Guess you dont know about Phil Collins history in progressive rock, fusion, and big band jazz. As well as pop, rock like his work with Robert Plant and others.. Genesis, Brand X with Bill Bruford, the big band swing shows he did. Bill Ward is an amazing rock and jazz drummer as well but Phill Collins skill set is substantial.
My boy Phil is epic here. It is very apparent that the piece is anything but a challenge for him to play. However, that should be no surprise, as he has virtually played it all as a drummer. All his drumming performances have always been instant classics, beyond epic masterpieces, above and beyond all other drummers' abilities.
Phil is Epic here? - Not even close. Did you even listen to this? All he's doing is playing a straight ahead beat, he barely catches a fill. The first thing I noticed watching this before I even read your comment was how much Phil Collins sucks on this song. Phil isn't even 1% of the drummer Bill Ward is. But hey, it takes all kinds, if Phil is your hero - more power to you buddy. But if you want to hear some real drumming - Go listen to Mitch Mitchell, Ringo Starr, Ginger Baker, Lee Kerslake, Bill Ward, Keith Moon. . . Those are Epic Drummers.
silversurfstudio Bill Ward is my favorite drummer of all time, but you're talking out of your backside about Phil Collins. Go dial up some 70s Genesis or Brand X as a starter course in how ridiculous anyone sounds who thinks Phil Collins is anything but a monster drummer. He's amongst the very best who have ever played. The best drummers also know when to underplay, which clearly Phil knew was appropriate for this performance. Great musicians don't overplay classic songs which they weren't on to begin with. That said, I don't agree with 88BigEtrain's fanboy drooling at all. The original "Paranoid" may have been Sabbath's most straight forward song but even it has amazing nuances going on and the drumming on the original track is what is "epic."
Jeff Carney Ok. I haven't really checked out some of that early stuff. I just always thought he was over-rated from the stuff I have heard him do and I was pretty disappointed with his performance on this song. But hey, even the best have bad gigs so perhaps I was a bit harsh on Phil. But I fully agree, as a guitar player - it's the same with any instrument, it's not just what you play but it's also what you don't play [or what's in between the notes].
Totally agree. I've seen Phil in concert so many times I can't even count them, solo and with Genesis. Also once with Eric Clapton a long time ago! Anyone who doubts his music capabilities simply hasn't seen or heard him play. Los Endos is a personal favorite of mine. No vocals, but the music is mind blowing. I've been a fan of his for over 30 years. Just incredible.
Tony Iommi talks about it in his autobiography and it sounds hilarious. They reminded everyone that there wasn’t supposed to be any cussing and Tony said Ozzy was pacing back and forth for like an hour practicing doing his stage banter without “effing and blinding”.
This event is one of the greatest i had seen..Because Phil Collins is my favourite star...An idol of all kind of music drums,piano,vocal...He is the best...
I noticed a lot of people criticizing Phil Collins here and saying that he sucks. Well, you wouldn't know unless you watch and listen to him drumming and singing in Genesis. Besides, Paranoid never had any special drumming parts to begin with, it was all rhythm.
+mrjacob0101 It always comes back to that song because it was so BIG. Check out anything from his solo albums. His drumming wasn't always about being big and over the top some of the best stuff was subtle time changes and fills in the middle of a a straight driving beat.
O.k. wow! That's not Ozzy Osbourne with Tony Iommi and Phil Collins! That is Tony Iommi with Ozzy Osbourne and Phil Collins!!! Big difference! The announcer does not even MENTION Tony Iommi!!! Black Sabbath was Iommi's group not Ozzy's! It also was not Black Sabbath but Iommi/Osbourne/Collins...
Read ozzys autobiography. The group was a joint venture comprising ozzy, tony, bill and geezer. They got together first under the name rare breed, with ozzy and geezer. That became music machine which became the approach. Tony and bill then knock on ozzys door at 14 lodge road, aston birmingham and they become a joint venture named polka tulk blues band. After that, earth, then after that black sabbath
I guess a lot of the kids nowdays dont know that phil was the drumer in one of the greatest bans ever, genesis, i mean genesis in the prog era, not the sellout 80´s pop
Phil Collins is (was) an absolutely badass drummer. The god of groove, he rocks way harder than he's given credit for. I never thought I'd see this version of "Black Sabbath."
This is monumental, phil Collins makes me remember how good of a drummer that he is, and look at Tommy's road worn Sabbath guitar daaaaammmn! Legends unite.
Sir Phil is just GETTING OFF being Ozzie's drummer. SO cool! Poor ozzy is so in awe of the royalty Tony has to lead him offstage. Look at his eyes. : )
I watch Ozzie perform and I am always waiting for him to mess up the songs by forgetting the words or falling flat on his face;but he never does....Here's to you Ozzie...a consumate performer and entertainer...heavy metal headbanger.
@Volcanoran3 That´s right. Phil is the lead-singer for Genesis. But back in the days when Peter Gabriel was the singer for Genesis, Collins was the drummer. And Tony Iommy is the guitarist for Black Sabbath, the inventors/godfathers of Heavy Metal. This gig here was a concert for the Queen of Great Britain. I think it was in 2000 (but don´´t nail me for that). Many other artist collaborated on this concert...
Before Genesis Phil Collins was in a band called Brand X and it is kind of a jazz rock fusion, his drumming style was alot more aggressive (if you will) and shows alot more of his talent. He is a really great drummer. He was asked by Neil Peart to play on the Burning For Buddy Sessions with other great drummers but Phil was very busy at the time.
Phil Collins is very good drummer and many musicans asking him for help... btw Ozzy Osburne now has very good havey metal voice! greate Tony guitarist! greate performance!
You can just hear the pioneering thrash metal drumming in songs like this. Only other band who were drumming like this at this time were Motorhead. The Two bands who pioneered Metal were Black Sabbath and Motorhead.
@SpicyRiceProductions this was on a DVD called "party at the Palace" it was in 2002....it is the best music DVD that I have ever purchased, I recommend it to all
this is The Queens jubilee at Buckingham Palace back in year 2001 ,, Ozzy was invited to perform , and he asked Tony Iommi to join him for the event along with Queens drummer
You are completely right in your assumption. I have many of his solo CDs, my favorite was the song "Shot In The Dark" from "The Ultimate Sin" and in the CD "No More Tears", the song "Mama I'm Coming Home" was my favorite song that year....although he himself knows he's no singer, at least he surrounds himself with decent musicians and he does try to at least produce good music in his CDs. :-)
Phil Collins as a metal drummer? Everything is possible for this Master!
+wojciechmo Collins is a Progressive Drummer.
what does he miss? Sorry i am no guitar expert
He lost piece of his finger (or two) in the past.
+veteranraider 062 That's eternally and forever amazing. :)
Like lady Gaga in Metallica. Can be done, but just aint right.
Wow Phil Collins who would have thought? Nicely done Phil.
Phil got a lot cooler...
He could sing the song while he was playing. I think he did it when he was playing Master of Puppets.
Phil's one of the best drummers there were. People tend to forget it. Number of studio recording for different bands he commited is enormous.
Genesis - Musical Box
***** I had no idea. I guess that I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.
Love Bill Ward. He`s one truly great drummer. But Phil Collins is one of the most skilled drummers ever!
Hahahahahahaha! Wait, you're serious?
Guess you dont know about Phil Collins history in progressive rock, fusion, and big band jazz. As well as pop, rock like his work with Robert Plant and others.. Genesis, Brand X with Bill Bruford, the big band swing shows he did. Bill Ward is an amazing rock and jazz drummer as well but Phill Collins skill set is substantial.
Oh no, I know him allright. And he is good enough I guess. But one of the most skilled drummers ever? Not a chance.
Bill e um grade amigo meu ozzy osborne e deus para mim inferno que fala.
My boy Phil is epic here. It is very apparent that the piece is anything but a challenge for him to play. However, that should be no surprise, as he has virtually played it all as a drummer. silversurfstudio Hahahaha
Damn, Phil Collins nailed it. Must be a rocker at heart. Wonderful.
Ozzy Deserves a Knighthood! Cmon Queen Elizabeth!
Amen.
I never thought I'd see Phil playing with a metal band like Black Sabbath. Holy shit, that was unexpected and interesting.
It was in the garden of Buckingham Palace as well haha.
Was a special concert for the Queen in about 2004
+Yavor Stankov Yeah, I said te same thing.
+Yavor Stankov Phil IS an awesome drummer but for Sabbath there is ONLY Bill Ward.
ROCK'n'ROLL.....this gave the concert a much needed kick in the ass. Long Live Ozzy and Tony.
Bloody hell yeah, Phil Collins in Black Sabbath!!!
omg epic right
Anymouse Persona
beyond epic!!!
UK has real music culture!
Black Genesis con Phil Collins, jejeje...
Totally agree. I've seen Phil in concert so many times I can't even count them, solo and with Genesis. Also once with Eric Clapton a long time ago! Bad Ass!! Phil Collins on drums, it does not get any better than this.
Phil Collins! Love it!! Phil has played drums for everybody! He seems to never turn down a gig!! Great job on this song.
Lemmy once said - "first of all Phil Collins is a GOOD DRUMMER" ........
As a HUGE Phil Collins fan, I absolutely love this.
Oh. The royals are there. This might account for a "fuck" free performance out of Ozzy.
Phil Collins + Sabbath: Ecstacy.
Phil Collins made my day as usual. Heavy metal made my whole life.
I wonder who plays as the bassist, can't figure who... and whats the last song.. kinda rap abit.
+niel son Might have been Pino Palladino.
niel son it was Pino...i was there
This video is actually what got me into Ozzy. Cuz I used to be a big Phil Collins fan, and then this comes up :p
which pixel is Ozzy Osbourne?
The one wIth the microphone pixel
Ozzy going thru a song w/o dropping an F bomb, putting on a Sunday tongue for her majesty, new respect for Mr Osbourne.
I noticed a lot of people criticizing Phil Collins here and saying that he sucks. Well, you wouldn't know unless you watch and listen to him drumming and singing in Genesis. Besides, Paranoid never had any special drumming parts to begin with, it was all rhythm.
+doctorfeelucky really only in Genesis? In the Air Tonight that is some good drumming
+doctorfeelucky really only in Genesis? In the Air Tonight that is some good drumming

Actually like 80 % of his drumming was over the top in Genesis and Brand X most definently.
Wow! Outstanding. Ozzie, Tony and Phil.
and suddenly a rap song at the end
That was a very good live performance by Ozzy...good job. Phil is a beast...

I thought this was a joke. Ozzy actually sounded good and the band with Phil rocked. Thanks for posting this
Well Ozzy? No "fuck" in front of the royals?
Love the way OZZY moves around the stage;there isnobody like Ozzy!!!
I guess a lot of the kids nowdays dont know that phil was the drumer in one of the greatest bans ever, genesis, i mean genesis in the prog era, not the sellout 80´s pop
wow, my two biggest idols, ozzy and phil collins
I love it
Was Ozzy really chewing fucking gum?
ShortFingeredShreder I'm pretty sure that's just regular gum.
Billy Suter No, it's Ozzy, it's _fucking_ gum.
+ShortFingeredShreder its actually a common tactic with rockstars, they do it to keep their vocal chords wet to be able to do high notes better
+Prepsi Of TDU2 I should try it. Might help me too.
+Soulless reflections Wow! I always thought that Ozzy doing it because of cocaine or amphetamine to avoid bruxism xDD
When I first saw this, I was surprised the world didn't explode from the amazing awesomeness.
Phil Collins??? LOL
Phi collins sold his soul to the devil in 1983.Thats why he had all those hits in the 80's.In 1989 the devil dumped him for vanilla ice
Thank you Tony. Without you, there wouldn't be Heavy Metal.
Phil Collins??? hhahahahahaha!!! LLLLOLLLL
KING ARTHUR yes, Phil motherfucking colins, one of the best drummers ever
One of the best? Dude you're high go smoke another bowl.
Phil Colins?? LLLOLLL hahahaha!!
Yes, apparently Iommi and Ozzy think he is good enough to play with them but not you, thanks but I´ll stick to their opinion and not yours
Yes, I already answered, are you stupid?
Its so cool to see Ozzy and Tony walking arm in arm. They are both awesome.
Collins sounds like a generic drummer here. No match for Ward, that's for shoe.
Iommi + Collins + Osbourne = EPIC BAND OF EPICNESS!
Thanks. It (04/04/71) was my first concert. Humble Pie (with Frampton) opened.
Amazing how he can sing flawlessly, but half the time when he speaks he stutters and stammers. Pickled brain!!! Amazing he's still ALIVE!!!
Badass baby!!! Ozzy at his best and Phil did a great job!
Ozzy,Tony and Phil Collins,on QUEENS drum kit! very interesting,it sounded about like i would have thought it would.great video!
Phil is one hell of a drummer....and Tony Iommi is a guitar legend!
Sir Phil is just GETTING OFF being Ozzie's drummer. SO cool!
Poor ozzy is so in awe of the royalty Tony has to lead him offstage.
Look at his eyes. : )
Tony Iommi proved that you don't have to play guitar fast to be good. He wrote some of the best rifts in metal history. Its all about how it sounds.
WOW! Awesome! Very talented folks, everyone strong, pyro at the end...Metal at it's finest!! :)
I watch Ozzie perform and I am always waiting for him to mess up the songs by forgetting the words or falling flat on his face;but he never does....Here's to you Ozzie...a consumate performer and entertainer...heavy metal headbanger.
Phil Collins is an excellent musician all the way around! Proves it even more so right here! Ya think Bill Ward was jealous at all?
this is awesome, love both black sabbath and phil collins!
drugs,alcohol..whatever you wants.. but Ozzy Osbourne is stillaliveee!!!! Rock n Roll!!!
Ozzy, alive and for the most part well. What a credit to mankind.
Very cool, feels close to home..... my sister went to school with his daughter, but my friend was teaching his son drums in vancouver bc .
It was the Party at the Palace in the grounds of Buckingham Palace in London. It was awesome - Phil Collins played the drums ALL night.
so much great rock and roll in this video. ozzy singing tony playing guitar and phil playing a queen drumset. awesome.
Watching Phil Collins Drumming is like falling in sleepy Hypnosis! Hope I wake up when it's over!?!
@Volcanoran3
That´s right. Phil is the lead-singer for Genesis. But back in the days when Peter Gabriel was the singer for Genesis, Collins was the drummer.

ozzy still got it, so does Iommi, but with ozzy it's really incredible!
this is awesome. the master is at work.
Collins on drums with Ozzie... hilarious, random, awesome
Tony Iommi is a god of metal, no doubt. Look at his posture, this is "The man" !
One of best versions ever
Fully agree! These monsters are forever fresh unlike all "summer stars" who come and go!
Ozzy never change....still the old ozzy, the king of heavy metal
Phil Collins for knighthood
This is a pretty hilarious combo.
Go Phil! Go Phil!
and THANK YOU GOD EVEN MORE, because you Created Tonni Lommi...in the first place!!

Phil Collins is very good drummer and many musicans asking him for help...
btw Ozzy Osburne now has very good havey metal voice! greate Tony guitarist!
greate performance!
Просто невіриться, Філ Коллінс затисався в таку важку компанію! Багатогранний талант!
That guitar sounds so godly. Iommi one of the metal starters
I knew it - Phil and Harry are Headbangers :-))
it's just isn't right to end the video with rap music. this performance is epic by these three legends.
this is soooo insanely brilliant! thanks for putting this up!
Janis, Singapore

ADORO questo pezzo...soprattutto con il solo in stile sabbath di tony iommi....
wow, you learn something new everyday, thanks for that.
It was the Queen´s jubilee and Queen were one of the actors. Phil plays the Queen-Drumset...
Great!!
this is The Queens jubilee at Buckingham Palace back in year 2001 ,, Ozzy was invited to perform , and he asked Tony Iommi to join him for the event along with Queens drummer
iommi is probably in the top 5 best guitar lines of all time for paranoid
Queen was playing that show, and that was the kit that Roger Taylor was using. Phil was playing a different drum kit since he's left-handed.
what a concert!!!!!!phil u rock
OZZY the godfather of hevy metal!!
amazing musicianship!!
You are completely right in your assumption.

:-)
it's the first time i've seen Collins staring heavy metal. great!
Damn good performance!
nice to see ozzy and tony together at the end.
CHIDA LA ROLA......puros recuerdos m trae...chido
Haha, this is awesome. I wonder how many old school metal fans from back when would shit their pants to see Ozzy playing with Phil Collins?
