    Just installed today. It takes quite a while to get to your home (live in South FL) but well worth it. Instant difference with the shifts. Each gear goes in securely and with a nice clack. The hardest step here is the actual replacement of the spring. Be careful that the spring connecting the 2 metal plates doesnt come off. If it does, youll have a hard time trying to put everything together again since the ball bearing comes off pretty easily. Overall, a 15-20 min job if you follow this video and a major improvement to your shifter.

    If only I'd read some of the comments about NOT testing BEFORE finishing re-assembly!
    Thought it wasn't going to work, but it needs the top case in place before the ball stays put.
    SO anyone as daft as me - please just follow the instructions in the video - DO NOT TEST till you've finished!
    And you'll love it. It's transformed the shifter from toy to something much more realistic.
    Thanks again.

    Ok I just installed this mod and it's *freaking amazing.* Just don't try to test the shifter mid-install before you screw *everything* back in. I was a dumbass and was too excited to try it out but it wasn't held in tight enough so the ball bearing slid out of place, causing me to take it all apart again to redo it (which is a pain when the ball keeps falling out of place, and messy if you get your hands greasy). But after it's all put together, the shifter feels so much more realistic and IMO completely craps all over the other expensive af 3d printed fragile crap (you know which popular mod I'm talking about). I don't foresee this mod ever wearing down because it's just a piece of plastic that pushes against a ball so there's very little movement/friction. It will probably last the life of the shifter itself.

    So it finally arrived to Germany after 3 weeks & 2 days. I've never dissembled my shifter before so it was a great thing to follow this video 1:1. It still took me ~2h in total as I struggled with the part of putting the very inner parts back together. I eventually made it tho, got it all back together and it really works great! My only concern about this mod is that I literally have to use a pipe wrench to tighten my shifter to the desk because it is so strong that it would move around after a couple shits already.
    The mod / modded shifter itself feels very, very strong and makes it feel so much less like a toy! You actually need quite some force now, personally I think it should be just a liiiiiittle bit less stiff but I don't I want to dissemble it again just to make the rubber a tiny bit shorter. As I've said, feels much better than the original spring, can only recommend it, but also suggest it for the use on a playseat.
    I think it will last very long as the part just replaces a default one and shouldn't show any wear. Will see how it is in a few weeks, but so far it is amazing!

    So I got the G29 shifter as a add on to my G920, having a shifter is a must. I saw this video and was like screw it I'm gonna order this little "Mod" more like heavenly angel. It took from Aug 24th to Sep 19th to get here, so it actually came before it was supposed to, shipping said 14 - 35 business days. So this little piece makes the G29 go from weak and toyish to real and firm like my old 2001 Honda Civic. No joke and it brings back memories. I HIGHLY recommend this as a add on or mod.. I also put some lube on the little ball, it had some already and would have probably sufficed but I put a little extra for good measure.

    REVIEW AFTER 3 MONTHS:
    So first of all, the product took 2-2,5 weeks to arrive i think, which is really good considering how cheap the worldwide shipping is and that it came from Australia to Europe (Germany).
    The installation was a bit complicated but the video assisted me very well and after a couple of hickups i got it all working after ~2h. At first it felt a little too stiff, but that was only because i was still used to the cheap toy'ish feel of the default shifter. After 3 months of using the modded shifter i tried a default shifter for the first time again today and it literally felt like nothing - thin air. This mod feels extremely amazing especially comparing it to the default shifter, it is really worlds apart! And for the price & cheap shipping it is a must buy for everybody who is willing to spend 1-2h and 8€ on their shifter to make it feel worlds better! :)
    More than happy with it!
    Just 1 thing is that I had to screw it to the desk very, very hard in order for it to not get lose, but once that was done it never moved a bit & felt amazing at all times ^^
    Thank you for making this amazing product!

  • @JimsLEGOGuns
    @JimsLEGOGuns 2 года назад +1

    I ordered one, then took a look at the video so I'd know how I'd assemble it. My immediate concern is removing the spring altogether, so while following the disassembly shown here I got an understanding of why the shift is so light. The spring isn't rather stiff, and making it stiffer is as simple as taking one of the screws used for holding the bottom clamp in to the bottom (as long as its not needed), and inserting into the spring, and putting that back with the screw head inwards, remembering the ball bearing. A few rubberbands around the shaft where it contacts the plastic, and it makes a clunck but isn't awful when wearing headphones. Makes the shifter about twice as stiffer, while the mod showcased makes it 3 times stiffer.

    Wanted to love this per other users. Attempted it twice but even after it was put together, the bearing would pop out when shifting. Made sure the concave portion was where the bearing was. Still no joy. Put the original spring back and all is back to normal. The base of the 3D printed piece is slanted so this could be the issue giving the bearing too much pressure against the metal plate. Will try to file it and attempt again. As is, it is super hard to move. No flexibility in the piece as there should be or it is just not the size it needs to be. Glad it worked for others.

    • @customsimshop
      @customsimshop  Год назад

      We are sorry to hear that. Did you add some grease for the bearing to move easier on the metal plate. There is a lot of added friction for the metal ball to move on the metal plate, so adding grease is required for it to work smoothly. If for some reason it still keeps popping out, then just cut 2 layers of rubber off the end of the spring, which should be enough to reduce the resistance enough to work properly.
      We haven't had these issues ourselves and we have tested these mods on tens of different shifters with even stiffer springs and haven't had the ball bearing to pop out before, so we are unsure why you are having problems with it.

    So... I should have read the comments below before installing today. I tried to test it before completely re-assembling the shifter and the ball bearing shot out three times! I tried filing some of the new "spring" down, but it still shot out. I eventually cut about 1/4" off the flat end and used it under the original spring as a pre-loader--which seems to work great, added maybe twice the resistance but doesn't feel notchy. So I suppose if you re-assemble the whole shifter before testing it adds enough rigidity to the unit to retain the ball bearing...but boy would one be pissed off if the ball bearing shot out after a full re-assembly! I also added at the same time the G-mod open H patten with magnets and Gmod shift knob...just tested at Laguna in Project Cars 2 in an Boss 302....shifts and feels fantastic! So didn't quite use as the Custom Sim shop intended but turned out great. Custom Sim Shop, but a note, or voice over in the video for folks not to test until fully put back together!

    I just bought this. Seriously, it's the best mod for this shifter. If you're comfortable with a screwdriver this is really easy to do. I added a weighted shift knob to counter the stiffness, plus rare earth magnets at the 6 positions for a crisper shift. Now I have a shifter that feels very close to "real". Keep in mind there is no actual transmission connected to the shifter so it's more like shift practice when the car is off. Very, very nice mod. G27 user here, tried installing it today and the amount of force needed to shift is unreal, if I continued something would've broke, either something inside the shifter itself or my wheel/shifter mount stand, ok maybe not the stand, but certainly would be into bending territory. The amount of force that was needed to shift in and out of a gear would send the shifter down or up into the next gear. I'm surprised nothing got damaged damage while working with it the shifting after I had greased it up.
    I disassembled and reassembled it two different times, checking my every move over double, even triple times to ensure I was doing everything correctly. May have got a defective/slightly misprinted dimensions mod.

    • @customsimshop
      @customsimshop  Год назад

      We're sorry to hear that you've had a bad experience with this mod, but we haven't heard from anyone else with such a problem. All these rubber springs are made with the same tolerances and would operate the same.
      If you had some slight problems with the force, then we would recommend cutting 1-2 layers off the spring from the bottom, which should be visible when looking at the spring. 1 layer is 0.2mm and each layer would make the spring less stiffer to operate the shifter with.
      And the metal faca where the ball bearing moves, needs to have grease on it for a smoother operation.
      Hopefully this helps.

You can even see the first layer looks sort of awkward like it didn’t bed very well the first print layer. I’ll try and file it down a bit to see if that helps. It may be worth y’all printing 1 extra layer and then sanding the bottom ensuring it’s flat and then measure for tolerances before shipping them. You could even print a jig to hold 10-20 of them at a time and then a couple passes with sandpaper will get them all perfect.

    Good to see an Aussie company coming out with some good looking mods for the G series wheel and pedal sets. I'm in qld and interested in both this and the sequential kit for my shifter and the magnetic mod for my wheel. I do wonder how much load is put through the factory plastic bits though. I believe the other end of the tube you place the spring inside would be plastic so extra load is gonna be pushed that way. Also, in the sequential mod vid you showed, it seems the plastic casing of the shifter is flexing. It could be the rig used for the video but the extra load would have to go somewhere.

    • @customsimshop
      @customsimshop  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for the kind feedback Logan🙏
      Regarding the 'H-pattern spring mod' then we have been using these in many different shifters for about a year now and none of these have shown any signs of wear, as the 'spring' is rubber and has a fair amount of elasticity.
      And with the 'Sequential shifter' video, then there is no flex in the plastic casing. In 1 of the videos, a 'Playseat' simulator is used and the mounting points aren't that strong and have some flex. And in the 2nd video, where there are 2x shifters, the green one is also installed temporarily and wasn't fixed down properly, just to demonstrate the possibility of 2x shifters simultaneously.
      Hope this clears some concerns you might have about our kit.

    I ordered one, I understand the way it works, but the one I received was too long and wouldn't let the ball bearing seat properly so I ended up just cutting a small piece off and used the factory spring and gave me significant resistance but not quite what was advertised.
    I just bought my shifter, so it could have easily been a revision to the shifter or an error in 3d printing. Either way I got something to work and I'm satisfied.

    What cars are you guys driving in real life! The stock G29 shifter is very weak, agreed, and feels very inaccurate during the change but man, I don't need 2kg of force to shift gear in my real car and I have a short shift on my Ford Focus ST. I'd be rather pissed if my real car took this effort! I would say a kg or so would be plenty.

    Ok this is verrryy interesting! I have a question. I use a challenge playseat with a 3d printed g29 shifter mount. Is this mount steardy enough to deal with the added friction? I've bought a weak shifter mod which broke in 1 month or so, but I miss the feel of the friction it gave! This seems a LOT more steardy, but just makes me wonder if it wont put to much stress on the shifter mount.

    Does anyone happen to know the diameter of the spring/hole the spring goes in? You could technically just put a small object in the hole so the stock spring is compressed, right? Or does that not work?

    • @pfunkle
      @pfunkle 2 года назад

      I opened mine and found the spring is 0.5mm in diameter. Meaning you could just pop a small object in the hole (not too tall or it will be too stiff).
      I tried another commenter's solution of using one of the screws, but I also added some small circles I cut out of a thick rubber band. I should have just went with the screw, because this is sooooo stiff 😂 accompanied by a loud THWACK every time I shift.
      Lol so anyway, just the screw by itself is likely plenty.
      The hardest part of the whole thing is getting all the screws out!! The screws buried deep were annoying.

  • @Max.44
    @Max.44 3 года назад +1

    Just plug and play does not work with this for me.
    The plastic stick creates a massive resistance with nothing once it is overcome, resulting in a very klunky experience where it is difficult to put it in neutral and smooth gear changes wont be possible only very aggressive ones.
    Also, it makes a very, very loud broken sounding noise when shifting gears. If anyone lives in the same building as you, you will annoy them with this.
    I will take the shifter apart cut this mod in half and put it back in with the original spring. Maybe that will be better.
    Just write a comment under this if you are interested whether that solution works better.

    • @customsimshop
      @customsimshop  3 года назад

      Did you add some grease on the metal plate where the ball bearing moves? It does make a pretty significant change in the operstion and sound of the shifter.

    • @Max.44
      @Max.44 3 года назад +2

      @@customsimshop Thanks for the reply.
      Yes I added grease but it was just too stiff and abrubt with the pin alone for me.
      I now use the original spring with about 1/4 of the pin which makes the force to change gears more progressive. Sounds like a gated manual now, which works nicely!

      @@trailswithtyler7427 Wouldn't say it really feels more realistic, it is still just one single pressure point compared to a real gear change just with a better feeling resistance.
