Chore coats are simple and minimalist yet instantly recognizable: loose and long in the body, short and stumpy in the arms, and typically made with one of two super dense cotton twills: moleskin (soft!) or drill (bumpy!)
With origins in 19th century France, in this video I'm styling the two most influential chore coats: Mont St Michel (French!) and Taylor Stitch (modern!). Also there's a cream one from Wellen but it's probably discontinued, also a wool one from Flint and Tinder if you want an example of one that's easier to dress up!

Please do more like this! This is what I want to see an influencer do with a platform. How to take one garment and take it from casual to business casual looks. Awesome that you chose not to try a suit with it.
Great video Nick!
Coming up on 100,000 subs!
LFG!👏🏼
wish it with all your heart, raymond
Want a wool chore coat now. Bravo
yeah it's like the stealth sports coat, the floppy blazer, it's a neat entry
Did someone say workwear??
in heavy quotation marks to fend off the blue collar police
I see you putting the work into your fitness. Looking good dude
he's been a fitness blogger for like 10 years
Appreciate your content mate! Always top quality 👏👏
Thanks dude! Turns out changing into a bunch of outfits and shoes makes a video take way longer to film, I have learned, so I appreciate the thumbs up
Great video Nick!
Thanks for your videos. Can you eventually make one for the best shawl collar sweaters and cardigans, please. Thanks again.
Buck Mason makes a really nice corduroy one
It's funny I just can't get into corduroy, I think because I wore it a lot as a kid so it's not interesting to me, plus I remember my corduroy pants always making that annoying sound when the legs rubbed together walking haha
@@Stridewise yeah, not sneaking up on anyone in corduroys lol
@@StridewiseI don’t wear corduroy pants anymore, but I got some corduroy shirts from J Crew and I actually love them.
Great video, was mesmerized Hope you can review Gash Hao!
Hey it's cool that you've done a bit more style type videos lately. If you are looking for business casual and like the Drakes aesthetic I'd also suggest the Armoury (which have NYC and Hongkong stores). They're very similar in price and looks to Drakes, fantastic inspiration for business casual eg I love how the guys there style denim with sportcoats. They've got a YT channel and also did a "task jacket" recently which is basically a chore coat (but expensive!)
yeah I have an in with the Armoury guys i've never used but I've been meaning to go say hi to them. I did a video at Drake's too but I never published it because they weren't allowed to appear in it so it just sounded like a big commercial I was doing in their store haha
@@Stridewiserelease it for 100k sub celebration!? You’re almost there! Let’s go!
i like Le Laboureur over mt st michel. the ladder unlike the former has apparently begun outsourcing although they do use french fabric. really appreciate the style choices.
Great video, Nick. Some of those Drake one's looked incredible... any plans to get one?
I don't thinnnnnk so but I am currently trying to figure out business casual. I've been doing tweed jackets and wide wool trousers and loafers etc but I just feel kinda schlubby when I do, maybe a luxury chore coat and slimmer trousers is a way to go? I don't know. This is my current menswear riddle to solve
Love your content… greetings from Germany
And I love your comments, Herr Nietzsche!

What size did you get the The Boiled Wool Chore Blazer? Looks amazing btw
hey thanks man, I got a medium, just note that here I'm like 175 pounds - 20 less than I have been in most of my other videos
@@Stridewise Noted and thank you!
nice!
can never go wrong with a chore coat!
06:22 i think that works just coz of the wool color and the collar almost flattens down into a sport coat-ish lapel. Might not be possible with traditional cut chore coats without possibly ruining the collar or making a semi-permanent seam where you flatten it down.
@3:35 Man! That’s how I’d wear it! That combo looks great! 😎
The tan chore coat with chambray shirt and navy chinos I meant.
@@Zofer-1920 oh cool here I was worried that look was too boring or stuffy, I'm glad you like it!
Всё как мы любим!
I love my two Ojai chore coats from Taylor Stitch, in navy and olive. They are boxy, true, but drape well. They gove a relaxed but sophisticated look, at least that I say to myself. I do wonder though if they’re right for the office to replace a sports coat, and if I should get a third one in beige!
Try a wool one! I'm this close to getting one from Le Laboureur but chore coat sizing is so stressful
@@Stridewise Oh yes, I got a boiled wool one from Buck Mason, I love it. But it doesn't look too formal.
Also made out of black Secret Denim, like mine : )
Is that you CJ
@@Stridewise ‘fraid not, just some plebe
@@88sstraight hey you're just as good as CJ buddy
Chore Coats are also the ultimate Dad Coat.
great vid and inspirational as usual.... i have to travel alot for work to warm climate countries ( Brasil, Colombia and central america) and have found chore coats to be perfect for it... not too dressy and definitely cooler than a traditional blazer, plus it gives a unique style.... been using chore coats for a while now and have quite an assortment of color and textures in the collection
What’s up with the blink 182 shot
i said 'there's no lining or structure' and I silently played the bit of 'Dammit' when they say 'the timing and structure' because it rhymed. i guess that might have been a lot of layers for the viewer for a 1 second joke
@@Stridewise bahahahaha, right over my head
I just ordered a white chore coat from Old Navy to see if I can pull off the style. I’m kind of a rough and tumble (dumb) guy so I hope I can keep it clean
Railcar slighted! Riot. : )
I feel like chore coats really only work well if you have a bit of a "dad bod" because they're so boxy. For someone who has more of a V shaped upper body (wide shoulders and slim waist because they work out) chore coats don't really work and just tend to look sloppy and oversized. The shorter and slimmer arms also make it impossible to size them down if you do want a slimmer fit in the body.
I agree that the looser body of chore coats can be extra useful for bigger guys who don't love slimmer stuff. I go back and forth between enjoying loose fits (nice on days I feel a bit bloated/fat/"bulking") and preferring slimmer fits because, like you, I work out a lot haha. Still, I love this sturdy moleskin on the French one, moleskin is underrated and I'm glad to get a new piece with one of its most famous forms. Probably the most famous moleskin garment really
@@Stridewise I definitely understand the appeal, but with most of the ones you showed off in this video I felt like they just looked a bit too big on you around the midsection and looked kind of shapeless. Why go to the gym if you're not going to show it off?
@@stilllife8 yeah that is the whole deal with chore coats haha! if it was fitted everyone would call it out as not being chore coats. i don't know man some days you feel a big blobby and feel more like loose clothes. but i'm on your team with the pro-fitted clothing, which is a rare opinion around heritage menswear
Excellent review, thank you! I actually use a chore coat for, well, chores-chickens and gardens and such. I like the thin shell, which can be layered, and buttons. But for actual chores I actually like a chore coat with a zipper as well as buttons.
You should have cleared away all those rubbish bags littering the street while you were in your chore jacket.
MAYBE I WILL PEREGRINE
@@Stridewise😂👍🏼
Wait... Blink 182 is unstructured but also unlined?
THE LINING
AND STRUCTURE
DID YOU HEAR
UNTUCKED SHIRT
@@Stridewise Well, I guess this is growing up…
You look great, but I'd say 80% of those coats do not. Kato has some great chore coats that are slimmer fit. Its a shame to be in great shape and wear such a frumpy jacket. Also the untucked shirt longer than the jacket makes matters worse. Great video though with great examples of looks and fits, just prefer something slimmer cut and less boxy.
Yeah I mean it's a video on how to style chore coats so I couldn't not wear chore coats, which are by definition boxy and long, but I take your point about Kato's slimmer ones
N&F makes a matching chore coat for almost every unique jean they release.
yeah sometimes i prefer the jackets over the jeans, like the king of lords fabric i loved as a jacket
It’s kind of frustrating how limited the jacket options are. In the past, Nick has said he doesn’t want to wear PNW boots because there is a “stolen valor” aspect to wearing logger boots when you live in the city and aren’t a logger. But it really seems like all these jackets fall into the same problem. Trucker jackets, field jackets, chore jackets, military jackets. I am neither a hunter nor a trucker nor a handyman nor a service member. But these are really the only style of casual jackets available right now. We all want to think we are rugged, physically capable men who have been through some stuff. It’s all just kind of bullshit.
the idea that the merz b schwanen chinos aren't "conservative" enough for the office is so millennial
hahahah its is certainly more millennial than gen z but i was saying it for guys who have to follow boomers workplace attire rules
