By the way, those who aren’t in the USA or Canada will disagree with me on North and South America, but a lot of countries have different continents.
@@vtsv27 I think what he meant is that all countries don't share the same view of the world, meaning that some of them consider there are 5 continents on earth, some other that there are 6... etc. Many western european countries tend to officialy picture America as a whole, for instance.
"One ticket to Europe, please." What? "To Europe." Which country? "...Europe." W-what? "...Europe..." WHICH COUNTRY FROM EUROPE? "..........e u r o p e....."
5:23-6:30 This conversation partly explains why I hate the fact the United States are also called America. It makes people only think about the US, effectively disregarding every other country in the entire continent (from Canada all the way to Argentina) as part of America. As I see it, North and South America are simple the 2 halves of the continent. I don't know why and how the United States got the "right" to be referred to as America, instead of its neighbours, but I find it sad and selfish.
You're wrong. It's called South America and North America individually. Together it's called "The Americas", which refers to its entirety. Each country in The Americas has chosen what their citizens would be called, which comes after their countries names. America received its right from its' name, which no other country has taken. It was called The United States of America due to history.

@@JohnSmith-yf5bk People outside of the english speaking world don't use "Americas", it's just America. Aside from that, if you say "COUNTRIES outside America", it is clearly speaking of the continent, not the country, both are America but the context imply the continent.

You're wrong. It's called South America and North America individually. Together it's called "The Americas", which refers to its entirety. Each country in The Americas has chosen what their citizens would be called, which comes after their countries names.
America received its right from its' name, which no other country has taken. It was called The United States of America due to history.
