IMPROVE OR MOVE? Opinions on the Daniel Ricciardo Rumours

  • We've been here once already, haven't we? Despite getting his new chassis and comprehensively destroying Yuki in China, there is still that shadow looming over Daniel Ricciardo. The Race saw the bigger picture within the Red Bull setup, and it's agreeable that Red Bull wants its new guys in, so someone or something has to give, right?
Could this really be the end for Danny Ric? Or will he be able to find something somewhere else unlike last time?
Enjoy! And remember to like and subscribe for more!

As much as i find Ricciardo funny and charming, how long is he going to team-surf and ride on his Red Bull era reputation? it's been 6 years now and he is 34 years old - 35 in July. if he cant perform this year, they should 100% boot him and let a younger driver in. i'll keep saying it - we can't just keep recycling from the same pool of 20-25 f1 drivers forever... we need fresh faces! Ricciardo had his chance by now ...more than most will get

My exact feelings about this. I love Daniel Ricciardo, he is a great guy. But there is the word "In F1 you are only as good as your latest race" and lets face it, Ricciardo has had some really bad years. I feel like it's very generous to say Ricciardo would have scored points in China. He had to stop again whilst everyone else was going to the end. He had next to no chance. He'd have got jumped on the restart and then had to pit. If anything Yuki was the more likely to score had he not been Magnussen'd. Welcome to Alpha Tauri strategy.
The only weekends Ricciardo has beaten Tsunoda are Hungary, Mexico (Tsunoda grid penalty for Monza DNS) and China (Tsunoda never raced there, Piastri struggled similarly on his first visit to the track).
Miami will be telling as Yuki has actually raced there more than Daniel, so similar to China (minus about an extra decade).

So I've always held a theory that Ricciardos troubles began with the possible move to Ferrari
When Ferrari were opting to replace Seb I believe they will have looked at many options including Sainz and I think Danny Ric.
Now how far those conversations went nobody will confirm for now but I suspect they were in a place that Ricciardo felt he was going to be given the nod and off back of that he made moves to break from Renault who were then quite frustrated to find he was leaving so soon. But when the move to Ferrari didn't happen and Sainz was chosen Ricciardo felt need to move on to save face almost and taking Sainz vacated seat felt the best choice even as a sideways move.
Of course it's just a theory but it's my explanation as to why he would take a side way move when things looked good at Renault for team and driver especially in one where they were building around him and he had been a key signing for them - things also started going downhill for Renault after losing Danny and it was a divorce both parties in hindsight might regret

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo Месяц назад

I don't recall any serious Ferrari offer? At the time, Ferrari most likely preferred Sainz as he would be a clear number two and were probably (ironically) concerned that Ricciardo would be too fast and challenge Leclerc? Mercedes also passed on free agent Ricciardo in 2019 while they were giving Bottas one year deals, again this might be because they thought Ricciardo would be too fast *rather than* too slow to be a Mercedes driver?

And if it is clear that Ricciardo will not drive for 2025, why keep him in the seat? Ricciardos purpose was to put pressure on Perez and, if Perez gets problems again, replace him at Red Bull. And this will 100% not be the case, currently Perez is driving solid and Ricciardo not so much.
I guess it will happen rather soonish that Lawson replaces Ricciardo, simply to give Lawson more time to learn.

It's understandable if you've recently started to follow the sport, but prior to 2021 Daniel was genuinely a top 5 driver on the grid. Unfortunately he's the type of the driver who's not very adaptable and he's not been able to master the machinery since he left Renault. He's running on old fame now, but just 3 years ago he was someone who very much earned the opportunities he got.

Ricciardo is part of the old school crew whose driving style prefers a more stable rear end, Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso are all like that. The new style car the young guns like Verstappen, Norris, Leclerc, Russell prefers have a very active rear and that's what clashes with Ricciardo's ability to drive. Some, like Alonso and Hamilton, have the talent to adapt, but Ricciardo is just having a hard time doing so.

I thought Stroll needed to go after last season. To his credit, he started off decently enough, especially overcoming the soreness of his pre-season injuries, but he got progressively worse as the season went on, enough to make me think "Surely if Lawrence really wants to make AMR a championship-winning team as much as he says he does, it's time for him to have that tough talk with Lance." But then I saw Lawrence gushing over Lance in the first DTS episode and it made me question my thinking. I'm not entirely sure if Lawrence is deluded enough to still think that Lance could be a champion, or if he just puts his son's wishes above the needs of the team no matter what, but I always assumed Lawrence's business acumen would allow him to do what many assumed he wouldn't. Now I'm not sure.
But at this point I think it's absolutely imperative to replace him with someone else before the start of next season. Not only is he dragging the team down, his driving skills seem to be in noticeable decline. For a driver of over 6 years driving an F1 car, there's little evidence of his experience beyond his arrogance. It's worrisome to me that Lance's impression of himself as a driver seems to be increasing while his skill is decreasing. Continuing down this path is a recipe for disaster. It's not just about him taking out other drivers, it's also about him hurting himself. If I were his father, I think I'd be concerned about that a great deal. His crash during Qualifying at Singapore last year is the first thing that comes to mind.
But I digress. I'm hopeful that Ricciardo can continue his strong form after China with the new chassis as I'd like to see him stay on the grid. And as awesome as it would be to see him paired with Alonso next year... well, we can only hope, I suppose.

It makes you look better if you're in a mediocre car and obliterating your team mate than if you're in potential podium-scorer and being the 2nd best driver in your team.
I don't rate Norris as anything other than a typical quick F1 driver. But Daniel as a race winner, being unable to beat him shone a light on Ricciardo's true abilities. The Red Bull's and Renault's made Daniel look better than he actually is.

F1 media is pretty sad. It's all "this might happen and it might happen as soon as next month" and none of the rumours come true but we all move on. Why can't we get interesting analysis like other sports, analyze a driver's braking or cornering style, find out who is taking a unique line through a certain corner this weekend, who is the most clutch driver picking up the most late race positions, etc. etc.
Of course this kind of reporting would mean actually attending or watching races instead of just sitting home and picking a driver out of a hat and saying that they will be gone from F1 "as soon as the summer break or maybe for the 2025 or 2026 season". None of these outlets predicted the Piastri move to McLaren or the Hamilton move to Ferrari until after it happened so why do we care what they have to say about driver moves.

I think Dan is becoming one of the nostalgia drivers. We all know what he did earlier in his career therefore he must be able to do it now.
Even if he does see an improvement and beats Tsunoda, I'm not sure he'd like it at Red Bull. They really need someone who would be willing to play 2nd fiddle to Max, and I can't see Danny doing that - he'd either challenge Max (with results like last time ie crashes) or be unable to get a grip on the car and get dropped by Christmas.
