    Just bought one for my son. We love it. Fast, maneuverable. We will see how it holds up to a beating.

    I got my Hoss over 2 months ago. Here’s my verdict on it: Out of the RC cars I’ve driven (Traxxas Bigfoot, Slash 2WD, Bandit xl-5, Arrma Vendetta and Slash 4X4 VXL), it is easily my favorite. Like the video says, it takes a beating. One of my favorite things to do with it is to use the side of my ditch as a jump to fly over the approach to my driveway. Because of the uneven dirt, the jumps are unpredictable and the Hoss has terrible landings most of the time (I mean nosediving from 15+ feet going near-full throttle and cart-wheeling into tree trunks) and it tanks it. I’ve taken it to two skate parks and walked away without a single broken part.
    All that being said, it isn’t a perfect truck. The Ultra-shocks are terrible. Traxxas should have put their Big Bore aluminum shocks, or maybe even their GTR shocks onto it. If neither of those, they should have at least redesigned the Ultra-shocks to be stronger. They’re fine for an XL-5 model, but on a VXL truck that’s designed to bash, they are underwhelming (I bent a shock shaft on a relatively small jump). I’m going to be getting GTR shocks for it next spring.
    Another upgrade I’m going to get is the Extreme Heavy-duty upgrade kit, which comes with extremely beefed-up steering & caster blocks, rear bearing carriers, shock towers, Maxx-like driveshafts, and steel hexes. This isn’t because I’m disappointed with the durability-far from it-but because I love an hour and a half from the nearest hobby shop and I’d rather not have to make that drive because I hit a concrete culvert on the other side of the ditch and broken the steering & caster block (which may or may not have happened). Also, I have broken a driveshaft, but that was because the rear wheels got grass stuck in them, effectively locking them up, and the center diff poured most of the torque to the front wheels.
    Something I highly recommend for this truck is a heat sink and fan for the motor. The Velineon 540XL is the 4s-capable motor from the Maxx, so it runs much cooler than the Velineon 3500 on 3s. However, it still gets toasty, especially where I live where the summer temperature almost never goes below 80°. A heat sink and fan is a must.
    The servo is also disappointing. It’s plastic-geared and low-torque. For a truck with this kind of power and the size of its wheels, it’s way too underpowered. The wheels cannot hold to a turn in grass; they just wobble. I put an EcoPower WP110T in it, and although it’s a little slow compared to what I could have gotten, it works perfectly.
    If you want to see my full thoughts on the Hoss, check out the video my friends and I did on our channel: 3 Demingoes RC.

    Good video man. You want the chassis to hit that saves your shocks from bending breaking it also saves your shock towers.

      Thank you! Definitely, I haven’t seen too many vehicles that keep the skid plates off the ground with the shocks fully compressed.

    I had the stampede 4x4 a while ago and the Hoss is really just a mildly beefier stampede. Of course the new BLS-2 stampede offers the new renovations the hoss has

  • @rmboyd01

    Is it worth it to convert an original stampede 4x4 into this as far as the chassis? I converted mine into a monster slash 4x4 for stability years ago but I miss how easy it was to do wheelies, is this a good balance of stability and fun. Was even thinking about going lcg stampede 4x4 with the rustler chassis.

      If you use the vehicle often, I’d say it’s worth converting. 👍

    If you have experience with the maxx, how would you recommend this vs that? I’m so torn. I love the little tricks and bunny hops that the hoss can do, but the maxx has a ton of upgrades at a price not much higher. I like that that maxx can go 50+ out of the box with no gearing, and really nice shocks, but the hoss is smaller and more compact. Idk if I want it to wheely more or less, I just don’t know where to put my money. I know both will be crazy fun, but it’s good money for both of them and I want to get the right one. Very helpful review!

    • @LVC_RC
      @LVC_RC  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! I don't have hands-on experience with it, but I'd recommend the Maxx over the Hoss based on what I've seen. Like you said, you get significantly more with the Maxx for a slightly higher price. Have fun with whichever you choose! 😄

    • @LVC_RC

      You have to change the gearing in order to reach 60+ mph. They don’t include optional gearing, so I’m not sure why they’d put it on the box. 🤷‍♂️

    I’m thinking about buying one but I have never really liked traxxas and have always been an arrma fan. Most of the other people I know hade tones of problems with traxxas cars. With arrma cars the only big problem is the survo sucks. Still not sure if I should get one sense they are a bit over priced .

    • @mytwocents3262
      @mytwocents3262 2 года назад +2

      I’ve been running many Traxxxas for over 15 years. I also have various Arrmas. I have to say from personal experience my Traxxas tend to be more durable. Not that Arrma is bad, but they tend to fail me more often. I bash, flip, run them through mud sand and snow. So I do a little bit of everything. In my opinion even though some may think Traxxas is overpriced, you really get what you pay for.
