i always heard “you’re not mine” instead of “do not mind,” like i genuinely thought she was saying “ur not my child anymore” cuz she was disowning u for ur bad cooking💀
ME TOO 😂
Lmao
😭😭😭
"Do not mind" is an Engrish phrase that basically means "no big deal", because even if you make a mistake, she'll help you.
I genuinely thought it WAS “you’re not mine” until right now 😅
I can still hear “wow! Even better than mama!” Perfectly in my head as if no time has passed
same
@@popsmaellard725same
SAMEEE
Sometimes I say it to my younger coworkers and every time it makes me sad they don’t know what I’m referencing lmao
@@aliencafe I'm gonna start doing this thank you for reminding me of a childhood memory
I will never forget the “DO NOT SHAKE THE BABY” message that would pop up on babysitting mama. That raw chicken baby scared me.
I WAS HOPING SOMEBODY IN THE COMMENTS WOULD MENTION THIS
I came down to the comments instantly to see if someone said this 😭I never had the baby toy part since my mom bought the wii disk for me secondhand, and every time I moved the remote Mama yelled at me for shaking the baby. The game was literally unplayable for me without the baby attachment as Mama was convinced I was shaking the baby I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE
mama is definitely 'do not mind!' theres also phrases like 'donmai' in japanese usually mean 'dont worry' so she is just being encouraging and telling you to keep going and isn't disowning you LOL
This! Genuinely don't understand how anyone could hear anything else, kinda odd.
I definitely hear “Do not mind!”
I always heard "good, not mine"
Mama really named her kids “Strawberry” and “Apple” 😭
STOPPPP 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💀💀💀
I mean
Jamie Oliver did close to the same thing
In her defense, Ichigo and Ringo sounds like cool cute names 😅
In her defence her parents called her Mama.
In her defense, my name is Olive
i think cooking mama is genuinely the reason i’m doing catering in college
As a Cooking Mama: Cook Off childhood fanatic, I am now a Culinary Major. I was making cream puffs in class and all I could hear was the haunting echo of the 'display results' music in the back of my mind
i also loved all the cooking related games as a kid, purble place was a fave as well as the build-a-bear DS game where u could build cakes. Can’t forget the OG, diner dash that kickstarted it all. I’ve been a baker now since 2019 after making my way through various food jobs in my youth.
It’s cooking mama and this mickey kitchen game i had as a kid for ps1 i also did a food based study.
same!!! cooking mama!!! purble place!! papas ria., sarias cooking class!!!
now here i am doing culinary school and im so Happy
It's honestly interesting when you get into proper story of cooking games, from cooking mama simply being about a mother who has a happy family with a pet to Papa Louie that has coins that literally can warp someone through universes (it gets even more confusing from there) I just love them now just as much as I used to
cooking games sometimes have the most boring and light lore ever and some of the most wacky crap ive ever seen in some games
there’s not that much lore left, so imo not that more confusing
@@muffin8460 I mean with Freezeria Deluxe coming soon flipline did state on their blog there will be a story like cluckeria, so there will be a little bit of new lore
Freezeria Deluxe??? :O Damn that’s gonna be fun! I’d love to see that!
@@georgiagalaxy they're developing a new version of freezeria for steam atm
I thought Mama was saying “do not cry” like you were about to sob over your mistake and she was calming you down
To be fair, I actually would cry if I ruined dinner. I can't imagine the pain that the person in the "Lasaga" meme felt 😭 It's only funny if you're not personally going through it
The Cooking Mama and Science Papa beef is a fantastic piece of lore. I love it so much
Never played this but I can see my dad and older brothers being like, "Why don't you play the real life version and make us dinner?"
Lmao imagine if real life cooking was like Cooking Mama. I'd be a god level chef 😒
LMAO that'd exactly what my family would say
Trust me they would they always do 😔
They'd take a wiimote to the dome for that 💀
You should be like, "Sure!" And then just cook one serving of something you love for yourself. And then tell them what a great idea it was 🙃
I never knew I needed Mama scathingly insulting her ex Science Papa, but now I do
She also outright exploited and roasted PeTA on a press-release for World Kitchen and has to be seen to be believed! 😄
Cooking Single Mama lmaoo
That CallMeKevin baby punting clip was so unexpected in this context but exactly what I was thinking about the whole time you were talking about it 😆
What’s time timestamp?
@@aquaabouttogetfunky 15:32
Kevin's video was my first thought when she mentioned Babysitting Mama.
Him punting the baby is such an iconic moment in RUclips history
@@ImaginaryAlchemistme too, honestly
😂😂😂😂 Kevo
Have you ever played SpongeBob's Beach Party Cookoff for the DS? It's basically SB Cooking Mama and is everything you'd want.
Hey Vail love your videos
Can't say I expected to see you here man haha
Yeah! I’ve played it, it’s honestly pretty decent.
Also hi vail I love your videos :3
Omg I've played that when I was a kid!
HOLY FUCK
Can we also talk about the response to the PETA game? Mama just wants guests to feel happy, and leave her table well fed. She would cater to anyone's taste or preference of meal and has a ton of recipes for anyone to enjoy. That's such a nice press release and not at all what I expected. It's so pleasant and warm.
Doesn't work anymore due to either flash dying or them taking the games down out of fear of being sued. 90% their propaganda games don't work anymore for that reason
Lol the PETA game is how i met this game and it was a game that boys in my class liked to play because killing the bird and all the gore was fun for them so I think it had the opposite effect anyway. Most PETA games were just for edgy kids that enjoyed killing cartoon animals and also f*ck PETA for traumatizing kids and killing dogs.
I was a little young when I stumbled across the PETA parody games and I either fully accepted them to be original content or edgy fan-games (for the era and type of kid I was, morbid topics used casually in online media wasn't uncommon.) I didn't know that Cooking Mama was a real game, so I totally thought that it was just a cute-morbid cooking game (I was also the type of kid who skipped all dialog until I got to the actual game, so I wouldn't have noticed if there were any lines directly about PETA or being anti-animal-product.) To this day, every time I see Cooking Mama I think first of my initial impression, am usually very confused because all other context implies nothing about being grotesque or edgy, then I remember the actual original game is nothing like that lmfao.
I once played the PETA game though, it was before I played cooking mama, the only reason I played it was because it was gory
as a kid i played their mario bros parody with those two chickens protesting kfc. i actually really liked it tbh mostly because i got to be an animal instead of a human and the chickens were girls. i don’t remember it being super gory until near the end but it didn’t bother me much since i was already fully immersed in creepypasta at this point. i also remember agreeing with the games general message, this was before i knew about peta as a whole and their… antics
My sister and I were JUST reminiscing about the DS Cooking Momma and we both heard “You’re not mine,” as if our mistake was so bad she was disowning us as her child. Like no child of mine could possibly be so terrible at this!
Is kinda ironic that I discovered Cooking Mama trough Peta's parody, and even more ironical is that I really liked it when I was a kid 💀
Oh me too. I found that creepy turkey one and liked it
Same 😭 I didn't even know it was trying to be against anything I thought it was just mildly gross LOL
Let's be honest, we all did discovered cooking mama trough peta's parody
Saaaaame 😭😭😭
Same!! Maybe I was weird but the meat turkey looked more appetising than the tofu turkey to me
I like the style of content you make. It's not all in-your-face, and is more chill. Amazing content for listening too and watching, the editing is charming!
Good show!
Agreed
@@CinostheHodgeheg :)
yes
Maybe this is not everyone’s cup of tea , but maybe Cooking Mama can have its own VR game I’d imagine many people would have fun playing a type of game like that :D
That could actually be pretty fun! Cooking Simulator VR was fairly popular so I'm sure it'd have an audience
True true
That would be sick ngl, and I think there's an audience for it for sure
I'm the audience for it I would buy all the copies of it
I love Cooking Mama a lot! I've actually cosplayed her before pre-pandemic at a local anime con, complete with a basket of homemade cookies I gave out on the con floor and during a panel. So many people wanted to hug me and get pictures, it was so fun.
waaait that’s so cute 😭😭
Cooking Mama will always be one of the games I always will respect. The game keeps it's charm of feeling like you're playing decades ago, and the game doesn't shove ads in your face. It's worth spending money on.
Cooking Mama is one of the most greatest video games of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and theme such as the spin-offs. It was decent. To this day I still play it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍😎👍💯
She 100% says don’t mind. The game being from Japan, and the phrase being commonly used there [along with her accent and pitch] I can say pretty confidently that she’s saying don’t mind and they just didn’t switch the audio from the original Japanese version. As for the off looking babies, they’re designed to have big round heads and large eyes on purpose as that is part of the chibi style they were going for. Loved the video and found it very interesting!
the phrase "do not mind" is definitely correct, since in Japanese people very often say "no mind, no mind" as in "pay this no mind/it's no big deal!"
I have the memory of Mama just freaking out when I completely failed but when I went back to playing it last year, she didn't yell or freak out or anything. Also, I would run around my house yelling "WOW, EVEN BETTER THAN MAMA!" for a full year for absolutely no reason.
In Japanese, a common phrase used to encourage someone when they’re doing a bad job is ドンマイ (donmai), which is from the English phrase “don’t mind”.
I very much appreciate you adding the clip of Kevin lovingly taking care of his son
He is an outstanding father
"Do not mind" is actually a weird thing in Japanese, where even though it's taken from English, it doesn't mean the same thing. It basically means "no worries" xD
Isn't that what it usually means anyway?
@@grylltheonion to an English person, “do not mind” means the same thing, but it sounds rude or abrupt to us. Or like a robot. We would say “I don’t mind.”
Ahh, Cake Mania, a staple of my childhood. Cake Mania, plus Diner Dash were my first childhood views into the stress of customer service.
the original cooking mama was my favorite game when i was little, i would play it for hours and hours. i also remember gardening mama, i remember there being a place where you could dress mama up which of course i loved as a kid...
I remember playing Cooking Mama and Cooking Mama Cook Off, and I was aware of Gardening Mama, but camping, crafting, and babysitting mama were completely new to me, I had no idea they existed before this video
i just enjoy how the "mama-verse" is a thing
Glad you brought up Papa Louie! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Papa games. My personal favorites are Papa's Scooperia and Papa's Cupcakeria.
the way I was so jealous of my school friends who had cooking mama on their Nintendos. I was out here with imagine babysitter 😭 I just wanted to cook fake food like all the other kids 😂
To me it looks like when you make a mistake and Mama’s eyes go fiery, she’s not angry; she’s determined and protective. She says she’ll help you fix whatever you messed up right next to her, and her stance is one of confidence rather than frustration. I don’t think she’s upset with the player at all!
I saw this, trying to find a video worthy of my chip snacking, and I found this video. A 20 MINUTE DREAM JELLY VIDEO
ABOUT COOKING MAMA
Thanks for making my day better whenever I get that notification saying that you uploaded :)
I will never forget my little brother crying so hard one day and when I asked him why it was bc "cooking mama has fire in her eyes" which still makes me laugh
I love this video so much!! This might be TMI, but I'm recovering from anorexia and during my recovery I've been playing a lot of Cooking Mama for the 3DS (Sweets Shop specifically) and as silly as it sounds - it has helped me in my relationship with food! I was always a huge fan of the series. Thank you for bringing attention to these games!!
I love this! Well done❤
cooking mama 3: shop in chop was literally my childhood, i still hear the title in my head every now and then. i remember mama’s anger when i fucked up the eggs, and her praise when i chopped the carrots good. thank you mama, for inspiring my love for food🥰
I replayed cooking mama cook off recently just to dick around and it's the perfect example of wii motion control difficulty curve. They're difficult but in a game like cooking mama it's something that gets easier the more you use it. The most important thing I keep telling people is that a lot of wii games really don't like sudden movement; you can be fast as long as you aren't sharp or sudden
The vibes of your videos are so good. Great stuff to chill out to and learn about random shit.
cooking mama got a chokehold on me
Fun fact: while there might not be a TV show for cooking mama, there is a miniseries called cooking mama world. It never aired on tv, and instead was watchable online via RUclips (official uploads are now gone, but there is a recording of all of them,) and they were featured in Let’s Cook, one of the mobile games.
my mom got me science papa for wii after she saw how much i loved the wii cooking mama. i don't remember enjoying it much, it was pretty confusing even for someone who was very good at cooking mama wii
I never grew up with cooking mama, but I did grow up with a game called Sarah's cooking class. It was like cooking mama except Sarah didn't really give you advice. She kinda just stood there while you tried to get your cursor/mousepad to move fast enough for the timer not to run out. There's like millions of games where you could cook soups, cakes, etc. Personally my favorite games were the ones where you could make cookies and decorate them afterward.
Oh my gosh! I loved Sarah's Cooking Class in addition to Cooking Mama! I love how realistic the gameplay of the recipes was since they actually taught me the basics of cooking and baking along with Cooking Mama. Unlike Cooking Mama, though, Sarah's Cooking Class games almost always had written recipes with real-life instructions that were viewable either before and/or after the game
I remember seeing a let's play of Babysitting Mama back in 2012. The controls were so sensitive and Mama kept telling you not to shake the baby, even if you didn't. It was very frustruating.
“NO NO NO! PLEASE DON’T SHAKE THE BABY!”
But have you tried not shaking the baby?
_[clip of CallMeKevin kicking the raw chicken baby into oblivion starts playing]_
I'm looking at Cooking Mama Cookstar gameplay and reviews *right now* and you posted this, what a scary coincidence lol.
Honestly sucks that the whole permission and licensing shenanigans happened with Cooking Mama Cookstar at all (added that the game is mediocre too). I'd love a new Cooking Mama game made specifically for the Switch, but I feel like Office Create would never make one especially if they're still profitting off the mobile game. I unironically love and played the hell out of the Cooking Mama series on the DS so much, including its spin-offs as a kid lol.
The Cookstar game looks mid, though I've never tried it or really looked into it (so I could be wrong). It just looks like it's trying to be as trendy as possible with smartphones and rainbow sandwiches.
It might be slightly embarrassing to admit but Cooking Mama is easily one of my favorites videogame series! I played all the DS games and actually learned many skills, especially with the crafting one (some crafts do double as full tutorials and it was awesome for little me at the time). It's only thanks to Cooking Mama if I enjoy making delicious meals so much💖
Edit: my dad, being a huge nerd, got me Science Papa too and I loved that game as a kid🥺 I loved getting all the weird requests through mail
I remember when I was little my mom got me cooking mama 3 as a spring break gift. I remember looking through the instructional booklet and crying at the warning “if you have epilepsy consult your doctor before playing this game” because I was like 7 and didn’t know what epilepsy was but my mom assured me I was fine.
Also the shopping minigame scared me
I genuinely learned how to cook and cut some things from playing so much cooking mama growing up. To this day I cut onions and wash rice just like mama taught me hahaha
i got cookstar pretty much right when it came out, it had some issues before updates, but it’s fine now. The vegan mode doubles the number of recipes, so i don’t really think there’s a problem with the amount of content.
the apple arcade game is a lot better than i expected it to be!! only having certain ingredients/tools every day works really well for an app.
lifelong cooking mama player so im right btw
omg for the longest time i thought mama would say "you're not mine" in the wii game and it made me SO upset because i thought she was disowning me for being so bad at cooking 😭
My mind was blown when you mentioned that she says ‘do not mind’ because me and my siblings. Always thought she said ‘eww not mine!’ 😂😂😂 I think I like our version of it better, so many hilarious memories attached to those incorrectly heard words 😂
Ok but Mama tearing into Science Papa is so funny and its not even all that out of character?? Like have you ever _met_ a stay-at-home PTA-type mom? They can roast you in ways that will utterly change you as a person.
The peta knockoff was my first and probably only introduction to the cooking mama franchise, so I’ve subconsciously assumed cooking mama was a graphic and violent game for almost my entire life. I didn’t know it was a knockoff so I was so confused when you were talking about how wholesome this game was lol
The Call Me Kevin clip was the first thing that came to my mind when you mentioned Babysitting Mama. So happy you included it 😂❤
as soon as you started talking about babysitting mama i immediately thought of callmekevin punting the baby across his backyard 👍
Or RT putting his baby in the blender lol
Or RT putting his baby in the blender lol
LMAOO I THOIGHT THE PETA PARADY WAS WHAT COOKING MAMA WAS WHEN I WAS LITTLE CUZ I PLAYED IT ON SOME RANDOM GAME WEBSITE ON ACCIDENT 😭
Your editing is amazing! Your videos always get me hooked into the weirdest things lol. I love the little gags as well! What software do you use?!
For YEARS I thought the Peta knockoff was the real game because my only exposure to the franchise ever was JackSepticEye playing that version. I was a little traumatised as a kid, and definitely didn't understand how anybody could like the series until I found out that the Peta game he played wasn't the real Cooking Mama :')
I love watching your videos on my big screen TV. They're always such a comfort to watch! Thank you for the amazing content.
Another video in my playlist: Every Dream Jelly video, so this awesome channel doesn’t get lost mediated in 100 years
I recently found your channel and I love your videos!!! It hits a very specific spot in my brain and I just love everything about your content!!
Ngl your videos encapsulate my childhood really well,
XD ngl they're hella relaxing to watch
When she said "You're not mine", I thought she was disowning you as a student for making a mistake
I am so happy to have found a community and a content creator that was (or still is) into all of these virtual cooking adventures. I honestly sill sometimes install games like these or pull out my DS for nostalgia's sake
i love mama !! thank you for another wonderful trip down memory lane
I'm such a fan of your content Jelly! 💗 Cooking Mama makes me feel so nostalgic.
last year I bough again all the mama ds games and it feels so good. also this video makes me feel so good like hearing someone talking about cooking mama for 30 minutes sounds so satisfying, thank you
I love your content so much, I think you might be one of my favourite youtubers!
For me, the cooking mama games are cozy and easy, Mama praising me just feels nice and the food looks delicious.
I used to work at a used video game store and once we got in a copy of Babysitting Mama with the Baby and everything.
Had to work for a good five months with that thing staring right at me until someone finally bought it 😂
Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals was my first and only introduction to the franchise so needless to say, his was way more wholesome than I thought it would be
Ahh I just found the kind of channel my soul has been craving for..... Thanks for the amazing high quality content!
19:17 this quote had me instantly subscribe! Your content is awesome!
I loved cooking mama as a kid, it was my first video game I really played. I played the original one the most, but I got the crafting one later down the line. I just loved how satisfying making the food was and I still enjoy playing the game nowadays
Omg my older sister had babysitting mama, I have heard “no no no do not shake the baby” more times than I should have
Mama roasting her rip-off and adding more lore to the series at the same time is a energy I want to achieve in my life
Thank you for this video! The wiki part with all the episode names is so funny because I had totally convinced myself Gardening Mama had a whole story tied into it somehow. I bought the Cookstar game on the Switch expecting some sort of story or level system and I was sorely disappointed. I hope gardening Mama comes back one day because those were definitely my favorite games of the series!
Soooo much nostalgia. I LOVE cooking mama. I had all of the main series and sweet shop.
I came across the Peta Cooking Mama game on some flash game website when I was younger. Idk if it was because it was completely divorced of the Peta website, but I absolutely did not get the message they were trying to put across. I remember having a bunch of fun plucking the turkey, and it started my love for cooking games. So...
ty for unlocking a core memory for me with the beginning games intro :)
Just found your video from a RUclips recommendation. It's been so long since I played Cooking Mama. Time to dust off my DS, thank you for covering Cooking Mama!
If you can, I would love to see you cover more cooking/food themed games.
Fun fact, "Ichigo" and "Ringo" are the Japanese words for "strawberry" and "apple" respectively! Her children are named after fruit!
Who else thinks Papa's Freezeria is the best game on Cool Math Games
Thank you for including the Kevin Kicks a Baby clip
she does say do not mind!! and the fire in her eyes is supposed to show her determination to help you improve, not anger
the intro just brought back a lot of memories. i used to play so much cake mania and cake factory as a kid, and i had completely forgotten about it until just now
I always thought she was saying “you, not mine” as if to say that it was MY mistake and not hers in broken English bc it wasn’t her first language
hey, i LOVE your videos! and it's just awesome to listen to your voice while i'm doing homework xD
u kno its a good day when dream jelly uploads
i am so tickled that you included that CMK clip. it was the first thing i saw in my mind when the baby game popped up.
This video now made me start fully collect every cooking mama game's
I always saw Mama as not just a literal mama, but a cooking class teacher too
Downloading cakemania!!! Omg what memories have you unlocked.. love it!!!
Im a 23 years old dude and cooking mama showed me the magical world of cooking, now its my hobby and i want to be a chef someday
I remember being in my cousins living room on the wii trying to make food for cooking mama and when one of us failed hearing, “Do not mind!” we’d mimic it because we thought it was funny.
So yeah, “Do not mind!”
I actually met cooking mama through the PETA game and it traumatized me (like I’m vegan now but not because of this game). I always thought cooking mama was evil because of that lol
amazing timing, i just started replaying Cook Off on my Wii
As an avid anime enjoyer with years of experience, I can conclude that she did say "Do not mind."
YES! Would love to see a video on the other baby games or the "Imagine" series from the DS?! Love your videos!!
I'm so glad that you included that one Kevin clip
I thought she said "You're not mine" as if your cooking was so bad she disowned you.
