i was a extra on 3 episodes of salem. lots of fun walking around in this set. very accurate depiction of 17th century life. the costumes were authentic and very uncomfortable. the costume guy was kind of strict about how we were dressed. after costuming out we were coated with "movie dirt" because people back then were no supposed to be really into cleanliness ....i was a "townsfolk" in two episodes and was a "guardsman" in one episode. can be seen briefly in the witch hanging scene.......we filmed in all weather...snow , sleet, rain.
This is a beautifully done video! Thank you for posting this walk down memory lane. My husband and I worked as extras on this show, and we met some of our favorite people there. The hours were long and grueling, but it was magical working on that set in the beginning. For the pilot, we wore Joseph Porro's costumes (Joseph also did the costumes for Tombstone, which also starred Stephen Lang - affectionately known as "Slang") - and they were spectacular. For the actual seasons, the clothes were cheaper and uncomfortable, particularly the shoes. After the first season aired, I chose not to continue, but my husband worked as a townsperson, a militiaman and one of the men in black at the gallows (can't remember what they called them). There were some buildings that had portions where we filmed inside, but most of the interior shots were filmed on a sound stage in downtown Shreveport. It was always a treat to get to work on the soundstage - better crafty snacks, shorter hours! This set was an hour's drive south of Shreveport to Grand Cane to park, then a bus ride to the set - often in the wee hours of the morning, and sometimes not getting to go home until very, very late at night. The property is privately owned so it's not accessible anymore. Several strong storms damaged the buildings, but they weren't meant to last. The church interior was pretty cool, and we often were given refreshments there on break. Some of the actors were more accessible than others - and when Stephen Lang and Xander Berkeley were there, it uppped everybody's game. I'm in the scene here where they're dunking the "witch"....one of many faces!

Been on a few studio construction sites and the materials that are used for those buildings is super cheap. Most of the exterior wood is either 1/8 inch sheets of plywood or 1/8 inch luan board. Most of the details you see on camera, like block and brick work are usually just painted on to the surface. Once the left the “City of Domes” set, they were able to save a ton of money simply reusing old sets from other movies! Only, back in those days, from 1920-70, sets were built almost as sturdy as normal houses. One reason they adopted the techniques you mentioned is that sets simply didn’t get reused as often as they originally thought and by 1974, many studio backlots had leftovers fifty years old! By 1980, they finally got serious about junking most of them and not making them any more sturdy from now on than has been absolutely necessary. Still, for post apocalyptic scenes, those old, dilapidated structures were PERFECT. The sets needed no touch ups, they were perfect as they were found. But the one that really stood out to me were the scenes in the senate house, when it was revealed that it was the same set used in “Mr Smith goes to Washington”! I love both movies, different as they are. It was a perfect replica of the real senate seat, which they had not been allowed to use. I’m surprised it hadn’t been used in any other political dramas between 1941-1976, but instead left to rot. But it wasn’t TOO rotten, showing how tough the old sets were compared to today.

It's next to modern Salem. I've also been to the Witch House in Salem too. That is the Johnathan Corwin House. He was a judge during the witch trials. There are other 17th century houses in Salem too. It's really something to tour a real house built in the late 1600's.

I love those pine trees around the town. The nature looks so mysterious there, i think it made a lot for the atmosphere of Salem show. Actually a lot of things were great about it, interesting script, amazing actors, costume design; it was dramatic and scary but funny at the same time.. Really good tv series.
Great drone work! And I really appreciated the actual show shots along with what remains. Very nicely done! ❤️, A Dorothy In Red Mary Janes Ps Thanks for reminding me that you never finished the series! Lol

What a truly amazing find, Chris. Your drone shots were great plus having scenes from that Salem Series was terrific!! A real shame to be left to rot. Should be saved for tourist attraction.....Take care...
This is an amazing look into Salam history. As to the water being that close to the town I don’t recall seeing a water front. Now up towards Rock Port for sure. If anyone ends up going up to see the real Salam might I suggest to eat at the Tavern at The Hawthorn Hotel. The food is really good. You can’t go wrong . And there is an evening tour around the town that starts at sunset. This too was well worth the walk about. The guides do dress up in era costumes and use British accent. They are very funny and kept us in stitches the whole time. Thank you again, you have great places that you cover and your filming skills are superb...⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great work with the drone! It really did look like you were walking through it. Very good video, great job showing scenes from the show and what it looks like now.

I would love for the hollywod industry to create a mini French quarter, but usually they just come down to shoot lol
Edit: my god, this is in Louisiana!!!
Well Hollywood south, I'm not surprised, Atlanta has been taking a majority of our filming projects, but Louisiana is bouncing back
And now I must say
The influence of French colonial architecture found in the French quarter
Like the building facades and wooden layouts
French colonial New Orleans would have appeared like this also until the fires of 1788 and 94
Once again, excellent video! Your research and production are great! Thanks for taking the time to do this!
In the area of the poor section where a well is, I noticed the ground is cobble stone. I'm surprised they didn't think of bidding material/wood/door knobs/etc off.
Wow this was and awsome exploration....even with the drone. You really have to see if you can film inside one day. What I really like about your videos is when you show what they looked like in the past. Thanks for sharing mu friend.
I just recently found this channel. Loving it. I traveled a lot during summer vacations. Been to almost all the lower 48. It's fun seeing all the different places I've been or the behind the scenes of the places I've been.
Outstanding! What great photography. Thank you for this.
Fantastic! I loved that show so much... How wonderful to see such an awesome set, something I'd never get to see in person.. thank you so much for showing us round :)
I love those pine trees around the town. The nature looks so mysterious there, i think it made a lot for the atmosphere of Salem show. Actually a lot of things were great about it, interesting script, amazing actors, costume design; it was dramatic and scary but funny at the same time.. Really good tv series.
You do great work
Thanks!
Absolutely terrific. Thanks
And this is why I love RUclips . Great video and content 👍🏻.
I was in all 3 seasons. Even in a few scenes on this video. Great job. Good video. Great memories.
Doubt there's a video you make that everyone doesn't love bro. No matter what it shows. Another gem.
Great drone work! And I really appreciated the actual show shots along with what remains.
Very nicely done!
❤️, A Dorothy In Red Mary Janes
Ps
Thanks for reminding me that you never finished the series! Lol
Really great footage with the drone and comparison footage of then and now! Top notch quality work!
You are the kind of friend I've always wanted to find where I live haha. You're not just a true adventurer but also a super interesting person full of stuff to say. Hanging out with you must be the best experience
That was very well done. The drone footage integrated into the show footage was nicely done. Thank you for sharing.
This is a great perspective to remind us of how much effort is put into constructing our own houses which will last for decades or longer.
I just saw this video last night and it made me want to watch SALEM. Thank you for a “new” show to binge! I’m hooked! 👍🏻😊
What a truly amazing find, Chris. Your drone shots were great plus having scenes from that Salem Series was terrific!! A real shame to be left to rot. Should be saved for tourist attraction.....Take care...
Chris you handle that drone like a boss !!
What's the name of the song, and artist playing at 2:32 while Mrs. Sibley stood on the balcony? I would love to just listen to that song.
Darude - Sandstorm
I love your videos! On occasion. I still love to go back and watch your Mt St Helen’s video that’s my all time favorite! 🤗🤗
Fantastic video! This was just great!
You did this well, a drone always a charm of its own.
Amazing what a few years of hurricanes and neglect can do to a set. Thanks for sharing
Gracias for this video!!! Salem still my favourite show❤.
Great work with the drone! It really did look like you were walking through it. Very good video, great job showing scenes from the show and what it looks like now.
It's a shame that it is falling apart. Great job of putting some of the series into your video. Fantastic job Chris !
I never seen the show, but awesome find, having footage of the show comparing what it looks like now is always interesting to see. Great job. Thanks for the adventure!
Chris, You keep making gems, man. Good Work.
Interesting set. I've never seen the show, but even the clips never would have fooled me into thinking it was Massachusetts, or really anywhere in the Northeast.
This is a very well done video. I think the drone clips add to its sense of mystique.
Never heard of the show but really enjoyed the video. Well done
Thank you for respecting private property. Great drone shots, pro quality.
Loved this show. Thanks for sharing this. With the heat and humidity, this wont last long.
i LOVED this show.. this was amazing footage
Big fish filming site is still up in Millbrook Al.A tornado hit it hard a few years back and we lost the house that he fixed up. ..Jackson island is the site for spectre.
Very cool video! Now I need to look this series up and watch It.
It's on hulu. Not sure about anywhere else
Mobile Instinct I am going to binge watch It tonight ☺️ Thank you!
I think I watched it on Netflix..
Your vids are so refreshing
Very cool. You did a wonderful job comparing then with the actual show footage. Excellent work!
Awesome video I know a lot of Salam Fans will be watching this one. Thank you for sharing and all the information.
love the channel it just gets better, thats nature taking it back...wonder what it will be like in the next 5 years
Impressive filming with a drone. Thanks as always for the effort put into your videos.
Took me about an hour to find the location on google maps.. QUESTION, How the heck do you end up in such hidden locations??!!! Top notch stuff man!
I THINK WE CAN SURMISE THE ANSWER....
Where is it located ? I can’t find it
WHAT ARE THE COORDINATES!?
@RandomAndrew can you please let us know where this is?
@@xcelerationdid you ever find out?
Are none of these buildings safe to use, say for LARPing?
"Someone" should enter and film the interiors.
If they reenforced some of the buildings it'd be a great Airbnb LARPing adventure getaway Really get immursed in the experience of Salem.
Buildings are now unsafe
Inside of the buildings is just a bunch of wood, holding the structures up. They're all just facades. Maybe a few of them weren't.
@@miki_mochi Ah, too bad. But then, not all LARPers are lazy, some are handy and could maybe fix up a house or ten.
Another Great Video!!
I remember the TV series, saw all of them till the end. I would have loved to see the inside of these buildings. They should allow visitors, pay a fee for a guided tour. They probably worried their set might be damaged by vandals.
Thank you so much for your Drone tour. I would have tried getting closer to the windows to see inside. Especially that open kept door. 😁💕
Thank you for this videos !!! Big fan of the tv show ❤
You are really good at what you do. Thanks for sharing your interests with us
Interesting! Very cool video. Thanks
It's ridiculous that they can just leave all of this and not clean it up.
i wish i was rich enough to buy a place like this, restore it and let all my friends and family live there for free as a summer escape... i would def live there forever
really? there?
wish harder babe maybe itll come true
Wait. They ended the show? 😂 That's crazy. Someone should turn it into a theme park!
Was a big fan of the show and the history of Salem in general so this is really awesome to see
Great job. Fun to see movie magic. 💜
this is an awesome video. keep the awesome videos coming
those drones views are just perfect!! You should add more in your future videos :)
