Quick down and dirty tutorial for anyone that needs a refresher. Get back to your day in under 2 minutes. This tutorial is for the paid version of Fusion 360.
I'll give you the best tip I have for those videos. Playback speed. Set it to 1.5x. watch the video for a few minutes, then bump it up to 1.75x. Watch it for a few more minutes, then bump it up to 2x. You will acclimate to the speed, and when it gets to an important part you can slow it down if you need to.
You saved me so much time, I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial, Thank you! The perfect way to do tutorials like this IMO, short and to the point.
If your using personal license this will still work but with a slight bit more effort as you won't have prismatic. Once you get your body it may have a lot of faces/lines. When you get to that stage click the surface tab -> modify -> merge. Select two faces you want to join (start with just two big surfaces) do not select chain and press ok. This should drastically clean up lines and you can can continue this until your happy.
Just figured out from the Autodesk help that Merge doesn't show up in the menu unless... The Merge command works only within a single body. The Merge command is only available in Direct Modeling mode, when design history is turned off.
Thanks for this video! However, it didn't work for me. I kept getting an error "Cannot convert mesh body to solid or surface body. Use Generate Face Groups or Direct Edit to align face groups to geometric features on the mesh body" when converting mesh.
I have the educational license and this worked perfectly. I have watched five videos before seeing yours and this example blew all of them away. Thanks for sharing.
I found this hint on reddit and helped much as a free version user: "Recently discoverd that open a STL in Tinkercad and use the export fonction directly to Fusion 360, it created a editable body (no other manipulation are needed)"
Yeah, so on the surface this tutorial looks like a simple thing. Nope...this is click bait. Does Not Work. Prismatic is only available with 30 Day free trial or subscription. But that is irrelevant because there are "too many triangles" and the software crashes at the convert from Mesh to Solid stage every time. I've been at this for over an hour and it's not happening. This is wishful thinking.
It's in the description that this is for the paid version, and some computers are faster than others. Thanks for being so kind. I'm glad my small channel has that an big impact on world. You know because of all the money I don't make on ads.
The one feature hobbyists would want. Instead of capturing market share by having hobbyists and pros all use the platform, they push people away. 0.001% of casual users will actually pay for one feature. This decision to neuter that feature is very misguided.
Good thing I made it for myself because I don’t do it a lot and need a QUICK refresher. I’m not monetized and no one is paying me. That’s the point of my channel
Past this part, can you change the dimensions of the faces? for example make the diameter of the whole in the middle bigger or smaller? if so how? Great tutorial by the way :)
I wouldn’t try to change anything. Use the new solid body to project edges on a new sketch and make your dimensional changes there. Then make your own solid body
What if once you load the stl and go to the mesh tab it will not let you select anything to generate face groups? It will only let me select faces on the stl in sketch or solid. I can’t select anything in mesh
That’s happened to me on some models recently as well. I have no idea what that is. I’ve watched a few HOUR LONG videos for a simple task with no results.
YES! I was wonder how I could get an STL to work for my 2nd operations. When I export STL’s it converts them to meters and the part is wayyy bigger, how can I fix that?
I did that on an 8 year old computer with a crappy gpu. Fusion doesn’t handle big models well. This part is around 100mm. I scan big stuff a lot and have to settle for projecting faces, exporting them as a dxf, and making my own model.
wow.... this was like magic. I have spent a (noob) significant amount of time trying to do this, watched a few other videos and they all were mediocre at best. THANKS!
The man went straight to the point like a laser. Well done!
There’s plenty of fantastic videos of how to do this. Some people just need a little refresher. Thank you
Prismatic is not available for personal use.
Yes it is. Organic is not
Same problem. Unfortunately not available for personal use.
Then use the other one 😂
Using the "other one" creates a bunch of triangles you have to take care of curves have to be recreated @@Skewhoop
@@ARMYStrongHOOAH17no it’s not. Just tried it
convert prismatic only in paid subscription :\
Yep. Went along and got kicked in the n*ts.

I fire up fusion360 about once a week and watch this video every single time, lol. Thanks!
Finally, a to the point video! I'm tired of the 45 minute videos with 40 minutes of chatter.

Thank you so much. Very quick and precise instruction and EXACTLY what I needed!
WOW! I have been trying to do this for years. Thanks a million for the video.

Boom...I like it. No long intro
Your comment makes me laugh. Thank you lol
Doesn't work. Prismatic tells me I need to pay for
:( me too
Absolutely mother loving brilliant! You have saved thousands from the hell of listening to experts on discord! Kudos good sir!
This is great, but I'm on the free version so no prismatic mode. Trying to figure out what to do with all these triangles.
thanks for the help. worked awesome. only faceted on free version though but still worked.
Way too complicated.
Such a perfect video and the results are so clean. Thank you!
perfect tutorial, straight to the point, thanks a lot^^
But its hollow. How do you make it a solid?
Thanks for this video! However, it didn't work for me. I kept getting an error "Cannot convert mesh body to solid or surface body. Use Generate Face Groups or Direct Edit to align face groups to geometric features on the mesh body" when converting mesh.
I've had similar problem with stl files that have broken faces.
Only works for paid versions...!!!
Yeah, I put that in the description
Put it in the title.@@bryanofthings
Now this is how you make a how to video. Very concise.
What if you have missing surfaces after doing this
Thank you very much. Keep up with the great content!
Excellent, straight to the point video!!!! i'd love to see how you change the dimensions of the hole from the very same example model.
Is there like a script or something that can be programmed to automatically do all that to any stl file you choose?
I never found one. That’s why I tried to make a quick video
you are the goat keep this up and youll be #1
What ? this is a terrible tutorial .
another waste of time video
Thank you sir

Howww??
mine aint working

HOw?? I have the educational version, too. the Prismatic isn't allowed on this version.
Mine too it doesn't let the Prismatic.

Do you like tinkercad?
soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nice
absolute legend thank you so much
bro is the goat
life saver
The best remixing tutorial I've found. And I have watched MANY. This method works great - THANK YOU!
Thank You
Short and very useful tutorial, thank you. When I convert mesh I get compute failed and end up with a solid body with missing faces. Any idea why?
Same here, did you ever figure this out?
@@BelowAverageGaming No, I haven’t worked on it since.
you've got no fuckin' clue how long I've been trying to figure this out brother, thank you
Exactly what I needed thank you
at the convert mesh step the ok button is grayed out :( forcing subscription. sad day.
My macbook pro 2015 is still processing.... that's it.... now I understand that I have an old computer.
doesn't work on the free version
yeah wont let me change the method
I do not have the paid verzion. Can else can i do?
Is this only in the paid version?
yes
Subscribing to your channel for this tutorial alone. GDI why can't other people make such a concise this is what you need to do, no fluff tutorials.
Tell me about brother. So annoying
straight and to the point. Thanks for the video!
Too bad I don't have boatloads of money to blow and the paid version :/

Great video - To the point and still detailed enough. Even with an eastern background tune - fancy ;-) Thanks!
I watch a lot of youtube videos and find the eastern background music engaging. Gotta keep messing around.
@@bryanofthings its not easter, rather asia/middle asia or India type of music
u sound a bit like Herbert from family guy, but thanks for the video bro

the music at the end is so good. whats the name
Great tutorial! Super concise and informative :)
Very helpful but when I convert mesh it comes out as a giant sphere?
nice music tho xd
SALVOU MINHA VIDA !!! OBRIGADO !!! TKSSSSS
Thanks! from Korea.
I have tried over and over to try and convert a file. It keeps giving me the 10000 error. Would anyone want to give it a shot?
great. but how to get sketches?
Thanks! I am trying to draw on a surface of the mesh but I can't. I select the face to draw on but then it projects away from the mesh? PLS HELP
Awesome! I needed this!
Oh my lord, thank you
Bummer, this does not work form. I setup the trial to use these features and still no luck. My models come out destroyed.
Thanks bro You saved me from trouble
OMG 😱 you're so awesome 😭 I completed my project within minutes.. just because of you 😭❤️ love you so much..😭❤️💫 thanks buddy..😭❤️💫
I am using free version and i could not use the Parametric feature, what is the different between Faceted and Parametric ?

I love you, you saved my project

Thank you
This just gives me a surface. How can I make it completely solid?
Awesome info.
Thanks mate.
What if once you load the stl and go to the mesh tab it will not let you select anything to generate face groups? It will only let me select faces on the stl in sketch or solid. I can’t select anything in mesh
Only some of my stl files show up when i go to insert them. Any idea why?
Not really. It almost sounds like a corrupt file. That is weird
Feel free to email me the files. I’ll take a look

Excellent!
do you mind to check how is this done with the free version?
But it can not join body trom body make by stl file and body by extrude !!
Sometimes when I do this I end up with a hollow model and some of the face missing ?
That’s happened to me on some models recently as well. I have no idea what that is. I’ve watched a few HOUR LONG videos for a simple task with no results.
thank you for the video
The boundary tolerance step literally took my mac 15 minutes and 10 seconds to load (I timed it). 💀
That's happened to me before. Was the model big, or can tell if the model is broken anywhere?

That is exactly what I needed! Thanks!
I tried to make it quick. Glad it helped.
YES! I was wonder how I could get an STL to work for my 2nd operations. When I export STL’s it converts them to meters and the part is wayyy bigger, how can I fix that?
Are the document settings set to metric? I’ll can take a look at it if you want to send me the file
great video but even following this i still have thousands of triangles and pieces
I’ve seen that before. Sometimes stl files are made with spit and duct tape. I usually remodel if that happens.
Thank you for the precise video. *Big thumbs up*
Do you mind sharing your computer specs? Mine really bogs down working with mesh files. Time to upgrade
I did that on an 8 year old computer with a crappy gpu. Fusion doesn’t handle big models well. This part is around 100mm. I scan big stuff a lot and have to settle for projecting faces, exporting them as a dxf, and making my own model.

Thanks. Did the same thing. Felt I should make a vid when I figured it out
My computer freeze all the time because Fusion stil tells ttat the mesh has more than 10000 trangles....
lol. that's modeling software for you. They all do that.
You made this soooooo easy!
