rotate so much inside of the engine so if the arm goes back on, you should be able to get it back to its original state if you follow the steps in the video
@@ChrisXOutdoors Thanks for your help. I think I got it. I have a briggs and Stratton 675 series 190cc push mower, and it looks to have the same lever setup on the same side of the engine as your craftman, and the same setup with the carburetor etc. I figured by your video that I must turn it counterclockwise as well. The thing that has me doubting is that I found a video showing how to change the governor lever on a briggs and stratton engine (not my exact model even though it's a briggs) and it states to turn the mounting post CLOCKWISE before tightening the lever to the post. The lever setup to the carb on that engine in the video seems to be different than our setups, but I don't know if that matters or if all the briggs engines turn the lever mounting post in the same direction. I emailed them to see if I can get a response. I don't know if I can post the video link so you can watch a few seconds of it and let me know what your thoughts are depending on what you see on the lever setup in the video? I don't want to put a link in this comment and then have YT remove it. The name of the vid is: *Briggs & Stratton Small Engine Replace Governor Lever Part # 590520* It's only 30 seconds if you begin watching it at minute 3:20 through minute 3:51 as this is where it shows the installation of the lever.
You forgot the guy who always gets bumps and cuts
