Alex thank you for sharing your lessons. I appreciate the fact that you explain the different incorrect club setups. Explaining each one helps me diagnose what causes my bad shots. Then you show the correct way. I’ve learned a lot from your tutorials. Thank you for taking time to share these and the way you are coaching us.

I went outside this morning. Through your tutorial I realized I was turning my hip with my down swing. I have had trouble getting my club head thru the ball thus leaving everything right. When I played yesterday I was turning on the ball on my shorts irons hitting them straight with more distance. Thanks again for sharing your talent. Please don’t let the ones who have negative comments stop you from posting your tutorials. People should appreciate you taking time and effort making these. If they don’t agree and help them that’s ok.

Just found this excellent video on how to sit irons on the ground. Five minutes age I dropped a comment on getting irons with the right amount of shaft angle on another video of Yours. Many years ago I had a 56 degree wedge that always had everything going left or even hooking left. I had the shaft angle changed which corrected these off line shots.Your subscribers may be interested in this type of information. Ray

Good vid. It's not obvious either. I've seen a number of pros and they wouldn't answer the question. It took me best part of 3yrs to realise that the shaft is leaning forward at address and this is where it returns. Now I hit the ball properly! My longest iron is a 6 but this is a hangover from my bad iron days, I have a 5 I reckon would work now.

If one just looks at a tour pro’s divot, it is plane to see that their divot almost always has a skinny tail on the players side of it, then you see the full club head width going forward. Nice tip Alex.

I've been playing for 43years and used to be able to hit the 300yd drives and 150yd 7 irons. Can you help me out? Always love your lessons and tips been subscribed for sometime now.

Longest iron is 4 ,no rescue club I use a 7 wood ,hate offset clubs as my natural shot is a draw so I don’t need any help going left . One thing to mention is that offset clubs force your shaft position with more hands forward than than clubs with little offset ,this is very noticeable when I pick up the wife’s ping offset shovels, easy to hit but hook city for me .I play mizuno 919 tour irons with kbs lite x shafts and for the most part games fine ,worst case is the shanks which appear from time to time and kills my game ,had them on and off ever since I started playing this game ,I will check my set 8pm after this video later today at the range ,cheers .

Thanks for this tip Alex. I was taught proper technique but it is important to always check yourself for proper setup. I know we all take it for granted many times. The Pro’s always take their time and check themselves. Most of us just try to whack the ball somewhere in the direction we are pointing. Those of us who take the game more seriously or have the time to play more often seek great advice and your channel provides much content relative to many of us.
The lowest iron I carry is 5 iron. Typical setup for today’s gamers. I can still hit long irons but a hybrid is much easier and it has may other uses. For those par 3’s from 165 to 185 I prefer to hit a 19 degree hybrid. But I also use it at times just off the green instead of chipping.
Question: What about forward shaft lean at setup? When should it be utilized if at all. I have tried it and found it to be effective in striking the ball. Comments?

Currently got 4 wedges up to a 5 iron and then 4-3 hybrids. I got double hybrids at the top and I can hit them beautifully but I miss having longer irons in the bag. I’d rather have a 5 hybrid and a 4 iron even though my 4 hybrid is so reliable…..flies about 190 and gives me about 205 in distance. My 3 hybrid has taken the place of my 5 wood. I do miss having those lower lofted irons when I have long shots under a tree line. I could easily get over 200 yards on a hooded 3 iron that went no more than 10 ft off the ground. I don’t have that shot anymore. My hooded 5 and below still works for most of those shots when they come up but I feel they happen more often than my 3 hybrid does. I’m usually lying under 200 or over 240 which is more of my HL 3 wood range….235-250. Giving up my regular 3 wood means no more reaching the greens from 250+ but I wouldn’t say that was a reliable shot for me anyway. The biggest beauty of the long hybrids is stopping power. If I fly a green with my hybrid it will stop, often in under 5 feet. I didn’t have that reliably with a 4 or 3 iron. It’s awesome flying a green from 185-210 yards and stopping it. I dunno. Still figuring out my clubs. I need a new putter and driver. Still figuring out which wedges I like best. My drives are typically 260-290 with occasional low and high. I’ve got an old clunking driver someone gave me and I’ve tried some others and they just feel so much easier to hit. I also pretty cheap and used golf balls. I have a feel I could reliably drive 285+ with a better driver and maybe some pro v1’s. Got fitted for my current clubs and it made golf a lot easier. 😂 I’m kinda waiting till I get somewhere for a driver fitting maybe find out a better putter than the hand me down I have. For the first time I’m trying to figure out how to be better at golf in 20 years and actually playing regularly…..my HC is currently 3.5 but I feel like that is deceiving. I do usually play in the 70’s or low 80’s on non-pro courses but it’s the occasional good round that gives me that handicap. I’m an okay golfer. I just typically play smart. I could easily have a HC of 12. I am finding that clubs make a huge difference. I mix in 1 great shot with an okay and a bad shot to get a lot of pars. 😅occasionally I get 2 good ones in a row and that’s where my birdies come from or the opposite and my bogeys. Anyway, I just started watching videos like this a few weeks ago and it has improved my game. I actually just learned this tip this last week. Kind of rambling now but just want to keep getting better.

    Hi Alex.
First of all, thank you for all your simple and very effective tips. I watch them every day and really made some huge improvements already, thanks to you!
But I also have a question for you in which I hope you have a drill that would help me out on my (main?) problem.
My teaching Pro tells me over and over again that I have a very good swing. BUT I have one thing that I cannot get under control and that are my straight arms.... In the practice slowmotion swing, I know what to do. But when taking a normal swing or when I am hitting the ball, my arms (especially the left one) are always slightly bended.
Sometimes I think the swing was okay, but after checking the films he is making from my swing, I always end up disappointed.
Can you please help me out on this matter?
    Greetings Rene

My longuest iron is a 5. I could have bought my Ping Karsten set with a 5 hybrid instead of a 5 iron but I just picked what was in stock at the shop. This is a decision I regret today, because I rarely hit my 5 iron past 7 iron distance, often shorter because of mishit, while I wish I had a hybrid a little easier to hit than my 4 hybrid.

One thing you forgot to mention which was in one of previous video is that the forces on the club on the downswing tend to bend the shaft in towards you due to clubhead toe weight which is offset from lever arm which is the shaft. This weight wants to move downward due centripedal force but the downward force bends the shaft inward.

    • @johnogolf

exactly right, plus the softer the shaft, the more it can happen!!

    • @blue24563
