Thanks. Just started playing on BGA and ordered a copy for home.
Thank you for this fantastic series.
Glad you enjoy it!
Hello, Mr. Ingersoll. I just beat dumbot for first time (took numerous tries). All thanks to your helpful videos. Just wanted to say thank you!
you are welcome! thank you for watching
Thank you so much for the classic Hive videos! I have learned to the point of winning several times against my husband. He knew how to play chess but I’ve never played chess so I was always at a disadvantage. My question is, so far the player who goes first wins every time. How can I win when I’m not the first? Any hints?
Welcome to Hive!! Yes in Classic Hive the first player has a small advantage. Add the Mosquito and the Ladybug and the advantage increases significantly. Add the Pillbug and the game becomes balanced.
It has been my experience that attacking is easier and more intuitive than defending. Thus, the first player advantage is greater in games between beginning players.
If you play online at BoardGameArena or BoardSpace, watch for me, and invite me to a game. I will gladly give comment on the game as we play.
At 11:56, would a better move for white be to move their free ant to the right killspot on black queen? This threatens grasshopper jumping into the last spot forcing black to defend
If the white Ant attacks, the black Grasshopper jumps into a killspot forcing the white Grasshopper to jump out and then the black Queen attacks, just like what actually happened.
Hi, nice work thx 🙏
12:05 why wouldn't black use his defending grasshopper to attack ?
It' a 1 move checkmate...
Hum... i see, it's not. Basically the same thing
Seems more effective to me though.
What say you? 🙂
@@gaaberu5728 If the defending Black Grasshopper were to attack (taking the set up shot), it frees the defending White Grasshopper. After the White Grasshopper jumps away, Black will be hard pressed to win. Once the space vacated b the Black Grasshopper is occupied by the free White Ant, White would be in a very good position to force a draw.
Covering and neutralizing the defending White Grasshopper wins the game for Black.
All of this is possible because White does not have a bug in position to take the Kill Shot.
I have classic hive and am really struggling to defend opponent beetle spawning next to queen after they pin my queen then climb on it with the beetle. Any tips to defend against beetle ?
Maybe the answer is at 7:25.. prevent a beetle from spawning by pinning. I always saw that as wasted tempo before
