Thats bc america is so diverse no one bothers to teach us any other languages bc we do tend to pick up basic phrases in at least spanish usually. We dont get taught bc too many languages are around us so noone thinks to teach us (that’s the actual reason from an american)

I had to actually sit down and count. I think I could answer the question "what's your name/who are you" in somewhere between 10-15 languages off the bat, but this does not by any means mean I speak all of those, just random tourist phrases I have picked up. I'm fluently trilingual and can understand a couple more languages if spoken slowly or in written form, but my tired adult brain can't cram any more language knowledge into it at this age lol

I had to actually sit down and count. I think I could answer the question "what's your name/who are you" in somewhere between 10-15 languages off the bat, but this does not by any means mean I speak all of those, just random tourist phrases I have picked up. I'm fluently trilingual and can understand a couple more languages if spoken slowly or in written form, but my tired adult brain can't cram any more language knowledge into it at this age lol
