    To be honest--not to look down on US Americans, but even if their education system is terrible, how do they not know three countries?
    I sound a bit like a jackass saying that, but really, I've memorized most country names and several cities just through watching series, and talking to people online. In any public group there's bound to be at least ten different nationalities. How would that not even come up a few times?

      Sometimes it is hard to give answers on the fly, when you are put right on the spot like that! I have seen very smart people stumble upon the most simple questions with my own two several times in my life to know how difficult it could be to concentrate and give the quick answer in the short period of time! This happened to me as well on several occasions, when i had to to pass oral exams back in the school days, when teachers was asking me several questions to which i had very limited time to answer! Most of those questions i knew answers for, but couldn’t answer at the time due to the mixed factors of anxiety, nervousness and the lack of composure! It is scientifically proven, that large portion of popularity is affected by those things! (Which is why oral exams are a rare thing in schools these days!)

    To be fair, it's not ENTIRILY their fault, I've heard some experiences of people going to the USA to study and they're always amazed of how little of the rest of the world they teach there.

      This actually surprises me, because, in the US, contrary to popular belief, we are taught all the countries in the world, basic history of some of the more well-known countries in the world, and a few physical features per continent. I’m guessing the people who couldn’t answer the question in this video either:
      A) didn’t pay attention in class.
      B) didn’t have a use for the information, so they forgot it (the brain can be annoying that way).
      Or
      C) These requirements are new to our educational curriculum, which is probably the least plausible explanation.

I’m guessing the people who couldn’t answer the question in this video either:
      A) didn’t pay attention in class.
      B) didn’t have a use for the information, so they forgot it (the brain can be annoying that way).

      I blame Europeans and the host asking the questions here. That's how Europeans refer to the US usually (America). For example, my German friend said Did you hear what happened in America today? The term Americans doesn't help either. He should have phrased his question better to not cause confusion and say outside of the America's or North and South America. It's easier in most European nations to just say America rather than put stress into saying US, USA, United States, or United States of America. It flows off the tongue better saying America. When I was on a business trip in the Netherlands 4 years ago, most answered are you from America; I had maybe 3 say US or USA.

      As for the America vs North and South America argument, I blame U. S. geographers who, approximately 50 years ago iirc a video i' ve seen, decided for no apparent nor legitimate reason to separate the American continent mainly in 2 (can't forget Central America after all, wouldn't be very cash money).

      You would technically be right as at least some geographer may have considered the Australian continent (btw, while we're talking about Oceania, there's also the idea of thz Zealandia continent), but I bet that it would be U. S. geographers that decided that and let this misinformation spread through the U. S. like how they did when they decided to cut America (the continent) in two.
      But for the most time it has been Oceania, because Australia (the idea of the continent) would still include New Zealand and you would have to make the distinction every time you would speak about 'Australia' or else you could run the risk of people rightfully understanding that you would have said that the country that is New Zealand would be in Australia the country.

    • @Daneelro
      @Daneelro 2 года назад +2

      @@clemente3966 I'm European :-) The way I have been taught in school, North and South America were considered one continent just like for you, but New Zealand was considered an island, not part of any continent (only islands on or connected to the shelf of a continent were considered part of the continent, see Greenland and North America, the British islands and Europe, or the Japanese islands and Asia).
      Looking at it from the viewpoint of geology, although it goes against what I have been taught, the notion of separate North and South American continents does make a lot of sense, just as much as separating Africa and Asia, and a lot more than separating Asia and Europe. Meanwhile, New Zealand grew on the remains of the one-time micro-continent Zealand you mentioned (which fell apart due to tectonic expansion) and straddles the current tectonic boundary between the Indo-Australian and Pacific plates, so that inclusion makes little sense, too.
      Looking at it from the viewpoint of human socio-econo-political geography, Oceania makes a lot of sense, and the separation of Europe and Asia, too (also the inclusion of Iceland in Europe), although you get a lot of conundrums - like Russia, which has most of its population in geographical Europe and its history is intricately linked to its western neighbours, but most of its area is in Asia; or Mexico, which is geographical North America but is culturally closer to the rest of Latin America than the US or Canada (with socio-econo-political differences that are now more significant than at the time of European colonisation); or Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark but culturally tied to people in Canada's Nunavut territory; or the lack of a clear socio-econo-political separation between North Africa and Southwest Asia.

    • @clemente3966
      @clemente3966 2 года назад

      @@Daneelro
      Fair points, but:
      Geographically, the separation between Asia and Europe is symbolized by the Ouran Mountains, and imo it makes sense because it would match with the socio-econo-political geography, so for me it would make as much sense.
      As for Russia, I don't get it. You mention it in the socio-econo-political part where it's the most fitting part for it to be in Europe but you call it a conundrum?
      As for Mexico, Latin America goes even to the U. S. as many people in the South part speak Spanish and (might) have learned Hispanic culture.
      But for the rest, yeah, I don't know what to say, they're good points.

The name of the concentration camp, Austchwitz- Birkenau actually translates to the names of the two cities in Poland: Oświęcim and Brzezinka
