To me, they are known for overselling and underdelivering. Everlasting gobstopper is a good jawbreaker. Multiple flavors with a slightly sour, heavily sweet core. Anything they make is far from the fantasy. Near average candy that is slightly under or over their base.
Ironically, the Wonka brand not being ready for the film release saved the film. People didn't have the preconceptions of it being a feature length advertisement and just saw it as a quality film worth rewatching.
i had no idea they removed the wonka branding from these candies. the only one i really cared for as an adult were the bottle caps and those are a very very rare purchase for me.
Yeah, I work in a Dollar Store & somehow never noticed the difference, either. We sell about half of them- Sweetarts, Gobstoppers, Runts &, occasionally, Nerds & Fun Dip.
Fun fact: I talked with an entertainment lawyer from Netflix who specifically worked with Stranger Things. Apparently they did not ask Eggo for permission to use their product, and Eggo didn’t pay to be featured. When making the show, they honestly didn’t think the Eggo thing would be that big of a deal to viewers
A Hollywood studio as big as Netflix didn’t think product placement like that would be a big deal? Yeah, right! I’m not implying you’re a liar but I do think someone above that lawyer ain’t telling the truth. If you had said this in 1980, I might’ve believed it but not in the 2020s when product placement is engrained into Hollywood the way it is. I can accept that they didn’t know it would explode in popularity the way it did but I don’t buy that they never contacted Eggo and weren’t compensated. Studios just don’t do that. They would’ve just used a generic box of waffles not Eggos… and they wouldn’t have placed such emphasis on the product itself the way they did.
The tiny inclusion of the Wonkanite pet flash game finally solved a childhood mystery for me, thank you so much! For forever I had memories of raising a little pink blob in my gradeschool computer lab. But I was never able to remember the name or find evidence of its existance. I would try to google "willy wonka pet game" and all I would ever find was the nerds based games. It drove me insane.
in the UK, Nestle brought back the Wonka chocolate bar in 2013 - the flavours were Millionaires Shortbread, Nice Cream (vanilla creme topped with chocolate sauce) and Crème Brulee - they were not very good and were discontinued around a year later due to poor sales
I feel like one reason is because American chocolate is very bad in comparison to European/the rest of the world. Look it up, it’s literally different.
I always wished they would have made an edible wallpaper that tasted like fruit. My sisters and I always said that was the most intriguing idea for a product in that if our entire bedroom was fashioned with the appetizing allure of brightly colored fruit we would never run out of the sweet treat lol
The Reverse Product Placement of Wonka candy is certainly an interesting tale, but what _really_ takes the cake is the Reverse Reverse Product Placement (or would it be Closed-System Product Placement) in _Spaceballs._ One of the conditions of the agreement allowing Mel Brooks to create this now-iconic _Star Wars_ parody was that he couldn’t produce or commission any merchandise to promote the film. In response to this, Brooks created a bunch of official Spaceballs merch to put _in_ the movie itself.
I honestly think Cadbury should be producing Wonka chocolate, as it was Cadbury that inspired Dahl to begin with! The chocolate recipe has changed since Dahl's time tho. I'm a Brit and there is a noticeable difference in the chocolate since Modelez bought them out
And then you have the American version of Cadbury where they fuck it up because Hershey bought the rights. I doubt it would be any better in the states than it was described as
@@bunnyfoofoo9695 you do know GMOs are in literally everything and that all of the food we have has been genetically modified in some way even before we figured out a more precise and accurate way to produce the foods we eat. Ignorance is not always bliss when it leads you to fear something needlessly.
I live in the NYC metro, and the big Toys R Us at Times Square (sadly closed December 2015) had a LEGITIMATE Wonka shop (the Wonka shop opened inside in 2010). That place had that Wonka shop, a huge T-Rex animatronic, impressive Lego models, an indoor Ferris wheel, a giant Barbie dollhouse, it had everything. It was heaven for every kid. Growing up, we'd always stop there to get something (usually it was a Lego set like SpongeBob or Indiana Jones) whenever we were in the city, and the store no longer being there and replaced with a Gap and Old Navy just saddens me.
I’ve lived in brooklyn my whole life i remember my mom taking me to the big toys r us to buy something before going to see the rockettes on Christmas the best childhood memories were made there fr
Defunc land did a really good documentary on this, if you haven’t seen it I think you’d love it! He did a podcast interview with one of the managers that had worked there for a decade which is really heartwarming to listen to.
I remember going when I was little and being terrified of the giant T-rex lol. I think I had a nightmare it was chasing me and I hid in the life-size Barbie dream house
My dad worked at Nestle corporation back in the early 2000s and right during the time of the Wonka candy. Looking back some were probably mediocre at best, but my dad always had early access to candy and would bring home tons of treats we couldn’t find in stores. So this era will always be really special to me. Wonka Bars were one of my favorites as a chocolate lover. It was fun & the bits were actual graham cracker as opposed to crisped rice in Crunch Bars (both delicious). & Nerds Ropes will always be iconic imo.
The Charlie & the Chocolate Factory soundtrack remains a masterpiece. I mean the decision to make each song a tribute to a different era of music was perfect. Especially for Mike Teavee to show the many things you could watch on TV, but just because you watch TV doesn't mean you know everything, and that TV can be wrong. Also, who wouldn't want to sing about how great your master is while being burned? Elfman's a genius, big respect for him, especially since he had to compose the music for the movie simultaneously with The Corpse Bride. And most of the lyrics are directly from the book!
One interesting detail is that the red troll creatures from the 3D pyramid game are supposed to represent "Whangdoodles," a creature from Loompaland mentioned but never seen in the original Charlie and The Chocolate Factory book. These were recurring enemies in the Wonka flash games alongside blobby green floating guys with red eyes who were supposed to represent Vermicious Knids, the main antagonists in Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator.
my brother gets marijuana-infused chocolate bars that have the original Wonka labeling. Pretty sure they aren't legitimate, but they definitely capture the whimsical nature of the branding
@@motorsighoyoutube8881 Have you ever touched mushrooms? You realize you can't cook psilocybin right? %99 of the time people eat "mushroom chocolate" they got burnt and either got something wholly different, or they got way too high on weed, and didn't realize how grippy it gets once you actually take WWWWAAAAYYYYYY too much. Also, how the fuck do you think that would even happen? If you think a dealer was selling them, they weren't, or they're stupidly obsessed with branding the shit and wasting their time and effort on a detail his customers don't give a fuck about.
The weird laugh that played occasionally throughout the 3D maze sounded a whole lot like the laugh of King Boo in Luigi’s Mansion. You mentioned that these flash games came out in 2004, which was just 3 years after the release of Luigi’s Mansion, so perhaps it’s possible that the sound was lifted from that game in an attempt to creep out the player.
Too bad you usually don't bring vacuum cleaners on expeditions to ancient ruins, because there are definitely more than just trolls hidden in the shadows...
Yeah it does sound similar! Also I'm pretty sure the random laughing isn't a glitch, but an intentional mechanic to let you know if you're close to finding a key.
Probably not lifted from Luigi's Mansion, more likely that the developers of this flash game had access to the same stock sound library that Nintendo used, or some other sound library that also contained the same laugh.
@@bunwithgun1587 most of them existed before they said wonka on the packaging too, they were just rebranded older products. except for nerds and gobstoppers.
I still completely believe my theory that the whole golden ticket thing was really just a way for Wonka to kill a bunch of kids to use in chocolate and that Charlie only got the factory so he could get away with it
@Professor Oak i mean.. using bone marrow was extremely common in making desserts in early history. Granted it was animal marrow, i’m sure human marrow would work similarly in the wonka world
I actually used to love the 2000’s Wonka bar. They didn’t sell them at very many places in my area, so I would always buy a lot whenever I found them. I miss all the Wonka candies!
I only had the bar once or twice before never seeing it again. I disagree with the video that it was just like a Crunch bar. It has a different flavor and texture entirely from a Crunch bar. It had a slight cinnamon taste to the chocolate.
Have you ever heard of the Wonka banana peel a pop ice cream? It had a candy peel and vanilla ice cream in the center, there was also a grape one. I bought all of them from a discount store when they were being discontinued, just a couple boxes, and I miss them everyday
When it comes to the early Wonka bar, the ingredients shown on the Vanilla bar as shown in the video would indicate the bars were all a kind of taffy/nougat based bar. That would also explain the ability to produce other flavours like Banana and Cherry while using the same base ingredients.
as a kid who saw "ww&tcf" on its opening weekend in 1971, i was all in for the tie-in candy merchandising. two that i remember coming out pretty much concurrent with the release of the film (and which weren't mentioned here) were the super skrunch bar, a chocolate-covered peanut butter and wafers combination (and my personal favorite) and peanut butter oompas, an m&ms-like candy, with chocolate and a peanut butter center in a colored candy shell. good memories.🙂
I saw it immediately in the theater too. I was trying to remember the names of those candies, thanks. I think I had a dollar a week allowance and spent a lot on those like one time but ultimately preferred the more familiar brands.
Tbh I don't really care that roald dahl liked the movie or not. He was a vicious anti-semite and Hitler supporter, and the original charlie and the chocolate factory cast the oompa-loompas as black "African pygmies" who were imported as slaves and paid only in cacao beans who were happy to live in slavery. He wrote a lot of classic books that resonated children and even a short story thats one of the most formative I've ever read, but he wasn't a good person.
Given that the Wonka prequel film starring Timothee Chalamet is coming this year (despite me thinking it’s a terrible idea with no source material), I think it’s safe to say that Wonkamania will become part of the cultural zeitgeist once again.
Why a prequel? Why not do a film on the Glass Elevator? That's an actual sequel book that exists. Ah, right. Nestle can't profit off the vermicious knid merch, it's not candy.
@@Rad-Dude63andathird I’m pretty sure that because he didn’t like how the 1971 movie adaptation of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory turned out, Ronald Dahl stated that no one is allowed to make a movie adaptation of Charlie And The Great Glass Elevator.
They used to make a Chocolate Waterfall bar that was my favorite. It was just milk and white chocolate marbelled together in a "waterfall" of sorts. But I miss it dearly.
Being that Nestle exited the candy business and sold the production rights for all their candy to the Ferrara Candy Company (a division of Ferrero), I’d like to see a new Wonka Bar produced with Ferrara’s chocolate. While I hate Ferrara’s Butterfinger recipe, I’ve found that other former Nestle chocolate bars like Crunch, 100 Grand, and Chunky taste much better now under Ferrara than I remember under Nestle
I remember eating Wonka Bars as a kid…they weren’t that great compared to other chocolate bars, but it was the whole “experience” of it all. The purple wrapping and gold foil also made it very alluring, cause I think it was the only chocolate bar that used that color. And hey, they even had a “golden ticket” promo, so there was the added suspense of opening the wrapper in hopes of MAYBE getting a ticket. 😂
When you asked if the 2000s Wonka bars were any good my knee-jerk reaction was "absolutely!" but now that I think about it, it almost certainly was just nostalgia. Like you, I also watched the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory many times (still love it) and was only 8 when the new chocolate bars were on store shelves so I don't imagine I cared much about how good they were. In my head I was eating the amazing chocolate bar from the movie so it probably seemed better than it actually was...
I’m so glad to hear the games are archived. I can just barely sense an indescribable feeling I haven’t felt since I was 4 that I wish to relive briefly
Flashpoint and its contemporaries are honestly godsends. I’m so glad we’ve been able to save so much flash content, even if it isn’t perfect or quite the same as the original experience in some cases
This was a super good video! I remember candy like Nerds always having the Wonka name, but never realized they had removed it until you pointed it out now. That's crazy to realize suddenly. Keep up the great work uwu
I worked in a candy store for a while. We had the original WW on repeat with no interruptions. I memorized quite a lot. You should also look into Dahl's political/cultural/anti-semitic views. So many hate his guts still.
@@no64256 Well, that and the fact that the Oompa Loompas were literal pigmy slaves Wonka owns, pays in cocoa beans and does dangerous experiments on. He only changed that far, far later to Loompaland after the movie did that one.
I’m not sure if it’s still there, but there was a ride/tour of how hershey’s chocolate is made and it was a similar experience, I’ll never forget the imagery of tubes pumping out perfectly shaped hershey kisses
Love this.... and yes, the family of Dahl have explained that Roald Dahl would have been very pleased of the 2005 Tim Burton adaptation :))) I've been a massive fan of it for over 13 years now, so it's nice to still see videos about the wonderful story
By the way, gobstoppers and laffy taffy are both mentioned in the 2005 movie! But to many people's wrong belief, the walking cane of Burton's Wonka was NOT filled with nerds, but with nonpareils sprinkles instead, as one can sometimes briefly can see when pausing the movie just right.
I don't think Dahl would have liked how they made Willy Wonka into a deranged fool instead of in the original and the book where he is a genius who is in control the whole time
@@samhyde6395 He is in control the whole time?? In 2005 it is VERY obvious that literally everything that is happening is in fact planned. Both Veruca's dad and Mike Teavee point out that the Oompa Loompa songs (which by the way this movie took from the book compared to the weird songs in the old movie) seem rehearsed as if they knew what will happen. He has full control of everything. Secondly, again, literally Dahl's FAMILY openly stated he would have LOVED the 2005 movie since it was MUCH MORE close to his book than the old movie was. Fact check yourself man and read comments more thoroughly
@@insanitired Nah, he's right. Dahl's original Wonka was way more composed and intelligent than the 2005 emotional moron. Suppose that's why you resonate so well with the worst Wonka.
Wonka Bars were my FAVORITE thing as a child and I was so confused and sad when I stopped being able to find them anywhere in the last 2000s/early 2010s. When I got older I realized they just discontinued it, but I actively saw it as the best chocolate when I was younger. Crunch is now actually my candy bar of choice since I can’t get Wonka Bars anymore.
16:25 If you think a game where you'd ride on a skittles highway sounds strange I have a little gem called Darkened Skye, the weirdest licensed skittles game ever made. A completely serious fantasy story where the magic rune stones are literally skittles candy. The art style is bonkers.
I’d always imagined Cadbury chocolate was closer to what real Wonka bars would taste like. US chocolates and other candies always tasted more sugary or waxy than European versions. Maltesers? So much better than Whoppers. Crunchy bars? Not even comparable to terrible Butterfingers.
Glad I'm not the only one who loved Maltesers while they were sold stateside. Basically a better version of Whoppers (which I never liked when I was growing up)
Cadbury are definitely much better than Nestle, I'm pretty sure they even have factory tours just like Wonka (though you don't need a golden ticket it's actually pretty easy to book tickets for a tour) i'm sure you even get a few samples to take home too.
The Wonka name was retroactively applied to a lot of those candies when Nestlé purchased them from other companies (sweet tarts, Laffy taffy etc). They definitely didn't have the Wonka name when I was little. But the original Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory is still one of my favorite movies ever.
I spent a truly ludicrous amount of time as a kid on the Wonka website which I seem to remember having a sort of adventure game aspect to it. That's where a majority of those flash games came from. And was made significantly before the new movie, hence why the characters looked the way they did.
Agree. The Wonka bar was the best chocolate and delivered in terms of feeling like it was a quality, magical candy bar. I was floored to learn from this video that the original Gene Wilder version wasn't the idea Dahl had in mind. I'm one of those born in the 60s adherent, and not fond of the Depp version. Go figure
I’m an Aussie and we actually got some really interesting Wonka bars like ones with cookies and chocolate syrup If I remember correctly, there was the occasional contest where you could create your own Wonka Bar by choosing three ingredients to put in it
Hi! At 9:37 you discuss one of the Wonka Chocolates that Australia once had (e.g. Nutty Crunchilicious). I can confirm that these chocolates were one of the best me and my family used to have, considering that it wasn’t a full on repackaging of other Australian chocolate brands. Hope they bring it back; they were so good!
I remember the Wonka Bars made by Nestle in the 2000s and I enjoyed them when they were available. I even remember seeing them with wrappers based on the 2005 Charlie And The Chocolate Factory movie around Christmas that same year.
I love that you mentioned the Laffy Taffy maze game, I never beat it as a kid because I was terrified of the red monster. I also remember the 3D Sweettarts game and one where you had to rotate pipes so the chocolate flowed through.
Willy Wonka was absolutely iconic with being associated with delicious candy I remember loving the 90's and 00's Willy Wonka chocolate candies when I was a kid and teenager.
Dude I was OBSESSED with the 2005 movie when I was little, and Wonka in general. Child me didn't care if the Wonka bars weren't that great. If the candy had the Wonka name, I'd still get it. I even dressed up as the Depp version of Wonka for TWO STRAIGHT YEARS in elementary school (face paint to look paler, the cane, and everything!). I think older folks don't want to admit the new one is better because it's too modern. Which I get. Though while I respect Gene Wilder, I think Depp fit the creepy Wonka vibe better, because Wonka was MEANT to be a creepy character in the book. And if they don't like the 2005 movie, they shouldn't be blaming Burton, but Dahl's family. Roald may not be around, but I'm sure he would've enjoyed it as much as many of us have. Another prize I remember from the Wonka bars were American Idol tickets. But I ESPECIALLY remember these Wonka Flash games. The SweeTARTS drove me insane because of the obstacles. And the Laffy Taffy pyramid gave me nightmares, and yet I still played them because they were that good. This video was such a nostalgia trip and warmed my heart. Well done!
Here’s to hoping that the new Willy Wonka movie coming out this year (‘WONKA’ directed by Paul King) inspires some companies to start producing Wonka bars again!
Love your stuff! RUclips recommend your school lunches vid to me and I’ve loved all the stuff you’ve put out. Very nostalgic. I like your format too. Hopefully the almighty algorithm continues to help you out!
My brain just unlocked all sorts of memories when you showed the picture of the Donutz. I high key miss a lot of candy from my childhood, like how tf did Kinder last so long when Kissables died?
@@eatatjoes6751 You mean there isn't a multimillion, money laundering scheme centred around candy? i thought that was the plot to all of roald dahl's books
Omg I’m so glad you did this video! I remember playing the 3D Sweet Tarts game like crazy in afterschool daycare! Also I remember back in 2005 actually buying a Wonka Bar from the Candy Store on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World! Such a strange candy
The Primary Games Wonka Pyramid Game is such a deep cut to my childhood, it legit unlocked a whole batch of memories that I had completely forgotten about, it's so cathartic to know that someone else knows that game exists haha 😆
I was nine when the 2004 one came out and I definitely remember the Wonka "Fudgemallow Delight" bars with Johnny Depp on them. Being from the UK we never really (to my understanding at least) had any "Wonka" related products until the movie came out. I personally prefer the newer one but that's because we never really watched the older one; my main memory is of Augustus Gloop going up the pipe
Me too, I liked the chocolate bars. However, I'd like to say I prefer the 1971 film rather than the 2005 one. Idk, Gene Wilder designed his Wonka costume himself. I like Johnny Depp, but I don't think he came across as Wonka to me. Plus the 1971 film was a lot more colourful imo. But I wish they could bring the chocolate bars back! I was born in '92 so I guess I'm more familiar with the earlier one.
I remember seeing the Wonka candies a long time ago. I never had a Wonka bar, but I did occasionally eat Nerds, Sweettarts, and Laffy Taffy. It's been a long time since I ate any of those, so I didn't notice that the Wonka brand was dropped. The 1971 movie is a childhood favorite of mine. While I initially didn't like the 2005 movie as much as the 1971 movie, after recently re-watching 2005 movie I actually think it's pretty good in its own way. I still think the 1971 version does some things better, but there are other things that the 2005 version does better. I think a lot of people prefer the 1971 version simply because it's more nostalgic and/or iconic. Which is a shame because I think the 2005 version is underrated and/or over-hated. Also, did you know that there are slot machines based off of the 1971 movie? I saw them at Winstar.
i always thought the wonka logo being on a bunch of candies was something i dreamt of when i was a kid, it's been bothering me for years..good to know i wasn't crazy lol
The products she mentioned not being mentioned in the story weren't in the story because they were products that were rebranded as Wonka to try and cash in on they name. They existed long before they got the Wonka logo. Some have been around since the 60s and 70s, and were their licenses, and original companies, were bought by nestle
You just brought back so many memories of the promotions they did for the 2005 adaptation. I LOVED the Wonka bars! And the Donutz! One would have thought that with the new movie coming out, there would have been a Wonka bar return.... But all we got were gummy hats and an IHOP menu. 🙄
OMG! My favorite movie is Fried Green Tomatoes and I would watch it over and over as a kid. I"VE NEVER met anybody else who also watched that growing up and loved it. So awesome to see this. I literally have a "Fried Green Tomatoes" poster from the VHS advertisement at home.
this video dug up some ancient memories i had completely forgotten i had. those wonka flash games were a huge hit with child me. There used to be a whole wonka website that they were hosted in and found through some candy aesthetic menu system? i have no idea how i found that website though. The wonka website was where i first saw a lot of now popular optical illusions for some reason? i distinctly remember the "which line is longer psych theyre the same length" thing with that specific cartoon willy wonka...
Your channel is so underrated!! You’ve quickly become one of my new favorite RUclipsrs even though your channel is pretty new. Your videos are very polished and well made, and I like to put them on as background when I’m doing boring activities lol. Keep up the amazing work!! ❤
When I was in high school I remember one of my buddies showing me Wonka ice cream. IIRC the one I had was vanilla ice cream with bits of chocolate-covered potato chips. It was really good with that sweet/salty combo.
At last I get to rant about that god damn Laughy Taffy game! There was a very weird glitch at the end of the first level, just after the taffy swing section. One of those creatures would always spawn around the corner and get stuck in the flashlight eating cutscene, basically softlocking you. Me and my mom spent so many hours after school trying to get past it! Like 2 years later they someone apparently fixed it and we were so excited to finally finish the game lol
The people who claimed that Wonka's chocolate was the greatest in the world has _clearly_ never eaten a Lindt Milk Chocolate truffle in their entire life.
Yoooo, I grew up in Switzerland and live in the Philippines now and everyone just wants Toblerone. I personally don't like it that much but Lindt is like on another level l, it's unfair. I love it so much, and I'm happy when my mom sends chocolates that are not the basic Toblerone.
I'm so glad you included the video game section because I have such fond memories playing the Shockwave Wonka games. Glad to see some of them were preserved.
Chocolate is more expensive than you'd expect. Cacao plants need to grow in tropical environments, their fruits harvested at perfect times, their seeds need to be fermented, dried, roasted, and husked before they're recognizable as cocoa beans. Then they're ground into powder, mixed with other ingredients, and chilled to get chocolate. There's also something optional called "tempering" which is basically strategically raising and lowering the temperature of the mixture right before molding in order to get that amazing melt-in-your-mouth texture. Did I say "right before?" I meant starting several hours before. Anyways, if you're wondering why so much chocolate isn't expensive, it's because most store chocolate uses just a little cacao.
My brother LOVED those original Wonka bars, we could only find them at Toys R US. We would also play that creepy maze game and scream in terror when we saw the red monster
I love how Wayne's World has become the go to example of product placement. And like yeah, of course it was intentional. But like idunno it's just so special for reason and i can't explain it right now
Some of those non-chocolate candies were not originally made by Nestle and existed on their own, and were only branded as Wonka for short periods on and off, I'm assuming it's a matter of licensing deals coming and going. Some were independent brands that Nestle acquired and absorbed over the years, which is why they have nothing to do with the book. Looks like if Nestle acquired a brand that had a certain kooky vibe they added it the wonka line. Fun Dip for example is from the 50's. Laffy Taffy was two completely different products with different ingredients. The wide flat bars were first but were not called Laffy Taffy in the 80's. It was Stretchy and Tangy Taffy by the brand Sunshine. Then Laffy Taffy came out as cubes sold by the piece, then those disappeared and it changed to the small flat pieces and ropes. Later they absorbed the older Sunshine taffy (The large wide flat bars) and rebranded it as Laffy Taffy but kept the same formulation. You'll notice the ropes and small strips are mild and similar to Starburst in texture but the wide large bars are much tangier with a stronger flavor and have a creamy almost fluffy texture. These wide bars are one of my favorite candies on earth and it would come and go throughout the 80's and 90's. It would disappear for years at a time. Whenever we traveled as a kid, I searched for it at every stop. Thank you for reading this rant from a middle aged candy lover.
Making irl Wonka candy was a genius marketing move, but I don't think they would've ever lived up to the hype considering how good the stuff in the book is described as. It's the same issue with irl Krabby Patties, it'd disappoint no matter what.
One product placement item I missed out on was Nuka-Cola Quantum by The Jones Soda company back when Fallout 4 was released but now I have bottles of their Nuka-Cola Victory probably a tie in for the Fallout TV series.
I might be dumb but is right to consider wonka candies as one of the first or most iconic ARG campaigns from a corporate business. Although like a golden ticket wouldn’t actually get you to the factory, $10,000 is pretty badass and would probably get you in any chocolate factory around the world. Beside that point i think quaker or nestle was defiantly thinking ahead of its time. I’m just stuck on if this was just a competition or a considerable ARG for its time. LMAO
i TOTALLY forgot about the limited edition tie-in candies promoting the 2005 movie. i think i only got the Wonka bar once or twice (i probably didn't care for the graham cracker) but the donut was my favorite. haven't thought those in nearly 20 years.
Oh my god, I thought I was the only person who remembered that 3D Pyramid Challenge game. Thank you for reawakening one of my darkest childhood memories
Speaking of Willy Wonka games, I remember Poptropica having a Willy Wonka themed island. It's an flash game, where you go on different islands to complete story quest. Although poptropica still works, the island is gone now.
Both me and my sister won the willy Wonka movie promotion but we were stupid and threw out the tickets not knowing about the promotion. We only ended up finding one but we hate ourselves everyday for that moment
Fun fact, I actually had one of the golden tickets but was told to "throw it away it's fake" by my dad and was forced to. Shortly after my dad bought a new SUV, now I'm not pointing any fingers but he has done things like burning a car for insurance money (with all my DS games in it) and sold my stuff behind my back and kept the money so I have a good idea what happened to it
I remember consuming and enjoying very few Wonka chocolate bars during my childhood, much like the Kellogg's Cereal Straws, Oreo Cakes, or the DQ Blizzard cupcakes with edible cup later on. Since then, The Wonka Bar has been nothing but a blurred memory locked away in my head. It's also worth mentioning that one of the Disney Adventures magazine has an Advert for a small series of LCD Game + Candy dispenser hybrids known as 'WonkaZoids'. To me at the time, it's pretty much one of the best things they've come up with, and I'm surprised almost no one has been talking about it.
12:13 Ohhh my god you just unlocked an insane memory. I didn't even know this was a Wonka game. Pretty much my brother found it and I watched him play it. Lemme tell you, just watching him go through the maze put me on edge. And when that red creature started approaching? Genuinely terrifying. There's a reason I forgot this game
Yes! Primary games!!! I think that for some reason, the staff at my elementary school thought the games there were educational so we got to play them for many computer classes. I loved the Wonka section!!! My very favorites were the CraY Candy Creation game where you got to create your own character at the start and your own candy after each level, and Ride The Wave!

Kinda reminds me of how the Golden Nugget casino got featured in Street Fighter II.

The tiny inclusion of the Wonkanite pet flash game finally solved a childhood mystery for me, thank you so much! in the UK, Nestle brought back the Wonka chocolate bar in 2013 - the flavours were Millionaires Shortbread, Nice Cream (vanilla creme topped with chocolate sauce) and Crème Brulee - they were not very good and were discontinued around a year later due to poor sales
I feel like one reason is because American chocolate is very bad in comparison to European/the rest of the world. Look it up, it’s literally different.

The weird laugh that played occasionally throughout the 3D maze sounded a whole lot like the laugh of King Boo in Luigi’s Mansion. You mentioned that these flash games came out in 2004, which was just 3 years after the release of Luigi’s Mansion, so perhaps it’s possible that the sound was lifted from that game in an attempt to creep out the player.

One can hope!!! I hope they bring back the bars and the chocolate donuts.

One of those creatures would always spawn around the corner and get stuck in the flashlight eating cutscene, basically softlocking you. Me and my mom spent so many hours after school trying to get past it! Like 2 years later they someone apparently fixed it and we were so excited to finally finish the game lol
The random laughs in that Laffy Taffy maze might be to help locate the Laffy Taffy walls so you can solve it.
Kazoozles changing to sweet tart ropes was the biggest culture shock for me
The people who claimed that Wonka's chocolate was the greatest in the world has _clearly_ never eaten a Lindt Milk Chocolate truffle in their entire life.
Oh those things are so freaking good, I get a big metal ball of those things for Christmas every year
Princessa chocolate beats all
The only thing I’ve had from Lindt was their dark chocolate and it tasted like freeze-dried bile.
@@toddjones1480 Dark chocolate is garbage, full stop.
13:47 isn’t that just a slightly edited version of King Boo’s laugh from Luigi’s Mansion?
We would also play that creepy maze game and scream in terror when we saw the red monster
the wonka bar making kit at 3:04 unlocked a hidden memory for me lmaooo, im absolutely certain i had one of those as a kid
I love how Wayne's World has become the go to example of product placement. And like yeah, of course it was intentional. But like idunno it's just so special for reason and i can't explain it right now
I too was terrified of the temple maze with the giant red trolls and avoided it as much as I could. it's just so claustrophobic!!!
Thank you for reawakening one of my darkest childhood memories
the laffy taffy maze game!! i was obsessed with that as a kid! i still have intrusive thoughts about it tbh
We only ended up finding one but we hate ourselves everyday for that moment
and then everyone clapped
@@Vichroma and then your parents praised you
Wow...this brought so much nostalgia from playing these games as a kid... I thought all this was buried in my memories forever.
a hershey's Symphony bar is my headcanon for what Wonka bars taste like
Fun fact, I actually had one of the golden tickets but was told to "throw it away it's fake" by my dad and was forced to. Shortly after my dad bought a new SUV, now I'm not pointing any fingers but he has done things like burning a car for insurance money (with all my DS games in it) and sold my stuff behind my back and kept the money so I have a good idea what happened to it
They really need to bring back Wonka bars someday .
With the new Timothee Chalamet movie, maybe they will
They're still sold in a shop in my town 💃🏽
Counterfeit Wonka bars sounds like it belongs in the movie, not IRL....
You got a good voice for these types of videos. Genuinely surprised by the quality of this one. Great job!
